2001 Margaux, Margaux
Bid on this bottle of 2001 Margaux, Margaux (97WE, 93RP, 93ST, 92WS). Wine Enthusiast: "'For me, this vintage is what makes Margaux special,' says Margaux winemaker Paul Pontallier. He is right: With its denseness, spice, flavors of black currants layered with dryness and fresh acidity, this is a huge and impressive wine that never forgets that it is Margaux. It is still young, and the dry tannic aftertaste, which lasts for many minutes, shows this." (06/2005)

2001 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2001 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage (95WS, 94RP, 94ST). Wine Spectator: "This is an elegant, sinewy vintage that is just starting to hit its stride, with a strong sanguine and cedar frame to the core of dried red currant, cherry pit and red licorice notes. A racy iron note is now in full throat on the finish. The commanding minerality should carry this through a second stage of life. (Web- 2012)"

Wine Spectator: " *Collectible* Intense aromas of violets, berries and spices follow through to a full-bodied palate, with layers of supersilky tannins and a long, long finish. Very classic in style. All in elegance and length. I like it better than the 2000." (03/2004)

2001 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2001 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape (96RP, 93WS, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Beaucastel has been on a terrific qualitative roll over the last four vintages, and the 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape (which Francois Perrin feels is similar to the 1990, although I don’t see that as of yet) is a 15,000-case blend of 30% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre, 10% Syrah, 10% Counoise, and the balance split among the other permitted varietals of the appellation. This inky/ruby/purple-colored cuvee offers a classic Beaucastel bouquet of new saddle leather, cigar smoke, roasted herbs, black truffles, underbrush, and blackberry as well as cherry fruit. It is a superb, earthy expression of this Mourvedre-dominated cuvee. Full-bodied and powerful, it will undoubtedly close down over the next several years, not to re-emerge for 7-8 years. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2025. (RP)" (02/2004)

2001 Torbreck "Run Rig" Shiraz Barossa Valley South Australia (OWC)
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2001 Torbreck "Run Rig" Shiraz Barossa Valley South Australia (OWC - 99RP, 98WS, 94JH, 93ST, 92W&S, 92WE) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The youngest Run Rig, the 2001, should equal the 1998 as it is almost a clone aromatically, texturally, and flavor-wise, just much younger. This opaque purple-colored beauty should flirt with perfection over the next 10-15 years. Torbreck’s flagship wine, the Run Rig, is made from 40- to 120-year-old Shiraz vines with some co-fermented Viognier (usually around 3%), tips the scales between 14-15% alcohol, and is aged 30 months in French oak. In contrast to the way they taste upon release, neither the 1998 or 1997 Run Rig revealed any oak." (06/2009)

2001 Sine Qua Non "Midnight Oil" California Syrah
Bid on this bottle of 2001 Sine Qua Non "Midnight Oil" California Syrah (96RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The impeccable 2001 Midnight Oil (95.5% Syrah, 3% Grenache, and 1.5% Viognier) is a product of four vineyards, Alban, Stolpman, Bien Nacido, and White Hawk. The good news is there are 950 cases of this compelling effort. With a 'midnight' black color, and the viscosity of 10-W-40 oil, its aromas of violet/acacia flowers, melted licorice, camphor, blackberries, creme de cassis, and subtle toasty new oak are accompanied by a wine boasting terrific texture, good underlying acidity, ripe tannin, and a 60-second plus finish. This stunning effort competes with the 2000, and what looks to be Krankl’s greatest Syrah-based wine to date, the 2002. (RP)" (08/2003)

2001 Domaine Jean Tardy Clos Vougeot Grand Cru "Grand Maupertuis"
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2001 Domaine Jean Tardy Clos Vougeot Grand Cru "Grand Maupertuis". Allen Meadows writes: "Jean Tardy and his son Guillaume run this small, traditional 5.5 ha domaine. Tardy is unique in that they are the last remaining sharecroppers for Domaine Méo-Camuzet (see above). The domaine leases a small parcel of Clos de Vougeot, a large one of Boudots and fully 1.5 ha of Chaumes. The terms of the métayage agreement require Tardy to deliver 50% of the crop to Méo at harvest time and he reports that the lease runs until 2007. They practice lutte raisonné (the practice of applying treatments only when a particular threat presents itself, rather than treating in advance - the theory is that the vines receive fewer treatments because not all threats materialize), short pruning and replant strictly by repiquage, or replacing individual vines rather than grubbing up parcels in their entirety; this keeps average vine age at its maximum though it's far more expensive to do.

