2004 Giancarlo Rocca "Ronchi" Barbaresco (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum lot of 2004 Giancarlo Rocca "Ronchi" Barbaresco (1.5L). From importer North Berkeley Imports: "For more than four generations, the Rocca family has lived surrounded by the vines of the ‘Ronchi’ cru in Barbaresco. The vineyards are part of the family; winemaker Giancarlo Rocca can walk from his breakfast table to his Nebbiolo vines in less than a minute. Needless to say all work is performed by hand, and as naturally as possible. No herbicides or pesticides are used. Grapes are harvested by hand, destemmed, then fermented in temperature-controlled, stainless steel tanks. Wines are aged for two years either in Slavonian oak casks or French oak barrels, depending on the wine. All wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered."

2009 Aldo Conterno "Bussia" Barolo
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Aldo Conterno "Bussia" Barolo (93RP, 91JS, 91ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Barolo Bussia is a magnificent wine that makes a bold opening statement thanks to the high caliber and intensity of its bouquet. Power and sheer determination set the wine on course smoothly over the palate and the quality of the tannin is firm and tense. The wine presents fruit characteristics of dried cherry and cassis that are not too obvious but are soon followed by delicate tobacco, Indian spice, cola, tar and licorice. It’s a picture-perfect young Barolo for 2009. (ML)" (06/2013)

2008 Francesco Rinaldi "Le Brunate" Barolo
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Francesco Rinaldi "Le Brunate" Barolo (94RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Barolo Le Brunate is quite a bit richer, deeper and more powerful than the Cannubbio, as one might reasonably expect. Here the fruit boasts tons of pure resonance and stuffing while never losing its essential classicism. Plums, black cherries, leather, tar and licorice meld together, supported by firm yet beautifully integrated tannins. The 2008 Brunate is an explosive wine just waiting to emerge. When it does, it should be striking. Actually, it already is. (AG)" (10/2012)

2007 Domenico Clerico "Ciabot Mentin" Barolo
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2007 Domenico Clerico "Ciabot Mentin" Barolo (98RP, 95JS, 95ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Barolo Ciabot Mentin is one of the greatest wines I have ever tasted at this address. Deep, sensual layers of fruit flow from the glass as this full-throttle, intense Barolo reveals its profound, breathtaking personality. The 2007 shows tons of Ginestra nuance, but with extra dimensions to the fruit that literally covers every nook and cranny of the palate. Tasting this next to the 2006 is quite a comparison, as both wines are fabulous. Readers who can should be sure to own bottles of both. A side-by-side comparison is sure to be fascinating as the wines develop over the coming years. Astute readers will note the slight name change here, which is the result of new regulations that require the use of the historic vineyard name, in this case Ginestra, or a proprietary name. Call me nostalgic, but it is sad to see one of the iconic labels in Barolo disappea

1997 Luigi Pira "Margheria" Barolo
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1997 Luigi Pira "Margheria" Barolo (92RP, 90ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Luigi Pira, who has the most massive hands I have ever encountered on a vigneron, has fashioned a more structured effort with his 1997 Barolo Margheria. This wine has become more delineated and civilized after spending time in cask and foudre. Tell-tale notes of kirsch liqueur, dried flowers, rose petals, licorice, soy, leather, and tobacco combine with scents of seaweed, chocolate, and red/black fruits. The Margheria possesses firm tannin and muscle. It is a sensationally concentrated, full-bodied, powerful Barolo in need of 2-4 years of cellaring. It should drink well between 2004-2020. 1997 Marengo Barolo "Brunate"
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1997 Marengo Barolo "Brunate" (93ST, 91WS). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Superbly rich, burnished nose of cherry, strawberry, nuts and smoke. Lush and highly aromatic in the mouth, with compellingly sweet flavors of flowers and truffle. Chewy and deep. Finishes with very fine tannins and sexy oak notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and mace. Impeccably judged extraction here. Much more forward than the '96 version-in fact, delicious already. (ST)" (11/2000)

Full-bodied, with superrefined tannins and a long, caressing finish. A very classy wine. This is so long and beautiful. Lasts for minutes on the palate. Best after 2014. (JS)" (09/2008)
