2011 Williams Selyem "Foss Vineyard" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2011 Williams Selyem "Foss Vineyard" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir (92ST). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Vivid ruby-red. Sexy, smoke- and spice-accented aromas and flavors of black raspberry and cherry cola show impressive clarity. Vibrant and precise, with excellent back-end lift and cut. Repeats the berry and cola notes on a long, seamless penetrating finish. (ST)" (05/2013)

2006 Rhys "Swan Terrace - Alpine Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2006 Rhys "Swan Terrace - Alpine Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir (93BH, 92ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: " *Outstanding* A notably ripe nose that has a menthol and cranberry liqueur character plus a subtle touch of crushed herb that can also be found on the rich, full, naturally sweet and admirably detailed middle weight flavors underpinned by a fire core of ripe tannins and fine length. At present this is youthfully austere and will require 4 to 6 years to really display fully of what it's ultimately capable. Impressive. The estate wines of Rhys Vineyards made from biodynamically farmed fruit and the Alesia wines (made from carefully selected purchased fruit - see above) are made by Alpine Road Winery, which is the pet project of owner Kevin Harvey and winemaker Jason Jardine. I toured the vineyards located in the Santa Cruz Mountains and they are indeed spectacular and if you have the chance to visit, I highly recommend it..." (10/2008)

2009 Calera "Ryan" Mt. Harlan Pinot Noir
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Calera "Ryan" Mt. Harlan Pinot Noir (94W&S, 93RP, 92BH, 92VN, 90WE). Wine & Spirits: "The vines in the upper block of Ryan, rising to 2,500 feet, are just settling in. Jim Ryan, Calera’s vineyard manager, planted it in 1998 at a higher density than Calera’s other sites, most of which date to 1975. At first, this wine appears to be a big, extracted fruit bomb until, hours later, the tannins begin to breathe and the texture broadens, the fruit filling in the tannins on the sides of the mouth. A day later, the tannins and fruit have merged back into the middle of the wine, focused on dark, mineral intensity, on scents of smoke and earth, carrying plenty of extract within a Pinot Noir frame. While this may seem like a stylistic departure for Calera, it could also be read as a youthful interpretation of the Mount Harlan site. It’s formidable and delicious in any case, especially if decanted for roast duck. " (06/2012)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine de la Pousse d'Or Pommard 1er Cru "Jarollieres" ((91-93BH), 92ST, 91RP). Allen Meadows - Burghound: " *Sweet spot Outstanding* By contrast, here the intense, elegant, airy and almost startlingly fresh red berry fruit nose is expressive to the point of exuberance as the nose explodes from the glass with a flourish to reveal delicious, rich and full yet beautifully delineated and ultra pure flavors that are focused, linear and penetrating on the distinctly mineral-infused finish. This is a really lovely and sophisticated Pommard that bears more than a passing resemblance to its ‘across the border’ Volnay neighbor Frémiets." (04/2007)

2010 Domaine Dominique Mugneret Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Boudots"
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2010 Domaine Dominique Mugneret Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Boudots". Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Aux Boudots has a thickly layered black fruit on the nose: mulberry and raspberry, perhaps just a touch of white flowers. The palate is sweet and very tannic on the entry with plenty of depth, but it lacks the finesse of the 2012 from barrel. However, it has the substance to suggest it will age well over the next decade. Drink now-2023. (NM)" (02/2014)

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An exceptionally pretty nose that is quite elegant with its mélange of red pinot, blue berry and wet stone aromas that merge seamlessly into rich and relatively full-bodied flavors that possess good volume and a seductively textured mid-palate thanks to the abundance of dry extract that buffers the firmly tannic spine on the mildly austere finish. This is a classic Sentiers in the mode of a mini Bonnes Mares. " (01/2011)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2010 Frederic Magnien Vosne Romanee 1er Cru "Aux Champs Perdrix" ((89-92ST)). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(from a high-altitude vineyard located above La Tache and La Grande Rue): Dark red with a ruby tinge. High-pitched aromas of black raspberry, cherry, violet and rose. At once creamy and sappy, with noteworthy savory energy and an utterly seamless texture. The long, slowly building finish features ripe tannins and lingering sweetness. I would not be surprised if this wine ultimately merited a score at the top end of my projected range. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2013 Paul Lato "Atticus - John Sebastiano Vineyard" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir (96RP, 91VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Pinot Noir Atticus John Sebastiano Vineyard is stunning. Loaded with fruit and a big, voluptuous, textured effort, it has tons of black raspberry, black cherry, violets, leather and baking spices aromas and flavors. These come together beautifully on the palate and it has sensational depth and richness through the mid-palate while always staying lively, elegant and seamless. It's fruit loaded and exuberant for sure, but also as classy and silky as they come. It's already hard to resist, but I suspect it will evolve easily for a decade. (JD)" (08/2015)

