2004 E. Guigal "La Turque" Côte-Rôtie
Bid on this bottle of 2004 E. Guigal "La Turque" Côte-Rôtie (95VN, 94WS, 93RP). Vinous: "Saturated red. Deep, concentrated aromas of kirsch, cola and blackcurrant, with mounting smokiness and Indian spice qualities. Livelier on the palate, offering sweet raspberry and cherry-cola flavors, velvety texture and a strong lashing of cracked pepper. A sweet anise note carries through the sappy, very sweet finish. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Even better, the 2007 Gigondas Le Claux is surprisingly elegant and seamless (it’s normally the most structured in the lineup), with notions of pepper, earth, mineral, ground herbs and graphite supported by a rock-star core of darker berry fruit. Gaining richness in the glass, it’s a full-bodied, beautifully concentrated Gigondas the perfectly marries the inherent structure of the appellation with a sense of finesse and elegance. Of the 2001 Rene Rostaing Cote Rotie ''La Landonne'',Wine Spectator writes: "This is a taut and minerally version, with lavender, iron and olive paste notes holding sway over racy cherry and cassis fruit. Wine Enthusiast: "Jean-Louis, the son of Gérard Chave, is now in charge of the family business, as well as being president of the Hermitage wine producers. He is continuing the family tradition of making powerful statements of Syrah from Hermitage, combining massive structure and over-powering perfumes. This 1999 seems to have the best of the traditional world of tannic immensity and the modern world of beautiful, ripe fruit. A wine that will age for a very long time." (06/2002)

1990 Noel Verset Cornas
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1990 Noel Verset Cornas (94ST, 93RP). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "At the time of its release I thought that Verset's 1990 Cornas was one of the best wines of the vintage in the northern Rhône and definitely the best example of Cornas for that year. Still deep ruby in color, it displays powerful aromas of cherry liqueur, blackberry and olive, with a minty aspect adding vivacity and lift. Round and seamless in texture, with sappy red and dark berry flavors and hints of spicecake and cola, this is aging very slowly and positively. A hint of fresh mint sneaks up with air, adding good back end bite to a long, supple finish. In an ample, plush style for Verset, you could drink this with great pleasure now or forget it for at least another ten years." (01/2015)

2000 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2000 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage (96RP, 95WS, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "More forward, open and textured, the 2000 Hermitage is an almost promiscuous effort that’s just hard to resist. According to Jean-Louis, this wine has never shut down and has always delivered plenty of pleasure. It has classic cassis and blackberry fruit, bacon fat, violets and herbs to go with a full-bodied, layered and seamless, if not voluptuous, style on the palate. I’d line bottles up for drinking over the coming couple of years, but it should hold nicely for upward of a decade. (JD)" (08/2014)

Bid on this bottle of 2009 Domaine de Marcoux Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes (97RP, 96WS, 94VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Just a touch darker in color than the traditional cuvee, the blockbuster 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes is a big, full-bodied and concentrated beauty that's overflowing with Provencal notes of cured meats, garrigue, licorice, black cherries and crushed rock. Thick and unctuous on the palate, it has put on weight since release, and the tannin is also sweeter and more polished, all suggesting it will have a long life. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "More masculine, backwards and concentrated, the 2005 Cote Rotie Chateau d’Ampuis is a full-bodied, structured effort that’s just barely starting to show some secondary nuances. Giving up notions of violet, asphalt, graphite, crushed rock, bacon fat and dried rose petal, it has impeccable balance, notable concentration and a big finish. Bid on this bottle of 2001 M. Chapoutier "Le Méal" Ermitage ((92-95RP), 93ST, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The dense purple-colored 2001 Ermitage Le Meal reveals aromas of blackberry liqueur, smoke, licorice, and toasty oak. While rich, it is neither as expansive nor as broad compared to the 2000. The 2001 possesses good acidity and delineation in addition to a tight, pinched but impressive finish that lasts for 40-45 seconds. It is certainly an outstanding, even profound effort, but not as compelling as previous vintages. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2030. (RP)" (06/2003)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2007 Domaine du Pégaü "Cuvée da Capo" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (100RP, 96ST, 96WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "For the fourth time, the Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee da Capo has been produced, and for the fourth time, it has received a perfect score although I might back off the 2000's perfect score based on the fact that it seems to be more of an upper-ninety point wine than pure perfection these days. The 2007 may come closest in style to the 1998, the debut vintage, although the tannins are sweeter and the wine is perhaps fatter and richer in the mouth... An inky/purple color is followed by aromas of smoked meats, Peking duck, licorice, lavender, aged beef, grilled steak blood, black currants, plums, sauteed cepes and soy. Enormously concentrated, broad, expansive and massive but not over the top, this is a tour de force in winemaking that is impossible to imagine unless one has a bottle to work through over the course of 4 to 5 hours ... 