2010 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2010 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape (99RP, 98WS, 96ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape flirts with perfection. A classic blend of 65% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre and the rest Syrah, Vaccarese and Counoise, all aged in large foudres in Clos des Papes's air-conditioned and humidity-controlled wine cellar, the wine boasts a dense purple color along with lots of gorgeously pure black raspberry, black currant and kirsch liqueur notes intermixed with notions of spring flowers, tapenade, licorice and spice box. This dense, full-bodied, powerful Chateauneuf is also remarkably fresh and well-delineated. It even exceeded the 2007 in natural alcohol, coming in at 15.9%. With an extraordinary texture and considerable tannin in the finish, it will benefit from 3-5 years of bottle age, and is built for 25-30 years of cellaring. Don't miss it! This admirably run estate has essentially been practicing biodynamic farming for nearly 15 years, but

2005 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Tasting Lot
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Tasting Lot, including 1-bottle of 2005 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape (98WS, 95RP, 95ST) and 2-bottles of 2005 Domaine de la Charbonnière "Cuvée Mourre des Perdix" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (94WS, 92ST, 90RP). Of the 2005 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape,Wine Spectator writes: "**#1 in Top 100 Wines of 2007 & Collectibles designation** Really tight now, but packed with dark fig, currant, espresso, licorice and chocolate notes. Superfleshy but seriously structured, there's layer after layer of sweet spice, fruit and minerality pumping through the finish, with lots of latent depth and power. Far more backward than the 2003 or 2004 on release, but since this red typically puts on weight as it ages, it should be a monster--à la the 1990--when it reaches its peak." (12/2007)

The embedded grip should carry the finish until this assimilates fully. Best from 2014 through 2024. (JS)" (10/2011)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape (which tips the scales around 15% natural alcohol) is a great example of traditional Chateauneuf du Pape winemaking. A dense dark ruby color is followed by a sexy nose of raspberries, ground pepper, spice box, damp earth, kirsch and dark currants. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2007 Domaine de la Mordorée "Reine des Bois" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (97RP, (93-96ST), 96WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Evolving beautifully, the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de La Reine des Bois has shed some of its crazy tannin and is showing a more layered, voluptuous profile. Possessing beautiful kirsch, blackberry, candied licorice, flowers and lavender, it offers knockout richness and decadence to go with brilliant purity of fruit, superb concentration, and a full-bodied, layered mouthfeel. While I don’t think it matches the ’01 or ’10, it’s an incredible bottle of wine that can be consumed anytime over the coming 10-15 years. (JD)" (08/2014)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The dense purple-colored 2009 Cornas Granite 60 Vieilles Vignes exhibits aromas of black raspberries, blackberries, licorice, camphor, subtle barbecue smoke and meat juices. This full-bodied, massive 2009 needs at least 5-6 years of bottle age. It should keep for 20-25 years. While the 2009s are softer and more accessible (because of lower acids and more opulent textures), they are extremely large-scaled, substantial reds that will benefit from a few more years of cellaring. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1996 Rayas Château de Fonsalette Côtes-du-Rhone Reserve (90RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1996 Fonsalette Cotes du Rhone boasts a dense ruby/purple color, as well as a chocolatey, blackberry, super-concentrated palate impression, and considerable body. This wine is atypically massive for this vintage. Muscular and structured, with huge fruit and richness, it was made from fully ripened fruit and an extremely late harvest. Bid on this 8-bottle lot of 2007 Domaine Vincent Paris "Granit 60" Cornas ((91-93RP), 92ST, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "More crushed rock, graphite, and scorched earth notes as well as additional structure and tannin are evident in the inky/purple-tinged 2007 Cornas Granite 60 Vieilles Vignes. This dense, full-bodied effort reveals moderately sweet tannin and decent acidity. It should be drinkable in 2-3 years, and keep for 15 years. These impressive, quasi-modern-styled Cornas reveal the influence of barrique aging, but there is no doubting their savage blast of blue and black fruits as well as spring flowers. In 2007, Paris has added a third cuvee from one of the most highly respected vineyard sites high on the steep hills of Cornas, La Geynale. 91-93+ (RP)" (04/2009)

1989 Gentaz-Dervieux "Cuvée Réservée Côte Brune" Côte-Rôtie
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1989 Gentaz-Dervieux "Cuvée Réservée Côte Brune" Côte-Rôtie. Robert Parker, Jr. writes in his 1997 Rhône book, "One of Côte-Rôtie's greatest winemakers, Marius Gentas, who is brother-in-law of Albert Dervieux, used to produce a mere 600-800 cases of wine from his three acres of vines on the Côte Brune. Consequently, his winemaking genius was never widely known. Gentaz's wines are now even more impossible to find since he leased to Rene Rostaing all of his old vineyards except for a 1-acre parcel of 65-year old vines on the Côte Brune. I have always found his wines to be among the finest of the appelation. They are not as powerful, oaky, and thick as those of Guigal, nor as rustic and backward as those produced by his brother-in-law...they are marvels of both finesse and richness."

