1988 Pierre Bourée Fils Clos de Vougeot
Bid on this bottle of 1988 Pierre Bourée Fils Clos de Vougeot. The Bourée family approaches winemaking as it has since its founding in 1864: carefully, deliberately, with an eye toward tradition. No wonder these are age-worthy gems. Indeed, they demand cellar time before they open up to the drinker. The Burgundy Report agrees: "These wines need – indeed beg – time in the cellar, and from what I tasted their blend of elegance and aromaticity deserves to be successful – I only hope that there is still sufficient patience in today’s marketplace for Burgundy wines that need to be cellared." Wine Spectator: "Ripe, opulent and complex, this smoothly burnished wine is glowing with plush, toasty berry and cherry flavors that hint at vanilla and nutmeg on the long, polished finished. Seductive now, but should be at its best after 1993 to '94. " (07/1990)

Bid on this magnum lot of 2009 Domaine Lucien Boillot & Fils Gevrey-Chambertin "Les Cherbaudes" (1.5L) (93RP, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cherbaudes flows from the glass with tremendous depth and richness. Dark blue and black fruit, violets and licorice are some of the many nuances that emerge over time as the wine becomes more delicate and feminine with air. This is another 2009 endowed with considerable freshness and verve. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029. (AG)" (04/2012)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2007 Domaine Arnaud Ente Meursault 1er Cru "La Goutte d'Or" (91RP, 91ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Ente’s 2007 Meursault Gouttes d’Or exhibits stony and briny elements one might have predicted given both the site and the wines that went before in his vintage collection. A lovely counterpoint between bright citrus and salt on the one hand and toasted grains and nuts with a hint of honey on the other lends this a distinctive dynamic and – for all of its overtly mineral cast – considerable charm. Zesty, invigorating, and palpably chalky in its long finish, this promises future richness...(DS)" (12/2009)

Bid on this magnum lot of 2011 Hubert Lamy St-Aubin 1er Cru "Les Frionnes" (1.5L) (91BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "*** Outstanding - Top Value *** This is not quite as elegant but it's every bit as aromatically complex with its nose of essence of pear, dried flowers and citrus peel scents. There is a relatively generous mouth feel to the tension-filled and impressively precise and intense flavors that are even more saline in character, indeed this seems borderline salty on the otherwise clean and very dry finish. This too is most impressive." (06/2013)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Alex Gambal Volnay 1er Cru "Santenots" ((89-92BH)). 89-92 and another Key Buy from Allen Meadows: "And ultra pure red pinot fruit nose that offers supplementary hints of violets, spice and a trace of warm earth that can also be found on the supple but entirely serious flavors that stain and coat the palate on the beautifully long finale. This is terrific and while it seems quite forward the sap disguises the tannins and I suspect this will firm up substantially once in bottle." (Burghound, 04/07)

2001 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 2001 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru (93BH, 92ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A mature yet attractively fresh nose offers up floral, earthy and spicy red berry fruit aromas that are showing traces of secondary development and are trimmed in just enough wood to notice. There is a really lovely mouth feel to the beautifully well-detailed middle weight flavors that display a subtle mineral streak before culminating in a complex, balanced and lingering finish where a touch of the wood influence resurfaces. There isn't much unresolved tannin remaining and for my taste this has arrived on the front edge of its peak drinkability though it should remain here for at least another decade. 2001 is an elegant vintage for this wine and I very much like it.\" (04/2013)

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "*** Sweet Spot - Outstanding *** A very ripe nose of black and blue berry fruit aromas nuanced by obvious minerality and hints of underbrush complement perfectly the impeccably balanced and concentrated flavors that explode on the sweet and hyper intense finish that goes on and on. This is a big Volnay built on a base of stone and the intense minerality defines the '05 Taillepieds from stem to stern as it were. In a word, gorgeous. Drink 2015+" (04/2007)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (95JS, 94BH, 93W&S). James Suckling: "My birthday celebration night in Hong Kong moved on from Moët & Chandon and Dom Pérignon 2000 to a 2005 Bonneau de Martray Corton-Charlemange, which is an old favorite of mine for great white Burgundy. I often say that great Corton-Charlemagne is a red wine masquerading as a white wine because it can be so structured and textured. This 2005 was certainly like that. Some say that Bonneau de Martray went down in quality in the 1990s but then came back in the 2000s. The 2005 that we drank was excellent quality. It was a tightly structured white with sliced apples, lemon meringue and an exquisite cream character. It was full body and silky-textured, showing a dense and beautiful palate. It still needs at least two or three years to open and show its true quality." (06/2016)

