2004 Domaine Faiveley Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2004 Domaine Faiveley Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru ((91-93BH), 93WE, 91ST). Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* From a 3.75-acre parcel of this grand cru, this is stunning red Burgundy, amazingly complex, lushly fruited and—yes—ageworthy. Plum and black cherry flavors lead the way, but they're joined by notes of meat, earth, wild game, mushroom and saddle leather. Full and lush in the mouth, this is richly tannic but not hard, as some vintages have been in the past." (11/2006)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2000 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Cailles" ((89-92BH)). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is usually a big step up from the preceding wines and though this is an excellent wine, it is not clearly superior to the Pruliers. Wonderful black fruit aromas introduce relatively big flavors of exceptional intensity buffered by lots of sève. Pure, classy and elegant with knockout length." (01/2002)

2005 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Cailles"
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Cailles" ((92-94BH), (93-94RP), 92JG, 91ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As if there were not enough stony minerality in the Pruliers, the 2005 Nuits-St.-Georges Les Cailles lives up to its name, tasting as though its fruit had been macerated on cherry pits and pebbles. Its bitter-sweetness extends to notes of vanilla and chocolate that accent a deep black fruit concentration. Vivid, palpable density and old vines creaminess on the palate lead to a richly fruited but not at all superficially sweet, deeply meaty, and decidedly chalk- and stone-inflected finish of amazing refinement and penetration, indeed of Grand Cru length. Bid on this bottle of 2013 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Échézeaux Grand Cru (94VN, 93DC, 92BH, 92RP). Vinous: "Healthy dark red. An initial note of reduction dissipated to reveal sexy scents of raspberry, blueberry, smoky minerals and Oriental spices. Densely packed and vibrant, with concentrated berry fruit accented by pepper and spices from the stems. Firm tannins will support slow development in bottle. There's way more inner-mouth tension and éclat here than I found in the Echézeaux. An outstanding vintage for this bottling. (ST)" (03/2016)

Allen Meadows - Burghound: " This also displays notes of pear, white flowers and hazelnut along with hints of wood toast and oak spice. The medium-bodied plus flavors are rich and generous yet retain a fine sense of underlying tension while displaying a remarkably persistent, palate coating and highly complex finale. This relatively powerful effort is clearly built-to-age and is going to need most of a decade to arrive at its full apogee. *Outstanding. Top Value*" (06/2016)

Bid on this bottle of 2006 Domaine Hudelot-Noellat Richebourg Grand Cru (94BH, (92-94VN)). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Initially this was somewhat like the 2006 RSV as the nose was reduced though unlike the RSV the reduction rapidly blew off to reveal an intensely spicy and layered dark berry fruit nose that remains entirely primary and youthful. There is excellent intensity to the tautly muscular, cool and mineral-inflected big-boned flavors that are supported by a firm tannic spine on the powerfully long and driving finish. This highly promising effort is still very much on the way up and should age beautifully for years." (04/2015)

Bid on this bottle of 2010 Lucien Le Moine Bienvenues-Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru ((94-96RP), (92-95ST)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Slow out of the gates, the 2010 Bienvenue-Batard-Montrachet starts off subtly, then literally explodes on the mid-palate. Honey, almonds, tangerine and flowers are some of the many nuances that are laced throughout this utterly refined, impeccable Burgundy. The 2010 is intensely perfumed and delicate throughout. The delineated, vibrant aromas and flavors all mesh together on the huge, layered finish. Dazzling pretty much sums it up. (AG)" (08/2012)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Les St. Georges" ((95-96RP), (92-95ST), (92-94BH)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Nuits-St.-Georges Les St.-Georges again illustrates roasted richness and a seamless meld of meat, fruit and mineral. Hints of tar and toasted pecan add further aromatic complexity. Dramatically expansive and mouth-coating, with endless variations – distilled, fresh, sorbet-like – on black cherry, purple plum, and their pits, this wine weaves tar, iodine, and chalk into its supremely long finish. The incipiently velvety texture and fineness of tannin are remarkable for so young a wine. Few Grand Cru offerings from 2005 can surpass this Les St.-Georges, a wine I would cellar for a decade before even re-assessing. (DS)" (04/2007)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1999 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Les St-Georges" (94JG, (90-92BH), (90-92RP), (90-92ST)). John Gilman: "The ’99 Chevillon Les St. Georges is either more refined or more forward (or both) than the Vaucrains, and it is really surprisingly easy to drink at such a young age. The bouquet is outstanding, offering up a complex and elegant mélange of pure cherry fruit, red plums, just a bit of the medicinal tones of Nuits St. Georges, walnuts, really lovely minerality, a pungent violet topnote and just a bit of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and very velvety on the attack (is this really young Nuits?), with a sappy core of fruit, ripe tannins, modest acids, and a very long, palate-staining finish. This wine is fascinating in that it is both sweet with fruit and soil-driven at the same time. I have a hard time not believing that this will be one of the reference vintages of this wine in another ten to fifteen years. "

