2005 Schrader "Old Sparky" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (OWC)
Bid on this magnum lot of 2005 Schrader "Old Sparky" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (OWC - 100RP) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Old Sparky (only available in magnums) is the highest in alcohol (14.8%) and, again, was aged in 100% new Darnajou barrels. This is just magnificent and at age ten, tasting like it was four to five years of age. Of course, tasting from magnum contributed somewhat to that, but it’s a great, great example of the Schrader’s favorite cuvée, hence the name. It is predominantly made from Clone 6, with small amounts of Clones 4 and 337. Like all these wines, it has an inky purple color, with notes of licorice, forest floor, graphite, cedar wood and creme de cassis and new saddle leather. Voluptuously textured, expansive, savory and full-bodied, with super-sweet tannins and a finish that goes on for close to a minute, this is a prodigious wine and one of the superstars of the vintage. Look for it to drink well for

Of the 2005 Alex Gambal Clos Vougeot Grand Cru,Allen Meadows - Burghound writes: "An unusually expressive nose for a young Clos de Vougeot mixes upper and lower register ripe fruit, earth, spice and subtle sauvage hints that dissolve into rich, full and serious but not particularly austere flavors that culminate in a hugely long, dusty and driving finish. There is real energy here and better still, it's focused and like the Ech, sufficiently firmly structured that a decade or more slumber in the cellar will be required. *Don't M

Bid on this 10-bottle lot of 2005 Saint-Pierre, St-Julien (OWC - 94RP, 93WS, 92ST) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: " Possibly one of two of the most concentrated St.-Juliens (Léoville Las Cases is the other), this 2005 shows wonderfully sweet tannin, a dense ruby/purple color, and lots of crème de cassis, licorice and spice. Full-bodied, opulent, and impressive, it is surprisingly soft, though it will certainly age nicely for 15-20+ years. (RP)" (06/2015)

Of the 2004 Thomas Dundee Hills Pinot Noir (1.5L),Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar writes: "Bright red. Seductive raspberry, redcurrant and wild strawberry aromas are complemented by an array of Asian spices, dried violet, yellow rose, cured meat, graphite and iron notes. I'd have called this a platonic Mazis-Chambertin, blind, but it's also floral enough to guess Clos de Beze, or meaty and mineral enough to say Cote-Rotie. Medium in body, with silky tannins supporting fresh raspberry and kirsch flavor, and suave mocha and smoky bacon notes adding depth. Impressively balanced, elegant wine, offering a deft mix of fresh berry, meat and musky earth tones, and finishing on a bright, persistent mineral

2005 Colgin "Cariad" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this bottle of 2005 Colgin "Cariad" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (100RP, 97VN, 95WE, 94JS, 94ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The blend that Colgin fashions from three vineyards owned by David Abreu (Madrona, Thorevilos and Howell Mountain) is called Cariad. The 2005 Proprietary Red Cariad consists of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 9% Petit Verdot. Offering up spring flowers and garden aromas, sweet blueberry and black raspberry fruit, a touch of charcoal embers, graphite and background toast, it is fleshy and full-bodied, and again, meriting a three-digit score. This is absolutely remarkable wine. As it sat in the glass, it developed some rather compelling chocolaty, licorice undertones. This is a great classic to drink over the next 20-25 years. By the way, for those interested, the cooperage generally chosen is dominated by Taransaud barrels, but there are at least four different coopers. (RP)" (06/2015)

Wine Spectator: " *Collectibles* I love the purity of fruit in this wine, with perfectly ripe blackberry, blueberry and raspberry on the nose. Complex and full-bodied, with hints of new oak and wonderfully polished tannins that caress the palate. Long, long finish. This is not the blockbuster it was from barrel, but rather a complete, balanced and gorgeous red. Best after 2015. (JS)" (06/2008)

