2006 & 2009 Quilceda Creek Columbia Valley Tasting Lot

Of the 2009 Quilceda Creek Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon (98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Merlot) is a ripe, flamboyant and brilliantly proportioned effort that oozes kirsch, licorice, lead pencil shavings and dried spice on the nose. Showing the perfume and headiness of the vintage, it nevertheless stays vibrant and lively on the palate while delivering layers of fruit and texture. While formidably structured and tannic, it can be enjoyed now due to the overall tannin quality and purity of fruit. It will evolve and drink well for over two decades. (JD)" (06/2013)

Highly aromatic nose combines dark fruits, dried herbs, violet and forest floor spices. Explosively sweet and deep, with a spicy core of dark fruit flavors that fans out on the back half to saturate the palate. Finishes with strong but lush tannins and captivating violet lift. Remarkably horizontal for a Cabernet-based wine from this vintage. (ST)" (05/2011)

Sweet, round, more transparent than the 1978 Reserve but still long and rich even if it doesn't have that much more to give. Bid on this magnum lot of 1997 Lail Vineyards "J Daniel Cuvee" Napa Valley Red Blend (1.5L) (93RP, 93WE, 90ST, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1997 J. Daniel Cuvee is a blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon and 36% Merlot (1200 cases produced). The dense ruby/purple-colored 1997 boasts a lavishly pure nose of blackberries, cassis, minerals, licorice, chocolate, and toast. It is expansive, with the vintage's tell-tale richness, sweet tannin, and outstanding ripeness and concentration. The persistent finish lasts for nearly 40 seconds. This wine possesses an openness and sweetness that gives it the impression of being ready to drink, but I suspect much more will emerge with aging. " (01/2000)

2005 Continuum Oakville Bordeaux Blend (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum lot of 2005 Continuum Oakville Bordeaux Blend (1.5L) (96RP, 94W&S, 92WE, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This impressive project of Tim Mondavi, from high on Pritchard Hill, has produced a wine that represents an innovative blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Cabernet Franc and 19% Petit Verdot with 14.5% alcohol. Mondavi’s Midas Touch and his vast experience have turned out a gorgeous 2005 Proprietary Red that is still youthful and tastes more like a two- or three-year-old wine than one that’s already a decade old. The dense ruby/purple color offers up notes of incense, floral notes, graphite and subtle background earth and flowers. There is ripe fruit, and when the wine hits the palate, it builds incrementally to a medium to full-bodied, pure, delicious and complex beverage. It has a distinctive persistence and holding power, with a sense of elegance and lightness ... (RP)" (06/2015)

2007 Colgin "Cariad" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this bottle of 2007 Colgin "Cariad" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (100JS, 100RP, 95ST, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There are 550-cases of the perfect 2007 Cariad (original rating was 99), a blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot and the rest equal parts Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. One of northern California’s watershed vintages for Bordeaux varietals, according to Allison Tauziet, this wine revealed great potential from the day the first grapes were crushed. It possesses a dense purple color, massive fruit, soft but high tannin, and a structural profile somewhat similar to the 2002. There appears to be more underlying minerality in the 2007, but the sweetness of the tannin, the enormous concentration of fruit (blackberry, blueberry, cherry) intermixed with graphite, chocolate, coffee and crushed rock characteristics is striking. This is a compelling, even prodigious wine that hits all the palate’s sweet spots, possesses phenomenal upside potential, and is a mod

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2003 Marcassin "Marcassin Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (99RP, 97ST, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I was somewhat surprised to see that the 2003 Estate Pinot Noir merited the same score that it has received every time I have tasted it. Although I have never been able to award it a perfect score, it is as close to perfect as one will find. A terrific success in a vintage that rarely produced Pinot Noir of this quality except at selected micro-climates on the Sonoma coast. A majestic bouquet of black currants, smoky barbecue meat, blueberries and black raspberries soars from the glass of this dark plum/purple-colored wine. Full-bodied and stunningly rich with 14.5-14.7% natural alcohol, it possesses a layer of concentration as well as a multileveled complexity that builds incrementally across the palate." (06/2014)

Layers of fruit blossom in the glass as this fleshy seductive wine continues to open up. Rich and multi-dimensional, the 2009 impresses for the way it covers every inch of the palate. This is a drop-dead gorgeous wine from David Abreu and Brad Grimes. The 2009 is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Cabernet Franc, 10% Petit Verdot and 5% Merlot. 98+ (AG)" (12/2012)