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is aromatically brooding and reserved with restrained and distinctly cool aromas of both red and dark currants that are liberally laced with earth, underbrush and subtle spice nuances. There is good concentration, at least in the context of the Raphet style, to the supple, round and ripe medium weight flavors that possess good concentration and fine length on the youthfully austere finish that is supported by fine-grained tannins." This is an especially forward, juicy Pinot that will drink well upon release. Most importantly, the Sonoma Coast is absolutely delicious. 2003 Hospices de Beaune (Jadot) Corton Grand Cru "Cuvée Docteur Peste"
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2003 Hospices de Beaune (Jadot) Corton Grand Cru "Cuvée Docteur Peste". The hospices is a beautiful medieval structure in the center of Beaune. It is also a hospital, which was founded in the 15th century. Over the years, devout Burgundians have willed bits of their vineyards to the hospices' charitable organization. The hospices then raise money by selling the wines made from its vineyards at auction and generally shares the profits with other charities. The hospices blends wines from several vineyards in the same village and gives the resulting cuvee the name of a significant benefactor, like the oddly named Docteur Peste, a historical figure and physician at the hospices. These wines are collectible, to be sure, and are made by top domaines--like this from the venerable house of Louis Jadot.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The delicious Chambolle Musigny Les Hauts Doigts offers fat, chewy, black cherries, dark berries, red apple and spice flavors to complement its good length and structure. Enjoyable now, it will age well for 8 years. This note is the result of tastings I did in Burgundy between January 7 and January 29. I was impressed with Robert Groffier's 1995s. They displayed good ripeness, concentration and structure. It is the first vintage where his wines will not be subjected to either a fining or filtration. Bid on this bottle of 2012 North Wines (Alban) Edna Valley Pinot Noir (94VN, 93RP). Vinous: "Black cherry, plum, cloves, smoke, new leather and licorice meld together in the 2012 Pinot Noir. Ample, rich and dramatic in the glass, the 2012 is all about power and intensity. This explosive Pinot from volcanic soils is explosive from start to finish. The 2012 was aged in 60% new oak, all of which it handled with grace. 94+ points. ohn and Lorraine Alban have done a magnificent job with their 2012s. I tasted both wines just after they had been bottled, but that did not seem to be too much of an issue. The 2012 Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are both terrific, but perhaps more importantly, they represent a significant step up from the 2011s, which suggests North has a bright future. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From under the Clos de Tart and the tiny Morey sliver of Bonnes Mares, a 2005 Morey-St.-Denis Les Ruchots (aged in 40% new wood and recently assembled) had already been racked twice when I tasted, due to previous reduction. A good shaking was once again in order, at which point candied maraschino cherry and cinnamon candy aromas and flavors emerge. Intensely sweet red and black cherry accompanied by brown spices and hints of wood on a finely-tannic palate would not seem at all out of place in the New World. Drop-dead gorgeous aromas of raspberry, potpourri, Asian spices and minerals, with a strong undercurrent of white pepper and mocha; this smells like a Dujac Echezeaux, from a serious vintage. Sweet red and dark berry flavors display liqueur-like depth, tangy minerality giving the wine verve. The mineral note dominates the long, spicy finish, which echoes the red fruit and floral notes. Highly complex, very ripe aromas of musky redcurrant, minerals, tobacco, lavender, spices and dried flowers. Sweet and concentrated, with superb volume and strong soil tones to the flavors of red berries, brown spices and dried flowers. Finishes very long, with sophisticated tannins. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Domaine Anne Gros Chambolle-Musigny "Combe d'Orveau" (93WE). Wine Enthusiast: "The vineyard of La Combe d'Orveau is situated in the southern end of Chambolle-Musigny, within sight of Clos de Vougeot. This 2004 is quintessential Chambolle—rich, opulent, yet full of sensuous elegance. The wine is vibrantly red, layered with acidity, a delicious mouthful of bright fruit that will certainly age into something splendid. (RV)" (03/2007)

