Merlot? Yes- and what a wine it is. Mayacamas is the Napa exception, high up a dirt road on Spring Mountain, wine is their passion and livelihood. I always recommend visiting to folks from out of town, as it is one of the last places in Napa that does not look like Disneyland. Here you will find mismatched old barrels, and plywood on top of concrete fermenters, all tools working making some of the most soulful, long lived wines in California. This Merlot was released at 10 years old, and justifies its premium price with wonderful developed plum and cedar on the nose, preserves on the palate and a great full, authentic texture. This is the ultimate grilled skirt steak wine, and a must for any real fan of authentic California wine!