2005 Shafer "Hillside Select" Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 2005 Shafer "Hillside Select" Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon (99RP, 95WS, 94JS, 94VN, 94W&S). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: " ... The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select (about 2,000 cases produced) is another one of those 'wow' wines, but it does it with a sort of measured richness and restraint and extraordinary subtle character, like the Gary Cooper of Napa Cabernet Sauvignons -- authentic, tall, straight-boned, but substantial and worthy of introspection. Inky purple, with a classic nose of creme de cassis, licorice, a touch of vanilla and forest floor, the wine hits the palate with a gorgeous display of measured, but substantial fruit, body and intensity. Not a component is out of place, and the wine remarkably pure and persuasive. Combine great winemaking with great viticulture and a special terroir, and this is the result. Readers are in the presence of genius when tasting this wine. (RP)" (06/2015)

2005 Domaine Michel Lafarge Volnay "Vendanges Sélectionnées"
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Michel Lafarge Volnay "Vendanges Sélectionnées" ((90-91RP), 90BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From four parcels proximate in geography and potential quality to their uphill, premier cru neighbors comes the Lafarge 2005 Volnay Vendanges Selectionnees. Deeper, darker and denser in color, structure and flavor than the “regular” Volnay at this address (and as such more typical of this vintage), this offers generous black cherry and plum with tart fruit skin and bitter fruit pit adjuncts. A rich meatiness puts one in mind a bit of Pommard (not surprising given that two of the vineyards incorporated into this bottling lie on the communal line), as does this wine’s firm tannic backbone. Wet stone and humus notes add complexity to the persistently bright fruit and rich meatiness. (DS)" (06/2007)

Of the 2002 Alex Gambal Echézeaux Grand Cru,Allen Meadows - Burghound writes: "Also very reserved and a touch austere with incredibly spicy and pure black fruit aromas that merge into dense, moderately robust, decidedly old style burgundy flavors of simply stupendous complexity. This is a very powerful wine yet it is also exquisitely well balanced and finishes with mouth coating sap and solid, indeed quite firm structure. 2005 Bodegas Muga "Prado Enea" Gran Reserva Rioja
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Bodegas Muga "Prado Enea" Gran Reserva Rioja (95RP, 94ST, 92W&S). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Prado Enea Gran Reserva spends 36-months in oak, nine months in new oak after which it is racked into American oak that is "semi-new" (i.e. a new barrel that is "broken in" with a wine beforehand). It has an unashamedly opulent bouquet of primal, ripe, boysenberry, mulberry, dark chocolate and crushed violets that blossom with aeration. The palate is full-bodied with crisp acidity cutting through the pure blackberry and cassis fruit. It has wonderful focus and intensity, though the finish demonstrates convincing composure. This is an outstanding Gran Reserva whose silky texture will instantly win you over. Drink 2013-2030+. (NM)" (08/2012)

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils Clos Vougeot Grand Cru ((93-96BH), (91-94ST), (89-91RP)). Allen Meadows - Burghound: " Note that I was shown two versions of this wine, one from Domaine fruit and another that was purchased. Prost indicated that there might be two wines released or they might be blended. The wine reviewed here is from Domaine fruit and was significantly better than the purchased example. A ripe, reserved and cool nose of flat out gorgeous complexity leads to beautifully delineated, powerful and robust flavors that somehow manage to remain understated on the hugely long and spicy finish. This has the 'wow' factor in spades and is a strong candidate for the Clos de Vougeot of the vintage (along with the Leroy and Dr. George Mugneret versions). Drink: 2020+ *Don't miss!* " (04/2007)

A wine of intensity and pure Napa Valley voluptuousness, the 2005 hits all the right notes. Mocha, chocolate, dark cherry fruit and licorice are pushed forward in this sexy, racy, Tychson Hill. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2005 Zind-Humbrecht "Rangen de Thann - Clos St Urbain" Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Alsace (93ST, 92RP, 91WS). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright golden-orange color. Deeply pitched but pure aromas of spices, smoked meat and flint. Supersweet, thick and powerful, conveying a chewy impression of soil without coming across as rough-edged or phenolic. This has VT richness. Fine acidity and a powerful spice character give shape and lift to this unctuous, silky wine. Humbrecht says the r.s. here is less than 50 grams per liter. (ST)" (07/2007)

