2007 Domaine Roulot Meursault 1er Cru "Les Charmes"
Bid on this bottle of 2007 Domaine Roulot Meursault 1er Cru "Les Charmes" (93BH, 92ST, 90RP). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Unlike this wine in 750 ml (see there review herein), there was no touch of unabsorbed sulfur on the nose though there was a mild note of reduction that still allowed the aromas of acacia blossom, hazelnut and brioche to be appreciated. There is good richness to the detailed, textured and silky medium-bodied flavors that caress the palate on the minty and still noticeably tight finish. Not surprisingly in magnum format this is still very much on the way up so I would recommend giving this at least another 5 to 10 years of cellar time first." (12/2015)

2002 Quilceda Creek Washington Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 2002 Quilceda Creek Washington Cabernet Sauvignon (98RP, 97WE, 93ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Almost as good as the 2003, the 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc that spent 22 months in 100% new French oak. Its youthful purple/ruby color is followed by gorgeously complex and intense aromas of wild herbs, exotic spices, caramelized beef, licorice and layers of sweet black fruits and creamy black cherry-like nuances. Full-bodied, rich and incredibly youthful, it opens up beautifully in the glass and is a total thrill ride of a Washington State Cabernet. I’d enjoy bottles over the coming decade, but it will hold longer. Drink now-2027. (JD)" (06/2013)

Bid on this bottle of 2007 Marcassin "Three Sisters Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Chardonnay (96RP, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Chardonnay Three Sisters Vineyard (a terrific site owned by the Martinelli family) reveals a straw color with a greenish hue (always a positive sign) and a wonderful citrus oil, lemon blossom and crushed rock-scented perfume with a subtle hint of oak as well as a distinctive minerality. 1965 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1965 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac. One of the rarest vintages, the 1965 Mouton Rothschild features the artwork of Dorothea Tanning. Mouton-Rothschild, always in the forefront of the greatest wines of Bordeaux, was the first estate to begin complete chateau-bottling of the harvest -- a historic step initiated in 1924 by the late Philippe de Rothschild. It is the only chateau in the Classification of 1855 to achieve reclassification. In 1973, it was finally moved from a second growth to a first.

2010 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2010 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (97VN, 96ST, 96W&S, 91RP, 90CG, 90WE). Vinous: "The 2010 Monte Bello is just as stunning as it has always been. Today, the 2010 appears to be entering a closed phase, so it is best left alone for at least another 5-10 years, perhaps longer. The signatures are super-ripe, exotic fruit, sweet aromatics and firm tannins, all of which ensure the 2010 will be utterly magnificent in a few decades. The growing season was characterized by mostly cold weather, with an unexpectedly intense heat spike in mid-October that gave the fruit a final push. One of the things that makes this vintage so compelling is the interplay of firm structural elements from the cold year and a high level of ripeness that was achieved late. In my view, the 2010 is one of the most thrilling recent Monte Bellos, however it won't be ready to drink for a number of years and it won't peak for quite some time beyond that.

Sweet red cherries, licorice, mint, cinnamon and dried flowers are all woven together in this beautifully balanced wine. The 2009 has lovely mid-palate pliancy to match its radiant, generous personality. I tasted the 2009 Merlot after all the Pride Cabernets and it more than held its own. Very Bordeaux-like, with a St.-Julien-like personality, there are notes of crushed stones, gunflint, licorice, cedar wood, Christmas fruitcake and loads of red and blackcurrants. Buttered pears and minerals are found in its nose. A wine of superb breadth, this seamless, medium-bodied offering coats the palate with ripe apples, spiced pears, and honeyed minerals. Plum, black cherry, menthol, tobacco and licorice meld together gracefully as the 2011 opens up in the glass. The combination of fruit and structure is compelling. While the nose is terrific, the palate is where this really shines and it's full-bodied, concentrated and ultra-pure, with lots of fine tannin that keep the finish going. 2011 Abreu "Las Posadas" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (OWC)
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2011 Abreu "Las Posadas" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend in original wood. About the producer: "Growing up, Napa Valley was David Abreu's playground as well as his classroom. Born into a family of ranchers, he spent the better part of his youth working in Napa's original vineyards. Over time, David's sense of what makes a site stand out—why one vineyard makes great wine and another's is just good—was sharpened beyond the ordinary. Eventually, intuition and experience led him to four exceptional vineyard properties: Madrona Ranch, Cappella, Las Posadas, and Thorevilos. He planned and planted each one. And with an uncompromising—some might say insane—commitment to quality, he and his crew farm them to perfection. Alongside Brad Grimes, a chef turned winemaker, he whittles one hundred barrels down to just 12,000 bottles of single-site Cabernet blends. You could call it passion beyond reason. And you may be right."

