2007 Domaine de la Janasse "Chaupin" Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Bid on this bottle of 2007 Domaine de la Janasse "Chaupin" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (98RP, 94ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: " Showing a smidge of worrisome volatile acidity, the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Chaupin nevertheless has off-the-hook levels of richness and depth. Spring flowers, blackberry, cassis, licorice, violets and white pepper are all present here, and it’s a massive wine on the palate, with big fruit, a voluptuous texture and a great finish. After this tasting, I pulled a bottle from my cellar (purchased on release), and it was firing on all cylinders, with not a hint of VA, so this appears to be an isolated issue. One of the benchmark estates in the Rhone Valley, Domaine de la Janasse is run by the talented brother/sister pair of Christophe and Isabelle Sabon. Bid on this bottle of 2009 Domaine Beaurenard "Cuvée Boisrenard" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (96WS, 93RP, 91ST). Wine Spectator: " *Highly Recommended* This powerful red offers a muscular core of roasted fig, blackberry and cassis fruit framed by thick, mesquite-tinged tannins, with loads of tobacco, pepper and tar coating the finish. Yet despite its power, this is racy and defined, with mouthwatering cut on the finish, where the mesquite note lingers. Ambitiously toasty, yet fully integrated. On par with the superb 2001 and 2005 vintages. Best from 2014 through 2024. " (10/2011)

Bid on this bottle of 2007 Domaine de la Mordorée "Reine des Bois" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (97RP, (93-96ST), 96WS, 92W&S). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Evolving beautifully, the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de La Reine des Bois has shed some of its crazy tannin and is showing a more layered, voluptuous profile. Possessing beautiful kirsch, blackberry, candied licorice, flowers and lavender, it offers knockout richness and decadence to go with brilliant purity of fruit, superb concentration, and a full-bodied, layered mouthfeel. While I don’t think it matches the ’01 or ’10, it’s an incredible bottle of wine that can be consumed anytime over the coming 10-15 years. (JD)" (08/2014)

Bid on this bottle of 2007 Roger Sabon "Secret de Sabon" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (100RP, 96ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Le Secret du Sabon is jaw-dropping good, and tops out on my scale. Crazily perfumed and complex, with layers of kirsch, crushed flowers, incense, beef blood and garrigue, it hits the palate with massive depth and richness, thrilling purity of fruit and a seamless texture that needs to be tasted to be believed. I'd happily drink bottles today, but given its mid-palate depth and no shortage of tannin that emerges on the finish, it will have no issues evolving through 2027. (JD)" (08/2014)

2009 Delas Freres "Les Bessards" Hermitage
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2009 Delas Freres "Les Bessards" Hermitage (100RP, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Every bit as profound as the 2010, yet in a more voluptuous, lower acid, hedonistic style, the inky colored 2009 Hermitage les Bessards (aged all in new French oak) offers incredible intensity and depth in its black raspberry, toasted bread, graphite and spice-like aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, massively endowed and with a wealth of raw material, it has high, yet sweet tannin and a finish that just won't quit. Give it 4-5 years and drink it over the following 3-4 decades. Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2003 Andre Brunel "Les Cailloux" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (93ST, 92RP). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep, bright red. Cherry, red plum, raspberry liqueur aromas, along with pungent notes of rose, violet and smoked meat. Conveys the great ripeness of the vintage but the tangy wild strawberry and rhubarb flavors are impressively fresh and delineated too. This expands impressively through the finish without losing focus or verve. While there are no tough tannins to get in the way of early drinking, this has the stuffing to repay cellaring." Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2007 Pierre Usseglio "Cuvée de Mon Aïeul" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (100RP, 94ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There are 1,800 cases of the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee du Mon Aieul (100% tank-aged Grenache). It represents an awesome naked/virginal expression of Grenache from three vineyard parcels planted in sand, clay, and limestone soils. After tasting this wine on five separate occasions, I can state with certainty, it has the most saturated color of any Mon Aieul produced to date. Moreover, its perfume of blueberry liqueur, black raspberries, licorice, roasted meat juices, and lavender is incredible. Full-bodied power, a multilayered mouthfeel, tremendous purity, and awesome concentration put this wine in a class by itself. This sensational Chateauneuf du Pape is still very young, and 3-4 years of cellaring is required. It should be a modern day legend and last for nearly two decades. (RP)" (10/2009)