This shows marvelous tension and energy, not to mention fabulous overall balance. It could not be more different in style than the 2009 tasted alongside it. Both are fabulous, though. Despite the muscular aspect, this is essentially an elegant wine that is more in the vein of a gymnast than a weight lifter." (Burghound, 05/2011)

Very ripe, slightly exotic aromas of raspberry, mocha and underbrush. Highly concentrated and deep; opulent and lightly saline but a bit sullen today. Most impressive right now on the very long, slowly mounting finish, which really camps out on the palate. 1969 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanee-Conti Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 1969 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanee-Conti Grand Cru (90BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "(from a bottle with < 5 cm of ullage). 1969 was generally an excellent vintage in Burgundy and while many wines have begun to tire in the last few years, it has stayed the course reasonably well. Unfortunately, the DRC '69s, while still pretty, are not among the vintage's best even if they are wines of obvious quality. Completely bricked through. Easily the best part of the '69 RC is the nose with its soaring aromas of sous bois, caramel, brown sugar, a lovely range of spice nuances and animale undertones that give way to sweet, round and detailed middle weight flavors that reveal perhaps a bit more minerality than usual while culminating in a still focused and equally sweet finish of solid if not sensational length. The structure is almost completely resolved and I would be drinking this now and over the next decade but probably not longer than that as the wine risks

2012 J.-F. Coche-Dury Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 2012 J.-F. Coche-Dury Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (97RP, 95BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Raphel Coche told me that the 2012 Corton Charlemagne was the only vineyard that escaped hail damage this year. It has a very succinct nose, not predisposed to go out and grab you by the lapels. The aromatics unfurl with a sense of ease prioritizing finesse over power: beeswax, linden, lemon thyme and fresh pear. The palate is exquisitely balanced with fleeting glimpses of Seville orange and apricot. But there is more about the tension, the effortlessness and that it just rolls out across the finish like a huge Turkish rug. This is the kind of wine that exhausts superlatives. 97+ Points (NM)" (06/2015)

Bid on this bottle of 2001 Domaine J-F Mugnier Musigny Grand Cru (95VN, 94BH). Vinous: "Full medium red. Compellingly fresh, complex nose combines wild raspberry, minerals, smoked meat and mint. Wonderfully fine-grained and sappy, with its red berry, coffee and leather flavors conveying a distinctly youthful character. Boasts a terric spine of firm, integrated acidity and suave tannins and builds slowly and steadily on the rising finish. Great class here. Frédéric Mugnier recalled that he was quite happy with the quality of the 2001 tannins at the beginning and that he loves this vintage. "The wines were always very pretty but now they show more structure," he told me. He added that he would still wait longer to drink this wine "for more complexity and polish."" (04/2017)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Bouchard Pere & Fils Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Lavaux Saint-Jacques" (91RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A crisp red-berried nose with superb definition and vigour. Lots of brambly fruit, touch of freshly rolled tobacco leaf. The palate is a little earthy but very natural and harmonious with chewy tannins on the mid-palate and a fresh, vigorous finish. Very fine. Tasted January 2007. (NM)" (01/2007)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine de la Pousse d'Or Pommard 1er Cru "Jarollieres" ((91-93BH), 92ST, 91RP). Allen Meadows - Burghound: " *Sweet spot Outstanding* By contrast, here the intense, elegant, airy and almost startlingly fresh red berry fruit nose is expressive to the point of exuberance as the nose explodes from the glass with a flourish to reveal delicious, rich and full yet beautifully delineated and ultra pure flavors that are focused, linear and penetrating on the distinctly mineral-infused finish. This is a really lovely and sophisticated Pommard that bears more than a passing resemblance to its ‘across the border’ Volnay neighbor Frémiets." (04/2007)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Bruno Clair Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Cazetiers" (93BH, (91-93RP), 91ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Even more concentrated and densely-constructed than the Clos du Fonteny, the Clair 2005 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers smells of ripe blackberries, strong coffee, licorice and wet stone. Superbly-ripe but abundant tannins undergird a mouthful of ripe fruit, with strong mineral character grabbing the baton in the final lap. This embryonic bundle of fruit, mineral and energy will I suspect need at least 5-7 years to properly give of itself. (DS)" (06/2007)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine des Varoilles Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Clos des Varoilles" (93BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "The expressive and lightly wooded nose displays some wisps of secondary development on the pomegranate, spice, earth and sauvage hints. The dense, serious and intense medium weight plus flavors possess plenty of palate coating dry extract along with excellent power on the still firmly tannic and moderately austere finish. This is a big and robust wine that's going to require at least another decade before it reaches its full maturity." (11/2015)