2006 Broadley "Marcile Lorraine" Willamette Valley Pinot Noir
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2006 Broadley "Marcile Lorraine" Willamette Valley Pinot Noir (90BH, 90ST). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Light, hazy red. Intensely spicy bouquet offers energetic redcurrant, wild strawberry and fresh flowers. Light-bodied red berry flavors are sweetened by vanilla and cola nuances, picking up succulent herbs with air. Tart cherry skin and bitter chocolate linger on the long, tangy finish. I'd bet that this energetic and nicely balanced wine will repay five or so years of cellaring. (JR)" (05/2008)

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2006 Domaine Gerard Raphet Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Combottes" Cuvée Unique ((88-91BH)). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A slightly riper nose of extract of red Pinot fruit that has a slight liqueur quality to it dissolves into sweet, round and very supple middle weight flavors that again deliver good focus and vibrancy on the sappy and more powerful finish. This is a lighter weight example of this vineyard but the balance is impeccable as is the transparency. " (01/2008)

2005 Domaine Pierre Guillemot Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru "Narbantons"
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Pierre Guillemot Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru "Narbantons" (91RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A 2005 Savigny-les-Beaune Les Narbantons -- consistent with the nature of this site -- is both the most structured but also the most filled-out of Guillemot offerings, and an outstanding value, not least in view of its likelihood to reward 7-12 years in the cellar and hold for much longer. An intense aroma of wood smoke-tinged cassis and blackberry leads to a palate of clarity, refreshment, marrowy, meaty richness, and distinctive iodine-like minerality. Rich in flavor yet sleek in structure, ripe yet bright, this will display even more depth for those who are patient. (DS)" (04/2007)

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2002 Domaine Maume Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Lavaux St-Jacques" (91BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is quite reserved with only grudging hints of red berries, damp earth and subtle spice that introduce pure, racy and detailed middle weight flavors that display the classic mineral-inflected character of a fine Lavaut plus a superbly elegant and fine finish. This is really beautiful juice of grand cru caliber elegance and finesse. In short, I very much like the purity and style this offers. " (01/2005)

2006 Daniel Bocquenet Vosne-Romanee "La Croix Blanche"
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2006 Daniel Bocquenet Vosne-Romanee "La Croix Blanche". David Schildknecht writes: "Bocquenet has a habit of excelling in difficult vintages while retaining a regimen of relatively aggressive extraction and 100% new wood. His approach did not let him or his customers down in 2006, and negociant demand was still strong when the wines were in barrel, so Bocquenet was able to readily sell off any lots or barrels he chose to, in order to enhance the quality of what he eventually bottled himself."

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2008 Domaine Lucien Boillot & Fils Volnay 1er Cru "Les Caillerets" ((90-91RP)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Boillot 2008 Volnay Les Caillerets mingles surprising notes of Normandy cider along with mint, cassis and blueberry, all of which are wedded to a quite overtly dense, sappy, finely-tannic palate. It finishes with gum-sticking tenacity, peppery pungency, and slightly austere chalkiness, yet also persistently cool herbal and black and blue fruit notes. There are unfortunately only 50 cases worth of this Volnay from very old vines and likely to merit following for at least 6-8 years. (DS)" (06/2010)

2009 Domaine Gerard Raphet Gevrey-Chambertin "Champs Chenys" Cuvée Unique Vieilles Vignes
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2009 Domaine Gerard Raphet Gevrey-Chambertin "Champs Chenys" Cuvée Unique Vieilles Vignes. "The wines of Gérard Raphet are a Burgundy lover’s Burgundy. While the wine’s color in the glass is a delicate ruby, aromas and flavors surprise with their forceful intensity. This contrast often catches the uninitiated off guard, yet it is part of the attraction and seduction of these limited and highly sought-after wines. Indeed of all our Burgundy partners, Raphet inspires the most emotion when trying to describe what exactly makes these wines so captivating. Raphet Burgundy surprises and delights; it opens the possibilities of what great, old-vine Burgundy can do, and just how intimate and special that experience can be. Gérard took over the domaine in 2005 with his wife Sylviane, and today, it’s their daughter Virginie who helps out in the cellar and fields. Gérard is modest, almost shy, preferring the majesty of his old-vine Pinot Noir to 'do the talking.' And ta

