2004 Il Poggione "Vigna Paganelli" Brunello di Montalcino Riserva
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2004 Il Poggione "Vigna Paganelli" Brunello di Montalcino Riserva (96RP, 95ST, 95VN, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Paganelli emerges from the glass with masses of scorched earth, leather, tar, licorice, menthol and dark fruit. The Riserva shows a touch more inner sweetness, richness and depth in its fruit than the regular bottling, plus a bit more French oak as well. For now, the Riserva is quite reticent and requires air, but with time its awesome richness and power come through in spades. This dark, brooding and authoritative Riserva from Il Poggione is simply gorgeous... Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039 (AG)" (04/2010)

2004 Terredora di Paolo "Pago dei Fusi" Taurasi DOCG
Bid on this 12-bottle lot of 2004 Terredora di Paolo "Pago dei Fusi" Taurasi DOCG (95RP, 91WS, 90ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Taurasi Pago dei Fusi is a single-vineyard wine that has previously not been available in the US. Hopefully that will change, as this is a rock-star wine. The Pago dei Fusi shows a touch more depth and inner sweetness than the regular bottling, but without abandoning what is essentially a classic style. Dark cherries, plums, tobacco, licorice and incense are woven together in a fabric of superb richness. The finish is long, precise and exceptionally pure, with crystalline, mineral notes that add freshness. This site, which was once under water, is rich in marine deposits that confer a beautiful sense of vibrancy to the wine. The integration of the oak is superb. Readers will not want to miss this gem! 1999 Pio Cesare "Ornato" Barolo
Bid on this bottle of 1999 Pio Cesare "Ornato" Barolo (93ST, 92RP, 92WS, 91WE). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium red. Very closed nose hint at crystallized dark fruits, menthol, marzipan and minerals. Distinctly closed in the mouth, conveying great energy and juiciness but much less fat and early complexity than the 2000. Following the 2000s, this very rich wine comes across as a bit lean today, as it's passing through a sullen stage. Completely different in style from the 2000 and 2001 examples. But this is classic Barolo with great cut and lift, in need of at least a decade of patience. (ST) 93+" (11/2004)

1971 Luigi Einaudi Barolo
Bid on this bottle of 1971 Luigi Einaudi Barolo. It all began in 1897, when 23-year-old Luigi Einaudi (who was to become Italy’s first President in 1948) purchased the first of the Einaudi estates (Poderi) at San Giacomo, near Dogliani, heart of Dolcetto country. Here, Professor Einaudi resided in-between his academic work and the numerous activities as a financial writer and journalist. In spite of the magnitude and multiplicity of his interests, Luigi Einaudi personally implemented the finest, most up-to-date wine cultivation methods and equipment. This is alive and kicking after more than 40 years in the bottle!

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2011 Aldo Conterno "Bussia" Barolo (94RP, 94WE, 93JS, 93W&S). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I am extremely impressed by Aldo Conterno's 2011 Barolo Bussia. The wine exhibits magnificent harmony and integrity, especially considering the warm temperatures of this vintage. It is elegant inside and out with a patina of aromatic cleanliness and sharp focus that sets it apart. The tannins are extremely fine, silky and polished. The wine excels at presenting the fine and elegant details that the mighty Nebbiolo grape can offer. It puts a magnifying glass to the grape and reveals that there are no blemishes to be found. Bid on this bottle of 1999 Vietti "Lazzarito" Barolo (94ST, 93WS, 92RP, 92VN). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Impressive dark red-ruby color. High-pitched, complex, slightly roasted nose combines currant, minerals, violet, earth and sweet, spicy oak. Minerally, firm and perfumed in the mouth, with lovely clarity of flavor. I found a powerful stony element that reminded me of Chateauneuf du Pape. Finishes with huge but horizontal tannins and great aromatic persistence. This may prove to be the best vintage yet for this bottling, although the infant 2001 already offers extraordinary sweetness and concentration, with great thickness and extract and fruit of steel. 94+ (ST)" (11/2002)

2007 Giuseppe e Figlio Mascarello "Monprivato" Barolo
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2007 Giuseppe e Figlio Mascarello "Monprivato" Barolo (97RP, 96WS, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Barolo Monprivato is stunningly beautiful. Monprivato is seldom this rich when it is young. It is most often intensely aromatic, mid-weight and frequently out of balance, especially right after bottling. The 2007 is none of those things. It is a rich, dramatic wine endowed with tons of fruit and a sweeping, enveloping personality. It is also primary and at the beginning of what is likely to be a long, long life. Despite its seeming fragility, Monprivato is one of the most long-lived of all Baroli, even in its weakest vintages. Drink from 2017-2017 (AG)" (10/2011)

From the importer: "Founded in 1974, the winery is now an established reality in the panorama of world-class wines from Piedmont, with an outstanding quality production. It is located in the hills of La Morra, in the heart of the Langhe, in a wonderful position: five hundred meters above sea level, with the view sweeping over the plains of Cuneo and Turin as far as the beautiful landscape of the Alps, from the Maritimes to the Monte Rosa. The pre-existing farmhouse, dating back to the middle of the XVIII century – as shown by the ancient beams discovered in the tasting room- has been completely renovated, new vineyards have been added to the original estate, the old vines have been replaced by new plants. Each intervention was carried out in respect for tradition, in such a way as to create continuity between past and present. The sparing use of technology without altering the natural processes, optimizes the production process

