2012 Horsepower "The Tribe Vineyard" Walla Walla Valley Syrah
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2012 Horsepower "The Tribe Vineyard" Walla Walla Valley Syrah ((95-98RP)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Almost as good, the 2012 Syrah The Tribe Vineyard offers classic peppery spices, flowers, licorice, cured meats, toast and assorted red and black fruit qualities to go with a full-bodied, exceedingly structured feel on the palate. Showing additional fruit and flesh over the 2011, this beautiful Syrah will require short-term cellaring and have upwards of two decades of ultimate longevity. (JD)" (06/2014)

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1998 Torbreck "Run Rig'" Shiraz Barossa Valley South Australia (99RP, 95JH, 95ST, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1998 Run Rig is a phenomenal wine. An inky/blue/purple color is followed by an incredibly intoxicating, endearing bouquet of peaches, honeysuckle, blackberries, and spring flowers, full-bodied, concentrated flavors that show slightly more depth and length than the 1997, and more velvety tannins than the 1996. This prodigious offering should continue to evolve for another decade or more. (RP)" (06/2009)

2008 Colgin "IX Estate" Napa Valley Syrah (OWC)
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2008 Colgin "IX Estate" Napa Valley Syrah (OWC - 95ST, 94RP, 94WS) in original wood. Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright full ruby. Pungent aromas of candied blueberry, minerals, lavender, crushed stone, roasted meat, mocha and black olive; youthful but already expressive. Pliant, rich and deep, with terrific verve and incipient complexity to the intense flavors of black cherry, salty minerality, game and white pepper. Really exhilarating high-toned floral/wild herb character and inner-mouth tension. Still an infant, and extremely long on the aftertaste. This reminded me of a top Syrah bottling from Cayuse. 95+" (03/2013)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2010 Cayuse "En Cerise Vineyard" Walla Walla Valley Syrah (98WE, 96WS, 95RP, 94ST). Wine Enthusiast: "**Editors' Choice** The purity and potent, almost mystical aromas of the En Cerise Syrah conjure up flying carpet visions of purple and black fruits. The enticing aromatics have a citrusy lift, with orange peel and incense, like drinking a Persian rug. Amazingly complex, seamless, dense, and elegant, it’s a wine that never stops, as new flavors keep emerging the longer it breathes. " (12/2013)

2005 Alban "Seymour's Vineyard" Edna Valley Syrah
Bid on this bottle of 2005 Alban "Seymour's Vineyard" Edna Valley Syrah (96RP, (93-96ST), 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From a cooler year, the 2005 Syrah Seymour’s Vineyard exhibits a more European personality than the classically Californian 2004. The 2005 reminds me of a broodingly backward, dark purple-colored Hermitage from the northern Rhone. Aromas of scorched earth, creme de cassis, truffles, and graphite emerge from this cuvee. With remarkable density, structure, precision, and freshness as well as sensational equilibrium (despite its weight and intensity), it should be at its finest between 2012-2025+. The wines of John and Lorraine Alban are about as spectacular as one can find anywhere in the world. Alban is committed to aging his big Syrahs longer in barrel, believing it will concentrate the wines and add additional complexity. (RP)" (06/2008)

2005 Sine Qua Non "17th Nail In My Cranium" Sta. Rita Hills Syrah
Bid on this bottle of 2005 Sine Qua Non "17th Nail In My Cranium" Sta. Rita Hills Syrah (100RP, 98WS, 97ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Syrah The 17th Nail In My Cranium, a blend of 96.5% Syrah and 3.5% Viognier which is aged 38 months prior to bottling. (I always wonder what Marcel Guigal would think of a wine like this which seems to tip its hat in the direction of Cote Rotie and then goes into high gear and clearly says, "I’m just something very different, but thanks for even thinking of that appellation while smelling and tasting me.") Black as a moonless night, the 2005 17th Nail reveals a stunning nose of spring flowers intermixed with creme de cassis, blackberries, charcoal, graphite, and hints of lard and barbecue spices. Dense, with an endless (and I mean endless) finish, remarkable purity, and layer upon layer of flavor, but no sense of heaviness or flabbiness, this prodigious Syrah should evolve for 15 or more years. 2008 Sine Qua Non "B 20" Syrah
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2008 Sine Qua Non "B 20" Syrah (95RP, 94JS, 94ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Syrah B-20 is a cool, inward wine graced with layers of beautifully delineated, chiseled fruit. This is a distinctly mineral, precise style relative to the more outgoing 2009, but both are striking. Floral notes add lift as the finish turns explosive with a burst of dark fruit, tar, licorice and crushed rocks. This is one of the more understated wines readers are likely to come across from Sine Qua Non. It is gorgeous when given the time to open up. The B-20 is predominantly Syrah, with 6% Grenache and 2% Viognier. About half of the Grenache was fermented with whole clusters and the wine was aged in French oak (60% new) for 26 months. Of the 2007 Cayuse "En Cerise" Walla Walla Valley Syrah,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 2007 Syrah En Cerise Vineyard (100%) is a glass-coating opaque purple color. On the nose espresso, smoked meat, olives, and garrigue-like aromas offer much to contemplate. Intense, balanced, and subtly elegant, it boasts a finish that just won’t quit. It delivers impressive immediate gratification, but those who can wait for 5-7 years will be well rewarded." (08/2010)

