2007 Vietti "Rocche" Barolo (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum lot of 2007 Vietti "Rocche" Barolo (1.5L) (99RP, 98JS, 96ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Vietti's 2007 Barolo Rocche is shaping up to be one of the wines of the vintage. The bouquet alone is transcendental. The voluptuous, classy Rocche shows off endless layers of fruit in an exciting and totally alluring expression of Nebbiolo. The wine seems to float on the palate, as the essence of geraniums, red berries, hard candy and minerals conquer all of the senses. Fine, silky tannins frame a finish of breathtaking beauty. The Rocche spent a full 5 weeks of contact on the skins. Like all the Vietti Baroli, malolactic fermentation was carried out in French oak after which the wine was racked into large, neutral casks for aging. The 2007 Rocche is the very finest wine I have ever tasted from Vietti. I only hope Alfredo Currado had a chance to taste this at least a few times before he passed away last year. (AG)" (02/2011)

2008 Elio Grasso "Ginestra - Casa Matè" Barolo
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2008 Elio Grasso "Ginestra - Casa Matè" Barolo (98RP, 98VN, 96ST, 95JS, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Licorice, tar, menthol, spices and crushed rocks are some of the nuances that flow from the 2008 Barolo Ginestra Vigna Casa Mate. This dramatic, large-scaled Barolo impresses for its towering depth, complexity and sheer pedigree. Tar, menthol, licorice and spices wrap around the fleshy, deep finish. The Ginestra Vigna Casa Mate is considerably more powerful than the silkier Gavarini, but both wines represent the height of finesse in Nebbiolo. (AG)" (04/2012)

1996 Falletto di Bruno Giacosa "Le Rocche del Falletto" Barolo Riserva (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum lot of 1996 Falletto di Bruno Giacosa "Le Rocche del Falletto" Barolo Riserva (1.5L). Praise for Giacosa's 1996 vintage from Stephen Tanzer: "Giacosa is enamored with the '96 vintage, which he compares in quality and balance to the fabulous year of 1971. The Giacosa '96s I tasted are legends in the making, among the high points of my recent tour and truly great examples of traditional winemaking. Aromatically speaking, they are truly exhilarating wines, and they appear to have the sheer material and sweetness at the core to outlast their powerful, palate saturating tannins... 1996 was a more regular year, yielding wines with superb color and structure, thanks largely to sound acidity. They also offer a rare degree of flavor development." (11/1998)

2001 Bruno Giacosa "Rabaja" Barbaresco Riserva
Bid on this bottle of 2001 Bruno Giacosa "Rabaja" Barbaresco Riserva (98RP, 93ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Surprisingly, the 2001 Barbaresco Riserva Rabaja is the most expressive of Giacosa’s Barbareschi today. I still remember tasting this wine the very first time. It is every bit as dazzling today. Dark fruit, menthol, spices, licorice, graphite and tar meld together in this towering, statuesque Barbaresco. Readers who own the Rabaja are in for a thrilling ride. It is easily one of the best wines Bruno Giacosa has ever made. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2031. (AG)" (04/2012)

A bit deeper than the 2008, the 2004 (also from a long growing season) has developed every bit as well as I had hoped it would when I first tasted the separate components from barrel many years ago. 2007 Castello di Neive "Santo Stefano" Barbaresco
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2007 Castello di Neive "Santo Stefano" Barbaresco (95RP, 94WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Barbaresco Albesani Santo Stefano shows the weight and richness that is typical of this south-facing site in Neive. A rich fabric of dark fruit, fresh roses, new leather and menthol completely cover the palate. The Santo Stefano is impeccable in its generous, enveloping fruit. The intensity and sheer depth of the fruit manages to virtually bury the tannins, but they are there. As delicious as this is today, it will be even better in a few years- time. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027. Castello di Neive, one of the historic producers in Barbaresco, seems to fly under the radar, but the best of the wines are well worth discovering and offer terrific quality for the money. 2010 Conterno Fantino "Vigna del Gris" Barolo
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2010 Conterno Fantino "Vigna del Gris" Barolo (94VN, 93ST, 93WS, 92JS). Vinous: "The 2010 Barolo Vigna del Gris is beautiful, layered and expressive. Sweet tobacco, mint, licorice, crushed flowers and plums meld together in a supple, gracious wine for the year. Sweet rose petals and mint add an attractive upper register of trademark aromatics and perfume as the wine opens up in the glass. The 2010 remains dense and compact, but it is impossible to miss that the tannins here are more refined than has typically been the case with the Gris in the past, which is probably the result of vines getting older. The 2010 needs time to unwind, but it is quite pretty and full of potential. Conterno-Fantino gave the 2010 a year in 100% new French oak, followed by a year in a combination of equal parts barrique and cask. " (01/2014)

2011 Sottimano "Cotta" Barbaresco
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2011 Sottimano "Cotta" Barbaresco (94VN, 92WS). Vinous: "An overachiever in this vintage, the 2011 Barbaresco Cottà is one of the most refined wines I have tasted from this site, where the wines are usually much more overt and powerful in style. Sweet floral and spice notes meld into a core of dark red and black hued stone fruits, tobacco, smoke and new leather. The characteristic pliant, juicy Cottà fruit is there, but it is complemented by expressive floral overtones. There is a pure immediacy to the Cottà that is impossible to miss. (AG)" (10/2014)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2011 Sottimano "Fausoni" Barbaresco (93WE, 91RP, 90WS). Wine Enthusiast: "Crushed raspberry, blue flower, tilled soil and graphite aromas lead the nose on this firmly structured wine. It's still very young and needs to open up fully, but the palate already displays breeding and class. It offers ripe black cherry, ground black pepper, licorice and grilled sage alongside tightly wound but fine tannins. Drink 2018–2026." (12/2014)
