2012 Envinate "Lousas" Vino de Aldea Ribeira Sacra (Previously $25)
Mid crimson. Delicate redcurrant fruit with an attractive smoky/dustiness. Dry finish. Very delicate and low in tannin and, especially, acidity for such a young wine. Most distinctive. Friendly and fruity but doesn't actually taste all that Atlantic!
Envinate was founded by four young winemakers-to-be who teamed up after studying enology in Alicante. The name means "wine-yourself," and although thoroughly contemporary in their outlook, their focus is on exploring the "ancient, Atlantic-infused terruños of Ribeira Sacra and the Canary Islands," according to the importer. "Their philosophy is simple; let each parcela or single parcel fully express itself by utilizing old-fashioned farming and wine-making methods." This includes foot-stomping and whole-cluster fermentations in small vats, bottling directly from the barrel! Open a bottle to an Iberian adventure.