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2013 Maison Ilan Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru "Aux Charmes Haute" . Allen Meadows writes: "Another American has succumbed to the siren call of Burgundy and could not have picked a more propitious vintage in which to do so. Ray Walker, like me and many others that I know, was once in finance and found another calling in the world of wine...Walker's philosophy is really very simple: pick ripe fruit, handle it respectfully and the less you handle it, the better. In other words, it's a combination of let the wine make itself through a benign yet respectful 'less is more' approach. To this end, there are no pumps and virtually no new wood and bottling will be done without fining or filtration...we'll see how this philosophy holds up in more challenging vintages. But after having an in-depth philosophical discussion with this exceedingly polite, well-spoken and humble young man, it didn't take me very long to understand that Walker 'gets it', which is to say he kn

Knockout grand cru aromas of macerated berries, licorice, jasmine, animal fur, tar and exotic baking spices; a great example of Bonnes-Mares, showing both the floral and animal aspects of the cru. Fills the mouth with sappy sucrosity, lifted by a strong floral element. A wine of great energy, finishing with firm but sweet tannins. John Gilman: "The 2004 Les St. Georges is the aristocrat of the cellar, and while it may not quite have the same power as the Vaucrains, it is the most complex young wine here. The nose is deep, refined and shows outstanding complexity for such a young bottle of Nuits, offering up notes of black cherries, red plums, layers of minerality, a bit of the game to come, woodsmoke, bitter chocolate, a hint of violet (though not as floral as the Cailles) and a delicate framing of vanillin oak. Otherwise, the medium weight flavors are extremely rich, delicious, deep and beautifully complex with outstanding concentration. Assuming the nose is ultimately a match for the flavors, this could merit the top of the range. Jacques Seysses, and his son Jeremy who is responsible for the Fils et Père and the white wines, told me that 2002 was a 'return to normal. We destemmed 40% in 2001 and we think that was the right decision as many domaines extracted too much tannin. In 2002, we destemmed only 10 to 15% of the crop and we did mostly whole cluster fermentation. We also did more punch downs early before the alcohol was really an extraction facilitator. Yields were significantly lower in 2002 at around 30 hl/ha for the grands crus (compared to 40 hl/ha in 2001) up to 40 hl/ha at the villages level. But it's i

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Of all the Chevillon wines, their 2005 Nuits-St.-Georges Les Vaucrains -- like their Cailles and Les St.-Georges, from roughly 80-year-old vines -- displays the greatest density, stoniest minerality, most piquant nuttiness, and deepest, darkest, blackberry and beet root 'fruit' character. The overall impression is breath-taking in its sheer concentration, yet rather somber and brooding in personality, with an emphasis on piquancy, bitterness and stoniness. Toasted walnut and hickory, cherry pits, black chocolate, stones, and charred meat inform this wine’s powerful, penetrating finish. Were it not for a persistent primary blackberry juiciness and the great refinement of its abundant tannins, this would border on the hyper-concentrated. (DS)" (04/2007)

2001 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Vaucrains"
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2001 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Vaucrains" (93VN, 91BH, (90-91RP)). Vinous: "Inviting scents of plum and truffle come across as fresh for a 15-year-old bottle. Not hugely fleshy but still plump in the middle in the context of the vintage--and more primary than a majority of the wines I tasted for this report. Plum and spice flavors dominate today and carry well on the finish, where the firm tannins arrive late to dust the palate. In a very lively style, this premier cru can be enjoyed now but barely tastes like a mature wine. For his part, Bertrand Chevillon pointed out that the 2001s were hard to taste at the beginning but have rounded out. (ST)" (04/2017)
