2009 Saxum "James Berry Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2009 Saxum "James Berry Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend (98RP, 97JS, 97RR, 97WS, 96ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Simply put, the 2009 James Berry Vineyard is one of the greatest young wines I have ever tasted from California, or anywhere for that matter. Bright, floral aromatics lead to expressive red fruit in this impossibly elegant, dazzling wine. A melange of rose petals, mint and licorice follows as the James Berry shows off its breathtaking clarity and finesse. Fine-grained, chalky tannins frame the exceptional finish. Frankly, I am surprised this is the first wine of the tasting. Where does one go from here? (AG)" (08/2011)

2009 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum lot of 2009 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (98RP, 96ST, 95CG, 95WE, 95WS, 93W&S). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Monte Bello, 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot is simply magnificent. Layers of dark red fruit, flowers, spices and graphite are all woven together in this utterly impeccable wine. The 2009 is an especially huge, intense Monte Bello, yet a sexy, silky core of fruit lies within its imposing frame. Everything comes together in this glorious, radiant wine. Last year the 2009 had some pretty stiff competition from the 2010, but today it is simply firing on all cylinders. Eric Baugher describes 2009 as a year with cold weather early on, followed by heat in early June and July. The fruit was brought in on October 12, just before an intense downpour swept through the region. There is a purity and silkiness supported by structure in the 2009 that is impossible not to admire. Simply put, t

2009 Frédéric Magnien Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 2009 Frédéric Magnien Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru ((92-95ST), (91-94BH), 92RP). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: " Good full, deep red. Sexy, highly aromatic nose combines briary raspberry, crushed stone, clove, cumin, dried flowers and smoke. Wonderfully silky and seductive on the palate, with compelling inner-mouth perfume. But much less expressive on the back half and in need of substantial bottle aging. Still, this extremely promising Charmes is already wonderfully subtle wine." (01/2011)

2009 Philip Togni "Estate" Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 2009 Philip Togni "Estate" Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon (95RP, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon is stunningly beautiful and seductive in its red fruit, mint and tobacco. This is a surprisingly accessible vintage for the Cabernet Sauvignon. Today it looks like an excellent choice for readers who want to explore the wines of this iconic producer--as long as it doesn't close down in bottle. Togni's 2009 is notable for its exceptional elegance, finesse and pedigree. There is plenty of Spring Mountain structure, but today the 2009 is disarmingly sexy and radiant for such a young wine. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029. This is a breathtaking set of wines from Philip, Birgitta and Lisa Togni. Philip Togni hardly needs an introduction to lovers of fine Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Since his epic 1969 Cabernet Sauvignon at Chappellet, Togni has crafted a series of impeccable, breathtaking wines. It is amazing to consider that Togn

James Suckling: "This is very tight and rich with dried apple, mango and papaya, yet it's bright and floral. Full body, dense fruit and a long, powerful finish. 2009 Duhart-Milon, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 2009 Duhart-Milon, Pauillac (97RP, 95JS, 93DC, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon and 37% Merlot, it displays an inky/blue/purple color as well as a big, sweet nose of creme de cassis, forest floor, licorice, lead pencil, cedar and subtle barrique smells. Viscous and full-bodied, it is the most concentrated and broadest example of this cuvee I have tasted in over three decades. It will be ready to drink in 5-7 years and should last for three decades or more. Consumers looking to maximize value should be checking out Duhart Milon, as this may be the single smartest purchase in this great and historic vintage! (RP)" (02/2012)

It's full and creamy textured, with gorgeous ripe tannins and a long, long finish. Such balance. Amazing tannin quality. Second wine of Margaux. One of best Pavillon Rouges ever. Try after 2018." 2009 Domaine Arlaud Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Domaine Arlaud Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru ((91-94BH)). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Here the cool and only moderately ripe nose is somewhat atypical for the vintage as it combines notes of raspberry, plum and sour cherry. The supple and delicious flavors are lacy to the point of being almost delicate yet there is focused power on the mouth coating finish. The tannins possess a dusty character and unlike the Combottes, there is excellent complexity and flat out stunning length delivered in a style that emphasizes finesse. Fans of power and weight will wish to look elsewhere but for those who enjoy elegance, this is a textbook example of what I call power without weight." (01/2011)

Of the 2009 Domaine de la Pousse d'Or Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 2009 Corton-Les Bressandes is an implosive wine. It possesses massive structure and powerful tannins, but the best is many years away. The fruit is very nicely textured on the long, pointed finish. This shows superb purity, class and pedigree. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2039. This is a stunning set of wines from Patrick Landager. The vintage yielded a set of super-sized, big wines that may shock some readers for their sheer intensity. These are among some of the most backward 2009s I tasted and will require considerable patience. (AG)" (05/2011)

