2005 Domaine Bouchard Pere et Fils Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des Chênes"
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Bouchard Pere et Fils Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des Chênes" (93BH, (89-92ST), 90RP). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "*** Sweet Spot - Outstanding *** By contrast to the toast of the Taillepieds, here the wood is more deftly applied as it is seamlessly integrated on both the nose and the palate, particularly on the rich, full, sweet, intense and powerful flavors where the obvious muscle continues onto the less mineral-infused but with even more impressive raw material. This is flat out superb and it's remarkable just how different these two wines are from one another, yet the vineyards abut." (04/2007)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Joseph Drouhin Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Clos de la Garenne" (92BH, 91WS). Allen Meadows - Burghound: " A ripe but quite fresh mix of both white and yellow orchard fruit that evidences a top note of rose petal complements to perfection the rich, full-bodied and relatively powerful yet refined middle weight flavors that possess an opulent mid-palate, all wrapped in a palate staining and seductively textured finish. This is a very stylish '05 with plenty of palate coating dry extract that imparts a suave mouth feel yet there is enough supporting acidity such that this remains light on the palate. Lovely juice that has just now hit its peak though it should easily hold at this level for another decade, perhaps longer." (04/2012)

2005 Pahlmeyer Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Pahlmeyer Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (95CG, 95RP, 94ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As for the 2005 Proprietary Red, it is a blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% each Petit Verdot and Malbec. While this might not be the blockbuster one would expect, there is outstanding depth, purity and overall texture and ripeness. Again, terrific acidity gives the wine vigor and precision, despite a lofty 15.2% alcohol. The wine is fresh and pure, with black raspberry and blackcurrant fruit, some white floral notes, and the telltale forest floor. This is a wine to drink over the next 10-15+ years. Pahlmeyer’s wines age well, as I am still working off the 1995 and 1996 Proprietary Reds, which remain in great shape. (RP)" (06/2015)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This sensational, opaque blue/purple-colored wine from Smith Haut Lafitte has a gorgeous floral nose with notes of graphite, blueberries, blackberries, and cassis that jump from the glass of this inky, very dense, yet strikingly pure wine. Light on its feet despite its stunning concentration and multi-layered mouthfeel, this wine has fabulous intensity, richness and length. Quite impressive, and still incredibly youthful, this is a superstar of the vintage, and capable of lasting another 25-30 years. (RP)" (06/2015)

Bid on this bottle of 2005 Domaine Méo-Camuzet Clos Vougeot Grand Cru (94BH, (93-94RP), 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Clos Vougeot displays roasted, singed meatiness along with bitter-sweet, szechuan pepper-tinged mulberry fruit. Boasting terrific density on the palate, fineness of tannin, clarity of fruit, and saline, chalk and wet stone manifestations of mineral, this finishes with pungent spice and stone fruit. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Amiot-Servelle Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Charmes" (92BH, 91ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Here the aromas are quite ripe, running more to dark berry and black cherry with traces of spice and underbrush that can also be found on the rich, full and generous flavors that are sweet and mouth coating. This is wonderfully fresh and refined with dusty tannins and excellent intensity on the balanced and beautifully long finale. I quite like this as there is a real sense of vibrancy in the mouth. A classic Charmes that is built to age." (01/2008)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine de la Pousse d'Or Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru ((92-95BH), 93RP, 93ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "In contrast to the relatively open nose of the Bressandes, the Clos du Roi is brooding, reserved and somber though the most black and dark berry fruit aromas are ripe and spicy and this spice character continues onto the rich, power and robust flavors that are supported by a balanced core of sap and an extremely firm but not hard core of tannins. This is a big wine yet it remains relatively refined and is clearly built for the long haul. (AM)" (04/2007)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A glorious wine from Domaine de Chevalier, this 2005 reveals notes of graphite, subtle charcoal, blackberry and blackcurrant fruit, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, silky tannins, and a long, multi-dimensional finish. This is a killer effort from the Bernard family, who own this famous terroir in Pessac-Léognan. Drink it over the next 20-30 years. (RP)" (06/2015)

