It’s the latter component that surprised me, because whatever American oak they’re using is wonde

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Chianti Classico Riserva Ducale Oro remains the bellwether wine from this historic property. This fresh, vibrant Barbaresco explodes from the glass with a gorgeous array of macerated dark cherries, spices, menthol, pine, minerals and toasted oak. The wine reveals superb depth and clarity, with awesome finesse. This is the finest wine I can recall tasting here in many a year. Camp Gros is made from a parcel adjacent to Rabaja. Bid on this bottle of 2004 Chris Ringland F.U. Shiraz (99RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 F.U. Shiraz (200 cases) is similarly brooding and liqueur-like. It spent 30 months in new French oak hogsheads and offers a compelling bouquet of toasty oak, pencil lead, mineral, blueberry, and blackberry. Lighter on its feet than The Wine with a more forward personality, it has layers of flavor, savory fruit, and enough silky tannin to evolve for a decade. Drink it from 2014 to 2034. (JM)" (02/2009)

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2004 J-F Mugnier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Fuées" (91BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "There is a hint of herbal tea (but no green meanies) on the pure, elegant and now mostly mature red berry fruit, spice and discreet floral-scented nose. The lilting, precise and energetic middle weight flavors exude a fine bead of minerality before concluding in an utterly delicious, balanced and solidly persistent finish. For my taste this elegant and refined effort has arrived on the front edge of its peak drinkability. This is a very fine 2004 and a clear success for the vintage." (07/2015)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac (94JS, 94W&S, 93VN, 93WS, 92ST, 90RP). James Suckling: "I drank this 2004 Chateau Mouton-Rothschild the other night at home with some wine producers. I decanted it only right before serving - a mistake made while concentrating on the cooking food. On the nose there were coffee and chocolate aromas with hints of vanilla. It was super fruity, and its medium body was coupled with beautifully soft tannins. This is just coming around now and it's very New World in style. Overall, a much overlooked vintage from Mouton." 2004 Domaine William Fevre Chablis Grand Cru "Les Preuses"
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Domaine William Fevre Chablis Grand Cru "Les Preuses" (95BH, 94RP, 93ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This brilliant effort is evolving very much along the lines that I originally expected that it might and it has arrived on the front edge of full maturity. The elegant and highly complex nose is wonderfully classy and it clearly speaks of its origins as do the rich yet delineated medium-bodied flavors brimming with a subtle minerality and outstanding length. About the only nit is that the finish of this most recent bottle is perhaps not quite as persistent as I remember but overall, this is flat out terrific. I would continue to hold this for another year or two but it would be no vinous crime to dip into this now. Consistent notes." (05/2011)

2004 Robert Foley Napa Valley Petite Sirah
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Robert Foley Napa Valley Petite Sirah (95RP, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Petite Sirah is one of the most compelling examples of this varietal that I have ever tasted from California. As longtime readers know, I believe this is the most underrated varietal in California, but it’s not exactly a fun wine to drink young. After 10-15 years of age, it often reveals more character than many more expensive reds. Bob Foley has fashioned a true blockbuster that should age for three decades, but should be accessible when young given its abundant extraction and richness. The softness of the tannins and the wine’s silky, voluptuous character suggest it can be consumed over the next 2-3 years, but it will not reveal many secondary nuances for 5-6 more years. An inky/black/ruby color is accompanied by notes of incense, fruit cake, blackberries, chocolate, and roasted coffee. Although it has huge body as well as massive concentration, nothing is out

This is a great, great 2004 – a huge success for Christian Seely in a more challenging growing season than the ensuing one. A soaring blackberry, blueberry, cedar and wild strawberry nose with a touch of violets. Very fine tannins on the full-bodied palate, superb focus, elegant and feminine with a touch of burst toast and graphite on the finish. Great persistency. Quintessential Pauillac – at its finest. Crushed cassis, licorice and minerals on the nose. Pure, primary black fruit and mineral flavors framed and enlivened by surprisingly juicy acidity. Very firmly built, vibrant wine with the structure to reward aging. Winemaker Bob Foley noted that Pride's Cabernet had better than usual acidity in 2004, and certainly more than in 2003 or 2002; the harvest here lasted into early November. (ST)" (06/2007)

2004 Merus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This boutique blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec is a broodingly backward, formidably endowed, full throttle, pedal-to-the-metal style of Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2004’s 15.5% alcohol is well-concealed by the wine’s wealth of fruit and glycerin. This full-bodied beauty is black as a moonless night. It exhibits abundant notes of plums, blackberries and creme de cassis as well as nicely integrated wood, acidity and tannin. It will offer an impeccable well-made, stunningly rich, complex, two-fisted glass of Cabernet Sauvignon over the next 15+ years. 96+ (RP)" (04/2014)

