A hint of truffles emerges as it sits in the glass. Medium-bodied with sweet fruit (mostly black) and nicely integrated wood, it builds incrementally in the mouth, ending with a 50-second finish. Dark ruby-colored with a garnet rim, it displays a lovely nose of Asian spices, incense, tobacco, balsamic, and blackberry. On the palate it has exceptional depth, layers of spicy black fruit, excellent ripeness, and an elegant personality. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2001 Dominus Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (OWC - 98RP, 94WE, 93ST, 93W&S, 91JS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A brilliant showing for Christian Moueix’s well-known Napanook Vineyard, the 2001 Dominus is a blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 10% Petit Verdot. A classic in the making, this is a flawless, seamless example of elegant, complex Napa Cabernet Sauvignon that possesses a Bordeaux-like personality. This gorgeous, sexy, opulent, dense ruby/purple-colored wine reveals sweet caramel, mocha, creme de cassis and kirsch notes intermixed with a hint of espresso roast as well as underbrush. Ripe, long and full-bodied with well-integrated tannin, acidity, alcohol and wood, this prodigious 2001 is drinkable now and over the next 25+ years given this estate’s longevity track record. 2001 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 2001 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac ((0-92RP), 91W&S, 90ST, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted blind at Bordeaux Index’s 10-Year On horizontal. The first bottle of this was denuded of vitality and out of sorts (indeed this is a major problem with this vintage.) Not corked, but previous experience old me that it was not “happy” bottle. Fortunately I stayed for another to be opened and this far more representative. Ripe, dark berried fruits on the nose with touches of mulberry, briary, graphite and sous-bois. The palate is medium-bodied with a crisp entry, tarry black fruits on the entry, sharp acidity, very tight but that is probably because this bottle had just been opened. Very fine. (NM)" (05/2011)

Dense, with medium to full-body, supple tannin, good viscosity, and a long finish..." (10/2004)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2001 Domaine Dujac Chambolle-Musigny Les Gruenchers 1er Cru (91ST). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium red. Highly perfumed aromas of strawberry, raspberry, coffee, underbrush, roasted meat and sweet oak; slightly high-toned and seductively candied. Smooth on the palate but also high-pitched and very fresh, with an intriguing combination of stony minerality, superripe red fruits and underbrush. Lovely thickness of texture nicely leavened by sound acidity. This has absorbed its 100% new oak nicely. (ST)" (03/2004)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2001 Hudelot-Noellat Clos Vougeot Grand Cru (94JG, 92BH). John Gilman: "The 2001 Hudelot-Noëllat Clos Vougeot is a beautiful example of the vintage that is getting pretty close to blossoming. The first class nose wafts from the glass in a mélange of cherries, red plums, cocoa powder, lovely minerality, mustard seed, game, incipient notes of sous bois and a nice base of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and beautifully balanced, with a rock solid core, excellent soil signature, ripe tannins and a very long, tangy and superbly focused finish. A very high class example of the Clos. (Drink between 2019-2050) " (01/2015)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2001 Domaine Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Amoureuses" (92ST, (89-91BH), 90RP). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep red. Expressive, superripe aromas of briary currant and blueberry, menthol and mocha. Wonderfully sweet and aromatic in the mouth, with highly concentrated, nearly candied flavors of blackberry pie and framboise Shows a surmuri aspect that reminded me of grenache, but a firm spine of acidity gives the wine freshness and grip. Still a bit youthfully unforthcoming and in need of three to five years of aging. A powerful, extraordinarily ripe 2001 that finishes with big, tongue-dusting tannins and explosive length. Pure, highly perfumed aromas of cassis, licorice, minerals and flowers. Wonderfully precise and taut in the mouth, with lovely sweetness and terrific verve. 2001 Ridge "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2001 Ridge "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (99RP, 98VN, 97WE, 95WS, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A resoundingly great effort from this iconic producer, Ridge's 2001 is a spectacular, still young but promising wine... A dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by extravagant, generous aromas of pen ink, lead pencil shavings, spice box and black fruits. The wine is full-bodied and silky textured, but secondary nuances have not yet begun to develop as it is still very primary, tasting more like a 3-4 year old Monte Bello than one that is ten years of age. Nevertheless, it reveals spectacular concentration, a voluptuous texture, a rare opulence for a Ridge Monte Bello, and an incredible finish. The upside is enormous and this cuvee may prove somewhat atypical due to the huge percentage of Merlot in the final blend and the higher than normal alcohol. (RP)" (06/2011)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2001 Mitolo "Savitar" Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia (94JH, (91-93RP), 92WS). James Halliday: "Medium purple-red; the complex bouquet has a quite different range of aromatics, with edges of game, leather and spice; the palate is once again true to the Mitolo style, with multi-layered dark berry fruits, and fine-grained tannins suggesting long maceration. Presented in one of those Dreadnought bottles." (03/2003)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2001 Domaine Dujac Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru (93BH, 92ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Austere, backward and brooding nose of red and black fruit, crushed herbs and a touch of earth and leather with full, complex, driving, muscular and very powerful flavors that are more linear and direct in character than either the Clos de la Roche or the Echézeaux and possess outstanding persistence. This is solidly structured yet not hard but it will require every bit of a decade to begin drinking well and it should age gracefully for years. In a word, gorgeous." (01/2004)

Of the 2003 Pride Mountain "Reserve" Sonoma/Napa Counties Cabernet Sauvignon,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "In contrast, the 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is an equal part blend of Napa and Sonoma fruit. There is no doubting the Cabernet Sauvignon in this wine! Classic notes of cedarwood, underbrush, licorice, black currants and tobacco leaf are textbook definitions of this varietal. The color is even denser than the Reserve Claret's, and the bouquet offers additional notes of Chinese black tea. Elegant with great acid as well as stunning concentration, richness and

Bid on this bottle of 2001 Henri Boillot Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru (94BH, 93ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "The purity here is mind bending and this is perhaps the most transparent wine in this entire group. Elegant, fine and crystalline with superbly detailed fruit and flavors with a positively brilliant, almost painfully intense finish that is astonishingly long. Classy and altogether imposing with its unmatched combination of complexity, depth and focus. While I cannot argue that this has better material than either the Montrachet or the incredible Corton-Charlemagne, I can say that stylistically, the Chevalier is my personal favorite. This is unquestionably a great wine." (07/2003)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Barolo Bric del Fiasc is a gorgeous wine laced with smoke, tar, licorice and menthol. The 2001 remains powerful and authoritative, with more than enough fruit to balance its huge tannins. Today it comes across as almost impenetrably young. Shining for its purity, elegance and freshness - all of which make it hard to resist today - it's a great choice for readers looking for a classic, mature Hermitage that's drinking at point. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2001 Domaine Dujac Clos de la Roche Grand Cru (94BH, 92ST, (89-91RP)). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "As is the case with this wine from 750 ml (see herein for that review), this beauty displays more elegance and finesse than usual with its pure aromas of earth, black and red fruit and spice that are nuanced by subtle notes of soy, coffee and hoisin. There is a really lovely mouth feel to the nicely voluminous, intense and mineral-laden middle weight flavors that deliver exceptionally fine length in an impeccably well-balanced finale. While certainly not at its apogee, this is one of those 2001s that is so harmonious that it could easily be enjoyed now though it clearly is still on the way up and thus should amply reward another 6 to 8 years of cellaring."
