2002 Domaine Faiveley Corton Grand Cru "Clos des Corton Faiveley"
Bid on this bottle of 2002 Domaine Faiveley Corton Grand Cru "Clos des Corton Faiveley" (96VN, (90-93BH), (91-93ST)). Vinous: "The same can't be said about the Faiveley's 2002 Corton Clos des Cortons, which was tight and imposing from the very first taste. Still, it was impossible to miss the wine's huge center of fruit, phenomenal balance and massive potential for the future. What a gorgeous wine!" (02/2012)

Bid on this magnum lot of 2002 Domaine Faiveley Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru (1.5L) ((91-93BH)). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Always one of Faiveley's best wines and the '02 is no exception with an incredibly complex nose of damp earth, minerals, game and a slightly wild fruit component followed by wonderfully sappy, deep, broad, muscular flavors and knock-out purity of expression. I very much like this and the finish is long and strikingly persistent." (01/2004)

2002 Domaine Maume Gevrey-Chambertin
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2002 Domaine Maume Gevrey-Chambertin. Allen Meadows - Burghound: "There remains a touch of reduction with ripe and earthy red pinot fruit nose with more earth on the palate as the sweet and sappy flavors deliver plenty of mid-palate punch. There is ample length here and this is clearly a lovely villages. Note: Maume said that a bottle opened a week before had no reduction but I would suggest decanting this for 20 minutes or so first if you wish to try one young." (01/2005)

2002 Ruinart "Dom Ruinart" Brut Rosé Champagne
Bid on this bottle of 2002 Ruinart "Dom Ruinart" Brut Rosé Champagne (96VN, 95JS, 95ST, 95W&S, 94WE, 94WS). Vinous: "A mysterious, beguiling beauty, the 2002 Dom Ruinart Rosé boasts fabulous intensity and pure resonance. Tangerine, exotic spices, mint, crushed rose petals and sweet red berries blossom in the glass. Still, my impression is that the 2002 is holding back much of its ultimate potential, as it remains tight and much less expressive than so many other wines of the year. When the 2002 finally emerges fully, it is going to be truly monumental. Disgorged September 2012. 96+ (AG)" (11/2014)

2002 Chateau Montelena "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 2002 Chateau Montelena "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (96RP, 93ST, 93WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This young, classic Cabernet Sauvignon represents the quintessential traditional school of Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. It possesses an inky/blue/purple color in addition to a tight, but promising nose of black currants, crushed rocks, earth and spice. Rich, full-bodied, pure and brilliantly executed, with perfect harmony, this is a sensational yet forebodingly backward, youthful Cabernet Sauvignon that needs 4-6 years of cellaring and should keep another quarter of a century. 96+ (RP)" (06/2012)

A flamboyant wine with a sensational nose of blackberry liqueur, melted licorice, acacia flowers, crushed stones, and a hint of blueberries, it is seamlessly assembled with fabulous concentration, an expansive, full-bodied palate, and an amazingly long finish that lasts well over a minute. 2002 Léoville-Poyferré, St-Julien
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2002 Léoville-Poyferré, St-Julien (90RP, 90ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine has completely shut down since it’s been bottled but exhibits a saturated ruby/purple color, high levels of tannin, and sweet, noble black currant fruit intermixed with some licorice, espresso roast, and pain grille. In the vernacular, it is closed for business, with medium to full body, high levels of tannin, and good acidity in a more structured, classic style than the 2003. This is a big, traditionally made wine to forget for a good 5-8 years. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2020. (RP)" (04/2005)