Of the 2005 Domaine Pavelot (Jean-Marc & Hughes) Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru "Aux Gravains" (1.5L),Allen Meadows - Burghound writes: "Here the fruit runs primarily toward the red end of the spectrum with subtle hints of stone and earth that also mark the rich, full and sweet flavors that display their usual fine detail and the linear, indeed almost strict finish that goes on and on. While La Dominode quite rightly gets the lion's share of the adulation in the Pavelot portfolio, the Gravains is the unsung hero in my view." (04/2007)

Bid on this bottle of 2005 Larcis-Ducasse, St-Emilion (100RP, 95VN, 94ST, 94WS). Of the 2005 Domaine d'Ardhuy Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru "Les Peuillets",Allen Meadows - Burghound writes: "As it often is, this is the most elegant of this Savigny group with high-toned and pure red Pinot fruit aromas that exude a fine sense of underlying minerality that continues onto the detailed, sweet and beautifully balanced and harmonious middle weight flavors that possess real finishing verve. Terrific Peuillets that could actually be approached now as the structure is seamlessly integrated. *Outstanding*" (01/2007)

Of the 2005 Simon Bize et Fils Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru "Aux Vergelesses",Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "From above the eponymous Pernand cru, Bize’s 2005 Savigny-les-Beaune Aux Vergelesses suggests black cherry, blackberry, beet root, and high-toned distillates of black fruit on the nose. With a palate concentration approaching bitterness, this saturates the palate with black fruits, fruit pits, brown spices, beef marrow, and distinctly salty and chalky mineral suggestions. The tannins are quite refined. (And by the way, only 15% new barrels were employed.) Finishing with continued clarity and brightness as well as real grip, it makes a superb case for the inherent complexity of Savigny’s top sites.

Of the 2005 Vincent Girardin Corton-Renardes Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes,Allen Meadows - Burghound writes: "Fairly strong reduction can't completely hide the sauvage, indeed outright gamy character of the nose and this strong meat and feral quality continues onto the rich, full, serious and utterly delicious flavors that possess the best depth of this trio of Cortons as there is really lovely balance and energy on the long finale." Of the 2004 Thomas Dundee Hills Pinot Noir,Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar writes: "Bright red. 2005 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2005 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac (97RP, 96WS, 95ST, 94WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Possibly the youngest wine of all the 2005 Médocs in terms of its evolution, at age 10 the inky purple 2005 Pontet-Canet tastes more like a two-year-old wine. Loads of pure blueberry, blackberry and cassis fruit are present along with a hint of licorice and background oak. It is full-bodied, ripe, and excruciatingly fresh, vigorous and exuberant. This is a tour de force, and a sensational effort that rivals the first growths. Give it another 5-10 years of cellaring, and drink it over the following 30-40 years. 97+ points." (06/2015)

