Bid on this bottle of 1998 Domaine Zind-Humbrecht "Clos St-Urbain Rangen de Thann Sélection de Grains Nobles" Riesling Grand Cru Alsace ((97-100ST), 96RP, 91WS). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Vivid aromas of orange, apricot and flint. Pure electricity in the mouth, with rapier-like flavors of flint and marmalade and incredible purity. Despite the extreme ripeness, the flavors are quintessential Riesling. Finishes sharp as a paper cut, with magical persistence. This will age for decades. A perfect combination of 11% alcohol, 130 g/l r.s. and 12 g/l acidity. (ST)" (08/1999)

Of the 1994 Joseph Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: " The 1994 boasts an inky/purple color along with a glorious nose of black raspberries, blackberries and black currants that is still somewhat primary despite nearly 18 years in bottle. The Phelps team kept this cuvee in 100% new French oak for 28 months. Its magnificent structure, intensity and purity of fruit, ripeness, balance combined with authoritative power and the magnetic appeal of this full-bodied, Bordeaux-styled wine are extraordinary. This amazing effort is just coming into its best years, and should drink well for at least another 15-20 years. (RP)" (11/2013)

1998 Domaine Lafarge Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des Chenes"
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1998 Domaine Lafarge Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des Chenes" (92RP, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Clos des Chênes vertical, the 1998 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes was one of the surprise packages within the flights of recent vintages. Frédéric Lafarge commented that this was a vintage "for those that worked hard." It has a surprisingly aromatic, almost corpulent bouquet with black plum, Hoisin and wild strawberry sprinkled with white pepper and a hint of morel mushrooms. The palate has a wonderful sense of balance, real finesse here with lace-like tannin and an exquisite, harmonious vintage that really dispels the notion of this being a difficult Burgundy vintage. Frédéric and Michel Lafarge must have worked very hard this year. (NM)" (11/2015)

1998 Giacomo Conterno "Monfortino" Barolo Riserva (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum of 1998 Giacomo Conterno "Monfortino" Barolo Riserva (1.5L) (97RP, 96VN, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1998 Barolo Riserva Monfortino is a monumental effort. A deep dark red, it opens with a huge nose of licorice, roses and cocoa, then flows onto the palate with masses of sweet, concentrated dark fruit that go on forever. Notes of mineral and leather gradually develop in the glass, adding further complexity as this great wine begins to reveal its expansive and profound personality. The 1998 is unusually open right now. As was the case with the 1997 at this stage, it should offer a brief drinking window over the next 6 months or so before shutting down for what is likely to be an extended period prior to awakening in the glorious prime of its life. Dense, supple and rich in extract; juicy flavors of cassis and licorice. Offers impressive texture for the vintage, but comes across as distinctly less sweet than the Howell Mountain bottling. While very Lafite-like (although more supple and forward), it exhibits a dense ruby/purple color in addition to an excellent bouquet of black fruits, smoke, earth, and minerals, supple tannin, an excellent texture, and a long, fine finish." The dazzlingly explosive aromatic display is followed by a creamy-textured, medium to full-bodied, beautifully-layered wine with no hard edges. Exceptionally rich with an outstanding texture, this medium to full-bodied wine possesses a distinctive, individualistic style, largely because of its floral, blueberry fruit flavors. 1998 Domaine Cathiard Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Suchots"
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1998 Domaine Cathiard Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Suchots". Cilve Coates ranks the Suchots climat as grand cru quality, saying: "Les Suchots occupies a flattenned egg sort of mound between Richebourg and Romanée-Saint-Vivant, and Echézeaux, and is the largest of the Vosne-Romanée premiers crus. There are just over 13 hectares. This is the most noble of all the first growths. In the best hands we really do get grand cru quality. The wine is full bodied, less lush than Brulées, less finely spirited (in a racehorse sense) than Beaumonts, but of great breeding nonetheless." He also recommends Domaine Cathiard as one to seek out.
