2011 Andrew Murray "Tous les Jours" Santa Ynez Valley Syrah
Wine & Spirits
*Best Buy!* The 2011 Syrah Tous les Jours is now 100% Santa Ynez Valley AVA and wonderfully smooth and delicious. Both fruit forward and spicy, this Syrah easily beats out other wines at over twice the price.
Another fresh, perfumed red, the 2011 Syrah Tous les Jours once again lives up to its name in providing huge everyday value. Violets, spices, licorice and blackberries all come together in the glass. Stylistically, in 2011 the Tous les Jours is a fairly restrained, feminine Syrah, but it all works. The 2011 was made from an assortment of Santa Ynez sites, with a dollop of Paso fruit thrown into the mix, and spent eleven months in French oak barrels. Drinking window: 2013 - 2016 This range of wines from Andrew Murray stands out for so many reasons. Most importantly, the wines are drop-dead gorgeous, but they also remain incredibly reasonably priced considering the quality of what goes into the bottle. Generally, the wines are made with indigenous yeasts and only sulfured after the malolactic fermentations are complete. But those are details. What stands out most is just how site specific the wines are. For the sake of simplicity, I have included all of the Andrew Murray wines here, even though some wines were made partially or entirely from Paso Robles fruit.
Rhone specialist Andrew Murray makes this affordable Syrah from Paso Robles and Santa Ynez Valley grapes. Previous vintages of Tous les Jours have been called a "Crozes-Hermitage look-alike." Sourcing several select vineyards, the 2011 bottling is the first vintage to officially be Santa Ynez Valley appelation. The grapes are hand-sorted and some whole clusters are included in the fermentation as well. The wine is then aged in 100% French oak barrels for 11 months. Aromas of black cherry and raspberry with white pepper reverberate on the palate with earthy forest floor and a subtle smokiness. This bottling gives amazing bang for your buck with a genuinely unique expression.
