Of the 2016 Aubert "Sugar Shack" Napa Valley Chardonnay,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 2016 Chardonnay Sugar Shack Estate is opulent straight out of the gate, with stunning orange peel, candied ginger, nutmeg and ripe apricot with touches of cashews and croissant. The full-bodied palate explodes with expressive bread, nut, spice and stone fruit layers, marked by a lively line of acid that lifts the fruit and gives a long, gregarious finish. (LPB)" (10/2017)

2008 Saxum "James Berry Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Saxum "James Berry Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend (98JD, 98RP, 97WS, 95ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 James Berry Vineyard (52% Grenache, 31% Mourvedre, and 17% Syrah) saw some of its Grenache aged in the concrete eggs that are now catching on among some of the top producers on California’s Central Coast. With strong minerality from the limestone soil, this exuberant, fleshy, full-bodied wine is already drinking well. (I believe it was actually bottled just a day or two before my visit, which makes its performance that much more remarkable.) Dense purple, with sweet notes of barbecue smoke and meats as well as roasted herbs, extravagant black cherry, black currant, and blackberry fruit are all present in this wine, but there is plenty of underlying structure that comes from both the minerality and the Mourvedre component. Pure, full-bodied, but again, impressively elegant and nuanced, this is a tour de force and another prodigious exam

Marvelous blend of vanilla, cream, tobacco-box notes, with a lot of oak on it for now but also loads of pure, clean and elegant fruit. An infant that will age for a long time.--Yquem vertical. 2004 Zind Humbrecht Hunawihr "Clos Windsbuhl Vendange Tardive" Riesling (375ml)
Bid on this 6-half-bottle lot of 2004 Zind Humbrecht Hunawihr "Clos Windsbuhl Vendange Tardive" Riesling (375ml) (94RP, 94ST, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Humbrecht insists he was amazed at just how much acidity and ripeness the cool summer, warm dry September, and attack of noble rot and shriveling combined to concentrate in his 2004 Riesling Clos Windsbuhl Vendange Tardive. At 9% alcohol, 93 grams of residual sugar, and with extreme 12 grams (tartaric) acidity by Alsace standards, this delicate yet almost piercing essence of Riesling plays more by Germanic rules. Lime, tangerine, nectarine, honey, and subtle smokiness usher in an explosively citric and unctuously honeyed palate display, and the finish nearly threatens to draw blood. One can't say that this is hugely complex as yet, but these are early days for such a wine, which I would not revisit for at least five years and plan on holding for at least two decades. 2010 Araujo "Altagracia" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2010 Araujo "Altagracia" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (96RP, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Altagracia is surprisingly huge in this vintage. Layers of exotic black fruit, spices, mocha and espresso burst onto the palate with striking depth, power and richness. There is an immediacy to the 2010 that is simply compelling. No longer a true second wine, Altagracia now also includes a small amount of purchased fruit and is being crafted to stand on its own. The 2010 achieves that, and so much more. It is a fabulous effort from the team at Araujo. (AG)" (12/2012)

2012 Myriad "Beckstoffer Georges III" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2012 Myriad "Beckstoffer Georges III" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (97RP, 93JS, (91-93ST)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From the famous George III vineyard, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard has a haunting bouquet of cedar wood, juicy blackcurrant jam and forest floor. A soil note enhances the overall picture. The wine has gorgeously sweet well-integrated tannins, no evidence of new oak (as it’s so well-integrated), a plush, voluptuously textured full-bodied mouthfeel and a knockout finish. This is sensational wine that can easily be a modern-day version of one of the great BV Private Reserves from decades ago, although in this case it’s aged in French oak, not American. Kudos to Mike Smith. Look for this to drink well for 20 or more years. (RP)" (10/2014)

2013 Larkmead "Solari" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2013 Larkmead "Solari" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon ((94-97VN), 96JS, 96RP). Vinous: "Massive and structured to the core, the 2013 Solari is another totally captivating wine from Larkmead. Lavender, blackberry jam, cassis, mint, new leather and smoke saturate the palate as this dramatic, full-bodied wine shows off its captivating personality and huge sense of structure. Today the tannins are searing an intense, but there is more than enough fruit to go the distance. I sincerely hope readers will have the discipline to forget about the 2013s for a good 7-10 years, and even that may not be enough. This is a stunning set of wines from Larkmead. The 2012s are big, powerful Cabernets that will require quite a bit of patience. They are among the most structured wines of the year I tasted. The 2013s are even more intense. After a little bit of a hiccup with 2011, the winemaker transition from Andy Smith to Dan Petroski seems to have occurred pretty smoothly. Pet