1989 Nöel Verset Cornas
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1989 Nöel Verset Cornas (95VN). Vinous: "I actually find the 1989 Cornas to be a shade better than the '90 right now, but at this stage, 25 years out, we're well into the bottle variation stage of wines' evolution so I could take a different view on any given day. The wine displays highly complex bouquet that evokes raspberry liqueur, incense, potpourri and smoky bacon, with a powerful Asian spice nuance adding lift. It offers palate-staining red fruit and floral pastille flavors, along with suggestions of licorice, olive and fruitcake. Weighty but vibrant, it finishes sweet, seamless and extremely long, with a deft interplay of richness and tension. I suspect that the Cornas will age for at least as long as its 1990 sibling and probably longer but there's plenty of pleasure to be had from it now. (JR)" (01/2015)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1988 Cote Rotie is a spectacularly rich, concentrated wine with superb depth and intensity. Still very backward, this murky, dark ruby-colored wine displays a huge nose of cassis, minerals, licorice, earth, and flowers. In the mouth there is astonishing concentration, terrific flavor delineation, medium to full body, plenty of tannin, and a long, spicy, tightly knit finish. The honeyed, somewhat unctuous personality of the wine is more dominant in the 1989 than in the 1988, but there remains the head-turning, beautiful, flowery aromas, sensational concentration, super ripeness, and low acidity. Just a sensational Cornas that surpasses what was achieved in 2009 and 2010, this full-bodied, concentrated and structured effort has the fruit to be enjoyable now (this is a common trait of the vintage), yet has the depth, richness and balance to evolve for over two decades. Bid on this bottle of 2003 Domaine du Pégaü "Cuvée da Capo" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (100RP, 99WS, (95-97ST)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "At present the Capo reveals that extra level of flavor, power, complexity and richness. It is a big wine (16.1% alcohol – less than in the 1998, but more than in the 2000 and 2007) boasting a dark plum/garnet color as well as a stunning bouquet of aged beef intermixed with pepper, herbes de Provence, and steak au poivre. This unctuously textured, full-bodied Chateauneuf possesses enormous body, huge flavors and sweet, velvety tannins. Still youthful, it has not yet begun to close down, and I'm not sure it ever will given this unusual vintage. 2002 Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2002 Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage ((91-94RP), 92WS, (90-91ST)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the candidates for the Rhone Valley’s 'wine of the vintage' is Chave’s 2002 Hermitage. A draconian selection has resulted in a deep ruby/purple-colored offering revealing sweet notes of melted licorice, briery berries, earth, and herbs. Medium to full-bodied, pure, elegant, and intense, this forward-styled Hermitage appears to be better than the 1992, 1993, and 1994, which are all fine wines that are holding up well. The 2002 should be at its peak between 2005-2015. What Chave accomplished in the extremely challenging 2002 vintage is unquestionably noteworthy. Not because of tiny yields and small grapes, but due to Chave’s decision to eliminate every grape except the very best, 2002 is a small crop. (RP)" (12/2004)

2012 Chimère (Sine Qua Non) Châteauneuf-du-Pape (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum of 2012 Chimère (Sine Qua Non) Châteauneuf-du-Pape (1.5L) (99RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "We finished the tasting with the inky-purple 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape. A cellar selection by Manfred Krankl (of Sine Qua Non) of mostly Mourvedre, yet with a splash of Grenache and even some white varieties, it was aged in two new 300-liter French oak barrels before being bottled (in magnum only) unfined and unfiltered. It’s a massive, masculine and structured Chateauneuf du Pape that needs to be tasted to be believed. Cassis, creamy licorice, jammy blackberry and crushed flowers are only a few of the nuances here, and it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, incredible mid-palate depth and a blockbuster finish that just won’t quit. The level of concentration here surpasses just about every other wine in the vintage, and yet it never seems heavy, cumbersome or over-the-top. Give it 4-5 years and drink this spectacular effort over the following two decades. Hats off
