2001 Saxum "Bone Rock" James Berry Vineyard Paso Robles Syrah (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum of 2001 Saxum "Bone Rock" James Berry Vineyard Paso Robles Syrah (1.5L) (95RP, 93WS). 95 points Robert Parker: "The spectacular 2001 Syrah James Berry Vineyard Bone Rock is a 300- case blend of 92% Syrah, 5% Mourvedre, and 3% Grenache aged 21 months in both French and Hungarian oak. Racked once, and bottled unfined and unfiltered, it takes its name from fossilized whale bones that were found imbedded in the vineyard’s steep, rocky terraces. It boasts great power and richness, but is incredibly well balanced. Its dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by a huge perfume of blackberry liqueur, camphor, licorice, earth, and roasting meat juices. The fabulous complex aromatics are followed by a full-bodied Syrah with great purity, impeccable balance, and world-class richness, complexity, and stature. This amazing effort can be drunk now or cellared for a decade. This is the best recent trilogy I’ve experienced since Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings!" (08/04) 93 points Wi

The wine is full-bodied, rather opulent, fleshy, and mouthfilling with no hard edges, and should drink beautifully for 5-8 years." (12/2007)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Glaetzer Shiraz Barossa Valley South Australia (96JH, (94-96RP), 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The finest of this trio is the flagship cuvee, the 2004 Shiraz produced from 80- to 150-year-old dry farmed vineyards in the northern Ebenezer sector of the Barossa. Aged 16 months in French oak and American hogsheads, this larger-than-life, fascinating wine (cropped at .25 to 1 ton of fruit per acre) offers big, sweet, blackberry and cassis characteristics intermixed with notions of smoke, licorice, and pain grille. A wine of amazing extract, richness, and full-bodied power, with great purity as well as balance, this stunning offering should age effortlessly for 15 or more years. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2008 Cayuse "Bionic Frog" Walla Walla Valley Syrah (100WE, 96RP, 96ST, 93WS). Wine Enthusiast: "Initially a rather subdued Frog; as if it has been tamed down. Then, suddenly, There’s a plush core of blackberry fruit, and the classic Cayuse funkiness is there, drenched in liquid rocks and cured meat and drying tannins. It’s all in proportion and a fine reflection of the steely vintage. As it opens gracefully you discover that it is a stunningly refined Frog, quite possibly the best ever; powerful and distinctive, but also elegant, feminine." (11/2011)

