1998 Domaine Meo-Camuzet Corton Grand Cru "Clos Rognet"
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1998 Domaine Meo-Camuzet Corton Grand Cru "Clos Rognet" (92BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "While it's not quite as ripe, the expressive nose reminds more than a little of the brilliant '99 with its smoke, underbrush and still notably primary fruit that slides gracefully into concentrated yet precise and very powerful mouth coating flavors that also brim with ample amounts of dry extract, all underpinned by firm but integrated tannins on the gorgeously long finish. This is a first rate '98 that doesn't quite have the sheer depth of its '99 counterpart but I would be more than happy to drink this anytime and in concert with the '99, this too is very much still on the way up." Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1998 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Les Pruliers". Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Moderately saturated medium red. Finishes with substantial, slightly tough tannins that spread out nicely on the palate. (ST)" (03/2000)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1998 Frédéric Magnien Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru "Reserve" (92RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The similarly-colored 1998 Chambertin Clos de Beze Reserve reveals baked, yet bright fruit aromas. Masculine, extremely concentrated and powerful, it possesses a highly expressive blackberry, licorice, and kirsch flavored personality. (PR)" (06/2000)

1998 Jean Raphet & Fils Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Reserve
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1998 Jean Raphet & Fils Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Reserve. According to Clive Coates: "Jean Raphet and his son Gerard are in charge at this important domaine. Some 10 percent of the stems are retained...only 5 per cent of new wood is used, but the remainder of the barrels are recent enough. ... The lineup is impressive, the atmosphere efficient, and the results can be very good: rich, full, plummy and succulent..." (Côte D'Or: A Celebration of the Great Wines of Burgundy, 1997)

1998 DRC Domaine de la Romanée Conti La Tâche Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 1998 DRC Domaine de la Romanée Conti La Tâche Grand Cru (95BH, 93ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Like all of the '98 DRC reds, the clarity is a bit cloudy and not limpid though it does not seem to affect the purity of the aromas that now display some subtle secondary hints on the stunning nose of ripe red and black fruits, oriental spices, tea and leather notes. There is superb intensity to the dense, serious and strikingly complex flavors that are underpinned by ripe tannins and huge length on the balanced, mouth coating and impressively long finish. The personality here is muscular and bold with the ripe acidity framing the flavors and wonderfully focused finale. It's worth pointing out that while this is still on the way up, I was pleasantly surprised at how approachable the '98 LT was even though there is more development potential to realize. Multiple and consistent notes. Drink from 2018+" (04/2015)

1998 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Les Vaucrains"
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1998 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Les Vaucrains" (93JG, 92ST). John Gilman: "The 1998 Vaucrains from the Chevillon family is one of the more approachable examples of the vintage for current drinking, but this does not mean that there are not still several layers of complexity still to unfold here, and it remains early days for peak drinking of this beautiful wine. The deep and utterly refined nose wafts from the glass in a blend of plums, black cherries, venison, nutskin, fresh herb tones, blossoming notes of forest floor and a discreet framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, complex and beautifully balanced, with lovely mid-palate depth, ripe, beautifully-integrated and chewy tannins, excellent focus and grip and impressive balance on the very long and soil-driven finish. Approachable today, I would be inclined to still give this wine another three or four years of bottle age and really let it get comforta

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1998 Domaine Meo-Camuzet Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru (91ST, 90WS). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good red-ruby. Aromas of cherry, licorice and spicy oak, plus a violet topnote. Rich, broad and fleshy, with impressive sweetness and volume for a young Clos Vougeot. Then finishes with fine, horizontal, palate-coating tannins. A very good showing. (ST)" (03/2001)

1998 Domaine Roumier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Cras"
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1998 Domaine Roumier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Cras" (92JG, 91ST, 90BH). John Gilman: "The 1998 les Cras is just reaching its plateau of maturity and is beginning to really drink with distinction. The bouquet is deep and à point, as it delivers a beautiful mélange of red and black cherries, chocolate, a touch of black truffle, woodsmoke, fresh herbs and a really complex base of soil that hints at the autumn leaves to come with further bottle age. On the palate the wine is fullish, deep and complex, with beautiful transparency, fine mid-palate depth, melting tannins and lovely length and grip on the bright and tangy finish. A classic bottle of Chambolle that is now entering its prime of life. Along with the 2002 and the 2000, this is a vintage of Roumier les Cras that I would reach for in the cellar for current consumption. (Drink between 2010-2030)" (06/2010)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1998 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits-Saint-Georges "Les St Georges" ((91-94ST), 92WS, 91BH). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright ruby-red. Expressive, redder aromas of redcurrant and Cuban tobacco. Very suave and very deep; bright acids give the red berry flavors terrific clarity. Wonderful intensity without excess weight. Fresh and very long; tannins are firm but not dry. The Vaucrains offers more ampleur but this is more elegant. (ST)" (03/2000)

1998 Chapoutier "L'Ermite" Ermitage Rouge (1.5L) (OWC)
Bid on this magnum lot of 1998 Chapoutier "L'Ermite" Ermitage Rouge (1.5L) (OWC - 98RP) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Chapoutier's Ermitage l'Ermite possesses a transparent character that almost allows the taster to see through the wine's multiple levels. What stands out is the liqueur of granite liquid minerality. The elegant 1998 Ermitage l'Ermite rouge is light, but exquisitely balanced, with subtle notes of smoke and black currants. The flavors unfold gently and gracefully, with nothing overstated. The power is restrained, the tannin is well-integrated, and the acidity is barely noticeable. However, the wine is fresh and beautifully delineated. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2040. (RP)" (02/2001)

Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 1998 François Jobard Meursault "Charmes" ((89-91ST)). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Spiced apple with a honeyed richness on the nose. Very rich and tactile; fatter than the Genevrieres, with thoroughly enrobed acidity giving the wine impressive sweetness and generous texture. Thoroughly ripe and long. This is evolving nicely. The crop here was just 20 hectoliters per hectare, vs. 35 for the Genevrieres, according to Jobard. (ST)" (09/2000)
