2004 Chateau Montelena Estate Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum of 2004 Chateau Montelena Estate Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (94RP, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, all from their old vineyards in Calistoga. This is a dense, ruby/purple-tinged wine with full body, and despite the softness of the general vintage, Montelena has plenty of structure. Like nearly every vintage of their top Cabernet Sauvignon, it will last for 25 or more years. The wine has sweet tannin in a broad, flavorful, concentrated style with plenty of black currant, licorice, and spice. The wine is beautifully textured, slightly more forward than most Montelena Cabernets tend to be. It is another beauty from probably the most consistent winery for Cabernet Sauvignon over the last three decades. (94+)" (12/2007)

2004 Abreu "Rothwell Hyde" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this bottle of 2004 Abreu "Rothwell Hyde" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The first example of this cuvee I have tasted, the 2004 Rothwell Hyde Red Wine Blend is packaged with a brilliant orange-colored label. It possesses sweet creme de cassis fruit along with full-bodied, chunky, fleshy, fruit flavors, but not the complexity of the Madrona Ranch or Thorevilos. There are no hard edges in this lusty Cabernet Sauvignon. Enjoy it over the next decade. (RP)" (04/2014)

2004 Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Brücke Riesling Eiswein Nahe (375ml)
Bid on this half-bottle of 2004 Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Brücke Riesling Eiswein Nahe (375ml) (99RP, 96WS, 95JG). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The first day’s Eiswein picking, December 21, yielded 2004 Oberhauser Brucke Riesling Eiswein A.P. #23. Smelling of a super concentrate and distillate of yellow plums, apricot and red raspberries, this displays enormous concentration, fat, thickness and sweetness on the palate while managing -- thanks to its sheer density and spine-tingling citricity? no, make that electricity! -- to be not at all cloying, and indeed positively animated. Warm cinnamon stick, vanilla, jellied red fruits, dried concentration of apple and plum, a wealth of citrus ? there is such concentration, complexity, purity and sheer length one becomes light-headed thinking about the sacrilege of trying to do it justice in a wine journal. Wine Enthusiast: "If one of 2004’s enduring characteristics is its freshness, then Margaux epitomizes this. It is so deliciously fresh and floating, with great black currant and blueberry fruits, pointed up by spice, mint and a sense of elegance and poise. There’s no doubt about its aging potential either: just feel that heart of firm tannins. (RV)" (06/2007)

2004 Dominio Pingus Ribera del Duero
Bid on this bottle of 2004 Dominio Pingus Ribera del Duero (100RP, 96ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Pingus is a glass-coating opaque purple/black color with a bouquet of Asian spices, incense, lavender, truffle, black cherry, and blackberry that soars from the glass. Dense, rich, and seamless, this is a complete, harmonious offering with no rough edges. It will continue to blossom for another 5-7 years and offer a drinking window extending from 2014 to 2044. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2004 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan (96W&S, 96WE, 95WS, 92RP, 91VN). Wine Enthusiast: "Of the pair of châteaux, La Mission Haut-Brion and Haut-Brion (both owned by the Dillon banking family) that face each other across the crowded streets of Pessac, Haut-Brion is the one with the structure, the darkness, the brooding character. This is so true of 2004, with its hugely firm structure underlying the initial supple fruit. At the end, the acidity is an enticing surprise, lifting the aftertaste. (RV)" (06/2007)

2004 Quilceda Creek Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 2004 Quilceda Creek Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (98RP, 95ST, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Also offering off-the-charts richness, with a flamboyant, hedonistic profile, the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon (96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc) possesses spice-laced aromas and flavors of cassis, smoke tobacco, roasted meats, dried licorice and wild herbs that are to die for. Full-bodied, incredibly layered, rich and textured it has no hard edges, masses of tannin and a finish that won’t quit. I’ve been lucky enough to taste this cuvee three times (rated 96 and 97) in the past handful of weeks and this was the best showing yet. From a cool vintage, it is still youthful and vibrant, and will continue to shine for another 15+ years. Drink now-2028. (JD)" (06/2013)

2004 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac (375ml)
Bid on this 3-half-bottle lot of 2004 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac (375ml) (93RP). 93 points Robert Parker: "An undeniable star of the vintage, Pichon-Baron’s 2004 boasts an inky/ruby/purple color to the rim as well as a big, sweet nose of melted licorice, chocolate, black currant jam, truffles, and charcoal embers. Soft tannin, full body, and abundant opulence and flesh are atypical for the vintage character, but this wine is loaded. Pure, ripe, and evolved, it should be at its finest between 2009-2022." 2004 Robert Foley Napa Valley Petite Sirah
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2004 Robert Foley Napa Valley Petite Sirah (95RP, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Petite Sirah is one of the most compelling examples of this varietal that I have ever tasted from California. As longtime readers know, I believe this is the most underrated varietal in California, but it’s not exactly a fun wine to drink young. After 10-15 years of age, it often reveals more character than many more expensive reds. Bob Foley has fashioned a true blockbuster that should age for three decades, but should be accessible when young given its abundant extraction and richness. The softness of the tannins and the wine’s silky, voluptuous character suggest it can be consumed over the next 2-3 years, but it will not reveal many secondary nuances for 5-6 more years. An inky/black/ruby color is accompanied by notes of incense, fruit cake, blackberries, chocolate, and roasted coffee. Although it has huge body as well as massive concentration, nothing is out