2000 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 2000 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape (95RP, 91ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape reveals 14.6% alcohol, and is stylistically similar to the great 1990. The 2000 is open-knit and fat, with higher levels of glycerin as well as a more corpulent style than the structured, backward 2001. A deep ruby/purple color is followed by sweet, black cherry/kirsch liqueur-like notes presented in a voluptuous, full-throttle, intense style. It is already revealing such secondary nuances as pepper, garrigue, and truffles. Chewy, full-bodied, and moderately tannic, this cuvee is accessible, but not ready to drink. (JD)" (02/2003)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2007 Roger Sabon "Secret de Sabon" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (100RP, 96ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Le Secret du Sabon is jaw-dropping good, and tops out on my scale. Crazily perfumed and complex, with layers of kirsch, crushed flowers, incense, beef blood and garrigue, it hits the palate with massive depth and richness, thrilling purity of fruit and a seamless texture that needs to be tasted to be believed. I'd happily drink bottles today, but given its mid-palate depth and no shortage of tannin that emerges on the finish, it will have no issues evolving through 2027. (JD)" (08/2014)

1990 Auguste Clape Cornas
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1990 Auguste Clape Cornas (91RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Clape's 1990 Cornas is outstanding. The color is an opaque black/purple, and the nose offers up rich, ripe aromas of black fruits, licorice, and spices. Superconcentrated, with a full-bodied, highly extracted, mouth-filling taste, this example of Cornas possesses moderate tannin, adequate acidity, and a smashingly long finish. It is also relatively refined for a Cornas, displaying no signs of the rustic tannin or funky, earthy smells many Cornas can possess. (RP)" (01/1997)

It is full-bodied and fabulously concentrated as well as powerful, with a finish that lasts for fifty seconds. This saturated black/purple-colored 1999 exhibits remarkable symmetry, purity, and overall massive size all juxtaposed with a sense of elegance and restraint. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2007 Chante Cigale Châteauneuf-du-Pape "Vieilles Vignes" (95RP, 92VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The compelling 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes (78% Grenache and the rest Syrah and Mourvedre) is made from 60- to 120-year-old vines. Its dense plum/purple hue is followed by knock-out aromas of incense, crushed pepper, cedar, black currant jam, licorice, and sweet cherries. Voluptuously textured, opulent, and round with well-formed, moderately high tannins that are nearly covered by the wine’s fruit and glycerin, it will easily last 15-20 years in a cold, damp cellar. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2010 Château Sixtine (Cuvée du Vatican) Châteauneuf-du-Pape (OWC - 96RP, 94WS, 92ST) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Chateau Sixtine Chateauneuf du Pape performed exquisitely and, again, was one of the top wines of the vintage. With better integration of the new oak than I have previously seen from Jean-Marc Diffonty, this wine's opaque ruby/purple color possesses lots of licorice, asphalt, graphite, blackberry and kirsch notes as well as hints of lavender, forest floor and garrigue. This opulent, full-bodied effort is approachable, but it will not hit its full stride for another 2-4 years. It should drink well for 15-20 years thereafter. This is one of Chateauneuf du Pape's ancient estates (the recorded history dates back to 1673), long owned by the Diffonty family (presently by Jean-Marc). Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2000 Domaine de la Charbonniere "Les Hauts Brusquieres Cuvée Speciale" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (94RP, 90ST, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Speciale Les Hautes Brusquieres, all from a single vineyard parcel planted high on the plateau of Chateauneuf du Pape, behind the village, is made from 100% destemmed Grenache (60%) and Syrah (40%). Malolactic fermentation occurs in both foudre and barrel, and more new oak is utilized. In contrast to the 2001, the 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Hautes Brusquieres possesses a dense ruby/purple color and pungent, peppery, garrigue aromas intermixed with blackberry, raspberry, and cherry fruit characteristics. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The fabulous 2007 Châteauneuf-du-Pape (a blend of 64% Grenache, 19% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre, and the rest Cinsault and Vaccarese) boasts a deep plum/ruby/purple color as well as a super expressive perfume that represents the essence of Provence. Fresh bouquet garni, roasted Provencal herbs, licorice, black cherries, and black currant aromas soar from the glass of this full-bodied, incredibly deep, savory wine. Juicy and succulent with terrific acidity, freshness, and length, it is accessible now, and should continue to drink well for 12-15 or more years. Out of the entire tasting, it remained my favorite. Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 2007 Domaine de Marcoux Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes (100RP, 96VN, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Pure perfection in a glass, the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes is up with the tiny handful of truly monumental wines from this hallowed appellation. Deep, concentrated and incredibly balanced, yet packed with character and intensity, its deep ruby/purple color is followed by insanely good notes of black cherries, fruit cake, lavender, garrigue and chocolate. While a blockbuster of a wine, it possesses the telltale elegance, seamlessness and perfume that's the hallmark of this estate and it never puts a foot wrong, with a seamless mid-palate, building, sweet tannin and a great finish. It's a tour de force to drink anytime over the coming decade or more. (JD)" (10/2016)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2001 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape (95RP, 94WS, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The classically styled 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape has plenty of the telltale kirsch and sweet spice notes that always seem to be present in Avril's wines. Showing more mature notes of truffle, olive, licorice and garrigue as it sat in the glass, it's medium to full-bodied, elegant and balanced, with a great texture and finish. It has solid mid-palate depth, as well as sweet tannin, so, while there's no harm enjoying bottles today, it has another decade of longevity. (JD)" (09/2015)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1997 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape "La Crau". Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1997 Chateauneuf du Pape is an evolved, forward, richly fruity wine with medium body, and plenty of smoke, pepper, Allspice, black cherry and Provencal herb aromas. It is seductive, round, charming, and sexy. The wine reveals pepper and spicy aromas. Because of its fragility, Daniel Brunier intends to bottle the 1997 early to preserve its attractive level of fruit. (RP)" (02/1999)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2007 Domaine Saint Siffrein Chateauneuf-du-Pape (94RP, 90ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The finest effort I have yet tasted from this estate, the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape is composed of 65% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre, and 5% Cinsault. Its traditional upbringing included 100% aging in old foudres. Its dense ruby/purple color is followed by a big, sweet, juicy kiss of kirsch liqueur intermixed with blacker fruits, raspberries, licorice, camphor, and hints of lavender and incense. The wine exhibits terrific concentration, full-bodied intensity, and a 45-50-second finish. This sensational Chateauneuf du Pape will benefit from another 2-3 years of bottle age, and should drink well for 15-20 years. (RP)" (10/2009)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Year in and year out, one of the three greatest Hermitages made is Chapoutier’s Le Pavillon. The black/blue-colored 2000 Ermitage Le Pavillon is brilliant out of bottle. Notes of graphite, ink, licorice, creme de cassis, and minerals jump from the glass of this syrup of Hermitage. Full-bodied, unctuously-textured, gorgeously rich, spectacularly concentrated and long, it is a tour de force in winemaking. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2040. (RP)" (06/2003)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2007 Domaine de la Charbonnière "Les Hauts Brusquières Cuvée Spéciale" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (95RP, 93ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine is composed of a selection the Maret family makes from their holdings in one of the great sites in all of Chateauneuf du Pape, the lieux-dit known as La Crau. The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Hautes Brusquieres Cuvee Speciale is a blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah. The Grenache is aged in large oak foudres and most of the Syrah in smaller barrels. This fabulous, inky/ruby/purple-tinged wine offers up sweet, jammy aromas of black raspberries, licorice, truffles, underbrush, and Provencal herbs. It is the deepest colored of these four wines, and is also profoundly rich and layered, with sweet tannins as well as refreshing vibrancy and acidity. This stunner should hit its peak in 3-4 years, and last for two decades. (JD)" (10/2009)

2005 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape (98WS, 95RP, 95ST). Wine Spectator: "**#1 in Top 100 Wines of 2007 & Collectibles designation** Really tight now, but packed with dark fig, currant, espresso, licorice and chocolate notes. Superfleshy but seriously structured, there's layer after layer of sweet spice, fruit and minerality pumping through the finish, with lots of latent depth and power. Far more backward than the 2003 or 2004 on release, but since this red typically puts on weight as it ages, it should be a monster--à la the 1990--when it reaches its peak." (12/2007)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2007 Clos du Mont Olivet "La Cuvée du Papet" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (98RP, 96WS, 95ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape La Cuvee du Papet may will turn out to be their finest example since the 1998 and 