This great bottle of red from the Colli Orientali Del Friuli steps in to fill the role of old fashioned right bank Bordeaux, a category that has all but disappeared. Luckily, the 100 point rating system, 200% new oak elevage and high tech, invasive wine making techniques haven't taken over North East Italy. This wine is a blend of 60% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Refosco. It has a dark purple color and a generous nose of plum and tobacco. On the palate the Ermacora Riul has great earthy, animal flavor and plenty of balck fruit to back it up. This wine is a great partner for a steak now or in the future!