Vinous: "Shafer's 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select is all high notes. Sweet red plum and cherry notes meld into mint, spice and new leather, all supported by silky, polished tannins that add finesse to the plush fruit. Rich, opulent and beautifully textured throughout, the 2009 is going to provide fabulous, viscerally thrilling drinking pretty much right out of the gate. This is a great Hillside Select. Frankly, I can't imagine anyone who enjoys Hillside Select not wanting the 2009 in their cellar. The persistent, resonant finish is pure sensuality. (AG)" (11/2013)

2009 Domaine Dominique Mugneret Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Aux Boudots"
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2009 Domaine Dominique Mugneret Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Aux Boudots". A small winery, founded in 1979 and run by the cousin of Patrice Mugneret of Domaine Gerard Mugneret. From Wine Advocate: "Dominique Mugneret is the cousin of Patrice Mugneret of Domaine Gerard Mugneret. Its roots like in Domaine Denis Mugneret that was established in 1979, his son Dominique officially starting three years later after studies at viticultural college and military service and bottling a majority of production themselves only really began in 1985 after the cuverie had been built. Dominique took over completely in 1999, introducing biodynamic principles towards his vineyard husbandry, cultivating grass between rows to regulate vigor, fully de-stemming fruit, and only intermittently racking during elevage. This is a small winery located opposite the Clos des Reas vineyard in Vosne-Romanée, a fairly rudimentary winery that nevertheless creates commendable wines." (NM, 12/2013

Dark red berries, flowers, mint, mocha and espresso are woven together beautifully in this impeccable, polished wine. 2009 Quilceda Creek Columbia Valley Red Blend
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Quilceda Creek Columbia Valley Red Blend (92RP, 91ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Quilceda Creek's 2009 Red Wine – which includes 15% of Merlot and near-negligible amounts of Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc – nicely integrates preserved walnut, toasted pecan, and green herbal elements into a matrix of cocoa powder, chocolate syrup, and confitured dark berries. There is a hint of heat to the finish of this plush, plump offering, but neither that nor the wines torrefied elements detract from a torrent of sweet berry juiciness, nor preclude a sense of energy and a dynamic interaction of myriad elements. I suspect, based on intuition as well as reliable reports – although I have scarcely any personal experience as yet with older Quilceda Creek wines – that this will remain well worth following for at least a decade. Of the 2009 Domaine du Tunnel (Stéphane Robert) Cornas,Rhone Report writes: "A serious Cornas that exudes minerality and earthy characteristics, the 2009 Domaine du Tunnel (Stéphane Robert) Cornas boasts stunning, pure aromas of blackberry, violets, charred meat, and Asian spice on the nose. Gorgeously put together and showing a perfect blend of fruit, freshness, and structure, this seamless, balanced Cornas needs 2-3 years of bottle age to gain additional complexity, and should have 15+ years of longevity. 2009 Domaine Marius Delarche Corton-Renardes Grand Cru Réserve Vieilles Vignes
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Domaine Marius Delarche Corton-Renardes Grand Cru Réserve Vieilles Vignes. About the domain: "Burgundy from Domaine Marius Delarche stands as an example of what great wine can and should be: both memorable and affordable. We first came across the family’s tiny cellars in Pernand-Vergelesses in the early 1990s, and honestly couldn’t believe what we saw, or tasted. Hidden away in this peaceful valley in the shadow of the noble hill of Corton was certainly the Côte de Beaune’s best-kept secret—gorgeous wines made by an honest winemaker for prices that reminded of decades past." 2009 Dunn Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Dunn Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon (96RP, 93CG, 93ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain has more energy and focus than the Napa Valley bottling. Iron, graphite, red fruits, dried flowers are some of the many notes that take shape in this deep, complex, powerful wine. I imagine the 2009 will still be spectacular at age 30. For now, it needs at least another handful of years of cellaring to drink well. Huge veins of minerality support the huge fruit, giving the wine much of its pure tension and vitality. This is going to be a fascinating wine to follow over the coming decades. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039. (96+) (AG)" (12/2012)

From one of the few bio-dynamically farmed vineyards in St.-Emilion, this 2009 exhibits a dense ruby/purple color as well as a big, crisp, precise nose of forest floor, black and red fruits, crushed rocks, and earth. Dense, muscular, and masculine, this rich, full-bodied, deep, impressively endowed effort will benefit from 5-7 years of cellaring, and should drink well for 25+. (RP)" (04/2010)