2009 Sea Smoke "Ten" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Sea Smoke "Ten" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir (92ST). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Opaque ruby. Pungent, expressive bouquet offers dark berry compote, cola, vanilla bean and incense qualities, along with slow-building spiciness and notes of clove and mocha. Lush, palate-coating blackberry and mulberry flavors are lifted by gentle acidity and complicated by notes of spicecake and candied violet. Tannins build with air and carry through a very long, sweet, oak-spicy finish. This is a baby." (11/2011)

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1997 Daniel Bocquenet Echezeaux Grand Cru Reserve ((90-93RP), (89-91ST)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Bocquenet's dark ruby colored 1997 Echezeaux is more reminiscent of a Chateauneuf du Pape from Henri Bonneau than a wine from the Cote d'Or. Harvested at a whopping 13.7 natural potential alcohol, it exhibits a blackberry, pepper, garrigue, and Asian spice-laden nose. This super-ripe, expansive, broad, deep, and powerful wine has the sur-maturite tar, licorice, cassis, and warmth one encounters in the southern Rhone, and ever so rarely in the northern climates of Burgundy. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2007 Domaine Marius Delarche Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru "Ile des Vergelesses". Philippe and Etienne Delarche run a family estate of 9 hectares in the villages of Pernand-Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton. The harvest is hand-picked and the wines made in the traditional manner. The grapes are pressed and the must left to settle. Fermentation takes place in small vats at a temperature not exceeding 20°C for the Pernands while the Corton Charlemagnes go straight into barrels. All the wines spend a minimum of 12 months in barrels. They have subtle aromas and are well-balanced with spicy, mineral flavors. Young Etienne Delarche has been making ever more elegant wines since he took over the reins here.

As it often is, this is the best in show chez Raphet in 2008. " (01/2010)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1996 Domaine des Tilleuls (Philippe Livera) Gevrey-Chambertin "Champs Perriers" Reserve Vieilles Vignes. From the importer: "The key to discovering the extraordinary diversity of Gevrey-Chambertin is found in the cellars of Domaine des Tilleuls. These are wines that are both striking in their fidelity to the Livera family’s exemplary terroir and memorable for their uncanny ability to translate Gevrey’s earthy seduction to the glass. Winemaker Damien Livera since he took over the estate in the late 2000s has effected a sea change in how the family’s vines are cared for, pushing for lower yields and healthier, more balanced fruit—and the quality of his wines has certainly followed suit. Vineyards are cared for according to 'lutte raisonée' principles, which includes plowing the soils (no herbicides) and using indigenous yeasts in the cellar. A majority of the estate’s older Pinot Noir vines were planted in the 1950s and 1960s. ‘En Champs’ sits at the border wi

Medium-bodied and silky-textured in the attack as well as mid-palate, it displays admirable depth to its red cherry-filled core. Its lengthy finish reveals some alcoholic warmth and highly present tannin. (PR)" (08/2005)

2007 Daniel Bocquenet Nuits-Saint-Georges "Aux Saint Julien"
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2007 Daniel Bocquenet Nuits-Saint-Georges "Aux Saint Julien". Allen Meadows shares his thoughts on the 2007 vintage: "The enormously talented Daniel Bocquenet told me that 2007 was a 'pleasant surprise as I was sure that we were going to wind up with really poor raw materials. It seemed as though maturities were making no progress at all during the summer and as soon as the lousy weather turned in August, maturities exploded. We began picking on September 1st and even though the fruit wasn't as ripe as it was in 2006, we still obtained sugars that ranged between 12 and 12.5% so I was actually quite happy. The phenolics were reasonably ripe as well and I saw no reason to baby the vinification so I did as I do normally. Overall, 2007 produced classic burgundies that should drink well both early and late.'"
