2006 La Mission Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan
Wonderful sweet fruit, velvet in texture, with concentrated ripe fruits and red berries. This is a wine that rolls sumptuously around the mouth, the tannins certainly dense but full of the same sweetness as the fruit. The final flavor is perfumed and fresh. Deceptively attractive, it will profit from many years’ aging.
Almost jammy, with vanilla bean and coffee undertones. Full-bodied and very powerful, with big, juicy tannins and a long finish. Very big and generous for the vintage, showing exceptional quality. Best after 2015.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
A somewhat under-the-radar La Mission, the 2006 was generally overlooked following the brilliance of the 2005. A young, dense purple-hued wine that is developing beautifully, it exhibits notes of Asian plum sauce, charcoal, barbecue smoke, roasted meats, graphite and background oak. Full-bodied with good acidity, moderate tannin and a vigorous, powerful youthfulness, the 2006 will age more quickly than the 2005, but it still requires another 5-8 years of cellaring. Anticipated Maturity: 2014-2035.

Bright red-ruby. Redcurrant, cherry, iron, brown spices and licorice on the nose. Begins lush, full and generous if not overly sweet, then tightens up with air, showing its rather powerful underlying structure. This sharply delineated wine will need a good seven or eight years in bottle to reveal itself.
Dark and mysterious-looking. Aromatic and very sweet on the front palate with some spice and minerals. Very distinctive and ambitious. Super lively. Lots tucked in there. Very impressive.
Barrel tasting: **+ 59% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Cabernet Franc. Tons of richness and tannin on the palate. Very sweet, with mineral undertones. Big wine with a tough edge. Should be superb after a long aging period. Ralph Sands: Loads of very strong fruit, very tightly concentrated, lots of tannin and acid. Patience required. Alex Brisoux: Ripe red fruit, spicy lush middle, sexy long finish. Excellent wine! One of the best of the vintage.
