2005 Sine Qua Non "Atlantis fe203-1c" California Syrah
Bid on this 4-bottle of 2005 Sine Qua Non "Atlantis fe203-1c" California Syrah (100RP, (94-95ST), 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The perfect 2005 Syrah Atlantis Fe 203-1a,b,c is a blend of 93% Syrah, 5% Grenache, and 2% Viognier, with 25% whole clusters. Whereas the Ode to E is all from the Eleven Confessions Vineyard, this cuvee is a combination of 43% from the estate vineyard, 28% from the White Hawk Vineyard, 21% from the Alban Vineyard, and 8% from the Bien Nacido Vineyard. The good news is there are nearly 1,500 cases of this recently released offering. An extraordinarily flowery nose interwoven with scents of blueberries, blackberries, incense, and graphite soars from the glass. Although not the biggest or most concentrated Syrah Krankl has made, it is one of the most nuanced, elegant, and complex. It remains full-bodied, but builds incrementally on the palate, and comes across as elegant and delicate, especially when compared to many California Syrahs. Nevertheles

The palate has inbuilt freshness. Super fine tannins are bathed in red plum and stony, slate like flavors. Finishes long and fresh. A wildly interesting wine of depth and detail. " (09/2017)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Syrah North Coast is a multi-appellation blend from five separate vineyards that utilized 40% stems and 15% new French oak. It is a delicious, sexy, up-front Syrah meant for near-term consumption. With impressive levels of blackberry and acacia flower notes intermixed with licorice and charcoal, this wine should drink well for 5-7 years. (RP)" (12/2013)

2006 August West "Rosella's Vineyard" Santa Lucia Highlands Syrah
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2006 August West "Rosella's Vineyard" Santa Lucia Highlands Syrah. According to the winemaker: "Situated in the center of the Santa Lucia Highlands appellation is Gary Franscioni's Rosella's Vineyard. With perfect southeast exposure, the 50 acres of vineyard were planted over the course of seven years (1996-2003). The deep Arroyo Seco sandy loam soil that lies beneath the vineyard provides a hospitable home for the vines at Rosella's. Gary farms the vineyard on a vine by vine basis, making sure that each vine's root system is well-established before allowing a crop to hang. These same soils could easily ripen a crop three times the size of Rosella's typical two to three tons per acre, however Gary chooses to keep the tonnage low to make sure the terroir of Rosella's comes through in each cluster. Nearby Monterey Bay holds an immense influence over the weather at Rosella's Vineyard. Typical growing days are marked by dense fog in the early morning hours fo

Energetic redcurrant and strawberry aromas are complicated by cured meat, Asian spices and minerals. There's a pinot-like delicacy and precision to this wine that's really intriguing. Clean and brisk, with sweet red fruit flavors and a seductive floral pastille quality. Finishes with impressive cut and persistence, leaving minerals and tangy berry skin notes behind. Of the 2006 Sine Qua Non "The Raven No. 9" Grenache,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "This blend of 90% Grenache and 10% Syrah, largely from the 11 Confessions Vineyard, with a small amount from Bien Nacido, spent 21 months in barrel. It is really strutting its stuff now, and showing even better than my original note predicted in August of 2009. The wine has loads of meat, licorice, smoke, charcoal and graphite, as well as huge peppery, blackberry and black cherry notes. Full-bodied, with great acidity, nicely integrated tannin, an admirable mouthfeel and tremendous length, this killer Grenache is still young ... (RP)" (08/2011)

