2010 Storybook Mountain "Mayacamas Range" Napa Valley Zinfandel
Wine & Spirits
A fragrant, peppery zin grown in the hills northwest of Calistoga, this has energy behind its minerally black fruit flavors. It's a simple, charming red to pour with spicy lamb sausages or most anything else off the grill.
Ripe and slight dry and tight at the same time, this wine takes a brief drift into a woodsy character despite showing enough berryish focus to be true to its Zinfandel heritage. Full on the palate and slightly puckery in the bargain, this bottling, like its mates from Storybook Mountain, is nowhere near ready for early consumption and needs four to six years of quiet cellaring before its time will come.
Whether you're a hardcore Zin fanatic, or are just beginning to survey the category, any wine from Storybook Mountain should be in your top-10 list. 92 points, Richard Jennings: "Medium dark ruby color; appealing, raisin, berry, blackberry jam nose; poised, raisin, briary, blackberry jam palate; medium-plus finish."