2007 Seavey "Caravina" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 2007 Seavey "Caravina" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (94RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Readers looking for value in Napa Valley reds need look no further than Seavey’s 2007 Caravina. Last year I wrote that it was the finest second wine they had yet made, and now that it’s in bottle, I can reiterate - it is a sensational effort. Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged 19 months in French oak casks, this 525-case cuvee is a sleeper of the vintage. This silky smooth, inky/purple-colored wine offers up notes of roasted herbs, cedar, chocolate, espresso beans, and black fruits. Sweet, round, opulent, textured, and fleshy, this beauty can be enjoyed now or cellared for 15 more years. (RP)" (12/2009)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Sea Smoke "Southing" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir (95WE, 92WS, 91VN). Wine Enthusiast: "The most balanced of Sea Smoke’s three new Pinots, Southing was aged in about two-thirds new oak, which gives rich caramel, toasted coconut and exotic spice notes to the ripe fruit flavors. The wine explodes with cherries, raspberries, mulberries and even chocolate mint, finishing long and spicy, and leaving the impression of wholesomeness and completeness. Now showing its peak of youthful vivacity, this should develop for an additional six years." (12/2007)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2001 Kistler "Hirsch Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. Stephen Tanzer on Kistler's 2001 vintage: "Steve Kistler describes 2001 as 'a wonderful vintage where the natural yeasts and malolactic bacteria behaved themselves nicely. We were able to sulfur the wines by the first of the new year,' he went on. The pHs are in the 3.3 to 3.4 range, as low as in 2000. The wines are delicious now but should last well. Of the 1998 Turley "Duarte" Contra Costa County Zinfandel,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "Turley's great success is the terrific 1998 Zinfandel Duarte Vineyard. Made from one of their oldest vineyards (104-year old vineyard planted in pure sand), whose grapes achieved 15.8% alcohol naturally, it is the finest Duarte yet produced. Strikingly fresh and pure bouquet of strawberry, raspberry and dried flowers; smells like Pinot Noir. Clean and brisk, with a silky texture, sweet red berry flavors and soft tannins. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2014 Rivers-Marie "Occidental Ridge Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (95VN). Vinous: "The 2014 Pinot Noir Occidental Ridge Vineyard is one of the most powerful, structured wines in this range. Dark red berry, blueberry, spice, menthol and savory herbs flesh out, while incisive tannins and beams of acidity give the Occidental Ridge its characteristic focus and intensity. Hints of violet, lavender and mint reappear on the vibrant, beautifully delineated finish. The Occidental Ridge is going to need time to come around, but it is compelling, even at this early stage. 2011 Marcassin "Marcassin Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Chardonnay
Bid on this bottle of 2011 Marcassin "Marcassin Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Chardonnay (97RP, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2011 is a great Chardonnay Marcassin Vineyard from a much-maligned and sometimes excessively criticized vintage. 2011 has its low points, but there are many producers who got it right, and survived the challenging growing and harvest conditions. This wine has phenomenal intensity, with plenty of crushed rock, pineapple, honeysuckle, orange and tangerine blossom in an elegant, medium to full-bodied style, with terrific intensity, good acidity and freshness. This is more evolved than either the 2009 or 2010, and probably will be a candidate for 7-8 years of aging, rather than 10 or more. (RP)" (08/2015)

Of the 2015 Aubert Carneros Chardonnay,Robert Parker writes writes: "Mark Aubert continues to set the bar incredibly high for the world-class quality of his Burgundian-styled, remarkable Chardonnays, which come from relatively cool sites spread from Rutherford in Napa Valley to the far reaches of the Sonoma Coast. As I indicated last year, Aubert is at the top of his game, and it is hard to believe any Chardonnay winemaker in the world is turning out a half-dozen Chardonnays at this qualitative level year in and year out. He has had an incredible run of great success, after being mentored by none other than the reclusive and supremely talented Helen Turley when he took over the winemaking job at Peter Michael, then proceeded on to impressive sojourns at Colgin Estate as well as Tom Futo’s winery in Oakville."

