2013 Shafer "Relentless" Napa Valley Syrah
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2013 Shafer "Relentless" Napa Valley Syrah ((98-100RP), (91-93VN)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The same can be said for the 2013 Syrah Relentless, which might end up being the finest one they’ve ever made. The berries were the smallest they’ve encountered, and they were not the only winery to say that about the 2013 red varietals. A blend of 97% Syrah and 3% Petite Sirah, the wine is opaque black/purple with an incredible nose of subtle wood, charcoal embers, blackberry, blueberry and black raspberry fruit, baking spices, and again, a roasted meatiness with some bouquet garni thrown in the background. The complex aromatics were already starting to roar from the glass, and the wine, enormously endowed, is full-bodied and flawlessly constructed. This is a killer effort that should drink well for 40+ years. (RP)" (10/2014)

Of the 2005 Domaine Bruno Colin Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Chenevottes",Allen Meadows - Burghound writes: "This is definitely more refined with a nose of pain grillé and rosemary oil that complements well the rich yet precise and detailed middle weight flavors that possess a really lovely sense of underlying tension and very good if not truly exceptional complexity, all wrapped in a finish brimming with dry extract." Bid on this bottle of 2004 Schrader "Beckstoffer To Kalon RBS" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (99RP, 97WS, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon RBS, made from clone 337 and aged 20 months in a combination of Darnajou and Taransaud barrels, hit 14.5% natural alcohol. This wine shows the classic Pauillac nose of cedarwood, creme de cassis, licorice and fruitcake. 2006 Williams Selyem Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2006 Williams Selyem Russian River Valley Pinot Noir (94W&S, 91ST). Wine & Spirits: "There's something in this wine that's rivetingly true to its place, a classical simplicity, as if smelling cherry blossoms in a coastal forest, or picking raspberries along Westside Road. It has the gentleness of great Russian River pinot, and a bright, happy flavor that lasts for minutes. From five neighboring vineyards, including Rochioli and Flax, with 90 percent of the fruit coming from Williams Selyem estate plantings at Drake and Litton. Winemaker Bob Cabral believes it's his best Russian River Pinot Noir in years. " (10/2008)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Clos du Caillou "Reserve" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (100RP, 97WS, 96ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The best bottle of this I've ever had, the 2005 Châteauneuf du Pape Reserve was utter perfection on this occasion. Made from a blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Mourvèdre that was raised mostly in demi-muids, it exhibits awesome notes of blackberry, licorice, smoked herbs, graphite and tinges of minerality. Decadent, massively full-bodied and with sweet tannin, this thrilling Châteauneuf is hard to resist now, yet should continue to knock it out of the park for another decade or more. (JD)" (02/2015)

2005 Kistler "Kistler Vineyard" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2005 Kistler "Kistler Vineyard" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir ((93-95RP), 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Steve Kistler has backed off extraction for his Pinot Noirs, resulting in more ethereal (but not light) Pinots that are less burdened down by tannin in their youth, with each vineyard’s distinctive fruit and terroir coming through with much greater intensity. After experimenting with some Dijon clones, Kistler became convinced that the best clone for cool climate vineyards is the Calera Clone from California, and based on what he has achieved, I can’t argue. The deep ruby/purple-hued 2005 Pinot Noir Kistler Vineyard possesses sweet blueberry, raspberry, and forest floor notes, zesty acidity, elegance, and finesse, and a medium-bodied finish. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2010 Freestone (Joseph Phelps) "Pastorale Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (94RP, 92CG, 92ST, 91BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Savory herbs, mint, licorice and sweet red cherries emerge from the 2010 Pinot Noir Estate Pastorale Vineyard. A beautifully delineated, mid-weight Pinot, the Pastorale impresses for its fabulous balance and pure personality. The 2010 is bright and focused from start to finish. Savory herbs and floral notes reappear on the finish, adding lift and finesse. It is a lovely showing from Phelps. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020. Once again, I came away deeply impressed with the wines I tasted from Joseph Phelps and their Freestone Vineyards range. These are without question some of the most polished wines being made in the Sonoma Coast today. (AG)" (04/2013)