Rita Hills Grenache,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: " The current release of the estate vineyard (a.k.a. the extended barrel-aged cuvee), the 2010 Grenache Stockholm Syndrome is an incredible effort that I couldn’t find a fault with. A blend of 75% Grenache, 22% Syrah, 2% Roussanne and 1% Viognier, all from the Eleven Confession Vineyard, it spent just under 30 months in 22% new and 78% used French oak prior to bottling. It possesses striking inner perfume and beautifully delineated fruit. Blackberries, blueberries, freshly cut white flowers, licorice, tar and asphalt are some of the notes that take shape in the glass. Alban gave the 2007 Reva 44 months in untoasted French oak barrels. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Pax "Obsidian" Knight's Valley Syrah (96RP, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Syrah Obsidian Vineyard is from Knight’s Valley. This is steep hillside vineyard stuff with a dense, dark purple color, a phenomenally rich nose of brioche, acacia flowers, blackberry, and blueberry jam intermixed with some white chocolate and perhaps hints of fig and truffle. The wine is spicy, full-bodied, incredibly opulent, and thick, even unctuously textured, with great purity and richness. Moreover, the glycerin and viscosity cover up some huge tannins. This is an amazingly big, thick wine, but it still cascades over the palate like a waterfall. This wine should come into its own in several years and drink well for 10-15. (RP)" (12/2007)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A new wine for 2012, the 2012 Syrah Sur Echalas Vineyard (same vineyard as the Grenache, and located just beside the Cayuse estate and the Armada Vineyard) is a stunning example of the quality coming from these rocky soils around Milton Freewater. Offering incredible notes of pepper, bacon fat, steak tartare, olive paste and deep, savory dark fruit, this full-bodied barrel sample has fabulous concentration, beautiful purity and a blockbuster finish. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2008 Alban "Reva" Edna Valley Syrah ((95-96JS), 96RP, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Reva (Syrah) is stunningly beautiful. This is a relatively delicate, feminine Reva that impresses for its length, balance and utter purity of fruit. Dark red cherries, flowers, mint and silky, saline notes wrap around the expressive fruit on the long, polished finish. A hint of truffles adds to the wine’s sensual, totally beguiling personality. In 2008, the Reva is drop-dead gorgeous. Readers should note that, in this vintage, there is no Lorraine or Seymour’s, so the 2008 is a 'super-Reva!' Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020. 96+ points. The wine is full-bodied, almost inky in the mouth, with sensational richness, voluptuous texture, and a stunningly long finish. This is a brilliant Syrah to drink over the next decade or more." Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2010 Cayuse "Cailloux Vineyard" Walla Walla Valley Syrah (96RP, 95ST, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The only one of Christophe’s Syrahs to be co-fermented with Viognier, the 2010 Syrah Cailloux Vineyard (90% Syrah, 10% Viognier) shows the least amount of Cayuse funk and has classic northern Rhone-like aromas and flavors of black raspberry, black pepper, edgy minerality, spring flowers and hints of bacon fat. Gaining additional complexity and nuances with air, it is silky and polished on the palate, with full-bodied richness, a seamless, elegant texture and remarkable persistence and length on the finish. One of those wines that delivers incredible amounts of fruit and texture without ever seeming heavy, it is a brilliant wine that will benefit from a handful of years in the cellar and shine for 10-15 years. Of the 2007 Next of Kyn (Sine Qua Non) "Cumulus Vineyard No. 1" Central Coast Syrah,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 2007 Syrah Cumulus Vineyard is a meaty, earthy effort representing a hypothetical blend of a northern Rhone with the exuberant, unabashedly ripe, juicy fruit of California. Jus de viande, damp earth, black currant, and blackberry notes along with good minerality and an absence of oak are all present in this full-bodied Syrah. Like all of these wines, it is a remarkable wine of extraordinary intensity, with a stunning nose of blueberries, bacon fat, camphor, and even darker blackberries, along with unreal minerality and definition for a wine of this size and power. Of the 2004 Nickel & Nickel "Sori Bricco" Diamond Mountain Merlot ,The winery's note writes: "High in the hills of Diamond Mountain, Sori Bricco spans a wide range of hillsides with different sun exposures resulting in separate harvest dates across the ranch. The soil is composed of a sandy, gravelly loam and the vines tend to be very small as they struggle against the slopes. The climate is very warm in the early spring and these vines are amongst the first to bud out each year. The warm summer months push these vines ahead of those on the v

2006 Alban "Seymour's Vineyard" Edna Valley Syrah
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2006 Alban "Seymour's Vineyard" Edna Valley Syrah (98RP, 96ST, 96WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The succession of prodigious Syrahs continues with the 2006 Syrah Seymour’s Vineyard (named after John Alban’s father). An infant in terms of development, it exhibits a smoky meatiness along with a forest floor character as well as its siblings’ colossal level of concentration, enormous, multilayered texture, and skyscraper-like mouthfeel. Remarkably, there is no sense of heaviness. Another tour de force in Central Coast Syrah, it should drink well for 30-40 years. (98+)" (08/2009)

The enticing aromatics have a citrusy lift, with orange peel and incense, like drinking a Persian rug. Aged 22 months in mostly used oak (various sizes), it offers awesome purity and freshness in its black raspberry, cassis, ground herbs, white pepper and licorice-driven bouquet. Performing better from bottle than it did from barrel, this prodigious red exhibits incredibly velvety tannins, a seamless style, and no noticeable oak (which is remarkable given the fact it spent 32 months in barrel). 2004 Araujo "Eisele Vineyard" Napa Valley Syrah
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Araujo "Eisele Vineyard" Napa Valley Syrah (94RP, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "(94+ points): Previously recommended, but no tasting note given. In a 12/2007 review with the same score: Syrah has done well in this climate, and the 2004 Syrah Eisele Vineyard is a more elegant, lighter-styled wine than I thought from tasting it last year. It is still well-delineated with a dark ruby/purple color, floral and blackberry notes, a subtle peppery touch and a hint of meat. The wine is pretty and does include a small percentage of Viognier in the blend (usually around 3-4%). Unfortunately, the production of this wine is only around 300-400 cases. One of California’s and the world’s great wine estates, Araujo continues to exhibit remarkable consistency and impeccably high quality. Little seems to change other than some minor tweaking with respect to viticulture and winemaking. The team of Bart and Daphne Araujo, their talented longtime winemaker, Francoi

