1990 Giuseppe Quintarelli Recioto della Valpolicella Riserva
Bid on this bottle of 1990 Giuseppe Quintarelli Recioto della Valpolicella Riserva (98VN, 94WS). Vinous: "I went back and forth as to which of the two Reciotos but it was an impossible task as both wines were extraterrestrial. This was my last bottle of the 1983 Recioto Gran Riserva, a mythical, legendary bottle that more than lived up to expectations. I will never understand how a wine can be so complex yet so youthful, but that was exactly where the 1983 was. This immortal Recioto flowed with the essence of rich cherries, violets, chocolate and minerals in a regal style fit for kings and queens. The 1990 Recioto Riserva was incredibly rich, seamless and opulent, all while somehow staying light on its feet. The 1990 had a touch more depth than the 1983 Gran Riserva but perhaps a shade less overall complexity. No matter, both wines were profound. The torrone dessert was delicious, but in the end I chose to spend a few last contemplative moments with these two masterpieces from Giuseppe

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2004 Dal Forno Romano Valpolicella Superiore (93RP, 92WE, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Sweet, open aromatics lead to hints of dark blueberries, blackberries, spices and minerals as the 2004 Valpolicella Superiore gradually opens in the glass. Today the wine comes across as shut down, but the imposing tannins are also rather fine, suggesting that with time the wine’s inner sweetness will gradually emerge. Readers who want to try their luck with this wine earlier should open the bottle a good eight hours or so prior to drinking it. (AG)" (10/2008)

Of the 2005 Dal Forno Romano Valpolicella Superiore,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "Dal Forno should really change the name of his 2005 Valpolicella Superiore. It is really an Amarone for all practical intents and purposes, as it is made entirely from fruit that has been dried, albeit for less time than that legally required for Amarone. Firm, sturdy tannins frame blackberries, blueberries, violets and new leather in the 2005 Valpolicella. This is an especially structured, shut-down wine, even within the context of Dal Forno. The wine’s gorgeous inner perfume and sheer depth suggest that all that is required is patience. With time in the glass the tannins soften just enough to get a glimpse of what is in store for those who can wait a few years.