2002 Sine Qua Non "Just for the Love of It" Syrah
Bid on this bottle of 2002 Sine Qua Non "Just for the Love of It" Syrah (100RP, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A dead-ringer (at least aromatically) for Guigal’s single vineyard Cote Rotie La Mouline, the 2002 Just For The Love of It is the greatest California Syrah I have yet tasted. A one-thousand case blend of 96% Syrah, 2% Grenache, and 2% Viognier, it is nearly equal parts Alban, Bien Nacido, and Stolpman fruit with a small amount from both Shadow Canyon and White Hawk. It boasts a provocative perfume of creme de cassis, toast, blackberries, licorice, barbecue spice, and exotic floral scents. Extremely full-bodied, with fabulous intensity, great purity, awesome length, and a finish that lasts over a minute, this classic is a must purchase. Already accessible, it will drink well for 10-15 years. (RP)" (08/2004)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2002 Domaine Jean Tardy Clos Vougeot Grand Cru "Grand Maupertuis". Rich and meaty, on the nose, with rich dark fruit on the palate. 2002 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2002 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac (94RP, (91-94ST), 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the best wines of the vintage, this is a classic Pauillac that is a blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Petit Verdot. Dense ruby/purple in color with a glorious nose of melted licorice, lavender, barbecue smoke, black currants, and graphite, the wine is tannic, classically structured with an opaque ruby/purple color, beautiful definition, and a 1996-ish personality. This deep, full-bodied, elegant yet powerful 2002 should age handsomely for over two decades. Some patience will be required since this vintage exhibits more muscle and virility than normal. Bid on this bottle of 2002 Domaine de Montille Volnay 1er Cru "Les Taillepieds" ((92-94BH), 91ST, 90WS). Allen Meadows - Burghound: " *Outstanding* Incredibly dense black fruit of remarkable complexity gives way to what may be the most concentrated mid-palate of the entire range with spicy, pure, deep, broad, indeed almost masculine flavors that possess absolutely stunning length. A great Taillepieds in the making and while the tannins are abundant and prominent, they are also fine. In short, this is a real stunner of a wine that should age for years and may very well be the Taillepieds of the vintage. " (04/2004)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2002 Dom Pérignon "Andy Warhol Trubute" Brut Champagne (OWC - 98VN, 96RP, 96W&S, 95WS) in original wood. Vinous: "The 2002 Dom Pérignon speaks to opulence and intensity. Rich, layered and voluptuous in the glass, the 2002 shows off its flamboyant personality with flair. Butter, cooked apple and tropically-leaning fruits mesh together effortlessly. Interestingly, with time in the glass the 2002 gains in freshness and energy without losing its essential opulence. The elevated ripeness of the year gives the 2002 Dom Pérignon distinctly Puligny-Montrachet leaning inflections...This is yet another fabulous showing from the 2002, which continues to cement its reputation as a truly epic Dom Pérignon." Plush, fine-grained and youthful, conveying excellent energy to its raspberry and cherry flavors. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins and a late hint of truffle. I wanted a bit more detail--but then this wine appears still to be short of full maturity. (ST)" (02/2016)

There is a distinct sauvage quality and this will require a few years to come around though there is a softness to the structure that will permit it to be enjoyed relatively young, at least by the standards of red Corton. 2002 Domaine Nicolas Rossignol Volnay 1er Cru "Caillerets"
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2002 Domaine Nicolas Rossignol Volnay 1er Cru "Caillerets". Like many of Nicolas' wines, this is not bottled as domaine grown, not, however, because he buys wine from someone else. On the contrary, it is because he is a sharecropper. He could legally bottle 1/2 of the wine from this vineyard, and call it Domaine Rossignol. But the other, identical half, belongs to the vineyard owner, and he has to buy the wine he grew and made from them. To do so, he has to have a negociant's license and then can only sell the wine as a negociant wine, even though he grew the grapes, made the wine, bottled the wine, and sold it. Ah, the joys of French law. Or as they say in Burgundy, La Douce France. (Keith Wollenberg, K&L Burgundy buyer) And Clive Coates writes: "Fragrant, plump and stylish. Very elegant. Medium full body. Cool and composed. Very good acidity. This is fat, round and ample. Quite fat. Long. Very good indeed." (The Vine, 02/004)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2002 Michel Lafarge Volnay 1er Cru "Clos du Château des Ducs" (94VN, 92BH, (89-92RP), 92ST). Vinous: "(tasted from a 375-ml. bottle): Healthy dark red. Knockout nose offers musky, wild red berries, truffle and dried flowers, plus a balsamic nuance. Voluminous, tactile and deep; wonderfully generous and full, with the sweetness of fruit to give great pleasure right now. The very long finish features big but fine-grained tannins. This is remarkably fresh considering the bottle format; in fact, Michel Lafarge noted that the same wine from 750s was still closed. (I'm guessing that the regular bottles will go on for at least another 15 to 20 years.) (ST)" (02/2016)