Smoke-accented cherry, cassis and blueberry on the nose, with hints of olive, violet and dark chocolate. Big, palate-coating and chewy, with good depth to its dark berry and floral pastille flavors. Shows alluring sweetness on the finish, with supple tannins adding support and shape. More fleshy and open-knit than the Saint-Joseph Vieilles Vignes, which will likely outlive this wine. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2001 Ojai "Melville" Sta. Rita Hills Syrah (95RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "My favorite is the blockbuster 2001 Syrah Melville Vineyard, which offers up gorgeously compelling creme de cassis, blueberry liqueur, spice box, mineral, and acacia flower aromas as well as flavors. It is dense, pure, and multilayered, with an opulence that provides immediate accessibility. However, there is no doubting that it will stand up to 10-14 years of cellaring. 2004 Peay Vineyards "La Bruma-Estate" Sonoma Coast Syrah
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2004 Peay Vineyards "La Bruma-Estate" Sonoma Coast Syrah (94W&S, 90ST). Wine & Spirits: "The Peays named this selection of Syrah for the fog that blankets their far coast vines, a coolness factor that creates bright flavors and full maturity at potential alcohols in the mid-13s. The '04 is an electric blue, an intensity of color that's paralleled by the pure black raspberry freshness of the wine. Underneath the glimmering brightness, there's a sophisticated depth of dark, savory extract, grounding the wine with a meaty structure. The fruit makes it exotic; the tannins make it satisfying. Overall, there's something simple and straightforward about the wine, as if Syrah had found its true place." (02/2007)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2008 Sine Qua Non "B 20" Syrah (95RP, 94JS, 94ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Syrah B-20 is a cool, inward wine graced with layers of beautifully delineated, chiseled fruit. This is a distinctly mineral, precise style relative to the more outgoing 2009, but both are striking. Floral notes add lift as the finish turns explosive with a burst of dark fruit, tar, licorice and crushed rocks. This is one of the more understated wines readers are likely to come across from Sine Qua Non. It is gorgeous when given the time to open up. The B-20 is predominantly Syrah, with 6% Grenache and 2% Viognier. About half of the Grenache was fermented with whole clusters and the wine was aged in French oak (60% new) for 26 months. Phenomenal depth of fruit. This is so deep. I love it. Just a baby. A wine you really have to get to know. You have to feel it. Reminds me of the 1989 Rayas. Its dense purple color is accompanied by notes of roasted meats, ground pepper, damp earth, truffles, underbrush, and forest floor. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2009 Cayuse "En Cerise" Walla Walla Valley Syrah (96RP, 95WS, 94ST, 94WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Fermented in concrete, then aged in demi-muids, only around 20% of which were new, Baron’s 2009 Syrah En Cerise Vineyard incorporates a mouthwateringly savory alliance of smoke meat and soy sauce to its luxuriantly rich, silken-textured matrix of confitured cassis and cherry, further laced with salted caramel, while striking perfume of mint, gentian, cardamom, and rose wood hovers above the glass and inner-mouth. The finish here lingers with an uncanny combination of seductive caress, vibrancy, richness, and buoyancy, its many flavor strands -- floral, fruited, animal, spice and mineral -- dynamically intertwining. I would surely give at least some bottles of it 12-15 years’ opportunity to show their true potential. Cautious as I attempt to be in drawing such parallels, if Baron’s latest Cailloux bottling resembles Verset Cornas, then this En Cerise put

This thick, opaque-purple colored wine offers up notes of scorched earth, ground pepper, and blackberry liqueur intermixed with cassis, licorice, camphor, and tar.