2005 Domaine de Montille Pommard 1er Cru "Les Pézerolles"
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine de Montille Pommard 1er Cru "Les Pézerolles" ((92-93RP), 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "De Montille’s 2005 Pommard Pezerolles displays hints of herbs and flowers, then pungent cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, metal shavings and crushed stone. Ripe spiced raspberry and cassis with soy-like savor make for an expansive rich display on the palate, where fine tannins are appropriately reined-in. This finishes with real thrust, and intense spice and mineral adjuncts to its ripe fruit. Rather than the clarity and elegance of the Grands Epenots, one gets a more opaque sense of richness here and a more obvious sense of density. This appellation – representing one of, if not the largest surface area of the estate – has been on a roll of late, and that is not by accident. De Montille reasserted control in 1999 over management of the vines and has been working to bring out a quality potential that need not take a back seat to Grands Epenots or Rugiens. (

This is a high quality villages from perhaps the most gifted site in Pommard for its level. Recommended. Drink: 2013+" (01/2007)

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "*Sweet Spot Outstanding* (from a parcel measuring .37 ha that was planted in 1947; also aged in 50% new wood) Here the wood treatment is a good deal less evident with an equally fresh and bright nose that offers a bit more breadth as well as even more elegance that continues to the pure, refined, textured and detailed flavors that also brim with minerality on the racy and transparent finish. 2005 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Volnay 1er Cru "Santenots-du-Milieu"
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Volnay 1er Cru "Santenots-du-Milieu" (95RP, 94BH, 94ST, 94VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Having tasted this three or four times in the past, I probably have under-rated this wine because it is such a long-term proposition. The 2005 Volnay Santenot has a dense, almost impenetrable bouquet that demands considerable aeration to unveil its multi-layered aromatic profile of creme de cassis, raspberry, blackberry and a veneer of new oak that needs several more years to be fully absorbed (indeed, it feels like more than the one-third new oak that Dominique uses). The palate is full-bodied with a sweet, succulent entry. It is beautifully balanced, vivacious and sensual with a dab of alcohol on the finish. It is far too young to broach at the moment, but it will develop with style over the next three decades. Drink 2018-2035. Tasted September 2013. (NM)" (12/2013)

Of the 2005 Domaine Henri Boillot Volnay 1er Cru "Les Chevrets",Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar writes: "Bright red-ruby. Captivating dark raspberry and floral aromas. Dense yet delicate and lacy, with lovely juicy acidity giving the peppery red fruit flavors terrific energy and thrust for the year. A much more feminine style of Volnay than the Fremiets or Caillerets. Finishes pure, peppery, brisk and very long, with lovely lingering perfume. (ST)" (03/2008)

2005 Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des Chênes"
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des Chênes" (92BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: " The ripe and dense nose of earthy and softly spicy dark pinot fruit aromas is beginning to display some secondary development. Consistent with the nose there is some secondary development evident on the big-bodied, bold and solidly well-concentrated flavors that possess fine complexity on the impressively long and delicious finale. The supporting tannins are largely but not completely resolved and I would describe this as having reached the front edge of its peak drinkability. That said it seems clear that the '05 Clos des Chênes should be capable of holding at this level for many years to come. In short, this is a really lovely effort that has fulfilled all of the promise that I originally saw. Drink: Now+" (05/2015)

Of the 2005 Domaine Dupont-Tisserandot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Cazetiers",Allen Meadows - Burghound writes: "A very ripe extract of black pinot fruit nose liberally laced with cassis and warm earth nuances introduces rich, full and mouth coating flavors that are equally ripe, powerful, textured and explosive on the hugely long finish. Allen Meadows - Burghound: "*Outstanding* (from a .2 ha parcel planted in 1954) The barest trace of wood frames a more deeply pitched and notably ripe mix of red, black and violet aromas where the earth influence is more pronounced and gives way to rich, full and relatively big well-muscled flavors that offer good power and punch yet the finish is sweet, vibrant and driving.