Of the 2002 Shafer "Relentless" Napa Valley Syrah,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The brainchild of winemaker/viticulturist Elias Fernandez, the Relentless (a blend of 80% Syrah and 20% Petite Sirah aged 32 months in 100% new French oak) has been a fabulous success since its debut vintage. There are 2,500 cases of this remarkable cuvee. The inky/purple-hued 2002 Relentless possesses a fabulously exuberant, extroverted nose of black fruits, creosote, flowers, and pepper along with huge, sweet blueberry, chocolaty, espresso notes. Bid on this bottle of 2006 Sine Qua Non "A Shot in the Dark" Sta. Rita Hills Syrah (100RP, 98WS, 96ST, 95JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A Shot in the Dark is composed of 96.5% Syrah and 3.5% Viognier from the 11 Confessions Vineyard in the cool Santa Rita Hills. Performing better from bottle than it did from barrel, this prodigious red exhibits incredibly velvety tannins, a seamless style, and no noticeable oak (which is remarkable given the fact it spent 32 months in barrel). Dense purple to the rim with an extraordinary perfume of blueberry pie, blackberries, soy, Asian spices, and hints of forest floor and charcoal, this is a complex, rich, seamless, well-balanced tour de force in winemaking. A full-bodied, exuberant, unabashedly California Syrah, it will offer stunning drinking over the next 10-15+ years. (RP)" (08/2010)

2007 Sine Qua Non "Labels" California Syrah
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2007 Sine Qua Non "Labels" California Syrah (98RP, 94ST, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The recently released 2007 Syrah Labels (89% Syrah, 7% Grenache, and 4% Viognier) comes from the 11 Confessions Estate Vineyard (57%), a small amount from the home estate vineyard in Oak View called Cumulus, and the rest from purchased fruit grown in the White Hawk Vineyard in Los Alamos and the Bien Nacido Vineyard in Santa Maria. A sensational effort, it is performing even better out of bottle than it did from barrel. An opaque purple color is accompanied by beautiful notes of charcoal, acacia flowers, blueberries, blackberries, graphite, and subtle smoke. With great fruit, tremendous texture, and full-bodied power, it is locked and loaded. This cuvee should provide great drinking in addition to some provocative discussions over the next 10-15 years. 98+ (RP)" (08/2010)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2001 Torbreck "Run Rig" Shiraz Barossa Valley South Australia (99RP, 98WS, 94JH, 93ST, 92W&S, 92WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The youngest Run Rig, the 2001, should equal the 1998 as it is almost a clone aromatically, texturally, and flavor-wise, just much younger. This opaque purple-colored beauty should flirt with perfection over the next 10-15 years. Torbreck’s flagship wine, the Run Rig, is made from 40- to 120-year-old Shiraz vines with some co-fermented Viognier (usually around 3%), tips the scales between 14-15% alcohol, and is aged 30 months in French oak. In contrast to the way they taste upon release, neither the 1998 or 1997 Run Rig revealed any oak." (06/2009)

