2000 & 2003 Vintage Port Tasting Lot
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2000 & 2003 Vintage Port Tasting Lot, including 1-bottle of 2000 Warre's Vintage Port (91RP, 91ST, 91WS) and 2-bottles of 2003 Fonseca Vintage Port (97ST, 97WE, 96WS, 92RP). Of the 2003 Fonseca Vintage Port,Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar writes: "Saturated deep ruby. Brooding, reticent nose of cassis and kirsch; there's nothing cooked about this one! Then massive, sweet and superrich in the mouth; explodes with exotic ripeness. Intriguing note of graphite. This coats every nook and cranny of the palate and clings and builds on the back end in a way that no other wine of this vintage can match. Huge, sexy and wonderfully lush Fonseca, built for the long haul. As impressive as the best 2000s, and, along with the Quinta do Noval Nacional, is an early candidate for port of the 2003 vintage. The final blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc and the rest Petit Verdot and Merlot reveals an inky/purple color as well as a gorgeous nose of graphite, creme de cassis, cedarwood, Christmas fruitcake, bay leaf and a damp forest floor-like character. 2003 Sine Qua Non "The Inaugural - Eleven Confessions" Syrah
Bid on this bottle of 2003 Sine Qua Non "The Inaugural - Eleven Confessions" Syrah (100RP, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The mind-boggling 2003 The Inaugural Syrah is an emotional experience to taste as well as drink. Aged 38 ½ months in French oak, it was fashioned entirely from the Eleven Confessions Vineyard, which is planted with Syrah clones #470, 174, and the Estrella River and Alban field selections. This stunning Syrah boasts a magnificent bouquet of spring flowers, blueberries, blackberries, charcoal, licorice, and roasted meats. It hits the palate with remarkable intensity, purity, and full-bodied power, but it somehow manages to dance across the taste buds with the gracefulness of a ballerina. Awesomely long, I still tasted this wine 60 seconds after I had spit it out -- no easy task, even for a professional."

2003 Marcassin "Marcassin Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2003 Marcassin "Marcassin Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (99RP, 97ST, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I was somewhat surprised to see that the 2003 Estate Pinot Noir merited the same score that it has received every time I have tasted it. Although I have never been able to award it a perfect score, it is as close to perfect as one will find. A terrific success in a vintage that rarely produced Pinot Noir of this quality except at selected micro-climates on the Sonoma coast. A majestic bouquet of black currants, smoky barbecue meat, blueberries and black raspberries soars from the glass of this dark plum/purple-colored wine. Full-bodied and stunningly rich with 14.5-14.7% natural alcohol, it possesses a layer of concentration as well as a multileveled complexity that builds incrementally across the palate." (06/2014)

2003 Torbreck "Les Amis" Grenache Barossa Valley South Australia
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2003 Torbreck "Les Amis" Grenache Barossa Valley South Australia (98RP, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Les Amis is a 300-case cuvee of 100% Grenache from a vineyard planted in 1901. I have had a lot of fun serving the 2002 blind to guests, and for my taste, this cuvee is the reference point for old vine Grenache produced in Australia. It is extraordinarily elegant for a wine of such power, richness, and intensity. Amazingly delineated, with a dense ruby/purple color as well as a gorgeously sweet nose of smoke, spice box, black cherry liqueur, creme de cassis, licorice, and lavender, it offers impressive balance, purity, opulence, and persistence. This phenomenal wine is both powerful and refreshingly elegant. A magnificent achievement for Torbreck, it should drink well for 15+ years. (RP)" (10/2005)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The irrepressible, schizophrenic Jack Russell terrier has his own cuvee, the 2003 Chien Lunatique, a 290-case blend of 91% Syrah and 9% Cabernet Sauvignon, with most of the Syrah coming from Napa's Page-Nord Vineyard. Of the 2003 Arietta "Variation One" Napa Valley Red Blend,Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar writes: "Medium ruby. The nose is at once cool and exotic, with expressive, explosive aromas of black cherry, raspberry, smoked meat, iris and brown spices. Wonderfully sweet and dense in the mouth, saturating every square millimeter of the palate. A magical combination of syrah energy and merlot breadth. 2003 Viña Cobos "Marchiori Vineyard" Malbec Mendoza (OWC)
Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 2003 Viña Cobos "Marchiori Vineyard" Malbec Mendoza (OWC - 97RP, 95WS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "According to Hobbs, 2003 was a better growing season than 2002. It was a low yielding vintage due to spring winds. The 2003 Cobos Malbec Marchiori Vineyard offers greater aromatic complexity than its two older siblings. The fragrant bouquet reveals pain grille, pencil lead, spice box, floral notes, blueberry, and black cherry. This leads to a full-bodied, dense, rich wine with a velvety texture that manages to come off as elegant despite its immense size. Ripe, savory black fruits, spice notes, coffee, and chocolate emerge on the palate concealing enough structure for another 6-8 years of evolution. Although it can be enjoyed now, for optimum pleasure drink it between 2015 and 2035. (JM)" (12/2008)