2010 Scarecrow Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2010 Scarecrow Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (98RP, 96VN, 94ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasting the three most recent vintages of the Scarecrow Cabernet Sauvignon was not only a privilege, but also an intellectual and hedonistic turn-on. The 2010 Scarecrow Cabernet Sauvignon (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) is a magnificent wine. Full-bodied and opulent with terrific purity, an intriguing, gravelly, wet stone-like minerality, and a sensational perfume, it has a spectacular finish that lasted over 45 seconds, offering up copious quantities of black currants, black cherries, cedar and vanillin. It is one of the superstars of the vintage. It is accessible now because of the sweetness of the tannins, but make no mistake, there is plenty of structure underlying the luxurious fruit levels. It should drink well for 30+ years. (RP)" (10/2013)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2013 Horsepower "The Tribe Vineyard" Walla Walla Valley Syrah (OWC - 96RP, 95WS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "More straight and focused than the Sur Echalas Vineyard, the 2013 Syrah The Tribe Vineyard is slightly darker in color, with lots of gunpowder, blackberry, blueberry, smoked game and beef blood aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, yet elegant and silky, with a great finish, it's a gorgeously complex, balanced and complete Syrah that has lots of Rocks character, as well as 15 years of more of longevity. I have a slight preference for the Sur Echalas Vineyard Syrah, but these share lots of similarities and are both brilliant wines. (JD)" (06/2015)

2011 Hundred Acre "Ark Vineyard" Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon (OWC)
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2011 Hundred Acre "Ark Vineyard" Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon (OWC - 94RP) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Slightly better is the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Arc Vineyard from Howell Mountain. This wine offers even denser fruit, loads of graphite, mulberry, and blackberry fruit, an enticing minerality, a full-bodied mouthfeel, and again, nothing missing in it. It’s the whole package – rich, concentrated, fleshy and again, quite evolved and supple. Drink it over the next 20+ years. The genius of Jayson Woodbridge is not in dispute. A bigger than life character, he has a certain personal flamboyance and no-prisoners-taken persona, but what he and his team do in the vineyards and winery speaks for itself. These are remarkable wines, with his Cabernet Sauvignons some of the very finest in the world, and his Pinot Noir projects all high quality and pleasing to a multitude of diverse palates. Bid on this bottle of 2006 Sine Qua Non "In The Crosshairs" Sta. Rita Hills Grenache (100RP, 97WS, 96JS, 96ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "2006 In the Cross Hairs 11 Confessions Vineyard: This is Sine Qua Non’s extended barrel-aged Grenache (meaning that in most vintages since 2003, Krankl has produced two cuvees of Grenache, one aged 18-22 months before bottling, and the other one with extended barrel-aging, in this case 32 months in wood). A blend of 84% Grenache, 12% Syrah and 4% Viognier, all from the 11 Confessions Vineyard in the Santa Rita Hills, this is one of the most extraordinarily elegant Grenaches Krankl has produced. It is an intellectual wine, yet it doesn’t wimp out by any means. It lasts for minutes on the finish. The classicism in this wine is second to none. Incredible subtlety. Lovely austerity. Beauty in simplicity. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I am old enough to remember Chuck Wagner and his father, who I first met at Caymus in the late seventies. This is clearly one of Napa Valley’s iconic wineries, as well as one that, amazingly, never went through a bad patch. Obviously, no matter which generation is in the driver’s seat (or should I say tractor’s seat), Caymus Vineyard knows how to deliver flavor and deliciousness. (RP)" (10/2014)

Crushed rocks, lemon peel and white flowers are all very much alive in the glass. This is another of the truly intriguing wines in the range. The Napa is made from a parcel owned by Aubert that David Abreu planted six years ago with a Montrachet selection. The vines are naturally quite young, but the results are already striking. Wine Spectator: "An openly seductive style, with ripe currant, blackberry and wild berry fruit shaded by splashy mocha and espresso bean oak flavors. It's complex and concentrated, but also quite tannic, so if you pull the cork tonight, decant an hour." (09/2005)

1975 Joseph Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this bottle of 1975 Joseph Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (92RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The quality has turned out to be quite high with wines of longevity as well as an unusual elegance and finesse for Napa Valley. This refined wine offers up notes of forest floor as well as streaks of vegetative matter. Medium-bodied and spicy, the wine is dominated by roasted coffee, cedarwood, damp earth and forest floor characteristics. The fruit profile is along the red fruit spectrum rather than the darker blue and black fruits that were present in the 1974. The wine is very fresh, revealing adequate acidity, and largely resolved tannins, but it is sitting on the edge of an abyss, although it is still very much intact. While it remains outstanding and enjoyable, I wouldn't push my luck much further with this vintage ... (RP)" (11/2013)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2011 Cayuse "The Lovers" Walla Walla Valley Red Blend (OWC - 94RP, 93ST, 93WE) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon and a splash of Syrah (10%) that was first made in 2010, the 2011 The Lovers has some solid Cayuse funk, with copious peat moss, herbs, mineral and violets balanced nicely by black-cherry-styled fruit. Medium to full-bodied, layered and nicely textured, it offers plenty of up-front appeal yet should also evolve gracefully. (JD)" (06/2014)