A really lovely effort and the best vintage for this wine since it was replanted." (07/2007)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Bouchard Pere et Fils Volnay 1er Cru "Taillepieds" (92BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "*Outstanding* This too is relatively toasty and very ripe, indeed to the point of where there are notes of deep plum, mocha, black berry and subtle spice hints that lead to intensely mineral and highly complex and nuanced flavors that benefit from a distinct sense of lift and detail because of the almost pungent minerality of the firmly structured and hugely long finish. This isn't really my style but there is no doubting the underlying quality of the raw material. " (04/2007)

Aromas of cherry and chocolate liqueur; smells like a caramelly truffle. Sweet, round and voluptuous, but with lovely acidity giving energy to the middle palate. 2005 La Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des 60 Ouvrées"
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 La Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des 60 Ouvrées" ((92-94BH), 94RP, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Volnay Caillerets Clos des 60 Ouvrees (like the Clos d’Audinac and Clos de la Bousse d’Or, a monopole) features the oldest vines in the estate’s Volnay holdings, more than half of them planted in the mid fifties. Black cherry, purple plum, pistachio, ginger, and cumin inform the nose. On the palate this offers old vines creaminess, flattering glycerin, and yet also a persistently bright freshness of black fruits. A deep, lingering, faintly caramel-inflected bitter-sweetness, spice, and chalk further testifies to the concentration in this wine, which surpasses the Bousse d’Or in structure and gives it a hard run for its money in the charm department. Check on this in 8-10 years but then figure on another decade of improvement in the cellar. (DS)" (04/2007)

Wine Spectator: "*Ranked #5 on Top 100 Wines of 2008, Highly Recommended* This is dense and chewy, but not tiring to drink, thanks to fresh acidity and an edgy, gravelly feel that drives the blackberry, currant and sweet spice notes. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Rochioli "West Block" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir ((96-100RP), 94WE, 93ST, 90BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the most stupendous Russian River Pinots I have ever tasted, there are just over 400 cases of this amazing wine. A ruby/purple color is accompanied by an extraordinary nose of forest floor, spring flowers, blackberries, and sweet cherries. A steely structure gives way to a wine of superb depth, richness, dimensions, length, and purity. There are 400 cases of this astounding effort, which was aged in 75% new French oak. Clear and invigorating in fruit, yet creamy and mouth-coating, this brings spices, flowers and a note of chalk into its long, refined finish. Bid on this bottle of 2005 Domaine Geantet-Pansiot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Les Poissenots" (95RP, (89-92BH), 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From a single premier cru parcel planted by Geantet’s grandfather in 1949 in the nose-bleed bleachers of the commune (above Lavaux St.-Jacques and Les Verroilles), the 2005 Gevrey-Chambertin Le Poissenot displays a uniquely alkaline, and maritime note in the nose, along with scents of ripe black cherry and roasted game. This presents terrific depth and richness on the palate, offering a veritable butcher shop of carnal delights, including raw beef, salted, smoked pork and long-hung game. Not that fruit is slighted: there is strong, sweetly ripe black cherry throughout, and a malbec-like amalgam of black raspberry, white pepper and cardamom emerges as the wine takes on air. Creamy, rich, sappy, and sleek, this finishes with gum-clinging strength and refinement, invigoratingly saline and brightly black-fruited. A delight already, this dist