1990. Stylistically, it probably comes closest to resembling the legendary 1990. Notes of roasted meats and smoked duck, with Provencal herbs, truffle, incense, licorice, and pepper, are all there, plus enormous quantities of red and black fruits. This is one heck of a complex wine, with a bouquet that is the essence of southern France, in particular Provence. Full-bodied, powerful, with the glycerin and level of richness covering some lofty tannins, this wine is already accessible and nearly impossible to resist, but my instincts suggest it will be absolutely glorious in another 4-5 years and keep for 15-20. Of the 2006 Domaine de la Mordorée "Reine de Bois" Châteauneuf-du-Pape,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "Delorme’s 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee la Reine des Bois is up with the top eight to ten wines of the vintage. Made from 80% Grenache then smaller amounts of Mourvèdre, Vaccarèse, Syrah and Counoise—all from the famed la Crau lieu-dit—it reveals an inky ruby color as well as sexy, youthful notes of barbecue smoke, black currants, licorice, toasted spice and graphite. Never acidified, it has awesome freshness and focus to go with full-bodied richness, a hedonistic texture and a blockbuster-styled finish. Made from mostly Grenache (it’s a field blend and the exact blend is unknown) and aged 18 months in demi-muids, it offers a full-bodied, powerful, yet perfectly balanced feel on the palate to go with knockout notes of black raspberry, currants, garrigue, licorice and Provencal herbs. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2007 Pierre Usseglio "Cuvée de Mon Aïeul" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (99RP, 94ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The thickest, richest and most extravagant Cuvee du Mon Aieul ever produced is unquestionably the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de Mon Aieul! Almost all old-vine Grenache brought up in tank (no new wood), it tastes like the raw essence of Grenache and has off-the-hook aromas and flavors of black raspberries, cassis, cured meats, licorice and incense. Massively rich and textured, with a full, layered mid-palate and sweet tannin, it's still an adolescent that drinks well today, due its insane amount of fruit, but will be even better in 2-3 years and have 20-25 years of overall longevity. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2001 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape (96RP, 93WS, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Beaucastel has been on a terrific qualitative roll over the last four vintages, and the 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape (which Francois Perrin feels is similar to the 1990, although I don’t see that as of yet) is a 15,000-case blend of 30% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre, 10% Syrah, 10% Counoise, and the balance split among the other permitted varietals of the appellation. This inky/ruby/purple-colored cuvee offers a classic Beaucastel bouquet of new saddle leather, cigar smoke, roasted herbs, black truffles, underbrush, and blackberry as well as cherry fruit. It is a superb, earthy expression of this Mourvedre-dominated cuvee. Full-bodied and powerful, it will undoubtedly close down over the next several years, not to re-emerge for 7-8 years. Bid on this bottle of 1991 M. Chapoutier "Le Pavillon" Ermitage (100RP, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is a Le Pavilion of mythical proportions. Produced from extremely old vines, some dating from the mid-nineteenth century, with yields averaging under 15 hectoliters per hectare, this is the richest, most concentrated and profound wine made in Hermitage. The 1991 Ermitage Le Pavilion follows the pattern of the 1989 and 1990-it is another perfect wine. The saturated black/purple color is followed by a compelling bouquet of spices, roasted meats, and black and red fruits. Enormously concentrated yet with brilliant focus and delineation to its awesomely endowed personality, this extraordinary wine should age effortlessly for three plus decades. Bid on this bottle of 2010 Paul Jaboulet Aîné "La Chapelle" Hermitage (96RP, 96ST, 94WS, 90WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "It should be fascinating to compare the potentially legendary 2010 Hermitage La Chapelle with the prodigious 2009 La Chapelle over the next 30-40 years. About 20% new oak was used, and, as were previous vintages, the 2010 was aged 15 months prior to bottling. This black/purple-colored beauty is revealing more weight and richness than it did last year from barrel, along with great precision, stunning minerality and enormous quantities of blackberry, cassis, beef blood and smoked game intertwined with hints of graphite and acacia flowers. With good acidity and richness as well as abundant, but ripe, well-integrated tannin, this great wine equals the titan produced in 2009. Dense ruby/purple-tinged with an exquisite nose of salty sea breezes, licorice, ground pepper, jammy black cherries, black currants, figs, and plums, this is a full-bodied, rich, Provencal-styled offering with lots of sweet, ripe tannin. It is surprisingly accessible for a Vieux Telegraphe (this wine normally shuts down several years after bottling), but it should have great longevity (25+ years) given its power, full-bodied mouthfeel, and enormous length and richness. It is slightly tighter and more restrained than the 2010 Chaupin, but it has enormous volume as well as incredible glycerin, richness and fat.
