2006 Clerico "Pajana" Barolo
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2006 Clerico "Pajana" Barolo (96RP, 93JS, 93ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Barolo Pajana reveals incredible aromatic complexity and intensity, something this particular site isn’t always capable of. There is lovely definition to be found as this classic feeling, mid-weight Pajana opens up in the glass. Layers of ripe dark fruit, spices, flowers, licorice and minerals develop seamlessly through to the close. I am floored by the wine’s volume, depth and length. Quite simply, this is a magnificent effort from Clerico. (AG)" (02/2010)

2004 Elio Altare Barolo
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Elio Altare Barolo (93AG, 92WE, 92WS, 90ST). Antonio Galloni: "Altare’s 2004 Barolo is a sweet, dense wine loaded with considerable fruit that hides the tannic structure that lurks underneath. Licorice, menthol, baking spices and dark red fruit all make an appearance in this superbly well-proportioned Barolo. Sweet, ripe tannins, and a lingering note of mint give this wine a beautiful sense of lift on the finish. Altare’s Barolo was once quite representative of La Morra, but the recent addition of vineyards in Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga in the blend make this a very different – dare I say it – almost traditional expression of Barolo. It is a lovely wine and is not to be missed. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2024. " (12/2007)

Full-bodied and powerful, with chewy tannins and a long, long finish. Massive yet balanced. What a wine. The greatest Saffredi ever made. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Alicante. Better than previously reviewed. Best after 2012." (10/2007)

2006 Felsina "Rancia" Chianti Classico Riserva
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2006 Felsina "Rancia" Chianti Classico Riserva (96RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia is another of the truly great wines in this tasting. It is most similar in style to the 2001 for its power, but also has some of the aromatic finesse and complexity of the 2004. Layers of fruit build to the explosive, huge finish. Today the 2006 is big, implosive and tightly wound, but it will be absolutely gorgeous in another few years. Actually, it already is. Since its release a few years ago, the 2006 has continued to move towards a more refined expression of Sangiovese while maintaining all of the structure it showed as a young wine. (AG)" (06/2012)

2001 Fontanafredda Barolo Lazzarito
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2001 Fontanafredda Barolo Lazzarito (94W&S, 92AG, 92RP, 90WS). Wine & Spirits: "Lazzarito comes from La Delizia Vineyard located just outside the village of Serralunga. The nebbiolo vines here grow in sedimentary marine soils mixed with calcareous marl, and the resulting wines are textbook examples of the powerful structure associated with Barolo from Serralunga. This 2001 harnesses that power in a seamless way, the tannin providing a firm foundation for the interplay of punchy cherry flavors and fragrant porcini earthiness. After a day of air, the wine grows more expressive and becomes a precise, clean arc of flavor that lasts. Completely satisfying, this will only get better with time. Buy three bottles: two for the cellar and one for grilled rack of lamb." (12/2007)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2007 Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona "Pianrosso" Brunello di Montalcino (96JS, 93RP, 92AG, 92WS, 91ST). James Suckling: "Complex aromas of red fruits, flowers and fresh mushrooms follow through to a full body, with ultra-fine tannins and intense fruit and bright acidity. Goes on for a long, long time. So juicy and fruity. Hints of bitter lemon rind." (01/2012)

2007 Fontodi "Vigna del Sorbo" Chianti Classico Riserva
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2007 Fontodi "Vigna del Sorbo" Chianti Classico Riserva (95JS, 95RP, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Chianti Classico Riserva Vigna del Sorbo is a wine that expresses a contemporary vision of what Chianti Classico can be but without ever fully abandoning its roots. The single-vineyard Vigna del Sorbo adds 10% Cabernet Sauvignon (planted on Sangiovese rootstocks) to the Sangiovese. Texturally it is classic Sangiovese with the fine, sweet tannins that are the hallmark of the vintage, while the Cabernet adds a sepia-hued dimension to the fruit and an element of greater richness in the body, but without dominating the aromatic or flavor profile. The radiant warmth of Panzano doesn’t hurt either, as the fruit is gloriously ripe and soft in this vintage. Everything is beautifully in balance, including the oak, which is barely perceptible. Today the Vigna del Sorbo is very young. It should start to be expressive around age ten and continue to drink

2007 Felsina "Rancia" Chianti Classico Riserva
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2007 Felsina "Rancia" Chianti Classico Riserva (96RP, 92ST, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia is another dazzling wine. This is a vintage of overt, sumptuous fruit and pure sexiness. Despite its richness, the 2007 never loses its sense of structure, but in this vintage the tannins are nearly buried by the huge fruit. Today the 2007 comes across as a hypothetical blend of the 2004 and 2006, with the finesse of the former and the size of the latter. Not a bad combination, to put it mildly. In the glass the wine is alive, vibrant and totally captivating. (AG)" (06/2012)

Wine Spectator: "Dark purple in color, with amazing aromas of blackberry, currant, mineral and flowers. Full-bodied, with supersilky tannins that are seamless and refined. Goes on and on. Coats every millimeter of the palate. So fine and complex. This is from a new estate. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best after 2012." (10/2007)

