2009 Branas Grand Poujeaux, Moulis Top Pick!
2009 Branas Grand Poujeaux, Moulis

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A sleeper of the vintage from the backwater appellation of Moulis, the 2009 Branas Grand Poujeaux is a blend of 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Petit Verdot. A big-time wine, opaque purple in color, with loads of cassis, smoke, incense and licorice as well as an earthiness reminiscent of a St.-Estephe, this wine is full-bodied and long, with sweet tannin and an overall classic constitution. It can be approached now but should age nicely for 15-20 years. (RP)" (12/2011) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Clearly ripe, with a juicy core of dark fig, cassis and blackberry flavo ...Read More »

2000 Chasse-Spleen, Moulis

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted blind at Bordeaux Index‚Äôs 2000 tasting in London. This is reticent on the nose at first, but opens up nicely with time, blackberry, plum, black coffee, cedar and a slight estuarine note. The palate is full-bodied with grippy tannins on the entry, firm backbone and good depth. Stern and masculine, a saline note towards the cedar and tobacco scented, sappy finish. This is a great showing for Chasse Spleen and comes recommended for the vintage. Drink 2012-2030. Tasted March 2010. (NM)" (9/2010) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Under any new classification, this should certainly be a c ...Read More »

2016 Chasse-Spleen, Moulis (Pre-Arrival)

92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Chasse-Spleen has a very elegant bouquet with neatly integrated oak, the terroir really showing through here, hints of cedar and smoke emerging with time. The palate is fresh as a button on the entry. It is cut through with a superb line of acidity that engenders superb tension, the tannins firm but fine with a subtle marine influence towards the persistent finish. This is a fabulous Chasse-Spleen, the best I have ever tasted from the estate. It could end up at the top of by banded score. (NM)" (4/2017) 92-93 points James Suckling: "A solid and linear young wine with blackcurr ...Read More »

2015 Chasse-Spleen, Moulis (Pre-Arrival)

94-95 points James Suckling: "This is a very solid 2015 with lots of tannin and fruit at the finish. Full body. Long finish. Impressive. One of the best ever from here." (4/2016) 92-94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Barrel Sample. The pure red-fruit flavors of this wine shoot through the firm tannins to give freshness while allowing plenty of space for the development of the tannins. It is a wine that shows both the fruit and the structure of the vintage. (RV)" (4/2016) 89-92 points Wine Spectator: "Enticing, with a tangy iron note to the fresh red currant and bitter cherry fruit flavors, followed by a lingering sanguine edge on the pleasantly dusty fin ...Read More »

2003 Chasse-Spleen, Moulis

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Always one of the star crus bourgeois, Chasse-Spleen has produced a 2003 that manages to combine the rich, ripe fruits of the year with the right tannins and sweetness, along with blackberry fruits. It has the elegance and delicacy of Moulis, as well as some good intensity of flavor." (5/2006) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Soft and voluptuous with plenty of red and black currant fruit notes intermixed with licorice, spice box and underbrush, this well-made, medium to full-bodied 2003 has good precision and freshness." (8/2014) Jancis Robinson: "Very dark. Some strange wood on the nose -- a bit like easter ...Read More »

1988 Chasse-Spleen, Moulis

According to Robert Parker: "Chasse-Spleen made a good, elegant 1988. Displaying a generous, intense, smoky, black currant bouquet and chewy, medium-bodied flavors, it has a surprisingly long, spicy, soft finish." And, from Wine Spectator: "Currant and grilled meat, with hints of sweet tobacco on the nose. Full-bodied, with soft and silky tannins, but a little tart on the finish. Falls a little short. Needs drinking." (Web only, 2009)