2003 Saxum "Broken Stones" Paso Robles Syrah
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2003 Saxum "Broken Stones" Paso Robles Syrah (95RP, 93ST, 91WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Broken Stones, a 350-case blend of 80% Syrah, 12% Grenache, and 8% Mourvedre, offers a fabulously sweet nose of black raspberries, blackberries, licorice, pepper, and subtle herbs, followed by pure, full-bodied flavors that coat the palate, but are neither heavy nor cloying. The oak component is virtually undetectable as it is concealed by the wine’s wealth of fruit and extraordinary concentration. It should drink well for 10-12 years. The 2003s were bottled about seven weeks before my visit, but I could hardly complain about the fact they weren’t “showing.” I highly recommend that wine enthusiasts who love Rhone Ranger wines pay a visit to the James Berry Vineyard, one of the true grand cru sites in the region. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Cayuse "En Cerise" Walla Walla Valley Syrah (96RP, 95WS, 94ST, 94WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Fermented in concrete, then aged in demi-muids, only around 20% of which were new, Baron’s 2009 Syrah En Cerise Vineyard incorporates a mouthwateringly savory alliance of smoke meat and soy sauce to its luxuriantly rich, silken-textured matrix of confitured cassis and cherry, further laced with salted caramel, while striking perfume of mint, gentian, cardamom, and rose wood hovers above the glass and inner-mouth. The finish here lingers with an uncanny combination of seductive caress, vibrancy, richness, and buoyancy, its many flavor strands -- floral, fruited, animal, spice and mineral -- dynamically intertwining. I would surely give at least some bottles of it 12-15 years’ opportunity to show their true potential. Cautious as I attempt to be in drawing such parallels, if Baron’s latest Cailloux bottling resembles Verset Cornas, then this En Cerise put

2012 Sine Qua Non "Stock" Central Coast Syrah
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2012 Sine Qua Non "Stock" Central Coast Syrah ((97-99RP), 96AG). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Syrah releases started with the 2012 Syrah Stock. Coming mostly from the Eleven Confessions vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills, it also has portions from Cumulus, The Third Twin and White Hawk. Made from 84% Syrah, 7% Grenache, 6% Petite Sirah, 2% Viognier and the rest Mourvedre, it spent 20 months (it’s not yet bottled) in 52% new French oak. Showing the purity and suppleness of the vintage, yet with no lack of concentration, depth or richness, it gives up fabulous cassis, black raspberry, smoked meats and violet-like aromas and flavors that continue to change in the glass. In short, it’s a rock-star Syrah that could come from nowhere else. It should be approachable on release and evolve gracefully for two decades or more. (JD)" (08/2014)

The wine is at once slightly viscous, fairly mouthfilling and very energetic, and, while never impressing as a powerhouse, its potent but polished flavors last and last. Massively endowed, with frightfully high levels of glycerin, extract, and tannin, this is an old-style, super concentrated, beautifully pure, well-delineated Hermitage. Wow! Dark fruit, spices, licorice and violets sit on a core of firm tannin as this powerful wine opens up in the glass. Today, The Thrill Of comes across as very, very young. Of the 2011 Sine Qua Non "Patine - Eleven Confessions Vineyard" Santa Rita Hills Syrah,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "A wine that needs to be forgotten in the cellar for 5-6 years, the 2011 Syrah Patine checks in as a blend of roughly 97% Syrah and the balance Roussanne and Viognier. It too comes all from the estate's Eleven Confessions Vineyard and saw 39 months in 63% new French oak. Backward, tight, concentrated and structured, with full-bodied richness and depth, it gives up Guigal La Landonne like aromas and flavors of graphite, sweet oak, smoked meats, pepper and black raspberry and cassis-like fruit. 2001 Sine Qua Non "Midnight Oil" Syrah
Bid on this bottle of 2001 Sine Qua Non "Midnight Oil" Syrah (96RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The impeccable 2001 Midnight Oil (95.5% Syrah, 3% Grenache, and 1.5% Viognier) is a product of four vineyards, Alban, Stolpman, Bien Nacido, and White Hawk. The good news is there are 950 cases of this compelling effort. With a 'midnight' black color, and the viscosity of 10-W-40 oil, its aromas of violet/acacia flowers, melted licorice, camphor, blackberries, creme de cassis, and subtle toasty new oak are accompanied by a wine boasting terrific texture, good underlying acidity, ripe tannin, and a 60-second plus finish. This stunning effort competes with the 2000, and what looks to be Krankl’s greatest Syrah-based wine to date, the 2002. (RP)" (08/2003)
