2007 Joseph Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (OWC)
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2007 Joseph Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (OWC - 99RP, 96CG, 96WS, 95JS, 94ST, 94WE, 91W&S) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Aged 24 months in new French oak, this infant 2007 exhibits an inky/purple color along with notes of graphite, spring flowers and smoky oak. This full-bodied, classic Insignia reveals fabulous depth, ripeness, texture, viscosity and richness. Still young and unformed, it should evolve for 25 or more years. Perhaps I should just go ahead and give this 2007 a three-digit score as it is a profoundly great Cabernet Sauvignon-based effort...one of the top Insignias yet produced. (RP)" (11/2013)

2010 Sine Qua Non "Stockholm Syndrome" Sta. Rita Hills Grenache
Bid on this bottle of 2010 Sine Qua Non "Stockholm Syndrome" Sta. Rita Hills Grenache (100RP, 96VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The current release of the estate vineyard (a.k.a. the extended barrel-aged cuvee), the 2010 Grenache Stockholm Syndrome is an incredible effort that I couldn’t find a fault with. A blend of 75% Grenache, 22% Syrah, 2% Roussanne and 1% Viognier, all from the Eleven Confession Vineyard, it spent just under 30 months in 22% new and 78% used French oak prior to bottling. Locked and loaded, it knocks it out of the park with its cassis, licorice, smoked duck, spice-box and exotic herb-styled bouquet. The palate follows suit and while it has the expected depth and richness of the estate, it’s seamless, elegant and lively, with perfect balance, ultra-fine tannin and a finish that just won’t quit. It doesn’t get any better and count yourself lucky if you can latch onto a couple of these. It will thrill for 15-20 years. (JD)" (08/2014)

1997 Philip Togni Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1997 Philip Togni Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (98RP, 98VN, 92ST, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon has to be one of the great buys left for profound Napa Cabernet... Brilliant notes of cedar, spice box, cassis, smoke, and licorice soar from the glass, as if this wine were pretending to be a first-growth Pauillac. Full-bodied, powerful, still with a boatload of tannin to resolve, and just a faint lightening of the dense purple color at the rim, this is a brilliant wine from a vintage that produced relatively quick-evolving wines, but no such thing is tolerated at Philip Togni. This is a great Cabernet Sauvignon with the exuberance, purity, and richness of fruit that Napa provides, but with a Bordeaux structure that Togni, with his Bordeaux upbringing, somehow builds into the wine. This wine will continue to drink well for at least another 30+ years. (RP)" (12/2007)

2013 Futo Proprietary Red He-Li-An-Thus
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2013 Futo Proprietary Red He-Li-An-Thus (92RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine is made from purchased grapes in the Soda Canyon and Atlas Peak region, from white tufa volcanic-laced soils, is the He-Li-An-Thus, which means sunflower. The 2013 Proprietary Red He-Li-An-Thus is a 508-case blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 18% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc from a much cooler area than Futo’s other vineyards. Coming from near the Roy Estate in Soda Canyon, the wine offers notes of blueberry, black raspberry, licorice and forest floor, and has a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel and sweet, ripe tannins. It is a beauty and, like so many 2013s, has a certain restrained character, but super-concentration. (RP)" (10/2015)

2004 Screaming Eagle Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (OWC)
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2004 Screaming Eagle Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (OWC - 97RP, 94ST, 94WS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Aged 20 months in 72% new French oak, this blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc comes from a great vineyard on the valley floor in Oakville, just south of Rudd Estate and Plumpjack. The wine’s dense ruby/purple color is followed by a beautiful, Pauillac-like (think Pontet Canet or Mouton), ethereal perfume of creme de cassis, or as Michael Broadbent used to say, 'celestial black currants,' full body, a velvety texture, fine tannins, a multidimensional mouthfeel, and a terrific finish. While there were no real surprises tasting this wine, I was somewhat intrigued by just how youthful the 2004 Screaming Eagle is showing. I had expected it to reveal slightly more evolution. I thought the 13% Merlot in the blend would push the evolution more quickly. The finish lasts for a full minute. As it has been in just