2004 Boxler Riesling "Sommerberg" Vendanges Tardives
Bid on this 5-500 ml-bottle lot of 2004 Boxler Riesling "Sommerberg" Vendanges Tardives (94RP, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Riesling Sommerberg D Vendange Tardive smells of peaches and apricots, butter cream and vanilla. Overtly creamy, silken, and rich on the palate, but possessed as well of a distinctive sense of underlying stony mineral density, it scarcely betrays its 60 grams of residual sugar. Peach, apricot kernel, nut oils, and vanilla, salt and stone linger with amazing persistence. This is easily a candidate for a dozen or more years in the cellar. But as it has nowhere near the delicacy, brightness, or lift of the 2005 Riesling Sommerberg D Vendage Tardive, I would wait several years before even re-visiting it. (DS)" (02/2008)

2004 Schrader "Old Sparky" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum of 2004 Schrader "Old Sparky" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (98RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Old Sparky is made from clones 4, 6 and 337, the same as the Schrader, and comes from the Beckstoffer To Kalon vineyard as well. It tips the scales at the highest alcohol for them – 14.7%. It was aged 20 months in 80% Darnajou and 20% Taransaud and there are only 100 cases. This is a spectacular wine that is very sexy and forward, with great creme de cassis, and blackberry fruit intermixed with hints of coffee, unsmoked cigar tobacco, licorice and graphite. Full-bodied and layered, it is a sensational wine to drink now and over the next 20-25 years. (RP)" (02/2014)

Of the 2004 Cakebread Napa Cabernet Sauvignon,Wine & Spirits writes: "This wine feels lean at first, a cocoa-scented cabernet with umami flavors of roast mushrooms to balance its dark fig notes. With air, the warm fruit saturates the gentle and chewy tannin. To decant for sirloin smothered in wild mushrooms." (12/2007)

2004 Pavie, St-Emilion
Bid on this bottle of 2004 Pavie, St-Emilion (96W&S, 95WS, 94RP). Wine & Spirits: "A conspicuously modern wine, Pavie with its hyper-ripe fruit and substantial new oak treatment stands out as an offense to some, a glorious pleasure to others. In the case of the 2004, it carries the oak beautifully, untamed by it. The wine is wild, in fact, and quite hard to resist. The cool complexity of the tannins grows out of three terroirs: the limestone plateau, a sector of gravel and limestone and a third sector of clay. The fruit opens with thick-skinned black plum power, reverberating with feral scents and violets. Staunch and formidable, the wine is packed with life." (10/2007)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2004 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Les St-Georges" (94JG, (90-93BH), (90-92ST)). John Gilman: "The 2004 Les St. Georges is the aristocrat of the cellar, and while it may not quite have the same power as the Vaucrains, it is the most complex young wine here. The nose is deep, refined and shows outstanding complexity for such a young bottle of Nuits, offering up notes of black cherries, red plums, layers of minerality, a bit of the game to come, woodsmoke, bitter chocolate, a hint of violet (though not as floral as the Cailles) and a delicate framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, closed and rock solid at the core, with beautiful balance, well-integrated tannins, and a long, tangy finish. Great juice in the making." (01/2006)

2004 Bond "St. Eden" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this bottle of 2004 Bond "St. Eden" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (98RP, 96WE, 93AG, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon St. Eden, which comes from a valley floor vineyard in Oakville, is another dead ringer for a great Pauillac, possibly a young Mouton. Dense bluish/purple in color with stunning notes of cedarwood, unsmoked high-quality cigar tobacco, creme de cassis and espresso roast, this wine has fabulous fruit, density and a full-bodied, youthful mouthfeel, wonderful balance and purity, and a terrific finish that goes on for close to a minute. This is also relatively open, but slightly more structured than the Melbury. There’s no sense deferring gratification, so I would suggest drinking it over the next 15-20 years, possibly longer. Bid on this 6-half-bottle lot of 2004 Léoville-Barton, St-Julien (375ml) (92RP, 91ST, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is an impressively endowed vin de garde that should age effortlessly for 20-30 years. How Anthony Barton continues to fashion uncompromisingly primordial Bordeaux that are always among the biggest and densest of all the St.-Juliens is beyond me, but he does it year in and year out. Moreover, when it’s time to set the price, he appears to have the consumer foremost in his mind. The 2004 is a classic Leoville-Barton meant for long aging. Concentrated, with loads of smoke, creme de cassis, forest floor, and earthy notes emerge from this impressive, but oh, so backward wine. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030+. (92+)" (06/2007)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Composed of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec, the saturated purple-colored 2004 Proprietary Red Wine is a wonderful monster in the making. It boasts a dense purple color as well as notes of beef blood, creme de cassis, licorice, incense and spring flowers. It looks more like a 2-year-old wine than one that has seen its tenth birthday. Mouth-coating, unctuously textured, corpulent but well-delineated, this is a spectacular Proprietary Red that is even greater than I remember it in its youth. Bravo to Jayson Pahlmeyer (I believe his winemaker at the time was Erin Green) for this dynamic duo of 2004s. (RP)" (04/2014)

Explosively aromatic nose shows intense floral, blackberry, cassis and dark cherry, with a ripeness bordering on liqueur-like. Impossibly sweet and concentrated, with intense dark berry and plum flavors and an intoxicating, pungent floral quality. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Shafer "Hillside Select" Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon (100WE, 99RP, 96VN, 96WS, 95W&S). Wine Enthusiast: "A perfect score has to be considered in the context of its region. Shafer’s 2004 Hillside Select is tremendous as a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon that competes with its peers at the highest levels. It’s always a fabulous wine, but in warm 2004, Shafer’s amphitheater vineyard sheltered the grapes, ripening them to perfection yet protecting the “iron fist in a velvet glove” structure that André Tchelistcheff defined as Stags Leap. This 100% Cabernet is tremendous in cassis, black currant and mocha flavors, and the 100% new French oak provides perfect additions of smoke and caramel. It’s soft and gorgeous enough to drink now, and should age well in a cool cellar for the next 20 years." (03/2009)