2003 Montrose, St-Estèphe
Bid on this bottle of 2003 Montrose, St-Estèphe (98RP, 97JS, 96VN, 95WE, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Montrose was served blind in Bordeaux on two occasions. Picked between 11 to 26 September, it is a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. It remains one of the outstanding wines of a very black and white vintage. Without knowledge of the vintage, I was hesitant to suggest 2003, because though there is clearly fruit intensity locked up inside this Saint Estèphe, it is counterbalanced by the estate's trademark masculinity and austerity. So both on the nose and the palate it reaches this happy medium: pure blackberry, graphite and roasted herbs on the nose, perhaps even more elegant than I have observed on previous bottles. The palate is medium-bodied rather than full bodied with sturdy tannins couched in layers of seamless blackberry and cassis fruit, offset by scents of tobacco and graphite. As usual it has immense length a

Bid on this bottle of 1974 Robert Mondavi "Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (93RP, 93VN, 92JG). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A consistent star of the vintage, this fully mature wine exhibits no sign of losing its fruit. The color is saturated dark plum/garnet with slight amber at the edge. The bouquet has always been ostentatious, with pungent aromas of cassis, pepper, herbs, licorice, cedar, and Asian spices. Full-bodied and superbly balanced, with that layered, expansive richness found in top, highly extracted wines, the acidity is low but sound, and the tannin has nearly melted away. This stunning, opulent, complex California Cabernet Sauvignon should continue to drink well for another decade or more. (RP)" (06/1994)

1998 Domaine Joseph Drouhin Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 1998 Domaine Joseph Drouhin Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru (92JG, 91ST). John Gilman: "It had been a few years since I last tasted the 1998 Drouhin Griotte, but the wine is evolving beautifully and is very much showing as I had hoped when first tasting it out of barrel back in 2000. The nose continues to offer up a lovely aromatic blend defined by its transparency down to the soil, as it delivers notes of red and black cherries, a touch of blood orange, a discreet streak of vegetality reminiscent of the 1991s, game and an outstanding base of soil. On the palate the wine remains medium-full, deep and intensely flavored, with cool fruit tones, fine focus and balance, lovely mid-palate depth, fine grip and still a bit of tannin to resolve on the long, complex and classy finish. Still a few years away, the 1998 Drouhin Griotte remains on track to be an extremely complex and refined middleweight at its zenith. (Drink between 2012-2030) 92+" (09/2008)

Of the 2003 Pride Mountain "Reserve" Sonoma-Napa Counties Claret,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 2003 Reserve Claret is a blend of 67% Merlot and 33% Cabernet Sauvignon that achieved 14.4% alcohol. An exquisite candidate for wine of the vintage, it comes from a vineyard high on the summit of Spring Mountain. Eighty-three percent of the fruit comes from Sonoma and the rest from Napa County as the vineyard sits astride the county lines. Its dark plum/garnet color reveals a slight lightening at the edge. A beautiful nose of cedarwood, forest floor, red and black currants, kirsch and plum is followed by a full-bodied wine with great freshness, a rich, textured mouthfeel and sensationa

2004 Maybach Family "Materium" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 2004 Maybach Family "Materium" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon (95RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Named after the famed luxury car, Maybach has none other than Thomas Brown as its winemaker, who produced this debut vintage of 340 cases from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from a single-parcel on the Silverado Trail in the Oakville sector. This is a deadly serious wine, and when compared to the price of a Maybach car, a great value. A beautifully sculptured style of wine with deep purple color, with a sweet nose of creme de cassis, pain grille, spice box, and loamy soil notes, the wine has fabulous intensity, great purity (as one might expect given the winemaker), sweet silky tannins, and a terrific finish of close to 50 seconds. This is a stunning opening salvo from the Maybach family, and a wine that should age easily for 20-25 years. (RP)" (12/2007)

Weighty and ripe but with an unlikely freshness, showing deep, focused orchard and pit fruit qualities and undercurrents of stony minerals and toasted nuts. There is plenty of volume to the rich, intense and mouth coating middle weight flavors that exude a fine minerality on the gorgeously complex, strikingly well-delineated and bone dry finish. Bid on this bottle of 1999 Vincent Girardin Corton Bressandes Grand Cru ((90-93ST)). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium ruby. Superripe aromas of gunflint, game, smoke and earth; less precise and vibrant than the Pommard Rugiens or Grands Epenots. Then sweet, supple and dense, if not yet as explosive or expressive as Girardin wines from Volnay and Pommard. 'This is more hermetic,' says Girardin, adding that this cuvee is from 'cooler' soil. But a wine of noteworthy style and finesse. Finishes with smooth, fine tannins and superb persistence. (ST)" (04/2001)