2007 Peter Michael "Les Pavots" Knights Valley Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2007 Peter Michael "Les Pavots" Knights Valley Bordeaux Blend (97RP, 95WS, 93JS, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 2007 Les Pavots, a Bordeaux varietal blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Cabernet Franc, 10% Merlot, and 3% Petit Verdot, is brilliant. Its opaque purple color is accompanied by gorgeously complex aromas of melted chocolate, espresso roast, blackberries, and cassis. Full-bodied with a superb texture, a subtle note of oak, and fabulous concentration, it is more reminiscent of a Right Bank Bordeaux than one expects with this much Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend. A thirty-year wine, its impeccable balance and the sweetness of its tannins make it accessible already. (RP)" (02/2010)

Bid on this magnum of 2006 Aubert "UV Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (1.5L) (94ST, 92RP). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep, bright red. More earth and iron and less primary fruits and flowers on the nose, owing to the clay content in the soil. Then large-scaled and plump with fruit in the mouth, showing a sappy quality and more energy than the Rueling if not quite the same early pliancy. Blueberry and wild strawberry flavors emerged with air. Finishes lush and broad, with noble tannins and outstanding length. (ST)" (06/2008)

2002 Quilceda Creek Washington Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 2002 Quilceda Creek Washington Cabernet Sauvignon (98RP, 97WE, 93ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Almost as good as the 2003, the 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc that spent 22 months in 100% new French oak. Its youthful purple/ruby color is followed by gorgeously complex and intense aromas of wild herbs, exotic spices, caramelized beef, licorice and layers of sweet black fruits and creamy black cherry-like nuances. Full-bodied, rich and incredibly youthful, it opens up beautifully in the glass and is a total thrill ride of a Washington State Cabernet. I’d enjoy bottles over the coming decade, but it will hold longer. Drink now-2027. (JD)" (06/2013)

Of the 2011 Saxum "Terry Hoage" Paso Robles Rhône Blend,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "More approachable and a sexy, seamless and layered effort, the 2011 Terry Hoage Vineyard (51% Grenache and 49% Syrah) has a distinct floral quality to go with fabulous creme de cassis, black raspberry, violets and licorice aromas and flavors. 2010 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2010 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (97VN, 96ST, 96W&S, 91RP, 90CG, 90WE). Vinous: "The 2010 Monte Bello is just as stunning as it has always been. Today, the 2010 appears to be entering a closed phase, so it is best left alone for at least another 5-10 years, perhaps longer. The signatures are super-ripe, exotic fruit, sweet aromatics and firm tannins, all of which ensure the 2010 will be utterly magnificent in a few decades. The growing season was characterized by mostly cold weather, with an unexpectedly intense heat spike in mid-October that gave the fruit a final push. One of the things that makes this vintage so compelling is the interplay of firm structural elements from the cold year and a high level of ripeness that was achieved late. In my view, the 2010 is one of the most thrilling recent Monte Bellos, however it won't be ready to drink for a number of years and it won't peak for quite some time beyond that.

Very Bordeaux-like, with a St.-Julien-like personality, there are notes of crushed stones, gunflint, licorice, cedar wood, Christmas fruitcake and loads of red and blackcurrants. Sweet red cherries, licorice, mint, cinnamon and dried flowers are all woven together in this beautifully balanced wine. The 2009 has lovely mid-palate pliancy to match its radiant, generous personality. I tasted the 2009 Merlot after all the Pride Cabernets and it more than held its own. Plum, black cherry, menthol, tobacco and licorice meld together gracefully as the 2011 opens up in the glass. The combination of fruit and structure is compelling. While the nose is terrific, the palate is where this really shines and it's full-bodied, concentrated and ultra-pure, with lots of fine tannin that keep the finish going. This is clearly one of Napa Valley’s iconic wineries, as well as one that, amazingly, never went through a bad patch. Obviously, no matter which generation is in the driver’s seat (or should I say tractor’s seat), Caymus Vineyard knows how to deliver flavor and deliciousness. They appear to be immune to some of winedom’s less than intelligent trends and fads that we see from time to time, and the result is a spectacular 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon 40th Anniversary offering. 2011 Abreu "Las Posadas" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (OWC)
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2011 Abreu "Las Posadas" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend in original wood. About the producer: "Growing up, Napa Valley was David Abreu's playground as well as his classroom. Born into a family of ranchers, he spent the better part of his youth working in Napa's original vineyards. Over time, David's sense of what makes a site stand out—why one vineyard makes great wine and another's is just good—was sharpened beyond the ordinary. Eventually, intuition and experience led him to four exceptional vineyard properties: Madrona Ranch, Cappella, Las Posadas, and Thorevilos. He planned and planted each one. And with an uncompromising—some might say insane—commitment to quality, he and his crew farm them to perfection. Alongside Brad Grimes, a chef turned winemaker, he whittles one hundred barrels down to just 12,000 bottles of single-site Cabernet blends. You could call it passion beyond reason. And you may be right."