2007 Isole e Olena "Cepparello" Toscana
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2007 Isole e Olena "Cepparello" Toscana (96RP, 93ST, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Cepparello comes across as rich, round and totally seductive in this tasting. Stylistically, it shares many attributes with the 1990 and 1997, although in my view it is more elegant than those wines. There is an immediacy about the 2007 that is highly appealing, and which will make the wine accessible relatively early. Layers of fruit build beautifully to an exciting crescendo of aromas and flavors. This is an undeniably sexy Cepparello. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027 ... The flagship Cepparello is 100% Sangiovese aged in French oak barrels. This nearly complete vertical charts the history of one of Tuscany’s most compelling wines. The first Cepparellos were vinified in cement. The cellar was heated to induce malolactic fermentation and the wines were subsequently aged roughly equal parts Slavonian oak casks and smaller French oak barriques, with a dollop o

2004 Falesco "Marciliano" Cabernet Umbria (1.5)
Bid on this magnum of 2004 Falesco "Marciliano" Cabernet Umbria (1.5). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Marciliano (70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Cabernet Franc) is made in a similarly powerful, structured style as the Montiano. Unfortunately it doesn't have that wine's core of fruit and I don't see it ever becoming an especially generous wine. The Cabernet Franc character is also surprisingly absent in this wine. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2016. (AG)" (02/2008)

2008 Domenico Clerico "Ciabot Mentin" Barolo
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2008 Domenico Clerico "Ciabot Mentin" Barolo (96ST, 93JS, 92RP, 92WS). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(Clerico is no longer using Ginestra on the label as of 2007: a change in the law recognized numerous crus, including Ginestra, but since many other growers use Ginestra on their labels, Clerico decided to name this wine after his own parcel): Medium red. Deeper and richer on the nose than the Pajana, with scents of redcurrant, mocha, dried flowers and earth. Wonderfully deep, layered and sweet; lush but with good limestone lift. This floods the palate with flavor and lingers with exceptional purity and persistence. " (10/2011)

1990 Parusso "Bussia" Barolo (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum of 1990 Parusso "Bussia" Barolo (1.5L) (95RP, 94AG). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 Barolo Bussia appears amazingly youthful both in terms of its color and the freshness of its aromas. It was fermented in temperature-controlled cements vats and this winemaking choice has undoubtedly helped secure variety integrity. Although you do detect budding tertiary aromas, this is among the best-preserved wines I tasted from 1990. Dark cherry and blackberry are followed by candied apricot, licorice, red rose petal and dried tobacco left. I was especially impressed by the overall austerity and the silkiness of the mouthfeel. This bottle should be decanted 12 hours or more before consumption. Drink: 2014-2028. (ML)" (07/2014)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2003 Ciacci Piccolomini "Vigna di Pianrosso" Brunello di Montalcino (92RP, 91ST, 91WE, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Pianrosso is made from the estate’s oldest vineyards. It is vinified along the same line as the regular bottling, but gets a few additional months in cask prior to bottling. This full-bodied, velvety Brunello is endowed with plenty of dark fruit, smoke, iron and tar. The tannins finish big, but the wine appears to have enough depth and length on the palate to provide a good measure of balance. The Pianrosso comes across as surprisingly fresh in this vintage, which should allow it to age more gracefully, if not necessarily longer, than the normal bottling. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2018. Proprietor Paolo Bianchini is upbeat about his 2003 Brunellos. It is the first vintage in which he had the tools to perform a cold soak, which he feels was especially critical in preserving as much freshness as p

Full-bodied, with well-integrated and racy tannins. Ripe and enticing fruit on the palate. Well-crafted wine." (07/04) According to Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2000 Barolo, the regular bottling, offers a fresh and spicy nose, a medium body of good force and length, some attractive notes of leather and licorice, and a rather smooth finish for a Barolo from Serralunga." 2007 Domenico Clerico "Ciabot Mentin" Barolo
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2007 Domenico Clerico "Ciabot Mentin" Barolo (98RP, 95JS, 95ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Barolo Ciabot Mentin is one of the greatest wines I have ever tasted at this address. Deep, sensual layers of fruit flow from the glass as this full-throttle, intense Barolo reveals its profound, breathtaking personality. The 2007 shows tons of Ginestra nuance, but with extra dimensions to the fruit that literally covers every nook and cranny of the palate. Tasting this next to the 2006 is quite a comparison, as both wines are fabulous. Readers who can should be sure to own bottles of both. A side-by-side comparison is sure to be fascinating as the wines develop over the coming years. Astute readers will note the slight name change here, which is the result of new regulations that require the use of the historic vineyard name, in this case Ginestra, or a proprietary name. Call me nostalgic, but it is sad to see one of the iconic labels in Barolo disappea

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2008 Moccagatta "Bric Balin" Barbaresco (94RP, 92JS, 92ST, 92WE, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Barbaresco Bric Balin wafts from the glass with crushed flowers, dried cherries, tobacco and cedar. It is less overt than the Basarin, with the structural components playing a greater role in the wine’s balance. The energy and focus here are both attractive, while the oak seems to have come down, all of which adds up to a wine with terrific overall balance. The Bric Balin can be enjoyed with minimum cellaring, but it will require some air for the fruit to flesh out. It is a fine effort from the Minuto brothers. (AG)" (10/2011)

Nicely integrated acidity and serious ripe tannins give this Barbaresco a good structure for aging, but with its oakiness under control this wine also provides early pleasure. " (11/2011)
