2012 Rhys "Home Vineyard" San Mateo County Pinot Noir
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2012 Rhys "Home Vineyard" San Mateo County Pinot Noir (94VN, 93RP, 93ST, 92BH). Vinous: "Orange rind, graphite, pine, mint and crushed rocks jump from the glass in the 2012 Pinot Noir Home Vineyard. One of the more vibrant, chiseled wines in the range, the Home will benefit from further time in bottle. The translucent, crystalline finish is a thing of beauty. In this vintage, the Home was done with 100% whole clusters. Quite remarkably, the Home Vineyard lies just 400 yards away from Family Farm, separated by the San Andreas Fault, yet the wines from these two sites are completely different. (AG)" (07/2014)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1999 Domaine Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Ruchottes" (93BH, 93ST, 92WS). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Knockout sweet nose of crystallized lime peel and wild flowers. Very full and deep; a superripe wine whose strong but harmonious acidity gives it finesse and near-perfect balance. Very young but not at all aggressive, and already compellingly aromatic in the mouth. Finishes with subtle, palate-staining persistence. A great premier cru, able to be enjoyed now but likely to gain in complexity over the next decade in bottle. (ST)" (09/2001)

Bid on this bottle of 1997 Joseph Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (100RP, 97WS, 95WE, 94ST, 93W&S). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An inky/plum/purple color is accompanied by a stunning bouquet of violets, charcoal, creme de cassis and a hint of toast. Prodigious when it hits the palate with a full-bodied expansiveness, there is not a hard edge to be found in the 1997, only velvety tannins, compelling depth and fruit intensity, and stunning purity. It is a perfect expression of Napa viticulture and wine that should continue to age effortlessly for two decades or more. (RP)" (11/2013)

Bid on this bottle of 2000 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac (97RP, 96WS, 95JS, 95WE, 94ST, 92W&S). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Beginning to open magnificently, the still dense purple-colored 2000 reveals a blossoming bouquet of blackberries, cassis, graphite and pen ink. Full-bodied with velvety tannins that have resolved themselves beautifully over the last eleven years, this wine is still an adolescent, but it exhibits admirable purity, texture, mouthfeel and power combined with elegance. One of the all-time great examples of Lynch Bages, the 2000 is just beginning to drink well yet promises to last for another 20-25+ years. (RP)" (08/2011)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I am old enough to remember Chuck Wagner and his father, who I first met at Caymus in the late seventies. This is clearly one of Napa Valley’s iconic wineries, as well as one that, amazingly, never went through a bad patch. Obviously, no matter which generation is in the driver’s seat (or should I say tractor’s seat), Caymus Vineyard knows how to deliver flavor and deliciousness. (RP)" (10/2014)

This wine, which shows notes of new saddle leather, Christmas fruitcake and spice, is broad and savory, with a classic full-bodied mouthfeel, stunning purity and sensational flavors of wild forest mixed with blackberry and cassis fruit. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Pinot Noir Bodega Headlands Cuvee Elizabeth is undeniably a grand cru effort. Black raspberry, spring flower (violets), and kirsch aromas soar from the glass of this dark ruby/purple-tinged wine. Medium to full-bodied with zesty acidity, beautiful penetration, and a soaring mid-palate as well as length result in a prodigious example of Pinot Noir that should drink well for a decade or more. 2014 Saxum "Booker Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum lot of 2014 Saxum "Booker Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend (1.5L) ((97-99RP)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Leading off the wines from barrel, the 2014 Booker Vineyard is inky colored and downright unctuous, with tons of fruit, chalky minerality, full-bodied richness and no shortage of structure. One of the superstars in California is undoubtedly the humble, soft spoken, yet incredibly talented Justin Smith, who has had the reins at Saxum since 2000. And while a lot of winemakers would have been content to stick with the tried and true at this point, Smith continues to question, experiment and fine tune everything he does. Today, his wines are much more finesse oriented, pure and graceful than in the past, without sacrificing texture, concentration or richness. In short, these wines kick ass and shouldn't be missed by any serious wine lover out there! (JD)" (08/2016)

