2007 Magdelaine, St-Emilion

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Performing much better than it did from cask, Magdelaine’s elegant 2007 (virtually all Merlot) exhibits a Chateauneuf du Pape-like kirsch component intermixed with licorice and spice. Supple-textured, medium-bodied, and fruity, it is ideal for drinking over the next decade." (4/2010) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Moderately saturated dark red. Aromas of black cherry, licorice, menthol and tree bark, with a floral nuance. Supple and silky but a bit folded in on itself today, with reticent red and darker fruit flavors firmed on the end by iron and mineral nuances. Finishes with good brea ...Read More »

1998 Magdelaine, St-Emilion (1.5L) (Previously $349)

94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Very deep ruby-red with the barest hint of amber at the rim. Rich, deep, utterly captivating aromas of black cherry, red plum and cocoa, complicated by a hint of vanilla and a lovely spicy calcaire freshness. Very dense, rich and lush on the palate, with spicy raspberry, graphite, white pepper and mineral flavors displaying palate-staining intensity and amazing precision. A huge wine for Magdelaine, with a silky mouthfeel and mineral and pepper notes lingering on the finish for minutes. One sip and you understand what a wine of remarkable breed and elega ...Read More »

1998 Magdelaine, St-Emilion

95 points John Gilman: "The 1998 Château Magdelaine is a brilliant young wine and it seems very likely, at this early point in its development, that this vintage will ultimately rank as one of the greatest ever produced at this iconic estate. The bouquet is deep, pure and very elegant in profile, wafting from the glass in a nascently complex blend of black cherries, cassis, menthol, cigar smoke, Magdelaine’s inimitably complex soil tones and a touch of smoky new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and rock solid at the core, with impeccable balance, fine-grained ta ...Read More »

1981 Magdelaine, St-Emilion

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet core with dark brick rim. A stupendous nose: briary, earth with a hint of mint chocolates. Very fresh and defined. The palate does not quite match the nose but is remarkably fresh with a certain "cool" character deriving from the fresh, almost citrus acidity and great definition. Quite tannic, the texture is more akin to a Left Bank wine. Moderate concentration. Some dryness on the finish. Otherwise a superb claret that is perfect as an accompaniment to food. Then at Paul Rhodes tasting in Oct-04: a sweet, earthy nose this time with more plum ...Read More »

2010 Magdelaine, St-Emilion
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2010 Magdelaine, St-Emilion (95WS, 94JS, 93WE, 92RP, 91VN). Wine Spectator: "Jam-packed, with mouthfilling notes of blackberry preserves, crushed blueberry, plum skin and anise, showing loads of singed wood spice and briar for a lively texture. Stays supergrippy through the finish and needs a little time to round into form, but the range is serious and the length very impressive. Best from 2015 through 2030. " (03/2013)

1975 Magdelaine, St-Emilion

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep ruby with a hint of garnet at the rim; the dark color has always been a characteristic of the wines of 1975. Very closed nose hints at ripe red cherry, fresh orange peel, flowers, leather and cinnamon. Cherry-vanilla, cassis and cedar flavors are somewhat chunky and sweet, and are lifted by an intense mineral note. The finish features a tangy cherry skin note and lingers with good saline and spicy length, but the tannins are distinctly chewy. I like this wine's big, rich mouthfeel, but I find it a little less refined than many other vintages of Magd ...Read More »
