1999 Nicolas Feuillatte "Palmes d'Or" Brut Champagne
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Vivid gold. Peach, orange zest and gingerbread on the pungent, smoky nose and in the mouth. Lush and expansive, offering very good depth and power and picking up exotic toffeed apple and marzipan nuances with aeration. Closes sappy and long, with resonating spice and orange notes and a touch of candied fig.
Showing age, with hints of iodine and oyster shell, this is nonetheless vibrant and focused, offering a very fine texture and flavors of lemon peel, white raspberry, fresh ginger, biscuit and honey. Drink now through 2019.
This dry, crisp wine is balanced, finely integrated, packed with grapefruit and green apple flavors. There is just a sign of maturing in its toastiness, giving some richness to the otherwise steely texture. A success.
