1999 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia "Ornellaia" Bolgheri Superiore
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1999 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia "Ornellaia" Bolgheri Superiore (95VN, 94RP, 94ST, 94WS). Vinous: "I was blown away by the 1999 Ornellaia. Still fresh and youthful, it reveals a powerful, authoritative personality in its layers of primary fruit, with its opulence beautifully balanced by its big yet polished tannins. Another year or two of bottle age is probably called for but readers will have a hard time keeping their hands off this gorgeous wine. Given its considerable structure it should have no problem aging for another dozen years. In 1999 the blend consisted of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. (AG)" (03/2007)

1999 Domaine Dujac Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 1999 Domaine Dujac Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru (92BH, 91ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This remains almost completely primary with only a trace of initial maturity creeping in on the explosion of black fruits that display spice and earth nuances that merge into relatively supple yet intense, mouth coating and long medium weight plus flavors that are supported by still firm but ripe and integrated tannins on the impressive long finish. As it usually is, this is an elegant wine chez Dujac and given the relatively lazy evolution to this point, the magnum format is going to require ample time to arrive at full maturity." (03/2008)

Of the 1999 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars "Cask 23" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon,Connoisseurs Guide writes: "How do you spell controversial? With one of the few split scores ever given by Connoisseurs' Guide. Most tasters loved the power, loved the tightly focused black cherry, slightly dried currant fruit, loved the boldness and the way there is a sense of polish developing in the background, loved the structure that promises to keep the wine going for a couple of decades yet. The dissenting voice questions whether the higher alcohol and the slight bit of stalkiness at the edges will eat into the wine's aging potential. It is stil

That niggle noted, this is very classy juice with terrific complexity, breed and excellent length. Bid on this bottle of 1999 Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Veilles Vignes (96RP, 93BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Clos de la Roche Vieille Vignes is one of Laurent’s best wines from this hallowed vineyard. It has a generous bouquet that, as I commented before, does not mess about, almost “hugging” the olfactory senses and begging to be loved. It swarms with cranberry and raspberry scents, and continues to emit something almost Tuscan, but here with a little more mineralite. Medium-bodied and chewy-textured, it is opulent, lush, and awesomely structured. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1999 Domaine Pierre Usseglio "Cuvée du Cinquantenaire" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (96RP, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The prodigious, saturated, opaque ruby/purple-colored 1999 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de Cinquantenaire (200 cases) is a candidate for the wine of the vintage. A 100% Grenache cuvee aged in older demi-muids, it is exceptionally full-bodied with a fabulous perfume of blackberry liqueur, cassis, minerals, spice, and flowers. The texture is sumptuous, and the wine accessible, although readers lucky enough to latch onto a few bottles should cellar it for 2-3 years, and watch the magic unfold over the following two decades. 1999 Caldwell Napa Valley Proprietary Red

From Robert Parker's 'The Wine Advocate' - 'The 1999 (a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 10% Syrah) offers a distinctive, voluptuous, mineral and blackberry-infused character. Approximately 60% new French oak is used, and the winery's policy is to bottle without filtration if possible. The 1999 possess sweeter fruit as well as more density and structure than the 1998. It will be delicious young and keep for 15+ years." This barrel sample was rated 90-92+ Also got 92 points from the Wine Spectator... 'Fans of the early Pahlmeyer Cabernets will remember the Caldwell Vineyard designation. John Caldwell is on his own now, and after a very good, but decidedly tough-edged ’98 (88 points), this is a far superior effort, from an excellent vintage. The vineyard is in the Coombsville area, east of the city of Napa. Dark, dense and mouthcoating, with rich, concentrated currant, coffee, mocha and anise flavors

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1999 Comte Armand Pommard 1er Cru "Clos des Epeneaux" (94BH, 92RP). Despite the higher than normal yields, this is really quite concentrated, seamless and exquisitely harmonious. In sum, this is a Clos des Epeneaux that should age for years to come, particularly in magnum format. 1999 Domaine Dujac Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 1999 Domaine Dujac Clos de la Roche Grand Cru (95BH, (90-92RP), 91ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Much to my surprise given the large format bottling, this was really quite aromatically expressive with really lovely depth to the mostly red and blue berry fruit that is just now beginning to evidence the first hints of secondary development along with ample amounts of earth, game and a smoky hint. The delicious and muscular medium weight plus flavors display ample minerality that continues onto the velvety and mouth coating finish that seems to go on and on. The tannins are still relatively firm and in mag format, this may need another 10 years to really arrive at its full maturity but I have shortened the drinking window slightly because the wine could be enjoyed now as there is sufficient mid-palate fat. Note further that I have raised my score slightly as this really is extremely impressive." (08/2010)

1999 La Jota "18th Anniversary" Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1999 La Jota "18th Anniversary" Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon (90WS). Wine Spectator: "A big, bold, decadent style, with leathery currant, juicy plum, wild berry and black cherry flavors. On the finish, the fruit wins out (but not without a struggle). Sufficient tannins and concentration to cellar short-term. Drink now through 2010." (09/02) According to Robert Parker: The dense purple-colored 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon 18th Anniversary Release offers a sweet nose of cassis, earth, herbs, and minerals. In the mouth, it is muscular and austere, with firm, high tannin in addition to a compressed finish. It will need 3-4 years of cellaring when released, and should easily evolve for 15 years."