There is really lovely detail and purity to the delicious, intense and well-balanced middle weight flavors that are very Lavaut in character, all wrapped in a mouch coating and mineral-inflected finish. As is typically the case with the Raphet wines, this is not particularly powerful or concentrated but the focus is impressive in the context of the vintage and for those who enjoy refined and almost delicate burgundies, this would certainly qualify. Of the 2009 Long Shadows "Pirouette" Columbia Valley Red,Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar writes: "Deep, bright medium ruby. Ripe, inviting aromas of cassis, black raspberry, blackberry and black licorice. Large-scaled, sweet and rich; wonderfully glossy in the mouth, with concentrated dark fruit flavors complemented by a strong element of sweet oak. Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(a blend of 54% cabernet franc, 40% merlot and 6% malbec, with a crop level, according to Decelle, of 34 hectoliters per hectare; 60% new oak) Bright ruby. C abernet franc-dominated nose offers precise aromas of red cherry, blackcurrant, violet and white pepper, plus a hint of cocoa. Then densely packed and a bit tight in the middle, featuring lively if not particularly pliant red and black fruit flavors and a nice dusting of minerals. Finishes long and slightly austere, with mounting dusty-but-ripe tannins and a lingering strawberry note. This rather uncompromising wine possesses sneaky concentration but is not the type that shows well during the primeur tastings; still, it should develop well during its second year of elevage and in bottle. Dark fruit, spices, licorice and violets sit on a core of firm tannin as this powerful wine opens up in the glass. Today, The Thrill Of comes across as very, very young. The intensity of the fruit and the oak are dominant at present. In another few years the wine should be spectacular. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Ducru Beaucaillou will eclipse the brilliant wines produced in 2005, 2003 and 2000. It will be interesting to see how the 2009 fares against the 2010 after twenty years of aging, but my money is on the 2009. A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot that achieved 13.5% natural alcohol, this inky purple, unctuous wine possesses classic aromas of graphite, creme de cassis, blueberries, violets, licorice and Christmas fruitcake. Full-bodied and intense with Ducru’s inimitable elegance and purity, it should firm up in the bottle after 7-10 years of cellaring and last for 40-50 years. Magnificent! (RP)" (02/2012)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2009 Domaine Arnaud Ente Meursault 1er Cru "La Goutte d'Or" ((91-94BH), 92RP, 92ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Here too the nose is completely obscured by reduction and sulfur. By contrast, the rich, full and intense broad-shouldered flavors are buttressed by plenty of underlying extract and concentration on the punchy, precise and seriously persistent finish. This explosive effort offers plenty of personality. Color me impressed. *Sweet Spot, Outstanding*" (02/2011)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Saxum "Paderewski Vineyard" Paso Robles Red Blend (97RP, 94WS, 93JS, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Paderewski Vineyard is a new bottling from a site Smith developed for Bill and Liz Armstrong, the owners of Epoch. Zinfandel, Syrah, Petit Sirah and Mourvedre are planted in separate plots but co-fermented. Layers of dark fruit meld into flowers, mint, sweet spices, menthol, eucalyptus and plums, with marvelous density and harmony. This shows superb aromatic complexity and tons of nuance to match its absolutely striking personality. It is a dazzling effort, especially for a young vineyard in just its third leaf. The blend was 39% Zinfandel, 38% Syrah, 13% Petite Sirah and 10% Mourvedre. (AG)" (08/2011)

2009 Cayuse "En Cerise" Walla Walla Valley Syrah
Bid on this bottle of 2009 Cayuse "En Cerise" Walla Walla Valley Syrah (96RP, 95WS, 94ST, 94WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Fermented in concrete, then aged in demi-muids, only around 20% of which were new, Baron’s 2009 Syrah En Cerise Vineyard incorporates a mouthwateringly savory alliance of smoke meat and soy sauce to its luxuriantly rich, silken-textured matrix of confitured cassis and cherry, further laced with salted caramel, while striking perfume of mint, gentian, cardamom, and rose wood hovers above the glass and inner-mouth. The finish here lingers with an uncanny combination of seductive caress, vibrancy, richness, and buoyancy, its many flavor strands -- floral, fruited, animal, spice and mineral -- dynamically intertwining. I would surely give at least some bottles of it 12-15 years’ opportunity to show their true potential. Cautious as I attempt to be in drawing such parallels, if Baron’s latest Cailloux bottling resembles Verset Cornas, then this En Cerise puts one