Dark red cherry, mocha, spice, new leather, mint and cloves are all laced together in a wine that captures the relaxed, easygoing style of the year. Sumptuous, expressive and wonderfully resonant in the glass, the 2012 has it all. This is a stunning effort from the team at Ovid. A great example of the vintage at its very, very best. This is a remarkable set of wines from Ovid. The 2012s have grown in bottle considerably since I last tasted them about a year ago. Winemaker Austin Peterson describes 2012 as a more relaxed and leisurely growing season than either 2013 and 2014, both of which were early. Ovid is always among the last estates to blend, so I tasted the 2014s in separate lots from barrel, including most of the core lots that are the ba

Silky but youthfully restrained, with classically dry flavors of black fruits, licorice and graphite. Best today on the very long, firmly tannic back end, which promises a slow and graceful evolution in bottle. (ST)" (05/2013)

2005 Sine Qua Non "17th Nail In My Cranium" Sta. Rita Hills Syrah
Bid on this bottle of 2005 Sine Qua Non "17th Nail In My Cranium" Sta. Rita Hills Syrah (100RP, 98WS, 97ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Syrah The 17th Nail In My Cranium, a blend of 96.5% Syrah and 3.5% Viognier which is aged 38 months prior to bottling. (I always wonder what Marcel Guigal would think of a wine like this which seems to tip its hat in the direction of Cote Rotie and then goes into high gear and clearly says, "I’m just something very different, but thanks for even thinking of that appellation while smelling and tasting me.") Black as a moonless night, the 2005 17th Nail reveals a stunning nose of spring flowers intermixed with creme de cassis, blackberries, charcoal, graphite, and hints of lard and barbecue spices. Dense, with an endless (and I mean endless) finish, remarkable purity, and layer upon layer of flavor, but no sense of heaviness or flabbiness, this prodigious Syrah should evolve for 15 or more years. Shows how the most elaborate vineyard and winery practices can contribute to a near-perfect wine, even in a less heralded vintage. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Shafer "Hillside Select" Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon (100WE, 99RP, 96WS, 95VN, 95W&S, 93CG). Wine Enthusiast: "A perfect score has to be considered in the context of its region. Shafer’s 2004 Hillside Select is tremendous as a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon that competes with its peers at the highest levels. It’s always a fabulous wine, but in warm 2004, Shafer’s amphitheater vineyard sheltered the grapes, ripening them to perfection yet protecting the “iron fist in a velvet glove” structure that André Tchelistcheff defined as Stags Leap. This 100% Cabernet is tremendous in cassis, black currant and mocha flavors, and the 100% new French oak provides perfect additions of smoke and caramel. It’s soft and gorgeous enough to drink now, and should age well in a cool cellar for the next 20 years." (03/2009)

