1998 Pride Mountain "Reserve" Napa Valley Claret
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1998 Pride Mountain "Reserve" Napa Valley Claret (93RP, 92ST, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The opaque purple-colored 1998 Reserve Claret (a blend of 60% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Petit Verdot) reveals red and black fruit scents intermixed with vanilla, underbrush, and mocha/coffee. It is long and opulently-textured, with low acidity, fabulous fruit, a succulent, expansive mid-palate, and a blockbuster, long finish. This is compelling stuff... The limited production Reserve cuvee (280 cases) is an expression of California winemaking at its most compelling. (RP)" (06/2002)

Brilliant aromas of strawberry, raspberry, cherry and bitter chocolate. Wonderfully intense, sharply delineated flavors of red berries, spices and mint; a wine of great density and verve, not to mention powerful structure for long life. A rare combination of silky texture and lightness of touch. Fabulous back end features utterly suave tannins and resounding, vibrant fruit." (03/2001)

1998 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1998 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac (98RP, 95WS, 94ST, 94W&S). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19% Merlot, this wine represents only 34% of Lafite's total harvest. In a less than perfect Medoc vintage, it has been spectacular since birth, putting on more weight and flesh over the last year. This opaque purple-colored 1998 is close to perfection. The spectacular nose of lead pencil, smoky, mineral, and black currant fruit soars majestically from the glass. The wine is elegant yet profoundly rich, revealing the essence of Lafite's character. The tannin is sweet, and the wine is spectacularly layered yet never heavy. The finish is sweet, super-rich, yet impeccably balanced and long (50+ seconds). Anticipated maturity: 2007-2035. (RP)" (04/2001)

1998 Monbousquet, St-Émilion (6L)
Bid on this 6 liter 1-bottle lot of 1998 Monbousquet, St-Émilion (6L) (94RP, (90-91ST), 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Yields of 28-30 hectoliters per hectare are among the lowest in St.-Emilion, which no doubt accounts for the wine's explosive richness. The final blend, 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Cabernet Franc, was bottled unfined and unfiltered after 18 months in 100% new oak, with aging on the lees. It boasts a saturated plum/purple color in addition to an exotic bouquet of Asian spices, plum liqueur, prunes, and blackberries. Extremely full-bodied, unctuously-textured, structured, and well-defined, this spectacular achievement will drink well young, yet last for two decades. (RP)" (04/2001)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1998 Domaine du Clos de Tart Clos de Tart Grand Cru (Mommessin) (95ST, 93BH, 93WS). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright ruby. Highly complex nose melds black raspberry, Indian spices, gunflint, tar and smoky oak; seemed to grow fresher and more vibrant with aeration. Dense, thick and highly concentrated, with brilliantly defined but still rather backward fruit flavors. Finishes with great length and extremely fine tannins that dust the entire mouth. 95(+?) points" (03/2001)

Inky-black in color, full in body, packed with flavors, but also delivering great finesse with its silky tannins. Bold but focused blackberry, wild raspberry, smoke, petrol, and tar complexity. 1998 Montrose, St-Estèphe
Bid on this bottle of 1998 Montrose, St-Estèphe (90RP, 90ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A classic effort, the 1998 Montrose exhibits a dense purple color in addition to a sweet nose of jammy cassis, licorice, earth, and smoke. It is a powerful and full-bodied wine with well-integrated tannin. Given Montrose's tendency to shut down, it is performing better out of bottle than I expected. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2030. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1998 Domaine Joseph Roty Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru "Très Vieilles Vignes" (95ST, 93BH). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated ruby. Knockout nose combines dark berries, violets, spices and smoked meat. A '98 of remarkable sweetness and depth. Huge but broad tannins are completely buffered by the wine's sheer concentration. Resounding, utterly fresh finish. This comes across as more accessible today than the Mazis or Griottes due to its sheer volume and sweetness, but it should age well for two decades. 95+ (ST)" (04/2001)

Of the 1996 Domaine Joseph Roty Griottes-Chambertin,Grand Cru,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "This wine has a bright black color and a profound nose of sweet cherries laced with toasty oak. This elegant, velvety-textured, medium-to-full-bodied, and concentrated wine reveals smoked bacon, black cherries, cassis, minerals, and grilled oak. Of the 1997 Domaine Vincent et François Jouard Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru Reserve Vieilles Vignes,From importer Weygandt-Metzler writes: "This family-run estate, taken over by the Jouard brothers, Vincent and Francois, in 1990, existed before 1820. Francois is the winemaker and Vincent works in the vines. At 11 hectares (a little over 27 acres), they produce 95% white wines, and only 5% red Chassagne-Montrachet. Very attached to their roots and the value of the soil handed down to them by their family, they reject automatic decisions and each task is adapted to each barrel. The same philosophy applies to vineyard work: Sustainable vi

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1998 Pavie, St-Emilion (95RP, 92ST, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A 50-year wine, this opaque purple-colored offering exhibits a strong, precise nose of black fruits, liquid minerals, smoke, and graphite. Extremely full-bodied, yet brilliantly delineated, powerful, and awesomely concentrated, it boasts a fabulous mid-palate as well as a finish that lasts for nearly a minute. This vin de garde requires 5-6 years of cellaring. A tour de force in winemaking, it has the potential to be the most profound Pavie ever produced, except for its two successors.