Bid on this bottle of 2009 Frédéric Magnien Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Suchots" (92RP, 91ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Vosne-Romanee Les Suchots is quite polished in its dark red fruit. Sweet floral and spices notes add complexity and nuance on the vibrant, energetic finish. The Suchots shows lovely balance and harmony. Ideally, the wine needs a few years for the firm tannins to soften a touch. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2027. (AG)" (05/2011)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Domaine Michel Magnien Clos de la Roche Grand Cru ((91-94BH), (92-94ST), 91RP). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep, bright red-ruby. Wild nose melds strawberry, mocha, game, iron, licorice, lavender and crushed tock. Then tighter and drier on the palate than the Clos-Saint-Denis, and much less open to inspection today. Very pure and soil-inflected but less fruity today. Finishes with impressive length. But this will need five or six years in the cellar. (ST)" (01/2011)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Pierre Gaillard "Les Combes" Cornas. Jeb Dunnuck writes: "One of my favorite Northern Rhône winemakers is the soft-spoken Pierre Gaillard. His estate is in the northern part of St Joseph and he pulls mostly from vineyards in Côte Rôtie and around the villages of Chavanay and Malleval. Despite using a relatively high percentage of oak (most cuvées see 20-50% new barrels), there’s always an Old World feel to these wines."

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Rhys "Horseshoe Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir (94RP, 94ST, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Pinot Noir Horseshoe Vineyard is the most virile wine in this lineup. Black cherries, mint, iron and crushed rocks come together in this dramatic, generous Pinot. The fleshiness of the fruit nearly covers the tannins, but they are lurking beneath the wine’s considerable fleshiness. Menthol, pine and a host of other dark, balsamic notes wrap around the insistent, powerful finish. (AG)" (08/2011)

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2009 Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino (94VN, 93JS, 91RP, 90WE, 90WS). Vinous: "Bright red. Mesmerizingly pure and intense aromas of raspberry, sour red cherry, minerals, licorice and violet. Sweet, lush and deep, with outstanding clarity and lift to the pure flavors of red cherry, raspberry and flint. Pristine and very long on the vibrant finish, which features extremely sophisticated tannins and superb length. The wine's minerally, flinty quality runs through from nose to aftertaste. A paradigm of cooler-climate Montalcino sangiovese, this is the year's best Brunello, and it will cost you a fraction as much as more famous Brunellos that other wine writers will surely score higher. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Beauséjour (Duffau), St-Emilion (100RP, 95WS, 94JS, 94WE, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This big wine (nearly 15% natural alcohol) is a blend of 77% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon. It boasts an opaque blue/purple color along with a gorgeous bouquet of charcoal, incense, truffles, blackberry jam, black currants, raspberries and flowers. While enormous in the mouth, the limestone soils in which the grapes are grown give the wine good freshness as well as laser-like clarity and precision. Amazing to taste, this massive, super-concentrated powerhouse comes across as ethereal and almost feminine despite its extravagant fruit, density and richness. It is a modern day legend for sure! It changes all the time from flowers to fruit and wet earth. Full-bodied, with super fine tannins and ripe fruit. It's long and juicy with lovely fruit. Super long and beautiful, with fine tannins that last for minutes. Tight now, but juicy and gorgeous. Best ever from here. Try in 2020." (02/2012)

2009 Carlisle "Palisades Vineyard" Napa Valley Petite Sirah
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Carlisle "Palisades Vineyard" Napa Valley Petite Sirah ((94-96RP), 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another wine for readers who suffer from clogged arteries is the massive, super-tannic, phenomenally concentrated 2009 Petite Sirah Palisades Vineyard. Made from Napa Valley fruit and tipping the scales at 16% alcohol, this wine possesses a boatload of glycerin and concentration. It is a 30-40-year wine given the glacial pace at which Petite Sirah evolves. A dense purple color is accompanied by scents of graphite, blueberry liqueur and ink as well as hints of oak and crushed rocks. The wine is so concentrated, full-bodied and intense that it is nearly painful to taste. In spite of the stratospheric level of the tannins, they are remarkably sweet and well-integrated. Forget this one for 4-5 years and drink it over the following 3-4 decades. (RP)" (02/2011)

Of the 2008 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru "Bougros",Allen Meadows - Burghound writes: "A classic Chablis nose of mineral reduction, oyster shell and green fruit aromas merges into sappy, rich and powerful flavors that possess more refinement than usual on the long, sappy and beautifully detailed finish. Sexy aromas of red fruits, coffee, wild herbs, exotic spices and smoky minerality. Rich and creamy yet at the same time savory and vibrant; spreads out impressively to saturate the mouth with red fruit and spice flavors.
