2004 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les Vaucrains"
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les Vaucrains" (91ST, 90BH). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep red. Medicinal dark cherry, leather and earth on the nose. Fatter and silkier on entry than the Pruliers, then quite sappy and firm, with dark raspberry, mineral, dark chocolate and menthol flavors. Here the dusty tannins are quite even and also hit the palate late. Finishes with strong, fresh fruit and excellent aromatic persistence. Very typical Vaucrains in its power but this wine is less locked up today than the Pruliers. Gouges notes that a percentage of ten-year-old vines adds a softer, more feminine element to this otherwise powerful wine (1996 was the last vintage made entirely with old vines). (ST)" (03/2007)

2004 Giaconda "Aeolia" Roussanne Beechworth Victoria
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Giaconda "Aeolia" Roussanne Beechworth Victoria (94RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The stunning 2004 Roussanne Aeolia is made from 100% Roussanne, put through 100% malolactic, and aged 11 months in French oak, of which 15% is new. Undeniably Australia’s most extraordinary Roussanne, it has an aromatic, flavor, and textural kinship with the profound Beaucastel Roussanne Vieilles Vignes. Waxy honeysuckle characteristics interwoven with marmalade notes jump from the glass of this full-bodied, unctuously-textured Roussanne. It stops just short of being over the top and too heady because of good underlying acidity as well as tremendous purity and presence. Although Roussanne can do remarkable things in its evolution, it can be a schizophrenic wine, so I would opt for drinking this beauty over the next several years. (RP)" (10/2005)

2004 Maybach Family "Materium" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Maybach Family "Materium" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon (95RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Named after the famed luxury car, Maybach has none other than Thomas Brown as its winemaker, who produced this debut vintage of 340 cases from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from a single-parcel on the Silverado Trail in the Oakville sector. This is a deadly serious wine, and when compared to the price of a Maybach car, a great value. A beautifully sculptured style of wine with deep purple color, with a sweet nose of creme de cassis, pain grille, spice box, and loamy soil notes, the wine has fabulous intensity, great purity (as one might expect given the winemaker), sweet silky tannins, and a terrific finish of close to 50 seconds. This is a stunning opening salvo from the Maybach family, and a wine that should age easily for 20-25 years. (RP)" (12/2007)

2004 Jacquesson "Champs Cain" Avize Extra Brut Champagne
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2004 Jacquesson "Champs Cain" Avize Extra Brut Champagne (96RP, 95VN, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From vines planted in 1962, the single-vineyard Jacquesson 2004 Extra Brut Avize Champ Cain leads with an utterly remarkable nose. A greenhouse-like profusion of leafing and flowering things is imposed over sea breeze, with jasmine; musky narcissus; nose-prickling spice as if from some exotic orchid; iodine-tinged toasted shrimp shells; and toasted grain all pungently present and anticipating the elusive complexity delivered on a caressingly polished yet consummately refreshing and almost ethereally delicate palate. Over time, the sense of creaminess and the refinement of bubbles became more evident, along with a contrasting impression of enhanced piquancy, suggesting hops and lentil sprouts, all in the context of remarkable poise and transparency to nuance. The endlessly fascinating finish remains infectiously juicy and subtly yet mouthwateringly sal

2004 Levy & McClellan Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (OWC)
Bid on this bottle of 2004 Levy & McClellan Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (OWC - 99RP, 95WS, 93ST) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The exquisite 2004 Proprietary Red Wine offers up notes of lead pencil shavings, licorice, Asian plum sauce, black currants and a hint of underlying minerality. Full-bodied yet beautifully silky and seductive, it has shed most of its tannins, resulting in a complex, singular red wine of majestic proportions. The finish is among the longest of any 2004 I tasted, and gorgeous levels of fruit and extract hide any notions of new oak. This cuvee tastes like a hypothetical blend of a great Pauillac, Pessac-Leognan and Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. It should drink well over the next two decades. Bob Levy, long-time winemaker at Harlan Estate, and his wife, Martha McClellan, who has done incredible consulting work at such top-flight wineries as Sloan and Blankiet, have their own small project whose results to date have been magnificent wines. Wine Spectator: "A fine and lacy mousse is draped over a firm frame of well-integrated acidity, belying the complexity of this elegant Champagne. A delicately woven tapestry of black currant, piecrust, chalk, spring blossom and lemon zest flavors ends with a lasting note of smoke-tinged minerality. Drink now through 2029. (AN)" (12/2014)