Of the 1996 Elio Altare Barolo,Vinous writes: "Elio Altare's 1996 Barolo is fabulous. The density, power and texture are clearly those of a wine from the modern school, and yet the flavor profile is surprisingly classic, with plenty of tar, licorice, tobacco and rose petal nuances. Vivid and deeply expressive the 1996 is in a great place to deliver fine drinking for another 5-10 years. The 50% new oak is barely perceptible. This is a superb showing for a straight Barolo. The wine is remarkable for its density, richness and concentration, all of which have been achieved while maintaining clarity and freshness. The French oak is beautifully integrated in this sumptuous, generous Brunello. Suggestions of flowers and spices add notes of brightness on the finish. It boasts an enticing palate presence and a uniquely intense personality. The classic Monprivato notes of ripe cherries, roses, minerals, flowers and herbs are present... In 2003 Mascarello was more severe than normal in his green harvesting of the vineyard as he wanted to lighten the load on his plants to reduce their stress. He was also helped considerably by the compact, moisture-retentive soils. Sumptuous in the mouth, full-bodied, with an exotic overripe character, this dense, thick Barolo tastes sweet because of the high glycerin levels. 1986 Giuseppe Quintarelli "Amabile" Veneto Bianco
Bid on this bottle of 1986 Giuseppe Quintarelli "Amabile" Veneto Bianco. This botrytis-affected dessert wine is perhaps the finest in Italy, and is only made in vintages with perfect conditions. It is a Garganega-based blend (the white grape also found in Soave) and is released from Quintareli fairly long after harvest and bottling. The one-and-only Giuseppe Quintarelli was a legend among winmakers and critics alike. According to Antonio Galloni in Wine Advocate: "Giuseppe Quintarelli's passing earlier this year left a huge void in the wine world that isn't likely to ever be filled. Veneto is a fascinating region with tons of untapped potential, yet only one or two other producers have managed to make hypnotic, life-changing wines such as those that are found in these tiny cramped cellars in Negrar. At their best, Quintarelli's wines had no equal." (12/2011)

2009 Brigaldara "Case Vecie" Amarone della Valpolicella
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Brigaldara "Case Vecie" Amarone della Valpolicella (95RP, 93VN, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The impressive 2009 Amarone della Valpolicella Case Vecie is a protagonist of the vintage thanks to the immense clarity and purity of fruit that is put on proud display. One step beyond those pretty fruit tones are more evolved and elaborate tones of leather, tar, resin, licorice and grilled herb. The wine is aged for four years in both barrique and botte grande and the oak has positively impacted the smooth, luscious texture of the mouthfeel. This is an object of real beauty. The tannins are dense and assertive now, and a sweet fruit component balances the finish, ending with a long aftertaste. Best from 2013 through 2027. (BS)" (08/2011)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1997 Bruno Giacosa "Asili" Barbaresco (94RP, (91-94ST), 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1997 Barbaresco Asili has developed stunningly since it was first tasted, a typical characteristic of Giacosa's wines. Surprisingly precocious and evolved for a wine from this estate, it possesses a dark ruby color with an amber edge, and abundant quantities of tobacco, cherry liqueur, incense, spice box, and licorice in its flamboyant nose. It is like candy, fleshy, full-bodied, unctuous, and silky. (RP)" (06/2001)

2003 Giacomo Conterno "Cascina Francia" Barolo
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2003 Giacomo Conterno "Cascina Francia" Barolo (94RP, 94VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Barolo Cascina Francia is a remarkable wine for the vintage. This deep, powerful Barolo reveals awesome richness and an almost liqueur-like quality to its fruit that is balanced by the chalky mineral notes that provide freshness on the finish and help convey an impression of notable balance. In 2003 there is no Monfortino, and the Cascina Francia surely benefits from the addition of that juice which is mostly felt in the wine’s depth. Resisting the temptation to harvest too early, Roberto Conterno waited until October 8 to start picking in his Cascina Francia vineyard, long after most producers had already brought the fruit in. He had the benefit of the late September rains that helped restore at least a little freshness to the fruit, and as a result his 2003 Cascina Francia doesn’t have the aggressive tannins that plague so many wines. The balance suggests you could enjoy this now, but there is a firm underlying structure. The terrific finish echoes the fruit and ups the ante with a chalky, minerally vein. Bid on this bottle of 1958 Cantina Mascarello "Cannubi" Barolo Riserva. From the iconic winemaker who carried the torch for Barolo traditionalism while the international style slowly took hold with many of his contemporaries. Wine Spectator: "A staunch and outspoken traditionalist to the end, Mascarello refused to abandon the winemaking methods taught him by his father, who started making Barolo in 1918. His small family winery, in the heart of Barolo, stuck with techniques that encompassed low vineyard yields, fermentation in cement tanks, a long maceration and the use of large oak or chestnut casks to age the wine."