This is clearly one of Napa Valley’s iconic wineries, as well as one that, amazingly, never went through a bad patch. Obviously, no matter which generation is in the driver’s seat (or should I say tractor’s seat), Caymus Vineyard knows how to deliver flavor and deliciousness. They appear to be immune to some of winedom’s less than intelligent trends and fads that we see from time to time, and the result is a spectacular 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon 40th Anniversary offering. Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1997 Peter Michael "Les Pavots" Knights Valley Bordeaux Blend (96RP, 92ST, 92W&S, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1997 Les Pavots originates from a hillside vineyard overlooking the Knight's Valley that has 23 acres planted with Bordeaux varietals. The 1997 blend consists of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, and 9% Cabernet Franc. The wine was aged in French oak (50% new), and bottled without filtration. Fortunately, there are 4,351 cases of 750 ml bottles, as well as 330 cases of magnums. A blue/black/purple color is followed by an extraordinary bouquet of toast, blackberries, creme de cassis, licorice, and cedar. Full-bodied, with silky tannin, low acidity, and layers of concentrated, pure black fruits judiciously wrapped in subtle toasty oak, this wine can be drunk early, but promises to hit its peak in 5-7 years, and last for two or more decades." Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1986 Gruaud Larose, St-Julien (96RP, 95ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Still tasting as if it were only 7-8 years of age, the dense, garnet/purple-colored 1986 Gruaud-Larose is evolving at a glacier pace. The wine still has mammoth structure, tremendous reserves of fruit and concentration, and a finish that lasts close to a minute. The wine is massive, very impressively constituted, with still some mouth-searing tannin to shed. Decanting of one to two hours in advance seems to soften it a bit, but this is a wine that seems to be almost immortal in terms of its longevity. It is a great Medoc classic, and certainly one of the most magnificent Gruaud-Larose ever made. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2035. (RP)" (01/2003)

Dark red cherry, mocha, spice, new leather, mint and cloves are all laced together in a wine that captures the relaxed, easygoing style of the year. Sumptuous, expressive and wonderfully resonant in the glass, the 2012 has it all. This is a stunning effort from the team at Ovid. A great example of the vintage at its very, very best. This is a remarkable set of wines from Ovid. The 2012s have grown in bottle considerably since I last tasted them about a year ago. Winemaker Austin Peterson describes 2012 as a more relaxed and leisurely growing season than either 2013 and 2014, both of which were early. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2011 Kapcsándy Family Winery "State Lane Vineyard - Estate Cuvée" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend ((91-94ST), 93JS, 90RP). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good full, deep red. Highly perfumed aromas of black fruits and licorice, with a hint of candied berries. Silky but youthfully restrained, with classically dry flavors of black fruits, licorice and graphite. Best today on the very long, firmly tannic back end, which promises a slow and graceful evolution in bottle. (ST)" (05/2013)

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2010 Domaine Bouchard Pere & Fils Clos Vougeot Grand Cru (94BH, (90-93ST)). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is really quite aromatically refined, indeed the expressive nose is highly perfumed and speaks of floral, plum and black cherry scents layered with a subtle earthiness. The sense of refinement continues onto the palate as the focused, intense and sleekly muscular flavors evidence good power on the balanced, long and only moderately austere finish. As Clos de Vougeot typically goes, this is a very refined example. (AM)" (04/2012)

2002 Frédéric Magnien Romanée-St-Vivant Grand Cru
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2002 Frédéric Magnien Romanée-St-Vivant Grand Cru. From Allen Meadows: "Frédéric Magnien reports that 2002 was 'a very easy vintage to vinify even though the fermentations were quite slow. We had a primary fermentation of around 20 days versus only 12 in 2001. The '02s effectively received two extra days of cold maceration as I don't control the temperatures and since the crop was harvested at between 13 and 15° C, it took every bit of the two days for the temperatures to climb in the vats. In terms of the harvest, there was a bit less yield and with much thicker skins compared to 2001. Sugars were very good as 70% of the wines were not chaptalized. The other important aspect is that there is no hardness to the wines as the tannins are very ripe and round, in fact almost sweet. And thanks to the thick skins, the wines are dense with a solid feel to them and while they were perhaps less classic than the '01s, it still is a relatively classic vintage. I prefer