2004 Quilceda Creek Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2004 Quilceda Creek Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (98RP, 95ST, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Also offering off-the-charts richness, with a flamboyant, hedonistic profile, the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon (96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc) possesses spice-laced aromas and flavors of cassis, smoke tobacco, roasted meats, dried licorice and wild herbs that are to die for. Full-bodied, incredibly layered, rich and textured it has no hard edges, masses of tannin and a finish that won’t quit. I’ve been lucky enough to taste this cuvee three times (rated 96 and 97) in the past handful of weeks and this was the best showing yet. From a cool vintage, it is still youthful and vibrant, and will continue to shine for another 15+ years. (JD)" (06/2013)

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2004 Zind Humbrecht "Rangen de Thann-Clos St. Urbain" Gewurztraminer Alsace. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "“You have to forget everything you know about Gewurztraminer and imagine you have never tasted this variety before in your life,” said Humbrecht before pouring me a deeply-colored glass of his 2004 Gewurztraminer Rangen Clos Saint Urbain, another of those that went entirely dry, in this case finishing with 15.6% alcohol. In its outrageous intensity of smoky, peaty, flinty aromas; in its voluminous and saline (oceanic in both senses!), peaty, positively tannic palate; and in a finish of such brute force that not even Humbrecht could resist reaching for volcanic (and not just geological) metaphors, this is (again in his words) “only for people who can handle so much terroir.” (DS)" (02/2008)

2004 Stony Hill Napa Valley Chardonnay
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2004 Stony Hill Napa Valley Chardonnay. This all-estate Chardonnay came from Stony Hill's vineyards in St. Helena and was fermented in 5- to 25-year-old barrles and aged for 10 months in neutral French oak, which rounded out the edges of this no Malo wine. With six years of bottle age, the wine has started to show mature fruit--roasted pears and citrus--with minerals at the fore. Lovely and rich, but with plenty of freshness left, this wine would be fantastic with risotto with spring peas or morels.

2004 Achával Ferrer Finca Mirador Malbec
Bid on this bottle of 2004 Achával Ferrer Finca Mirador Malbec (96RP, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The glories of Achaval-Ferrer are the limited production single-vineyard Malbecs. Only 125 cases were made of the 2004 Finca Mirador Malbec. It was produced from minuscule yields of 0.75 tons per acre and was aged for 14 months in 100% new French oak. Dark ruby-colored, it has an enthrallingly exotic nose of pain grille, truffle, wild blueberry, and black cherry. This leads to a medium-bodied, elegant Malbec with lovely, complex flavors, superb balance, and a long, pure finish. It cleverly manages to conceal enough structure for this wine to evolve for 6-8 years and drink well through 2030. (JSM)" (12/2007)