Large-scaled, tactile and quite powerful, with captivating, utterly pure flavors of pineapple, wet stone and minerals. Wonderfully sweet and smooth on the back end, with a lovely light touch, but the dusty, tactile aftertaste is stony and uncompromising. Outstanding* A strikingly pure nose of cassis, violets and blueberries gracefully gives way to rich, full, sweet and mineral-infused middle weight flavors that have cut-like-a-knife delineation as well as a very firm tannic spine that will also see this through well past its 25th birthday. While the Champans presently has a bit more flesh around the structure, this is a classic Taillepieds built on its minerality and is best cellared by those blessed with ample patience as this is the most backward wine in the range today." Of the 2005 Jacques Prieur Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des Santenots",Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "From yet another Prieur monopole, the 2005 Volnay Clos des Santenots displays ravishingly intense aromas and flavors of black raspberry and cassis, with dark chocolate, wet stone, graphite, chalk, and salts lending layers of complexity. A bit tannic and marked by toasty barrels in the finish, this might turn out to taste overdone in its sweetness for some tastes, but certainly there is ample mineral complexity. (DS)" (06/2007)

Of the 2005 Jean-Marc Boillot Pommard 1er Cru "Jarollieres",Allen Meadows - Burghound writes: "A somewhat toasty and reduced nose dominate the fruit at present but the flavors are deeper and more serious if not more elegant or complex, in fact this is a bit monolithic yet I suspect it's more due to the recent manipulations than any real absence of solid materials. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Ramonet Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Champs Canet" (90BH, 90ST). 90 points Allen Meadows: " A gentle touch of wood frames floral and very ripe orchard fruit aromas that include peach and apricot where these fruit characters continue onto the rich, full and notably sweet flavors that are nicely complex and deliver real breadth on the long finish where the wood resurfaces. This is surprisingly forward by the standards of this wine and already accessible." (Oct 01, 2007) 90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Pale straw. Musky aromas of stone fruits and nut oil show good aromatic lift. Rich and broad, but with a weightless quality. The rich, broad flavors of peach, minerals, spices and mint remain classically dry, and the finish is dusty, chewy and long. Very Puligny-Montrachet."