Bid on this bottle of 1998 Domaine Perrot-Minot Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Fuées" Vieilles Vignes. Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium-deep red. Sauvage aromas of black raspberry, mocha and fresh blood. Sweeter and fruitier than Perrot-Minot's '98 Morey-Saint-Denis La Riotte or Chambolle villages, with more inner-mouth complexity. Herbal and mineral notes contribute complexity. A moderately fleshy but pliant wine with a lightness of touch missing in the extended cold maceration wines. More finesse here but also rather herbal today and a bit austere on the finish. (ST)" (03/2000)

Intense, mineral-dominated aromas of redcurrant, wild strawberry and fresh rose, with a suave Asian spice quality gaining power with air. Of the 2007 Alesia Green Valley Pinot Noir ,Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar writes: "Medium red. Seductive scents of strawberry, raspberry, cinnamon and frankincense, with a strong floral overtone: talk about exotic-or erotic. Sweet red fruit flavors are given a firm edge by pomegranate and blood orange notes, with slow-building spice and rose elements adding complexity. 2007 Domaine Bruno Colin Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "En Remilly"
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2007 Domaine Bruno Colin Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "En Remilly" (92RP, 91BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A greenhouse-like profusion of flowering and leafy things issues from the glass of Bruno Colin 2007 Chassagne-Montrachet En Remilly, which comes from more than 50 year old vines and acreage he still officially splits with his father (see under Michel Colin-Deleger in this report). Ripe peach and melon join in on a silken palate whose generous fruit is pitted against a firm sense of stoniness, bitter notes of fruit pit, and a refreshing citric brightness. This displays the lift, refinement, and subtle complexity which this vintage is capable of combining with generous fruit, here tinged in a long finish with flowers, herbs, and myriad things mineral. 2009 Domaine Delarche Corton-Renardes Grand Cru
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2009 Domaine Delarche Corton-Renardes Grand Cru. This is one of those wine that ends up with a Star beside it in my tasting book (a rare thing). My notes read: This is Grand Cru Corton, beyond any doubt. It has minerality and lovely fruit. It was a bit compressed from being recently bottled, but had terrific weight and potential. Heady, expansive aromas of dark berries, cherry-cola, Asian spices and musky herbs, with a floral overtone. Stains the palate with intense blackberry and cherry compote flavors and shows very good energy and lift. Tannins come on late and fold smoothly into the wine's bright, densely packed fruit. Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Marius Delarche Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru "Ile des Vergelesses". About the domaine: "Burgundy from Domaine Marius Delarche stands as an example of what great wine can and should be: both memorable and affordable. We first came across the family’s tiny cellars in Pernand-Vergelesses in the early 1990s, and honestly couldn’t believe what we saw, or tasted. Vinous: "A big, explosive wine, the 2012 Esprit de Tablas is warm and ample on the palate, very much in the style of the year, yet there is plenty of power lying in reserve. In 2012, Syrah plays a larger role than in both the 2010 and 2011, which is felt in the wine broad, expansive personality. This is going to be a fascinating Esprit to follow over the coming years. 2011 Saxum "Bone Rock - James Berry Vineyard" Paso Robles Syrah
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2011 Saxum "Bone Rock - James Berry Vineyard" Paso Robles Syrah (98RP, 97VN, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Decidedly cool climate in character, the 2011 James Berry Vineyard Bone Rock comes from steep, terraced plots of old head trained Syrah vines that, in 2011, wasn’t harvested until November. Co-fermented with a splash of Roussanne and Mourvedre, it’s a spectacular effort that makes the most of the cool, long growing season. It’s also the most long term prospect in the lineup. Offering up a tight, Cornas-like bouquet of black and blue fruits, white pepper, spring flowers and salty minerality, it is full-bodied, beautifully concentrated and seamless on the palate, with ultra-fine tannin and building richness that only starts to develop with a healthy decant. It’s a gorgeous wine, yet needs to be forgotten for at least 4-5 years. It should drink nicely through 2031. (JD)" (08/2014)