The wine is light on its feet for such massive extraction. With not a hard edge to be found, this is truly brilliant winemaking from a great terroir. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2012 Domaine de Montille Beaune 1er Cru "Les Sizies". Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Unlike the Beaune Les Perrieres, the 2012 Beaune 1er Cru Les Sizies was completely de-stemmed in 2012. It has a tight nose of brambly black fruit and damp mossy aromas. Sharp brittle tannins and a chalky finish underpin the palate. 1967 Suduiraut, Sauternes
Bid on this bottle of 1967 Suduiraut, Sauternes. The 1967 is perhaps not a match for the 1959 or 1976, but it is certainly the best wine produced at this chateau between these two vintages. (RP)" (01/1998)

Of the 2004 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des Ducs",Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 2004 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Ducs, poured from magnum, has a deep garnet color. It feels stubborn and obdurate on the nose, as Clos des Ducs can do, with blackcurrant leaf and subtle marine influences that become more pronounced with aeration. 2013 Realm "Farella Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2013 Realm "Farella Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (98RP, 97JS, 95VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From the southeastern AVA Coombsville in the Vaca Mountains, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Farella Vineyard is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from white tufa and decomposed red volcanic sedimentary soils. For whatever reason, it seems that people who buy from this vineyard make better wine than the actual owners, which I'm sad to say, is not exactly what proprietors Tom and Frank Farella would like to hear. This is a terrific Cabernet Sauvignon made from clones 4 and 8, offering a rich nose of blackberries, dark earth, a touch of barrique, and some baking spices. The wine is rich, full-bodied, tannic and backward. Deep and super-concentrated, it needs another 2-3 years of cellaring, but should last another 25-30 years. (RP)" (12/2015)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2013 Cirq "Treehouse Vineyard" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir (97RP, 94VN, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The larger production cuvee (1,748 cases) is the 2013 Pinot Noir Treehouse Vineyard, which comes from a higher elevation site that's above the fog line, roughly eight miles from the Pacific Ocean. Its deep ruby color is followed by to-die-for notes of black raspberries, crushed violets, cassis, spice and toasted bread. Utterly perfect on the palate, with medium to full-bodied richness, an ethereal, seamless, multi-dimensional texture, fine tannin and crazy length, hats off to the team at CIRQ for this singular beauty. Offering incredible notes of creme de cassis and black currants, with beautifully integrated oak, it has medium to full-bodied richness, a seamless, layered, ultra-pure texture, fine tannin and a flat out awesome finish. Vinous: "A real overachiever, the 2013 Prince of Hearts Paradise Hills Vineyard is deep and wonderfully expressive. Black cherry, plum, violets, cloves, leather and licorice meld together in a sumptuous, intense wine that overdelivers on so many levels, one of them being price. The Prince of Hearts is a model of finesse and understatement. Readers who can find it should not hesitate. There are only a handful of wines that can match Prince of Hearts for value and pure pleasure. The blend is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Vinous: "The 2009 Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Mes Vieilles Vignes comes across as brighter and more focused than the last time I tasted it about six month ago. Expressive floral notes open into sweet apricot, peach, spice and pastry notes in a Champagne that captures the radiance of the year while maintaining a lively sense of energy. I would like to see a little more continuity through the mid-palate and finish. Otherwise, this is a delicious Blanc de Blancs from Dhondt. Dosage is 6 grams/liter. Disgorged: December 2014. 2014 Rhys Anderson Valley Pinot Noir
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2014 Rhys Anderson Valley Pinot Noir (91VN, 90RP). Vinous: "The 2014 Pinot Noir (Anderson Valley) is a new wine from Rhys made from 100% estate fruit from Bearwallow. A preference for fully destemmed fruit gives the 2014 lovely up-front intensity and more early appeal than most of the Rhys Pinots, which is a big plus for consumers. With time in the glass, the wine gains in fleshiness and succulence. Think of the Anderson Valley Pinot like a village-level wine from a top Burgundy domaine. It is the hidden gem in the Rhys lineup. 2011 Alvear Pedro Ximenez de Añada Montilla-Moriles (375ml)
Bid on this 2-half-bottle lot of 2011 Alvear Pedro Ximenez de Añada Montilla-Moriles (375ml) (100RP, 94WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Alvear’s 2011 Pedro Ximenez de Anada is the most amazing Pedro Ximenez I have ever tasted. It may also be one of the first to be vintage-dated. The grapes were hand-harvested in September, then allowed to dry in the sunshine until they began fermentation, which is ultimately arrested by the addition of spirits. The wine spent six months in large American oak prior to being bottled. It is an amazing effort that looks like molasses. Notes of macerated figs, chocolate and caramelized tropical fruits emerge from this full-bodied, unctuously-textured wine. While sweet, it has enough acidity to balance out its richness. This astonishing 2011 Pedro Ximenez will last as long as any reader of this newsletter. (RP)" (11/2013)