Floral, cedary aromas of crystallized berries (raspberry, cassis, mulberry) and graphite; extremely youthful. Thick, large-scaled and very strong in extract; layered and deep. Strong but harmonious acidity gives the wine a vibrant character. Conveys a sense of totally expressed soil. Finishes with substantial ripe tannins and superb sweetness. Vinous: "A mysterious, beguiling beauty, the 2002 Dom Ruinart Rosé boasts fabulous intensity and pure resonance. Tangerine, exotic spices, mint, crushed rose petals and sweet red berries blossom in the glass. Still, my impression is that the 2002 is holding back much of its ultimate potential, as it remains tight and much less expressive than so many other wines of the year. 2003 M. Chapoutier "De l'Orée" Ermitage Blanc
Bid on this bottle of 2003 M. Chapoutier "De l'Orée" Ermitage Blanc (99RP, 95WS, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Nearly perfect, one of the most prodigious dry white wines I have ever tasted is the 2003 Ermitage Cuvee de l’Oree. A 669-case cuvee fashioned from yields of 10 hectoliters per hectare, it offers aromas and flavors beyond anything I have previously tasted in a dry white. It tastes like a liqueur of licorice intermixed with a liqueur of honeysuckle, quince, and rocks. Opulent, viscous, and full-bodied, at first glance it is seemingly fragile and over the top, but it boasts extraordinary freshness and liveliness as well as monster concentration and a finish that lasts over 60 seconds. I suspect it will drink beautifully for 3-4 years, then go into a funky stage, and re-emerge two decades later. It may be a 100-year wine ... but who knows? Without question, it is a tour de force in winemaking. (RP)" (02/2006)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Fashioned from a parcel located in the heart of its grand cru (mostly from 25-year old vines though Raphet asserts that 'there are still some very old ones'), the 2003 Charmes-Chambertin Cuvee Unique explodes with red fruit aromas. Sappy, bursting with red cherries, this is a sensual wine made for hedonists. Medium to full-bodied, deep, and concentrated, it has serious depth of fruit, loads of smile-inducing spices and an exceptionally long, supple finish filled with superbly ripened tannin. Drink it over the next 11-14 years (incidentally, I served the 1996 at this year’s International Pinot Noir Celebration’s salmon bake in Oregon and it was terrific, wowing all who drank it.) 1970 Latour, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1970 Latour, Pauillac (96RP, 94JS, 91WS, 90ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at dinner at Domaine de Chevalier. The Latour ’70 can be such a variable beast. This is certainly one of the better, more representative bottles. Deep garnet in colour, nice limpidity in the glass. It has a beautiful nose that to be honest, sweeps aside the respectable Domaine de Chevalier ’70 poured alongside, like a lord dismissing his servant with a swish of his hand. Graphite, wild black fruit, freshly rolled tobacco and a faint hint of truffle. The palate is medium-bodied and after forty years, still quite austere but the balance is nailed. Masculine and foursquare, a Latour with a lot of horsepower…but not necessarily revving in top gear…at least not after four decades. Lovely cedar and mint on the long, long finish. Wonderful. 1966 Beychevelle, St-Julien
Bid on this bottle of 1966 Beychevelle, St-Julien (93JG). John Gilman: "Beychevelle in this era has to be one of the great unsung stars of the Médoc, and the 1966 is certainly one of the prettiest and most stunning bottles that I have tasted from this lovely château. The nose on the ’66 Beychevelle absolutely soars from the glass in a brilliant mélange of black berries, raspberries, a classic touch of Beychevelle meatiness, anise, black truffles, a whiff of mint leaf, a lovely base of earth and a pungent topnote of violet. On the palate the wine is medium-full, elegant and refined, with lovely intensity of flavor, flawless balance, and a very long, meltingly tannic, utterly refined and bouncy finish. This is one of the great sleepers still to be found in the mature claret market. A hauntingly beautiful bottle of wine cut in the Palmer mold, or more correctly, a classic Beychevelle. (Drink between 2006-2026) " (05/2011)

1977 Freemark Abbey Napa Valley Petite Sirah
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1977 Freemark Abbey Napa Valley Petite Sirah. Wine Enthusiast profiled major California producers of Petite Sirah and the evolution of the grape in the state, citing Freemark Abbey's staying power: "Napa’s Freemark Abbey first produced Petite Sirah from Fritz Maytag’s York Creek Vineyard on Spring Mountain in 1969. It still has a limited supply of its 1971 Petite Sirah (hailed as one of the finest ever made by Connoisseur’s Guide to California Wine), as well as its 1976 and 1977 offerings, also from York Creek... Some 40 years later, though, Petite Sirah has evolved. Vibrant, dark and deep purple in color, the wines are full of fruit, structure and acidity, and are very much alive. 'These wines are still opening,' says Barry Dodds, estate manager at Freemark. 'That’s their magic.'" (VB, 02/2013)

1976 Louis Martini "Special Selection" California Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1976 Louis Martini "Special Selection" California Cabernet Sauvignon. The story of Louis Martini is a key chapter in Napa's winemaking history. Genovese immigrant Louis Martini established his first business in 1922, smack in the middle of Prohibition (in force in the U.S. from 1919 until 1933). He was therefore limited to making "sacramental and medicinal" wines at first. With the end of Prohibition, Martini became one the first winemakers in California to produce vintage-dated varietal table wines in quantity, and at reasonable prices. Sourced from prime vineyards in Napa and Sonoma, including Monte Rosso in the mountains above Sonoma Valley and La Loma in the cool Carneros district south of Napa, and made with care and expertise, Louis Martini wines very commonly age exceptionally well.