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Courcel 2005 Pommard Rugiens comes from the chalkiest, upper portion of that great site (in fact, just below the domaine’s Vaumuriens). Everything about this wine just seems to be pulling together today – and in a promising direction. Mulberry, cassis, roasted meats, and black chocolate in the nose are joined by stimulatingly salty and soy-like savory notes on the palate. Full and rich but finely structured with incipient creaminess of texture, this displays impressive reach and grip and a seamless integration of fruit, meat, and mineral elements. (DS)" (07/2007)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru "Champans" (94BH, (91-93RP), 93ST, 93WS). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Remarkably this has changed relatively little since my initial in-bottle review amost 10 years ago as the ripe raspberry liqueur-like nose evidences hints of spice, violets, earth and underbrush. The vibrant, pure, round and naturally sweet medium-bodied flavors possess excellent intensity on the precise, powerful and mineral-driven finish. There is a beautiful tension to this wine and while there is a serious tannic backbone, this seems supple on the mid-palate because the structure is so well-buffered. This is still very much on the way up and should easily see its 50th birthday (and many more) in superb condition. As such I would strongly advise letting this beauty continue to slumber." 2005 Peter Michael "La Carrière" Knights Valley Chardonnay
Bid on this bottle of 2005 Peter Michael "La Carrière" Knights Valley Chardonnay (95RP, 92ST, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 La Carriere (1,900 cases) is sensational and showing much better than it did last year, and then it was pretty stunning. This wine has terrific fresh acidity that buttresses the lemon and orange blossom notes mixed with honeyed pear and hints of peach and nectarine. A gorgeous, mineral-laced Chardonnay, it should drink nicely for 5-7 years. (RP)" (12/2007)

Of the 2005 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape,Wine Spectator writes: "*Top Wine of 2007* Really tight now, but packed with dark fig, currant, espresso, licorice and chocolate notes. Superfleshy but seriously structured, there's layer after layer of sweet spice, fruit and minerality pumping through the finish, with lots of latent depth and power. Far more backward than the 2003 or 2004 on release, but since this red typically puts on weight as it ages, it should be a monster--à la the 1990--when it reaches its peak. Of the 2005 Dal Forno Romano Valpolicella Superiore,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "Dal Forno should really change the name of his 2005 Valpolicella Superiore. It is really an Amarone for all practical intents and purposes, as it is made entirely from fruit that has been dried, albeit for less time than that legally required for Amarone. Firm, sturdy tannins frame blackberries, blueberries, violets and new leather in the 2005 Valpolicella. This is an especially structured, shut-down wine, even within the context of Dal Forno. The wine’s gorgeous inner perfume and sheer depth suggest that all that is required is patience. With time in the glass the tannins soften just enough to get a glimpse of what is in store for those who can wait a few years.

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Michel Gaunoux Pommard 1er Cru "Les Grands Epenots" (94BH, 92WS). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A ripe, serious and brooding nose is composed of impressively complex red currant, blue berry, plum, violet and warm earth aromas. Given how the '05s are generally showing today, the tannins are actually quite fine and like the '08 Rugiens, the mouth feel of the robust yet focused flavors is highly sophisticated. This should be capable of aging for decades and will need at least one more. " (05/2011)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Syrah Pelkan Ranch, a Knight’s Valley appellation, is turning out to be one of the top Syrahs in Carlisle’s portfolio. Black purple in color with notes of acacia flowers, blackberry, and hints of plum and fig, this is a full-bodied, opulent wine with terrific purity, density, and richness. 2005 Harlan Estate Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this bottle of 2005 Harlan Estate Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (98RP, 97VN, 96JS, 95WE, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Its bigger brother, or sister, depending on the point of view, is the extremely young, fresh, vigorous, yet still exuberant and promising 2005 Harlan Estate. Normally, the blends on these wines tend to be 85%-90% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest tiny proportions of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and possibly some Petit Verdot, although I don’t recall that being a very important part of the estate vineyard. The 2005 is incredibly youthful at age ten, although certainly drinkable. And who wouldn’t consume it if they had the opportunity? It will benefit from another 5-10 years of cellaring and certainly has 30 or more years left in its evolutionary curve. Gorgeous, and tasting akin to a hypothetical Pauillac blended with a great Pessac-Léognan from Bordeaux comes to mind because of the smoky, subtle barbecue notes, fruitcake, forest floor, graphite and minerality.