Of the 2004 Joseph Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend,Wine Enthusiast writes: "Tasted in October, 2007, the wine was mute, offering little aromatically except for teasing notes of blackberries and oak. That shyness extended to the taste, where strong, hard tannins provide an almost impenetrable coat of armor to what’s inside. But right down the middle of the palate is a deep, intensely powerful stream of perfectly ripened cassis that’s all the proof you need of ageability. This is a magnificently structured young wine, reminiscent of a fine young Pauillac. Best afte

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "At the risk of sounding like a broken record, the 2003 Camartina is a drop-dead gorgeous effort. Fat, rich and opulent, it will reward consumers with its generous super-ripe fruit, great length and beautiful overall balance. While it doesn’t look to be one of the more long-lived Camartinas, with some air it is drinking beautifully today. It is a very refined effort in this vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2018. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2003 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (94RP, 92ST, 92W&S). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the smallest crops to be included in the Ridge Monte Bello, only 32% of the production made it into the 2003, which is largely Cabernet Sauvignon (85%) and the rest Merlot and Petit Verdot. Out of barrel as well as post-bottling I liked this wine a lot, and it has changed very little from when I last tasted it in February, 2010. It boasts an inky/blue/purple color along with sweet black currant, blueberry, graphite, licorice and toasty vanillin aromas. The tannins are still noticeable in this full-bodied 2003, but seem reasonably well-integrated. (RP)" (06/2013)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2003 Turley "Hayne" Napa Valley Zinfandel ((94-96RP), 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The most revered Zinfandel in the Turley portfolio, the 2003 Zinfandel Hayne Vineyard (500 cases; 16.5% alcohol) is again a prodigious Zinfandel and represents the essence of this varietal. Outrageously rich, full-bodied, dense, and multilayered, with a dark ruby/purple color (the most saturated color of all the Zinfandels), it boasts aromas and flavors of raspberries, black cherries, cassis, licorice, pepper, and loamy soil notes. The finish lasts for 45+ seconds. It is a sensational Zinfandel, and based on all the vintages produced by Turley to date, capable of lasting a decade or more. (RP)" (02/2005)

Wine Enthusiast: " *Editors' Choice* One of the big names of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and this wine justifies the fame of the Perrin family’s property. It is a rich style, but, more importantly, it is beautifully made, structured, dense, with red jelly fruits, a touch of vanilla and a fat, full-bodied, but firm aftertaste. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: " Starting with the 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reserve, this wine showed spectacularly on release, closed down for a few years, and has now emerged, at close to full maturity, and is straight-up fabulous. Out of the entire tasting, it remained my favorite. Giving up gorgeous blackberry, currants, garrigue, pepper and beef blood, it hits the palate with a massive, full-bodied texture that carries layers of sweet fruit, awesome concentration and blockbuster length. Showing no signs of weakening, it is an amazing wine from this fabulous terroir. It boasts a deep blue/purple color as well as a stunning perfume of blueberries, black currants, blackberries, licorice and camphor. Enormously oaky now, with an explosion of char and vanilla, it shows an underworld of black currants, and is huge in sweet, youthful tannins. Yet those tannins are so polished, so refined.
