2011 Les Forts de Latour, Pauillac
This wine is characterized by both structure and rich fruitiness. A dark, smoky character brings out the solid tannins that underlie the black currant fruitiness and the balance. Although it doesn’t have power, an intensity gives a flavor that lasts in the mouth. Drink this wine from 2018.

One of the finest second wines now being made, Les Forts de Latour comes from the same parcel every year. The 2011 is composed of 61.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 38.5% Merlot. Forty-three percent of the Latour production was relegated to this cuvee. Its opaque purple color is accompanied by a big, sweet nose of creme de cassis, underbrush, licorice and incense. Medium to full-bodied, deep, fleshy and already appealing, this 2011 should gain complexity over the next 5-7 years, and last for 15-20. (RP)
A tightly coiled version, with a strong iron base that keeps the core of plum, black currant and bitter cherry pinned down for now. A bolt of graphite courses through the finish. This is very solid, showing some serious cut. Best from 2016 through 2026.
Aromas of dried berries and fresh herbs such as lemongrass. Full body with firm, chewy tannins and a chocolate, pie-crust, berry and mineral character. A little salty and mineral. Needs at least five to six years.
Inky crimson with a greyish crimson rim. Very ripe damson and plum, a little bit jammy. Then much more upright and firm. Juicy as well as chewy. Good fruit depth and a long dry, chalky finish. (JH)

Bright red-ruby. Fresh dark berries, flint and herbs on the nose. Spicy and taut, offering good lift to its blackcurrant and herb flavors, but high acidity gives this wine an almost shrill quality. Slightly pinched on the finish, with the blackcurrant and licorice notes repeating. -