2001 Mommessin Clos de Tart Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 2001 Mommessin Clos de Tart Grand Cru (94RP, 93ST, 91BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Clos de Tart is aging beautifully and is maturing into one of Sylvain Pitiot’s finest wines. Replicating its performance in 2010, it has a very expressive bouquet of vivacious red berry fruit: wild strawberry and raspberry, laced with minerals and dried rose petals. The palate is very well-balanced and full of succulent brambly red fruit. Perhaps it is moving into its secondary phase less slowly than I anticipated, with nuanced undergrowth notes developing toward the finish, which remains very fruit-driven and tense. There is a sense of style and class to this Clos de Tart, a grand cru bound to age with those same attributes over the following decade and beyond. Drink now-2024+. (NM)" (04/2014)

2001 Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 2001 Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru (92BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A beautiful and complex nose offers up notes of dried flowers, spice, earth and a touch of animale along with secondary fruit aromas. There is good richness and detail to the medium-bodied, delicious and solidly complex flavors that possess fine verve on the balanced, persistent and satisfying finish. This is drinking perfectly now and while there is a bit of underlying tannin remaining, this is at its peak. I very much like this and it should continue to drink well for another decade, perhaps more." (03/2013)

Bid on this bottle of 2001 Domaine Comte de Vogüé Musigny Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes (96BH, (94-96RP)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Sumptuous aromas of violets, blackberries, and bilberries explode from the medium to dark ruby-colored 2001 Musigny. A wine of amazing purity and elegance, it reverberates on the palate revealing broad layers of floral dark fruit flavors. Lush yet superbly delineated, this medium-bodied effort is expressive, complex, and dignified. Its prolonged, succulent finish exhibits waves of raspberry fruit and loads of ripe, supple tannin. One of the stars of the vintage, it will be at its peak of maturity between 2006 and 2015. " (06/2003)

Full-bodied and very sweet, with fantastic concentration of ripe and botrytized fruit, yet balanced and refined. Electric acidity. Lasts for minutes on the palate. This is absolutely mind-blowing. The palate is very natural and refined, in no way a powerful Chambertin, rather one of finesse, grace and purity. Divine. Drink now-2026. Tasted January 2014. (NM)" (04/2014)

Of the 2001 Rene Rostaing Cote Rotie ''La Landonne'',Wine Spectator writes: "This is a taut and minerally version, with lavender, iron and olive paste notes holding sway over racy cherry and cassis fruit. 2001 Bodegas Numanthia-Termes "Numanthia" Toro
Bid on this bottle of 2001 Bodegas Numanthia-Termes "Numanthia" Toro (95RP, 94ST). 95 points Robert Parker: "The flagship offering, the 2001 Numanthia, is fashioned from a 70-100 year old Tinta de Toro vineyard planted at a 2300 foot elevation. After a 28 day maceration, the wine undergoes malolactic in barrel, is aged 19 months in new French oak, and is bottled without fining or filtration. The spectacular, opaque purple-colored 2001 offers an explosive nose of melted licorice, barbecue smoke, blackberries, creme de cassis, camphor, and graphite. Full-bodied with gorgeously rich, concentrated fruit, a layered texture, and tremendous purity, it can be drunk young, but should hit its prime in 1-2 years, and last for 10-15." (04/04) 94 points Stephen Tanzer: "Good saturated ruby. Slightly reduced aromas of blackberry, violet, espresso and bitter chocolate. Suave and smooth in the mouth, with firm flavors of blackberry, violet and licorice. More perfumed and vibrant than the Termes. Fini

2001 Abreu "Thorevilos" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2001 Abreu "Thorevilos" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (100RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Thorevilos is another example of what may well be Napa Valley’s version of Ausone, and one of the single greatest vineyard sites in California. One could say this is world-class, but it’s really all-universe. A tour de force in winemaking, with notes of blueberry liqueur intermixed with subtle white chocolate, espresso roast, cassis, blackberry and perfumed, floral notes, it is full-bodied, with great flavor purity, a skyscraper-like texture, and a remarkable finish, with a seamless integration of all component parts. This is extraordinary wine that everyone who loves wine should at least taste once or twice in their lifetime. Both of these wines are adolescents, and probably won’t peak for another 5-8 years and keep for 30-40. (RP)" (06/2011)

Bid on this bottle of 2001 M. Chapoutier "Le Méal" Ermitage ((92-95RP), 93ST, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The dense purple-colored 2001 Ermitage Le Meal reveals aromas of blackberry liqueur, smoke, licorice, and toasty oak. While rich, it is neither as expansive nor as broad compared to the 2000. The 2001 possesses good acidity and delineation in addition to a tight, pinched but impressive finish that lasts for 40-45 seconds. It is certainly an outstanding, even profound effort, but not as compelling as previous vintages. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2030. (RP)" (06/2003)