Pure aromas of blackberry, black raspberry and violet; more deeply pitched and less expressive today than the Chaillot. Bigger and thicker in the mouth but also with terrific verve and floral perfume. Clearly higher in volatile acidity than the Chaillot ... Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2014 Sine Qua Non "Piranha Waterdance" California Syrah ((97-100RP), (95-97VN)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Syrah Piranha Waterdance is young and unevolved (more than the Grenache) and sports an inky blue color to go with lots of minerality, notes of cassis, violets and pepper, full-bodied richness and a surprisingly serious, structured, even masculine vibe on the palate. A blend of 81% Syrah, 8% Petite Sirah and the rest Mourvedre, Touriga Nacional and Graciano, fermented with 26% whole clusters and aging in 54% new French oak, it will be bottled just after the Grenache, in April of next year. Of the 2013 Cayuse "En Chamberlin" Walla Walla Valley Syrah,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "A wine that continued to change and develop in the glass was the 2013 Syrah en Chamberlin Vineyard, which is the smallest production cuvee of the 2013 single vineyard releases (there’s 340 cases). Notes of smoke, charcuterie, black olives, black pepper and violets all emerge from this complex, layered, full-bodied beauty that has fine tannin, a seamless, elegant texture and beautiful length. Of the 2009 Domaine Pierre Usseglio "Mon Aïeul" Châteauneuf-du-Pape,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "Another wine that got better and better over the evening was the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de Mon Aieul. I've drunk through my fair share of bottles of this over the past few years. It has never shut down and has always shown well. A ripe, forward and sexy wine, it has lots of kirsch, garrigue, exotic spice and floral notes to go with a ripe, concentrated feel on the palate. Bid on this magnum lot of 2012 Cayuse "Wallah Wallah Special #4" Walla Walla Valley Syrah (1.5L) (OWC - 96RP, 95VN, 94WE, 93WS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Made by Christophe as a tribute to Cote Rotie and coming from a blend of estate vineyards, the 2012 Syrah Wallah Wallah #4 Special spent 22 months in older puncheons and neutral smaller barrels before being bottled only in Magnum, of which there’s only 2,500 to go around. Hitting 13.6% natural alcohol, its deep ruby, semi-opaque color is followed by fabulous notes of rose petals, incense, violets, leather and sweet raspberry. These flow seamlessly to a full-bodied, supple and elegant Syrah that has no hard edges, integrated acidity and thrilling purity of fruit. Bid on this magnum lot of 1990 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage "La Chapelle" (1.5L) (100RP, 98JS, 97WS, 96VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 La Chapelle is sexy and opulent. I had the 1990 at the Jaboulet tasting, and again out of a double magnum three months ago. On both occasions it was spectacular, clearly meriting a three-digit score. The modern day equivalent of the 1961, it deserves all the attention it has garnered. The color remains an opaque purple, with only a slight pink at the edge. Spectacular aromatics offer up aromas of incense, smoke, blackberry fruit, cassis, barbecue spice, coffee, and a touch of chocolate. As it sits in the glass, additional nuances of pepper and grilled steak emerge. There is extraordinary freshness for such a mammoth wine in addition to abundant tannin, an amazing 60-second finish, and a level of glycerin and thick, fleshy texture that have to be tasted to be believed. Despite its youthfulness, the 1990 La Chapelle is lovely to drink, altho

Of the 1991 M. Chapoutier "La Mordorée" Côte-Rôtie ,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "In the same class as the great single-vineyard Cote Roties made by Marcel Guigal (i.e., La Mouline, La Turque, and La Landonne), La Mordoree is most akin to La Mouline in its seductive, otherworldly fragrance and layers of sweet, expansive, velvety-textured fruit. There were 400 cases made of this saturated purple-colored wine. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2012 Cayuse "Armada Vineyard" Walla Walla Valley Syrah (OCB - 96RP, 95WE, 94VN, 93WS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another longer-term prospect is the 2012 Syrah Armada Vineyard. One of the more burly, structured releases from this estate, it's always poured after the Bionic Frog and is the last Syrah we taste in a vintage. The 2012 gives up lots of iodine, raw meats and floral notes that are balanced by a core of distinct black raspberry fruit, which in most vintages veers more toward the darker, more plummy side of the spectrum. Full-bodied, tight and yet nicely concentrated, with good tannin, it should be at its best from 2018-2028. (JD)" (06/2015)

One of the more streamlined, elegant examples of this cuvee, it still has a serious, lengthy feel, full-bodied richness and building underlying structure that makes me think 3-5 years of cellaring are warranted. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2007 Saxum "Booker Vineyard" Paso Robles Syrah (99RP, 95ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The inky/purple-hued 2007 Booker Vineyard (95% Syrah and 5% Grenache) boasts a floral-dominated bouquet with camphor, blackberry, roasted meat, and espresso scents in the background. The density, flavor intensity, richness, full-bodied power, elegance, and freshness are all hallmarks of this special vintage in the Central Coast. This wine should drink well for 10-12+ years.