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2007 Paul Autard "La Côte Ronde" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (95RP, 95WS, 92ST). Wine Spectator: "A stunner, combining the rich currant, fig and boysenberry fruit of the vintage with the region's characteristic charred apple wood, graphite, aged tobacco and black tea notes. The long, invigorating finish is supported by riveting acidity and well-embedded grip. When power and finesse work together, it's a beautiful thing. (JM)" (09/2009)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2003 Pape-Clément Blanc, Pessac-Léognan (93RP, 91ST, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Pape-Clement’s white wine is a limited, high quality cuvee generally fashioned from equal parts Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc, although the blend can vary depending on the vintage conditions. Honeyed melon and jammy apricot aromas soar from the glass of this fleshy, full-bodied, fat, chewy 2003 white. Composed of equal parts Semillon and Sauvignon, it is a pure, ripe, decadently rich wine to enjoy over the next 15+ years. (RP)" (04/2006)

Of the 2009 Williams Selyem "Westside Road Neighbors" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir,Connoisseurs Guide writes: "The release of this wine along with Williams Selyem's appellation bottlings might suggest that the winery sees it as one of its early maturing wines, but if that be the case, then we must respectfully disagree. This wine is slow to unfold in the glass, and despite the sweet, ripe character that emerges, it is also a wine that falls in distinct sections at this point. Its pulpy fruit reminiscent of dried cherries and raspberry preserves leads to an initially mouthfilling, viscous impression but also to flavors that are more than a little on the tig

Bid on this 3-bottle 1986&1988 Sauternes Tasting Lot, including 2-bottles of 1986 Rieussec, Sauternes (93RP) and 1-bottle of 1988 Raymond Lafon, Sauternes (92RP, 91WS). Of the 1986 Rieussec, Sauternes, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "Tasted at Lafite-Rothschild, the 1986 Rieussec put in a supremely confident performance and in fact, looked more youthful than the 1996. It has a focused and energetic bouquet with scents of dried honey, lychee and slightly resinous, almost Azsu-like aromas. After three decades you have to admire the undimmed energy conveyed by this Rieussec. The palate is fresh and lively, with crisp acidity, very energetic with hints of toffee apple and quince infusing the honeyed fruit. I prefer this to the 1996: there is more animation and tension from start to finish, impressive length and a spicy aftertaste. This is simply superb and begs the question: Is this actually improving in bottle? I attach a plus-sign to my score just in case! Tasted July 2016. (NM)"

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2004 Gerard Raphet Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Combottes". Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2008 Sine Qua Non "B 20" California Syrah (95RP, 94JS, 94ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Syrah B-20 is a cool, inward wine graced with layers of beautifully delineated, chiseled fruit. This is a distinctly mineral, precise style relative to the more outgoing 2009, but both are striking. Floral notes add lift as the finish turns explosive with a burst of dark fruit, tar, licorice and crushed rocks. This is one of the more understated wines readers are likely to come across from Sine Qua Non. It is gorgeous when given the time to open up. The B-20 is predominantly Syrah, with 6% Grenache and 2% Viognier. About half of the Grenache was fermented with whole clusters and the wine was aged in French oak (60% new) for 26 months. 2010 Aubert "UV-SL Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Chardonnay
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2010 Aubert "UV-SL Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Chardonnay (94RP, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Chardonnay UV-SL Vineyard boasts remarkable textural depth and finesse. Rich, round and seamless, the UV-SL is all about body and endless layers of flavor. An element of salinity gives a finish laced with white flowers and citrus of considerable freshness. This is a stunning set of wines from Mark Aubert. Both the Chardonnays and Pinots developed considerably over the time I followed them. Readers should open the wines at least several hours in advance. In general, the 2010s are brighter and more focused than the 2009s, which are more generous. Alcohol levels are also lower across the board in 2010. (AG)" (02/2012)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2010 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Les Cherbaudes" Vieille Vigne ((91-93BH)). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "*Outstanding* This is ripe yet quite cool and airy with its ultra-pure blend of red currant, plum and violet aromas. There is plenty of pungent Gevrey style earth on the seductive and strikingly refined medium-bodied flavors that are also supported by impressive mature tannins that are pushed to the background by the copious amount of dry extract. I very much like the delivery as the tannins are quite finely grained though dense and the overall sense of harmony is entirely beguiling. Drink: 2022+" (01/2012)
