Of the 2002 Beringer "Private Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "A sensational 14,000-case cuvee that is one of the benchmarks for what Napa Valley is capable of achieving. Its dense purple color is followed by copious notes of smoky barbecue, creme de cassis, white chocolate, blackberries, charcoal and truffles. Full-bodied, fleshy and succulent, with sweet tannins in the finish, this 2002 has not yet hit full maturity. Give it another 2-4 years of cellaring, and drink it over the following two decades. 2004 Agharta North Coast Syrah
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2004 Agharta North Coast Syrah (98RP, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Proprietors Pam and Pax Mahle have fashioned a 2004 Syrah called Agharta. Aged 58 months (that’s not a typo) in French oak casks (the 2005, 2006, and 2007 vintages will spend 45-48 months in cask), the extraordinary 2004 is a 475-case blend of 92% Syrah, 5% Grenache, and the rest Viognier, Marsanne, and Roussane. Most of the Syrah comes from the Alder Springs Vineyard in Mendocino. This profound wine’s inky/purple color is followed by aromas of smoky barbecue meats, grilled Provencal herbs, and exotic tropical fruits intermixed with blackberry, cassis, blueberry, and graphite. This super-rich effort tastes like the nectar of Syrah, yet it is dry, elegant, and remarkably fresh and precise. In the mouth, the impression is like that of a multilayered cake -- everything is there. This is an amazing, very multi-dimensional wine that must be tasted to be believed. It can be drunk now or c

Of the 2007 Anderson's Conn Valley "Eloge" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 2007 Eloge is a profoundly complex, extraordinary wine that is showing better out of bottle than it ever did from barrel. The final blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc and the rest Petit Verdot and Merlot reveals an inky/purple color as well as a gorgeous nose of graphite, creme de cassis, cedarwood, Christmas fruitcake, bay leaf and a damp forest floor-like character. It possesses sensational depth, a full-bodied opulence, admirable purity and a skyscraper-like texture and finish. (RP)" (12/2010)

2004 Jacquesson "Champs Cain" Avize Brut Champagne
Bid on this bottle of 2004 Jacquesson "Champs Cain" Avize Brut Champagne (96RP, 95VN, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From vines planted in 1962, the single-vineyard Jacquesson 2004 Extra Brut Avize Champ Cain leads with an utterly remarkable nose. A greenhouse-like profusion of leafing and flowering things is imposed over sea breeze, with jasmine; musky narcissus; nose-prickling spice as if from some exotic orchid; iodine-tinged toasted shrimp shells; and toasted grain all pungently present and anticipating the elusive complexity delivered on a caressingly polished yet consummately refreshing and almost ethereally delicate palate. Over time, the sense of creaminess and the refinement of bubbles became more evident, along with a contrasting impression of enhanced piquancy, suggesting hops and lentil sprouts, all in the context of remarkable poise and transparency to nuance. The endlessly fascinating finish remains infectiously juicy and subtly yet mouthwateringly saline. Lucky o

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Château de Beaucastel "Hommage a Jacques Perrin" Châteauneuf-du-Pape ((96-98ST), 96WS, 95RP). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated ruby. Remarkably deep nose combines cherry, raspberry, licorice, smoked meat and mineral notes, all lifted by an intense floral quality. A stunning example of freshness and precision married to power, with deep cassis, bitter cherry and candied licorice flavors enlivened by zesty minerality and framed by firm but harmonious tannins. 'This is not about extraction,' notes Perrin. The endless finish echoes the mineral and floral tones, showing a persistent lavender note. This was not yet bottled when I tasted it. (JR)" (02/2007)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The super-expressive 2004 Cobos Malbec Marchiori Vineyard is opaque purple/black in color. Its perfume of toasty oak, mineral, lavender, blueberry, and black cherry is very sexy and leads to a complex, spicy, rich, chewy wine which also manages to combine elegance and power. Of the 2004 Philip Togni Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon, a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, comes from steep mountain vineyards at the top of the Napa side of Spring Mountain. Aromas of black olives, tapenade, creme de cassis, licorice and truffles emerge from this opaque ruby/purple-colored, youthful 2004. Togni’s spiritual reference point is Bordeaux more than Napa Valley, and his wines seem to represent a hypothetical melange of those two distinctive schools of wine. Still backward, but rich, full-bodied and promising, this brilliant 2004 is 5-7 years away from its adolescence; it should age for 30-40

The texture is sensational, and the wine is full-bodied, powerful and long. Combining elegance, finesse and power, it is one of the superstars of the vintage. Wine Spectator: "This starts perfumy, displaying lots of sandalwood, black tea and roasted chestnut notes, turning taut and iron-filled, with layers of black cherry, currant and braised fig fruit filling in the background. Licorice root, black tea and cedar round out the finish, which has tons of grip and cut, but also manages to stay elegant. No Réserve des Célestins in 2003. Drink now through 2027. (JM)" (10/2010)