Bid on this bottle of 2006 Colgin "Tychson Hill Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (98RP, 96JS, 94ST, 93VN, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From Colgin’s first-growth quality estate vineyard, Tychson Hill, located north of St. Helena, on the western slopes, the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Tychson Hill Vineyard is performing far better out of bottle than it did from cask. An extraordinary bouquet of flowers, cedar, tobacco leaf, black currants, blueberries, chocolate, and scorched earth scents is followed by a wine of prodigious concentration, purity, depth, and sweet tannins. An amazing effort for this vintage, it is a compelling bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon. (RP)" (12/2008)

Of the 2003 Bond "Pluribus" Napa Valley Red Blend,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 2003 Pluribus (the debut vintage of this cuvee) performed spectacularly. Created from some of the estate’s youngest vines planted in decomposed white tufa volcanic soils at an elevation of 1,100 to 1,300 feet on Spring Mountain, it offers a stunning blue/purple color, copious quantities of blueberries, black raspberries and violet-infused fruit intermixed with hints of foresty flora. Rich, full-bodied and pure, this beautiful 2003 is several years away from full maturity, but it should keep for two more decades. The single vineyard wines represent Bill Harlan’s concept of offering single vineyard, micro-climate/terroir-based wines from distinctive sectors of Napa Valley. (RP)

Bid on this bottle of 2013 Rivers-Marie "Panek Vineyard" St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon (98RP, 93VN, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Panek Vineyard comes from a five-acre, valley-floor vineyard just north of St. Helena near Vineyard 29's Aida. There are 450 cases of this magnificent Cabernet Sauvignon. Notes of Mediterranean herbs intermixed with licorice, blackberry and cassis jump from the glass of this opaque purple wine. Stunningly proportioned, full-bodied, super-intense, with great purity, structure and depth, this wine will benefit from 4-5 years of cellaring and keep for three decades. (RP)" (10/2015)

Bid on this bottle of 2002 Chateau Montelena "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (96RP, 93ST, 93WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This young, classic Cabernet Sauvignon represents the quintessential traditional school of Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. It possesses an inky/blue/purple color in addition to a tight, but promising nose of black currants, crushed rocks, earth and spice. Rich, full-bodied, pure and brilliantly executed, with perfect harmony, this is a sensational yet forebodingly backward, youthful Cabernet Sauvignon that needs 4-6 years of cellaring and should keep another quarter of a century. 96+ (RP)" (06/2012)

2011 Morlet Family Winery "Mon Chevalier" Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2011 Morlet Family Winery "Mon Chevalier" Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon ((91-93VN), 91RP, 91ST). Vinous: "There are plenty of Knights Valley signatures in the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Mon Chevalier. Today the tannins are quite massive and imposing, which attenuates the finish a touch, yet the wine's overall balance is quite strong. The 2011 is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. Luc and Jodie Morlet's 2010s are off the charts. The 2010s have huge structure, but the fruit is so ripe and voluptuous in these wines that the perception of tannin is often imperceptible. The 2009s, on the other hand, are made from grapes that weren't as physiologically ripe, so the tannins remain firm and in need of time in bottle to soften. As good as the Morlet range is, the most exciting wine appears to be the Morlet Estate, from a vineyard in St. Helena the Morlets purchased a few years ago. (AG)" (12/2012)

2013 Orin Swift "Mercury Head" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2013 Orin Swift "Mercury Head" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (98RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 18 months in 50% new French oak, is the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Mercury Head. Certainly one of the more intriguing labels, with a real Mercury-head dime embedded in the glass bottle, this 4,500-case cuvée comes from blocks in Taplin, Morisoli and Atlas Peak vineyards. The final blend is a selection of their best barrels, bottled and aged another six months prior to release. This is a killer Cabernet Sauvignon, full-bodied and multilayered, with stunning blueberry and blackberry fruit, floral acacia notes, a hint of brioche and subtle toasty oak followed by a massive, full-bodied wine with sweet tannin and beautifully integrated acidity, alcohol and wood. This profound Cabernet Sauvignon should drink well now and for 25+ years. Dave Phinney may well be 2015's winemaker of the year for this wine taster. (RP)" (10/2015)