Of the 2013 Under The Wire "Alder Springs Vineyard" Mendocino County Brut Sparkling Wine,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 2013 Sparkling Chardonnay Alder Springs Vineyard was fermented with indigenous yeast, with malolactic blocked, and was disgorged with only one gram of dosage, so this is quite dry. Loads of creamy brioche, Red Delicious apple skin, Triscuit and some subtle, smoky orange and nectarine notes are all present in this medium-bodied sparkler with small, uniform bubbles and a zesty effervescence. 2014 Sea Smoke Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2014 Sea Smoke Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay. This wine has yet to be professionally reviewed. From the winery: "Our estate-grown Chardonnay fruit was picked and hand-sorted in the vineyard before spending the night in our cold room. Chilled grapes were softly pressed and the juice was gently pumped into a stainless steel tank and cold settled. Once the heavy solids were removed, the juice was racked to both French oak barrels and a stainless steel fermentor, then inoculated for primary fermentation. Following primary fermentation, the wine was inoculated for malolactic fermentation and barrels were periodically stirred to enhance depth and mouthfeel. The 2014 Sea Smoke Chardonnay was aged for a total of 16 months prior to bottling."

From a vineyard called Atoosa, this full-bodied wine is limited in production, but boasts fabulous notes of graphite, blackberry, spring flowers, and creme de cassis with some scorched earth and spice in the background. Of the 1995 Turley "Aida" Napa Valley Zinfandel,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: " ... The color is a deep, dense, murky garnet. Jammy black-cherries, kirsch, strawberries, pepper, and earth make for one of the most complex smelling Zinfandels I have ever experienced. In the mouth, the wine is phenomenally rich, with no sense of flabbiness, high alcohol, or pruniness. It is an extraordinary, full-throttle Zinfandel that should be a benchmark for future Aida Vineyard Zinfandels. The wine's sumptuousness and low acidity suggest immediate drinkability, but this wine's massive richness indicates it will keep for 8 or more years. (RP)" (06/1997)

2003 Maison Leroy Bourgogne Rouge
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2003 Maison Leroy Bourgogne Rouge. From S. Irene Virbilia in the LA Times: "This is classic Pinot Noir from one of the greatest names in Burgundy. Domaine Leroy's lineup ranges from this Bourgogne Rouge at about $35 to bottles costing several hundred dollars. And though the price may seem high for an entry-level Burgundy, the 2003 Bourgogne Rouge is better than many premier crus at twice the price. With its gorgeous fruit and exquisite balance, this is no simple Burgundy, and Lalou Bize-Leroy is no average winemaker. Get it before it's snatched off the shelves. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2011 Sanguis "Bossman" Central Coast Syrah (93RP, 93ST, 92WE, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A more long term prospect, the 2011 Syrah Bossman (100% Syrah) comes all from Bien Nacido and spent 28 months in 15% new oak. Showing classic Santa Barbara County Syrah notes of dark fruits, exotic pepper, smoked herbs and hints of leather, it flows onto the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a seamless, elegant texture and fine tannin. Dark, jammy fruit, chocolate and spice notes are fused together in the glass. This is absolutely delicious Napa Valley Cabernet made in an opulent, flamboyant style. It will drink well with minimal cellaring. In my view, the appellation Cabernet is the hidden gem in this lineup. Dollops of Merlot and Petit Verdot round out the blend.
