1982 Casa Ferreirinha "Barca Velha" Douro
Bid on this bottle of 1982 Casa Ferreirinha "Barca Velha" Douro (92RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1982 BARCA VELHA (CASA FERREIRINHA) is more of a prime time wine than the ’81, not quite as seamless, but deeper and more powerful, with firm tannins still on the finish. It shows fine fruit, minerality and earthiness. It is both complex and penetrating at this point in its life, with plenty of time left. Drink now-2020. This estate has long since been acquired by Sogrape (and is in more recent incarnations listed under Sogrape). Its Barca Velha was Portugal’s famed cult wines--and as these wines show, they hold well. I was fortunate to have these at a dinner tasting featuring old Portuguese stars. I normally don’t publish reviews here from such, but this is a hard-to-replicate tasting and worth mentioning for the insight it provided into Portugal’s history. (MS)" (12/2009)

1978 Casa Ferreirinha "Barca Velha" Douro
Bid on this bottle of 1978 Casa Ferreirinha "Barca Velha" Douro. First crafted in the 1950s, Casa Ferreirinha's Barca Velha was created by Fernando Nicolau de Almeida to show that the Douro could make stellar dry reds in addition to the Port wine for which the region is famous. Although this is a much more rare bottling, it is a "pinnacle wine" for the region along the lines of Vega Sicilia upriver in Spain. Barca Velha is only made in the best vintages and is a must-try for any fan of Portuguese wine or special Old World reds in general.

1994 Taylor Vintage Port
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1994 Taylor Vintage Port (100JS, 100WS, 99WE, 97RP). Wine Spectator: "*Cellar Selection and Wine of the Year 1997* In a word, superb. It's full-bodied, moderately sweet and incredibly tannic, but there's amazing finesse and refinement to the texture, not to mention fabulous, concentrated aromas of raspberries, violets and other flowers. Perhaps the greatest Taylor ever, it's better than either the 1992 or the 1970, though it's very like the '70 in structure. Best after 2010. (JS)" (04/1997)

1977 Fonseca Vintage Port
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1977 Fonseca Vintage Port (100JS, 100WS, 95JG, 93RP). Wine Spectator: "What a Vintage Port. Dark ruby center, with a dark garnet edge. Aromas of flowers, blackberry and licorice. Subtle and complex. Wow. What a palate. Full, concentrated and rich, yet balanced and beautiful. Solid and sleepy. Still not giving all it has to give. This is just coming around. Gorgeous and classy. Love it. (JS, Web-2008)"

1985 Fonseca Vintage Port
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1985 Fonseca Vintage Port (96DC, 93RP, 93WS). Decanter: "A troublesome vintage for many shippers, but Fonseca 1985 never fails to impress: tight-knit, dense and minty with a core of concentration and pure berry fruit. Succulent, wonderfully fresh and vibrant at 30 years old. Peacock’s tail of a finish. A real ‘wow’ of a wine that promises to last a lifetime. (RM)" (11/2015)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1987 Niepoort's Vintage Port (91WS). Wine Spectator: "An impressive example of the vintage, with lots of power and backbone. Inky color, with a very intense, grapy, Syrah-like nose, full-bodied, with full, ripe tannins and plenty of sweet fruit flavors. Extremely long on the finish. (JS)" (01/1989)
