2006 Terre da Vino "Essenze" Barolo (Elsewhere $38)
Essenza is a ripe expression of Nebbiolo from the 2006 vintage with earthy nuances, wild berry and pressed red rose. This Barolo offers very good dimension and overall depth of aroma, backed by a thicker, pulpier mouthfeel. The tannins are still young so let this wine age at least five more years.
Firm and racy, with lots of plum and dried spice aromas and flavors. Medium body. Long finish. Better after 2012.
Roasted chestnut, powerful oak, morello chery and spice bouquet. Closed on the palate but lots of oak flavour and grippy tannins. Modern; fruit is dense and rich. Alc: 14%. Drink 2013-18.
Terre da Vino is a co-operative that sources fruit from multiple different Barolo communes. The "Essenze" is a blend of individual crus from La Volta in Barolo, Ravera in Novello, Scarrone and Montanello in Castiglione Falletto, Bussia in Monforte and Annunziata in La Morra, some of Barolo's most famous vineyards. This is a full bodied wine, with lots of dense forward fruit, a touch of earth and classic Barolo structure and years of life ahead. It has enough fruit to enjoy now and a price that will allow you to experiment with some bottles!