Bid on this 2-half-bottle lot of 1999 Chapoutier Hermitage Vin de Paille (375ml) (91RP, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There are limited cuvees of Chapoutier's sweet, oily, viscous vin de paille. The amber-colored 1999 Ermitage Vin de Paille reveals more new oak than expected, but it had just finished fermentation and perhaps is not as seamless as it will be in several years. Massively endowed, with frightfully high levels of glycerin, extract, and tannin, this is an old-style, super concentrated, beautifully pure, well-delineated Hermitage. Wow! Full body with layers of ripe tannins and spice. It goes on for minutes on the finish. This is a fabulously spicy with black pepper, cinnamon, cloves, black truffles, sous bois and licorice. 1997 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1997 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage (95ST, 94RP, 93WS). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "The “Bollito not boiled” is one of Bottura’s classic dishes (seven different cuts of beef slowly cooked—for 36 hours—at a lower-than-usual temperature), while the “Beautiful, psychedelic…” veal creation is a far more modern Pollock-esque take on meat, but both match splendidly with Chave’s heavenly 1997 Hermitage Rouge. I’m not much for extremely rich, almost fat reds (and ’97 pushed the envelope) but this wine has aged magnificently and comes across as plush yet graceful, a neat trick. Stylishly supple and glyceral, it overpowers neither the veal nor the bollito." (12/2014)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A 1,000-case offering from gray clay soils, the 2010 Gigondas Les Souteyrades is also made from 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvedre from 65-year-old vines. It represents what Saurel believes is his finest parcel of old vines. This cuvee is always the richest and fullest of this trio of Gigondas, and it can also contain more truffle, herbs, tannin and structure. A complex, intricate Gigondas, it offers a terrific perfume of truffles, forest floor, acacia flowers, and lots of black and red fruits. It hits the palate with a deep, expansive, round, full-bodied mouthfeel, and finishes long. This 2010 is capable of drinking well for 12-15+ years. Bravo! (RP)" (10/2012)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2010 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape (99RP, 98WS, 96ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape flirts with perfection. A classic blend of 65% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre and the rest Syrah, Vaccarese and Counoise, all aged in large foudres in Clos des Papes's air-conditioned and humidity-controlled wine cellar, the wine boasts a dense purple color along with lots of gorgeously pure black raspberry, black currant and kirsch liqueur notes intermixed with notions of spring flowers, tapenade, licorice and spice box. This dense, full-bodied, powerful Chateauneuf is also remarkably fresh and well-delineated. It even exceeded the 2007 in natural alcohol, coming in at 15.9%. With an extraordinary texture and considerable tannin in the finish, it will benefit from 3-5 years of bottle age, and is built for 25-30 years of cellaring. Don't miss it! A blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 20% Mourvedre (45- to-95-year-old vines) aged in small oak, it exhibits an opaque purple color as well as a sweet bouquet of blackberries, espresso roast, ink and graphite. Bid on this bottle of 2007 Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage ((95-96ST), 95RP, 95WS). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "I tasted this wine in three components from stainless steel tanks, where it was awaiting bottling this winter. #1: Red berries and flowers on the nose, with strong mineral and floral notes and Asian spices. #2: More masculine and brooding, offering deep cherry compote and blackcurrant scents and suggestions of licorice and black cardamom. Smoky dark fruit flavors are framed by chewy tannins and pick up sweeter red berry qualities with air. The finish is sweet and penetrating, with a strong echo of black raspberry. #3: Fresh raspberry and cherry on the nose, with notes of smoked meat, minerals and violet. Supple, mineral-laced red fruit flavors are joined by allspice and violet pastille on the back. Very fresh sample with strong finishing lift and spiciness. Looks to be an excellent wine that will provide plenty of pleasure on the (relatively) young side." (02/201

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The biggest surprise in these tastings was the phenomenal performance of the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee du Quet. Normally a blend of 65% Grenache and 35% Mourvedre, the 2007's composition changed to 80% Grenache (all aged in tank) and 20% Mourvedre (aged in small oak barrels.) This wine literally blew me away. Since this is a PG-rated publication, I can not print my original comments upon tasting this wine. Let’s just say the exquisite aromatics were astounding. As are all of these efforts, it’s full-bodied, deeply concentrated and textured on the palate, with masses of sweet tannin.