2005 Sine Qua Non "17th Nail In My Cranium" Sta. Rita Hills Syrah
Bid on this bottle of 2005 Sine Qua Non "17th Nail In My Cranium" Sta. Rita Hills Syrah (100RP, 98WS, 97ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Syrah The 17th Nail In My Cranium, a blend of 96.5% Syrah and 3.5% Viognier which is aged 38 months prior to bottling. (I always wonder what Marcel Guigal would think of a wine like this which seems to tip its hat in the direction of Cote Rotie and then goes into high gear and clearly says, "I’m just something very different, but thanks for even thinking of that appellation while smelling and tasting me.") Black as a moonless night, the 2005 17th Nail reveals a stunning nose of spring flowers intermixed with creme de cassis, blackberries, charcoal, graphite, and hints of lard and barbecue spices. Dense, with an endless (and I mean endless) finish, remarkable purity, and layer upon layer of flavor, but no sense of heaviness or flabbiness, this prodigious Syrah should evolve for 15 or more years. 1990 Montrose, St-Estèphe
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1990 Montrose, St-Estèphe (100RP, 95ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The final blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc was harvested between September 14 and October 3. The spring was cold, yet summer was extremely hot and dry – one of the hottest vintages since 1949. The fact that virtually no rain fell in September served as a catalyst to get all the grapes ripe and in cellars....This wine has an incredibly complex nose of spring flowers, blackberry and cassis liqueur, scorched earth and barbecue spice. It is full-bodied, majestic and opulent, with low acidity and fabulous fruit. It is close to full maturity. The wine should continue to drink well for at least another 30 or more years, but it is showing secondary nuances in the perfume. The wine is absolutely magnificent, broad, savory and mouth-filling. This is one of the all-time modern legends from Bordeaux as well as Chateau Montrose." (08/2014)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1998 Roger Sabon "Le Secret de Sabon" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (100RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Shockingly good, the 1998 Chateauneuf du Pape le Secret du Sabon tastes like a hypothetical blend of the 2007 and the 2001. Powerful, massive, concentrated and beautifully ripe, it offers notions of kirsch, currants, peppered meats, Asian spice and licorice in its seamless, yet voluptuous and hedonistic personality. It's a crazy good bottle of wine that could be considered over-the-top by some, but who cares when it's this good? If I had bottles, I'd line them up for drinking as you don't want to miss this beauty while it's drinking at point. (JD)" (08/2014)

1989 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1989 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac (99RP, 96WS, 95ST, 94JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1989 has taken forever to shed its formidable tannins, but what a great vintage of Lynch Bages! I would rank it at the top of the pyramid... Its dense purple color reveals a slight lightening at the edge and the stunning bouquet offers classic notes of creme de cassis, subtle smoke, oak and graphite. Powerful and rich with some tannins still to shed at age 22, it is still a young adolescent in terms of its evolutionand will benefit from another 4-5 years of cellaring. Wine Enthusiast: "A perfect score has to be considered in the context of its region. Shafer’s 2004 Hillside Select is tremendous as a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon that competes with its peers at the highest levels. It’s always a fabulous wine, but in warm 2004, Shafer’s amphitheater vineyard sheltered the grapes, ripening them to perfection yet protecting the “iron fist in a velvet glove” structure that André Tchelistcheff defined as Stags Leap. This 100% Cabernet is tremendous in cassis, black currant and mocha flavors, and the 100% new French oak provides perfect additions of smoke and caramel. It’s soft and gorgeous enough to drink now, and should age well in a cool cellar for the next 20 years." (03/2009)

2012 Futo "5500" Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2012 Futo "5500" Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon (99RP, 96VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon 5500 is 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Merlot bottled unfined and unfiltered after 18-20 months in oak. Futo practices long lees contact, five-day prefermentation cold soak and only one racking, which is when the barrels are racked directly into the tank prior to bottling. This is a stunning wine, and it was not easy to back off a perfect score, but maybe that will come with another several years of bottle age. The wine has profound intensity, amazing purity and clarity, an inky bluish/purple color, a stunning nose of spring flowers interwoven with crème de cassis, background charcoal, smoldering embers, and a full-bodied mouthfeel. It has an incredible lightness of being, despite its exceptional intensity and richness. This is an amazing wine and a great example of Stags Leap. It should drink well for 30+ years.