The wine reveals wonderful structure and definition along with oodles of concentrated, sweet jammy fruit and abundant glycerin. This beauty should drink well for 10-12 years. (RP)" (12/2005)

The silkiness and allure the 2004 showed when it was first bottled is there, but the fruit is presently hiding beneath a wall of imposing structure. Of the 2004 Joseph Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend,Wine Enthusiast writes: "Tasted in October, 2007, the wine was mute, offering little aromatically except for teasing notes of blackberries and oak. That shyness extended to the taste, where strong, hard tannins provide an almost impenetrable coat of armor to what’s inside. But right down the middle of the palate is a deep, intensely powerful stream of perfectly ripened cassis that’s all the proof you need of ageability. 2004 Shafer "Hillside Select" Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 2004 Shafer "Hillside Select" Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon (100WE, 99RP, 96WS, 95VN, 95W&S, 93CG). Wine Enthusiast: "A perfect score has to be considered in the context of its region. Shafer’s 2004 Hillside Select is tremendous as a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon that competes with its peers at the highest levels. It’s always a fabulous wine, but in warm 2004, Shafer’s amphitheater vineyard sheltered the grapes, ripening them to perfection yet protecting the “iron fist in a velvet glove” structure that André Tchelistcheff defined as Stags Leap. This 100% Cabernet is tremendous in cassis, black currant and mocha flavors, and the 100% new French oak provides perfect additions of smoke and caramel. It’s soft and gorgeous enough to drink now, and should age well in a cool cellar for the next 20 years." (03/2009)

Vinous: "The 2004 Dom Ruinart is just as brilliant and viscerally thrilling as it has always been. If anything, the 2004 has shut down considerably over the last six months. Tightly coiled and exceptionally beautiful, the 2004 boasts fabulous intensity, class and pedigree. The flavors are vibrant, chiseled and crystalline in their precision. 2004 Salon Blanc de Blancs Brut Champagne
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Salon Blanc de Blancs Brut Champagne (98JS, 97VN, 94WS). James Suckling: "2004 Salon weaves together immense complexity with stunning purity and makes instant impact on the nose with fresh-baked pastry and brioche, chalky minerals, fresh white mushroom, cucumber, lemon curd and striking lemon and lime citrus fruits. The palate has an almost smoky mineral thread, toasty autolytic flavors build and expand through the mid-palate, opening to grapefruit and ripe white peach flavours, lemon sorbet and very lightly grilled hazelnuts to close. This is an impressively layered Blanc de Blancs in which bright acidity supports the flavorsome, concentrated and fleshy texture in seamless balance. A great Salon, very composed and complex in every respect, a classically styled vintage in which this legendary Champagne has excelled. It will be a fascinatingly complex Champagne with further age. 2004 Giuseppe Quintarelli Valpolicella Classico Superiore
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2004 Giuseppe Quintarelli Valpolicella Classico Superiore. The reputation of the estate of Giuseppe Quintarelli is simply legendary. Their beautifully crafted wines are celebrated worldwide and naturally the Amarone gets most of the prestige. But the Valpolicella Classico Superiore deserves just as much recogntion for delivering an excellent performance at a much more attainable price than the prestigious Amarone wines. This value is even more pronounced in a particularly fine vintage like 2004. Fruit for the Valpolicella Classico Superiore is sourced from the same 11 hectares of estate vineyard as the Amarone wines, with vines planted in limestone and basalt soils and averaging 30 years old. A ripasso wine, the grapes are crushed immediately after harvest and fermented on indigenous yeast. The wine is held until February when it is racked onto the must and lees of the Amarone wines, which begins a second fermentation and the wine gains further extraction f

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Paul Hobbs "Beckstoffer To-Kalon" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon (99RP, 94WS, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Hobbs was one of the first to recognize the brilliance of Oakville’s Beckstoffer To-Kalon Vineyard, and he has produced several wines that were either perfect, or pushing perfection. This 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To-Kalon Vineyard reveals that haunting, almost indescribable bouquet of red and black fruits, spring flowers, and subtle hint of lead pencil shavings that aromatically blows away the taster. If one could have a 100-point bouquet, this is it. Moreover, the flavors don’t let the taster down. Nearly as powerful and rich as the 2002, this full-bodied 2004 is a glorious, classic Napa Cabernet Sauvignon that has been flawlessly vinified. The enormity of the mid-palate, texture and skyscraper-like mouthfeel with no heaviness result in a prodigious effort that is one of the top four or five wines of the vintage. This spectacular