Its plushness is balanced by just the right measure of supportive acidity, and it avoids even the least bit of heaviness while being fat and full on the palate. Wine Enthusiast: "This luscious Pinot shows the appellation’s ability to perfectly ripen the fruit while maintaining complete balance. The flavors are of cherries, raspberries, currants and cola, with nuances of licorice and gingerbread, yet for all that the finish is totally dry. So powerful is the wine in itself that it easily shoulders the 100% new French oak, which pushes the richness into a smoky, ne plus ultra territory. 2004 Meyer "Bonny's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2004 Meyer "Bonny's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. You may remember Bonny's Vineyard from a Silver Oak bottling that spanned some years. Now, Justin and Bonny Meyer's son Matt with his wife Karen make wine in Mendocino County. More about the vineyard from the winery: "The Bonny’s Vineyard Cabernet was one of the country's first and deservedly best examples of a single vineyard designate wine. Over thirty years ago these precious four acres stood out among thousands that Justin Meyer cultivated in the heart of the Napa Valley's Oakville Appellation. The old creek which runs nearby deposited gravely soils which cause the vines to struggle and produce the most beautifully intense fruit imaginable. This is not a wine we make, but rather one we watch develop itself during its five year ageing process. Whereas we are actively developing the style of the Syrah, when it comes to the Bonny’s we stay true to the techniques Justin Meyer used many years ago.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A selection of the best parcels, the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Poetry is a winner. Much less evolved and built for the longer haul, it possesses plenty of black currant fruit, a rich, full-bodied mouthfeel, and a long, opulent finish. Complex and exceptionally pure with stunning balance, it is a quintessential example of Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon. Close to full maturity, it promises to be even better in 2-3 years, and last for two decades. This brilliant winery that burst on the scene with a bevy of high quality wines has turned out impressive wines in this vintage. (RP)" (04/2014)

2004 Chateau Montelena "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2004 Chateau Montelena "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (95RP, 95VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A classic, old style Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, Montelena’s 2004 reveals beautiful purity along with lots of creme de cassis fruit, a full-bodied mouthfeel, and a long finish. By Montelena standards, it is a bit more powerful than usual (14.1% alcohol). These wines have an uncanny ability to age for 2-3 decades, and while the 2004 is slightly more forward and evolved than other vintages have been (2001 and 2002), it should last for 20-25 years. 2004 Littorai "Summa" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2004 Littorai "Summa" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. Littorai derives their unique sustainable farming techniques from the fertile cross currents of permaculture, agro-ecology and the agricultural philosophy of Rudolf Steiner, the father of biodynamic farming. In addition to using only natural materials, they avoid all fertilizers. Estate produced compost is their “fertilizer” of choice. For those sites which they do not farm themselves, they use by-the-acre contracts to insure maximum quality and vineyard control, and they strongly encourage all of their farmer-partners to use only organic materials. They do not employ farm certification systems, as they believe that the true motivation for engaging in sustainable farming practices should not be for marketing purposes, but should be only for the good of the land, for the good of those who work it and for the future generations to whom it truly belongs. Summa is a 4.25-acre vineyard located across the street from

Bid on this bottle of 2004 Lucien Le Moine Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru (95WS, (91-93BH), 91ST). Wine Spectator: "A core of black currant and raspberry offsets the dense tannins in this intense yet elegant '04. Vibrant and long, with the tannins emerging on the finish. Tightly wound. 2004 Carlisle "Carlisle Vineyard" Russian River Valley Zinfandel
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2004 Carlisle "Carlisle Vineyard" Russian River Valley Zinfandel (93RP, 91ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: " The 2004 Zinfandel Carlisle Vineyard boasts a deep ruby/purple color as well as a beautiful, sweet bouquet of sandalwood, white chocolate, crushed pepper, black raspberries, black currants, garrigue, and spicy oak. This is a seriously rich wine that displays a good underpinning of acidity, which provides a mineral-like character. It should drink well for 7-8 years. The alcohol levels in the 2004 Zinfandels range between 15.5% and 16.5%, but much to Mike Officer’s credit, there is no trace of hotness in these wines. Readers should not hesitate to get on Carlisle’s mailing list before the world discovers what compelling beverages are being produced here. (RP)" (12/2006)

2004 Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes (93ST). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep red. Superripe, slightly decadent aromas of red cherry, leather and underbrush. Plush, fat and large-scaled; a full-blown expression of soil, with notes of smoke and game. This boasts extraordinary sweetness for the vintage, remaining just this side of over the top. Just a hint of nut skin on the finish. Very sexy wine. (ST)" (03/2007)

Wine Enthusiast: " *Cellar Selection* Among California's First Growth Pinots, Hanzell's ‘04 is marked by a full-bodied, austere density that demands time in the cellar. It's a very dry, fairly tannic wine, rich in ripe crushed black cherry, red cherry candy, tobacco, cedar, and spicebox aromas and flavors that are impeccably balanced. Really defines the terroir of the estate, and should develop well. " (02/2008)
