2010 Les Clos Perdus "Prioundo" Corbières
80% Grenache, 20% carefully deleafed etc Cinsault. Unoaked. Delightful bitter cherry sensation. No oak in the way of that dry, rocky terrain. Pure, Carignan-free Corbières. Wonder if this blend is legal? It certainly should be. Long and bright fruited with a kick of acidity and medium weight. No sign of heat. Very well done. 17/20 points. Drink from 2012-2016
Les Clos Perdus is a small winery based in the village of Peyriac de Mer in the Languedoc region in the South of France. Founded by Paul Old and Hugo Stewart, Les Clos Perdus (Lost Vineyards) mission is to discover and nurture select parcels of old vines scattered throughout the hillsides. Many of these small vineyards had been disregarded by larger producers because of their isolation, low cropping potential, and their inability to be machine harvested. Their ultimate goal is to produce distinctive, well-balanced wines of the very highest quality. Prioundo contains 80% Grenache and 20% Cinsault from select vineyards in the Corbières hills, near the village of Villesèque. The wine's bouquet is floral in character, but also evokes a fresh fruit bowl of strawberries and raspberries. On the palate this medium-plus-bodied wine presents itself as fresh and vibrant. Ripe fruit envelops the palate while fine tannins provide extra dimension and texture. The Prioundo is an excellent choice to enjoy with grilled tuna prepared with fresh herbs. 14.5% abv.