It cuts a bigger swath across the palate than the Merlot, but with no hard edges. Deeply textured and multidimensional with loads of fruit as well as a flawless integration of acidity, alcohol, tannin and wood, this medium to full-bodied, classic Blankiet should continue to drink well for another 15-20 years. Possessing a steak tartare, olive (and caper), cured meat, spice and sweet black-fruit-filled bouquet, it’s exuberant and sexy on the palate, with bright acidity (the only hint of the cooler vintage), fine tannin and a great finish. Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2004 Catena Zapata "Nicolás Catena Zapata" Cabernet Sauvignon Mendoza (98RP, 92VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Catena Zapata’s flagship is the Nicolas Catena Zapata, a Cabernet Sauvignon-Malbec blend. The 2004 Nicolas Catena Zapata is composed of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon and 28% Malbec. It spent 18 months in 100% new French oak. A saturated black purple in color, it has an aristocratic perfume of pain grille, mineral, espresso, saddle leather, cassis, black currant, and black raspberry. Opulently textured, complex, ripe, and sweet on the palate, it maintains a sense of elegance as well as power. It demands 10-15 years of further cellaring and should still be providing pleasure at age 50. It strikes me as being Argentina’s equivalent of a great vintage of Lafite-Rothschild. 98+ Points (JSM)" (12/2007)

Pretty, fresh blackberry and warm cherry aromas on the nose with fragrant nuances of rose petals and Chinese five spice. The tannins are firm yet finely grained and accessible. A crisp backbone of acidity provides freshness and perfect balance to the rich, ripe fruit flavours. The style straddles that wonderfully fine line between elegance and decadence. Very long finish with lingering notes of black truffles. Drinking now but will certainly open and soften with 4-5 years more cellaring. Should continue to develop through 2020+. (LPB)" (03/2009)

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2004 Conterno Fantino "Mosconi" Barolo (94ST, 92WS, 91VN). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep red. Musky strawberry, blackberry, violet and sexy oak on the nose. Superripe and deep but youthfully backward, showing more cedar and tobacco and less flowers than the Ginestra. A big, rich, chewy wine that's currently showing more oakiness in the middle palate and wood tannins on the finish than the Ginestra. Seems almost old-fashioned in the context of this producer's wines. Incidentally, although Conterno replanted half of the vineyard in 1998, this 2004 was made from only the old vines. Its inky/blue/purple hue is accompanied by aromas and flavors of creme de cassis, smoked meats, melted licorice, coffee beans, graphite, and bacon fat. This possesses lots of personality and while the Valmur, for all its purity and grace makes for an understated effort, the Vaudésir is far more expressive, indeed showier though by no means vulgar or common. Of the 2004 Laurel Glen Sonoma Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon,Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar writes: "Deep ruby. Pungent, mineral-accented cherry and cassis aromas, with herb and espresso accents. Ripe dark fruit flavors are complicated by iron and sassafras, with a deeper, earthier quality coming on with air. A brooding, deeply concentrated wine, with impressive power and lingering notes of dark cherry and candied licorice. Give this some air. (ST)" (05/2007)

2004 Pieve Santa Restituta (Gaja) "Rennina" Brunello di Montalcino
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Pieve Santa Restituta (Gaja) "Rennina" Brunello di Montalcino (95ST, 95WE, 93RP, 92WS). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep red. Powerful yet elegant nose shows more berries and minerals and less oak than the Sugarille; this is downright Musigny-like. Then silky, suave and graceful on the palate, with compelling inner-mouth floral perfume and a wonderfully pliant texture. If anything, this wine is even more intense on the suavely tannic, extremely long finish than in the middle, as its underlying minerality gives it outstanding grip and finesse. This is made from a blend of sites while Sugarille is from a single vineyard, but it was this wine that spun my head around when I tasted the two bottles side by side. (ST)" (07/2009)

2004 Rudd "Oakville Estate" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Rudd "Oakville Estate" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (96RP, 93ST, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A sensational proprietary red wine blend from Leslie Rudd, this 2004 is composed of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, 8% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc from a top-notch vineyard on the Oakville Crossroads sandwiched between Screaming Eagle and Plumpjack. Flawlessly assembled with not a hard edge to be found, it boasts a dense ruby/purple color, copious notes of graphite and black fruits, sweet tannin, a voluptuous, opulent texture, and terrific purity as well as freshness. This gorgeous, multi-dimensional, full-bodied 2004 is drinkable now, yet has the stuffing and length to last for 15-20 more years. (RP)" (04/2014)