Sweet, powerful and just beginning to show the early signs of maturity, the 2005 is super-expressive. Smoke, licorice, tobacco, graphite and a host of savory notes meld together in a sumptuous, textured Cabernet Sauvignon long on power and class. The 2005 is in a great place today. (AG)" (10/2015)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2005 Zind-Humbrecht "Rangen de Thann - Clos St. Urbain" Pinot Gris Grand Cru Alsace (94VN, 93WS, 92RP). Vinous: "Dark golden yellow. White peach, green apple, minerals and botanical herbs on the forward but refined nose, complicated by a hint of spicy botrytis. Sweet, dense and leesy, conveying a compelling, delicately creamy texture and outstanding depth to its lemony noble rot-accented baked apple and herbal flavors. Finishes vibrant and long, with only a hint of residual sweetness (27.6 g/ residual sugar balanced by 6.3 g/l total acidity, with a 3.7 pH). Though less showy than most of the other vintages in this tasting, it showcases the classic, harmonious personality typical of the 2005 vintage in Alsace ... (ID)" (06/2016)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Bertrand Ambroise Corton Grand Cru "Le Rognet" ((93-94RP)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Sandalwood, machine oil, blackberry and cassis rise from the glass of 2005 Corton Rognets. In the mouth, this exhibits admirable purity and clarity of raw black fruits, low-toned charred meat, chalk, salt and wet stone minerality. Formidably yet finely tannic, this darkly-shaded and multi-layered wine really mines the mineral profundity of Corton and epitomizes the raw fruit intensity of which the vintage is capable. Of the 2005 Domaine Gagey (Louis Jadot) Beaune 1er Cru “Cent Vignes”,Allen Meadows - Burghound writes: " A notably ripe red and blue berry fruit nose is nuanced by chalk, minerals and abundant spice notes that continue onto the toasty, rich, full and massively powerful flavors that are suave and superbly concentrated, all wrapped in a very Bonnes Mares style finish as this is chewy but not rustic. An impressive wine where the finish doesn't seem to ever end. *Don't Miss*" (04/2007)

Of the 2005 Château de Chorey Beaune 1er cru “Vignes Franches” Vieilles Vignes,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "From just below the Clos des Mouches, the Chateau de Chorey’s 2005 Beaune Vignes Franches successfully combines sweetness of fruit and immediate charm with density, complexity and ageworthiness. Blackberry, cassis, game, violet, and gentian in the nose lead to a creamy palate marked by black fruits and striking florality. High-toned distilled and bright fresh fruit, smoky and floral elements persist in a long, refined finish. The tannins are really well hidden, and there will probably be no need to hurry in uncorking this beauty. But I would check

Of the 2005 Domaine Bruno Clair Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru "La Dominode",Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "From vines planted in 1902, the Clair 2005 Savigny-les-Beaune La Dominodes is uncompromisingly concentrated, meaty, salty and pithy. Scents of wood smoke, tobacco, bitter black fruits and pungent herbs rise from the glass. This stains the palate like a medicinal remedy of black cherry, tincture of iodine, and herbal essences. (What’s the disease? I’ll catch it!) Amazingly sinewy, muscular and energetic, it epitomizes the uncompromising, lean Bruno Clair style, not to mention the fruit of vines too old to waste their juices trying to flatter the critics. Arguably the greatest wine in Savigny, Clair’s Dominode nearl

Of the 2005 Camille Giroud Beaune 1er Cru “Les Avaux”,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "From a parcel of old vines still owned by the Giroud family, the 2005 Beaune Les Cras lives up to its name in the densely chalky, stony underpinnings it offers to fresh mulberry fruit. In the mouth, this proves strikingly viscous, with deep meatiness and minerality tinged with brown spices, and fresh, ripe yet faintly tart fruit. It finishes with a vivid reprise of chalk and stone. This fascinating wine is for those with 15-20 years’ patience and a geological predilection. (DS)" (04/2007)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Arlaud Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru "Ruchots" (91BH, (90-91RP), 91VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From under the Clos de Tart and the tiny Morey sliver of Bonnes Mares, a 2005 Morey-St.-Denis Les Ruchots (aged in 40% new wood and recently assembled) had already been racked twice when I tasted, due to previous reduction. A good shaking was once again in order, at which point candied maraschino cherry and cinnamon candy aromas and flavors emerge. Intensely sweet red and black cherry accompanied by brown spices and hints of wood on a finely-tannic palate would not seem at all out of place in the New World. The finish is certainly flamboyantly fruity, penetrating, and pure, with the tannins quite well covered-over. (DS)" (04/2007)
