An ample, complex wine, the 2004 fills out in all directions with myriad of aromatics and layers of flavor. Dark red stone fruit, exotic spice, leather and licorice all develop in the glass. 2004 Conterno Fantino "Sorì Ginestra" Barolo
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Conterno Fantino "Sorì Ginestra" Barolo (96RP, 96ST, 96VN, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Conterno-Fantino have once again produced one of the vintage’s finest wines with their stunning 2004 Barolo Sori Ginestra, which is just as impressive in bottle as it has been on the several occasions I have tasted it from barrel. This explosive, heady Barolo bursts onto the palate with seamless layers of ripe dark fruit, black cherries, menthol, cinnamon, pine and minerals, revealing profound depth and richness. It offers superb length, gorgeous, sweet tannins and a finish that lasts forever. Although it is a surprisingly accessible Sori Ginestra at this stage, I expect it will close down at some point in the near future. Readers who have an opportunity to taste this wine in the next few months should not hesitate to do so. This is a remarkable Barolo in every way. (AG)" (12/2007)

1978 Gaja "Costa Russi" Barbaresco
Bid on this bottle of 1978 Gaja "Costa Russi" Barbaresco (93JG). John Gilman: "It had been years since I last tasted the 1978 Gaja Sori Tildin, but based on this stunning showing of the ’78 Costa Russi, I would love to revisit all the Gaja 1978s. The bouquet on the ’78 Costa Russi is magnificent, offering up notes of intense black licorice, cherries, woodsmoke, mace, a touch of venison, sous bois, and tarry notes. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, round, and complex, with just a touch more rusticity than the more refined nose. The wine displays fine depth at the core, and excellent length on the finish. A terrific, fully mature Barbaresco that should continue to drink well for at least another dozen years. What a shame Gaja no longer makes wines in this style. " (01/2006)

1979 Gaja "Sori San Lorenzo" Barbaresco
Bid on this bottle of 1979 Gaja "Sori San Lorenzo" Barbaresco. As reported by Jancis Robinson in June, 2009: "‘We were the first to use the word Sorí’, Angelo pointed out about his first foray into these single vineyard Barbarescos to which Sorí Tildin and Costa Russi were subsequently added. Giovanni had already identified this site as especially promising because of a vein of sand that helped it dry out particularly effectively after rain. The consistency and ageability of its wines have indeed been remarkable."

2000 Giacomo Conterno "Monfortino" Barolo Riserva
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2000 Giacomo Conterno "Monfortino" Barolo Riserva (98VN, 97RP, 96WS, 93ST). Vinous: "I also very much like the 2000 in this flight. A model of total finesse and delicacy, the 2000 doesn’t have the volume or power of the 1997, but it is perhaps just a bit more finessed. Today, the 2000 is a bit shy. What might it blossom into in a few years’ time? I can’t wait to find out. From magnum, the 2000 Monfortino is pure seduction. Tasted from magnum. (AG)" (05/2014)

1974 Gaja Barbaresco
Bid on this bottle of 1974 Gaja Barbaresco. Jancis Robinson: "First impressions are delicate and floral not that forest-floor sweet decay. Even fresher than the 1978. Touch of olive and cherry. 2005 Giuseppe Rinaldi "Brunate Le Coste" Barolo
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2005 Giuseppe Rinaldi "Brunate Le Coste" Barolo (94ST, 92RP, 90VN). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good medium red. Sexy, expressive nose offers plum, redcurrant, mocha, coffee, spices and underbrush. Wonderfully silky and sweet but gripping, with the impression of decadence shown by Rinaldi's wines in ripe years. This has more mid-palate richness to support its big, building tannins than the San Lorenzo-Ravera bottling. Finishes with lovely energy and impressive length. A great success in the context of the year. (ST)" (11/2009)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Roberto Voerzio "Rocche dell Annunziata Torriglione" Barolo (96RP, 96VN, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Voerzio’s 2004 Barolo Rocche dell’Annunziata/Torriglione is a stunning effort. It bursts from the glass with soaring aromatics that lead to a beautifully articulated core of red fruit, sweet spices and mint that is buttressed by finessed, silky tannins that caress the palate. This long, pure Barolo combines the feminine qualities of Cerequio with the structure of Brunate in a compelling, breathtaking glass of wine. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. (AG)" (12/2007)

2004 Giuseppe E Figlio Mascarello "Monprivato" Barolo
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Giuseppe E Figlio Mascarello "Monprivato" Barolo (96RP, 96VN, 92ST, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Mascarello’s 2004 Barolo Monprivato is an explosive wine with an almost Pinot-like expression of purity in its fruit. This round, sweet Barolo is extremely primary at this stage, with tons of dense fruit that almost cover the wine’s tannins completely. Subtle overtones of roses and tar develop in the glass, rounding out this majestic wine. Monprivato is one of the world’s very finest values in collectible, age-worthy wine, and the 2004 is another classic in the making. I was blown away by this wine’s sheer balance and harmony, both of which are remarkable considering the wine’s age. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2034. (AG)" (10/2008)

Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 2005 Bruno Giacosa "Le Rocche del Falletto di Serralunga" Barolo (97VN, 96RP, 95JS, 95ST, 95WS). Vinous: "Bruno Giacosa's 2005 Barolo Le Rocche del Falletto is superb. A big, dramatic wine, the 2005 shows all the power and depth of Serralunga in its broad frame. A host of black cherry, smoke, licorice and tobacco notes envelop the palate as the 2005 gradually unfurls in the glass. Iron, lavender and dried flowers follow. At ten years of age, the 2005 Rocche del Falletto remains an imposing, adolescent wine that will drink beautifully for several decades. (AG)" (07/2016)

2004 Giacomo Conterno "Cascina Francia" Barolo
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2004 Giacomo Conterno "Cascina Francia" Barolo (98VN, 97RP, (91-94ST), 90WS). Vinous: "The 2004 Barolo Cascina Francia boasts staggering depth and explosive intensity from the very first taste. One of the most brooding, backward 2004s, the Cascina Francia is one of the only wines in this vintage that I am slightly disappointed to have opened, as it is so intensely backward. Hints of sage, tobacco, menthol, rose petal and graphite open up in the glass, recalling just how mesmerizing the 2004 was in cask. At once silky, while at other times virile, the 2004 Cascina Francia is constantly changing in the glass. The multiple shades of nuance and complexity are those of Nebbiolo from a great site as expressed by one of the region's historic families. The price of Monfortino has escalated rapidly over the last few years, but by comparison, the 2004 Cascina Francia is still available in the market and represents a good relative value.
