2011 Puy-Blanquet, St-Emilion (Pre-Arrival)
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Bright ruby. Aromatic nose features plum, dried flowers, licorice and sweet spices, lifted by a mocha nuance. Lush, broad and sweet, but with good inner-mouth energy to the soft, creamy red fruit, floral and spice flavors. Very easygoing, uncomplicated wine, finishing with fine-grained tannins, decent length and a light touch. I think I could drink a bottle of this on my own.
Another property in the JP Moueix stable that balances tradition, quality and value. The Puy-Blanquet vineyards span 49 acres overlooking the Dordogne Valley and are planted to 75% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Black cherry and raspberry aromas and good mid-palate sweetness. Value.