The tannins just melt into the wine as you taste it. Aristocratic and regal in style and length. A powdery, fascinating texture. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink now, but better in 2017." 2012 Futo "5500" Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2012 Futo "5500" Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon (99RP, 96VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon 5500 is 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Merlot bottled unfined and unfiltered after 18-20 months in oak. Futo practices long lees contact, five-day prefermentation cold soak and only one racking, which is when the barrels are racked directly into the tank prior to bottling. This is a stunning wine, and it was not easy to back off a perfect score, but maybe that will come with another several years of bottle age. The wine has profound intensity, amazing purity and clarity, an inky bluish/purple color, a stunning nose of spring flowers interwoven with crème de cassis, background charcoal, smoldering embers, and a full-bodied mouthfeel. It has an incredible lightness of being, despite its exceptional intensity and richness. This is an amazing wine and a great example of Stags Leap. It should drink well for 30+ years. 2010 Sine Qua Non "Stockholm Syndrome" Sta. Rita Hills Syrah
Bid on this bottle of 2010 Sine Qua Non "Stockholm Syndrome" Sta. Rita Hills Syrah (100RP, 97VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Syrah Stockholm Syndrome is a monumental effort that will stand toe-to-toe with the greatest Syrahs in the world. A blend of 96% Syrah, 3% Roussanne and 1% Viognier, it was fermented with 16% whole cluster before spending just under 42 months in 100% new French oak. It offers an incredible array of sweet dark fruits, cassis, white chocolate, licorice and hints of bacon fat that meld perfectly with its full-bodied, seamless, layered and impeccably put-together palate. Given the wealth of fruit here, it’s amazing how this stays light, graceful and elegant, without ever seeming over the top in any way. While there’s no shortage of tannin here, they’re sweet and integrated, so feel free to enjoy this rock-star effort anytime over the coming two decades or more. (JD)" (08/2014)

2012 The Vineyardist Diamond Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon (OWC)
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2012 The Vineyardist Diamond Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon (OWC - 96RP, 96VN, 93WS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The compelling 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is produced from Clones 7, 33 and 337. It’s 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in a combination of 50% new Darnajou and the rest Taransaud. The wine hit 15.1% natural alcohol, and 285 cases were produced. This is a great mountain-style Cabernet Sauvignon with an inky purple color, a gorgeous nose of scorched earth, wet gravel, charcoal, blackberry and crème de cassis. Very full-bodied and exceptionally pure and deep, this is multidimensional with skyscraper texture in a fabulous Cabernet Sauvignon that is still young with tremendous upside. It can be approached now because it’s very much in keeping with the style of 2012, but five years of bottle age will do wonders, and I expect the wine will still be going strong in 25 or 30 years. Of the 2012 Hundred Acre "Ark Vineyard" Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "A perfect wine is the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Arc Vineyard from Woodbridge’s property on Howell Mountain. This is an amazingly deep, rich, blueberry, blackberry and mulberry scented and flavored wine with skyscraper-like texture, remarkable intensity, again great, great purity, and the new oak completely concealed by the lavish and extravagant amounts of fruit. Knockout nose offers pure botrytis aromas of orange oil, apricot, clove, marzipan, chocolate and mocha. Extraordinarily thick and honeyed but with bracing acids leavening the flavors of marzipan, coconut, brown sugar and orange rind. Higher-toned than the gewurztraminer, with a spirity suggestion of Gran Marnier. Krankl was about to bottle this. I have rarely tasted such thoroughly botrytized chardonnay." (07/2005)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2003 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (94RP, 92ST, 92W&S). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the smallest crops to be included in the Ridge Monte Bello, only 32% of the production made it into the 2003, which is largely Cabernet Sauvignon (85%) and the rest Merlot and Petit Verdot. Out of barrel as well as post-bottling I liked this wine a lot, and it has changed very little from when I last tasted it in February, 2010. It boasts an inky/blue/purple color along with sweet black currant, blueberry, graphite, licorice and toasty vanillin aromas. This wine shows loads of roasted espresso notes mixed with white chocolate, plum, black cherry and currant. The wine is ripe, opulent, full-bodied and a very sexy, lush example of 2013 to drink over the next 15 or more years. This famous, historic estate, highly renowned in the late 1800s, sits to the north of St. Helena and to the south of Calistoga. It is a valley-floor vineyard of 110 acres that has been divided into a hierarchy of quality. The lineup of wines for now remains the same. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2013 Quilceda Creek Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon ((96-98RP)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the most impressive barrels samples I was able to taste during my trip through the region, the Galitzin's 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) has a classic, structured feel, as well as sensational purity of fruit. Giving up lots of cassis, currants, spicy oak and bouquet garni, with subtle violet qualities with air, it hits the palate with serious richness, a full, layered mid-palate and masses of sweet tannin. Like most of Paul's wines, I think they have the fruit and texture to offer plenty of pleasure in their youth, yet they don't hit their stride until at least 5-7 years after the vintage.
