Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The dazzling 1998 Barbaresco Vanotu (a 575-case cuvee aged in French oak for two years) is sensational. Of the 1998 Château La Nerthe "Cuvée des Cadettes" Châteauneuf-du-Pape,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "Possibly the greatest vintage ever for this cuvee (we'll see if the 2010 tops it in another decade), the 1998 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee des Cadettes is up with the creme de la creme of the vintage. Still fresh, concentrated and lively, with medium to full-bodied richness and polished tannin, it reveals a vibrant ruby color to go with tons of garrigue, leather, chocolate, cured meats and spice. A blend of 37% Mourvedre, 36% Grenache and the rest Syrah that spent 12 months in small barrels followed by six months in tank, it's an incredible, modern-styled Chateauneuf du Pape that's drinking spectacularly today. Bid on this magnum of 1998 Williams & Selyem Mendocino County Pinot Noir (1.5L). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep red-ruby...nose hints at black and red cherry, spice and mint. 1998 Harlan Estate Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (OWC)
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1998 Harlan Estate Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (OWC - 95RP, 93ST, 90WS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1998, which is a candidate for the "Wine of the Vintage," was produced from yields of 0.9 tons per acre. There are only 1,100 cases, and it is the first Harlan Estate to be composed of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. A spectacular achievement, it boasts an opaque plum/purple color as well as a sumptuous nose of espresso, mineral, blueberry, blackberry, tobacco, licorice, Asian spice, and roasted meat smells. In the mouth, it is seamless, full-bodied, with an unctuous texture, gorgeously sweet tannin, and layer upon layer of concentration. This is a tour de force in winemaking. It is hard to believe that a wine such as this has emerged from 1998. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2030." (12/2000)

Bid on this bottle of 1998 Penfolds "RWT" Shiraz Barossa Valley (93RP, 92WS, 90JH, 90ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "1998 was the 2nd vintage produced of the RWT (standing for Red Winemaking Trial). It offers an evolved, earthy, tobacco and forest floor nose over notes of warm black berries and dried mint. Full bodied, there's a great combination of berry-laced and savory flavor in the mouth supported by firm fine-grained tannins and crisp acid, finishing long." (01/2012)

1998 & 2004 Shiraz South Australia Tasting Lot
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1998 & 2004 Shiraz South Australia Tasting Lot, including 1-bottle of 1998 Fox Creek "Reserve" Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia (96RP, 95ST, 90JH) and 1-bottle of 2004 Burge Family "Draycott" Shiraz Barossa Valley South Australia (95RP, 94JH). Of the 1998 Fox Creek "Reserve" Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 1998 Shiraz Reserve has the most potential of this trio. It combines some of the mature elements of the 1997 with the massive richness of the 1996, but without the 1996's slightly rustic framework. A dense purple color is followed by a sensational bouquet of creme de cassis, charcoal, and incense. Full-bodied, opulent, and voluptuously-textured, this is a big, but incredibly well-balanced wine. Its fruit bomb-like personality of a decade ago has morphed into something far more civilized, delineated, and refined. This gorgeous offering is a superb example of McLaren Vale Shiraz. Enjoy it over the next 10-15

1998 Greenock Creek "Apricot Block" Shiraz Barossa Valley South Australia
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1998 Greenock Creek "Apricot Block" Shiraz Barossa Valley South Australia (94RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A backward wine is the 1998 Shiraz Apricot Block. Made from relatively young vines (7 years in age), this 100% Shiraz shows an opaque garnet/purple color and a sweet nose of melted asphalt, smoke, blackberry, and cassis. Extremely full-bodied with great intensity, tremendous purity, and impeccable overall harmony among its rather large-scale elements, this dense, super-extracted wine should be at its best between 2004-2020. Wine Spectator: "Displays gorgeous, savage aromas and flavors, with crushed juniper berry, hot tar, sage leaf, roasted chestnut and grilled beef notes that scorch across the palate. Still rugged on the finish, though the color at the rim and the intensity and range of the aromas show that this is evolving. (JM)" (09/2007)