2010 Beringer Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2010 Beringer Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (92RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is richer, deeper and riper than the Knights Valley bottling. Chocolate, mocha, plums and spices come to life in this fleshy, mid-weight wine. Readers who appreciate a more mineral-inflected style of Cabernet will prefer the Knights Valley bottling, while those who appreciate radiant, fruit-forward Cabernets are likely to prefer the Napa Valley. Both are beautiful. The blend is 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% each Petit Verdot and Merlot. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020. This lineup from Beringer is full of highlights. The top Cabernet Sauvignon bottlings are terrific, but I am just as drawn to the entry and mid-tier offerings for their superb value and wide availability in the market. (AG) " (12/2012)

2013 Shafer "Relentless" Napa Valley Syrah
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2013 Shafer "Relentless" Napa Valley Syrah ((98-100RP), (91-93VN)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The same can be said for the 2013 Syrah Relentless, which might end up being the finest one they’ve ever made. The berries were the smallest they’ve encountered, and they were not the only winery to say that about the 2013 red varietals. A blend of 97% Syrah and 3% Petite Sirah, the wine is opaque black/purple with an incredible nose of subtle wood, charcoal embers, blackberry, blueberry and black raspberry fruit, baking spices, and again, a roasted meatiness with some bouquet garni thrown in the background. The complex aromatics were already starting to roar from the glass, and the wine, enormously endowed, is full-bodied and flawlessly constructed. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2011 Marcassin "Marcassin Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Chardonnay (97RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2011 is a great Chardonnay Marcassin Vineyard from a much-maligned and sometimes excessively criticized vintage. 2011 has its low points, but there are many producers who got it right, and survived the challenging growing and harvest conditions. This wine has phenomenal intensity, with plenty of crushed rock, pineapple, honeysuckle, orange and tangerine blossom in an elegant, medium to full-bodied style, with terrific intensity, good acidity and freshness. 2010 Abreu "Madrona Ranch" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2010 Abreu "Madrona Ranch" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (98RP, 98VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Madrona Ranch, which David Abreu told me he crop-thinned by at least 50%, is a more backward, tannic, brooding wine at present. An inky/purple color and lots of baking spice, espresso, black and blue fruits, and hints of graphite and toast emerge from this wine as well as formidable tannins in the finish. However, the tannins are sweet and well-integrated in this big, blockbuster effort. It will require patience by purchasers as it needs to be forgotten for 4-5 years; it will drink well over the following three decades. As a set of wines, it is hard to surpass the four cuvees from the estate vineyards of David Abreu. As I have written many times in the past, all of these wines are truly world-class efforts that stand alongside proprietary red wines made from Bordeaux varietals from any appellation in the world. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2007 Screaming Eagle Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (OWC - 100RP, 100VN, 98WS, 96JS, 96ST) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As impossible as it might seem, the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon takes things to another level. An exquisite, celestial bouquet melds into endless layers of fruit as this rich, voluptuous wine blossoms on the palate. Full-bodied and seductive, the 2007 conquers all of the senses with its head spinning, beautiful personality. As always, Screaming Eagle is a bit more restrained next to Napa Valley's other heavy hitters, yet the pedigree of this opulent vintage comes through in spades. A kaleidoscope of aromas and flavors flows through to the creamy, textured finish. I have tasted the 2007 several times recently and it has always been magnificent. The 2007 appears to be shutting down just a touch, but that is probably a good thing for the future. (AG)" (12/2012)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2011 Scarecrow Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon ((91-93RP), 92ST, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A notable success in an extremely irregular vintage (even more so for Napa’s valley floor vineyards), the 2011 Scarecrow Cabernet Sauvignon possesses a deep ruby/plum/purple color, and a slightly lighter weight and less of a serious foundation of structure than the 2010. However, the wine’s purity and hints of kirsch, black currants, berry fruit and toasty oak are well-displayed and well-integrated into this seamlessly constructed effort. (RP)" (10/2013)

Of the 2013 Sine Qua Non "Female" California Grenache,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "Manfred's 2013 Grenache Female checks in as a blend of 78% Grenache, 19% Syrah and 3% Mourvèdre that is mostly from his Eleven Confessions estate vineyard in Sta. Rita Hills, yet has smaller portions from his Cumulus, The Third Twin and Bien Nacido vineyards. Seeing just over 24 months in a mix of demi-muids, 300-liter Hog Heads and barrique, it has a sensational bouquet of spring flowers, black raspberries, black cherries, violets, licorice and camphor.
