What a surprise and delight! This dry, crisp refreshing Gruner Veltliner shows varietal typicity in the form of tropical citrusy and green apple aromas and flavors, with peachy notes accented by white pepper and dandelion. It has lots of lift and drive, finishing with a minerality and length. Like its Austrian counterpart, this is an extremely versatile style of white wine that can pair with the trickiest of dishes. I recently had a farm fresh interpretation of caponata with baby artichokes instead of eggplant, and fresh heirloom tomatoes tosssed with capers, peppers, and spicy olive oil on a bed of romaine lettuces, and a wine like this would have complemented the unique combination of flavors of the dish perfectly. This is also a smart choice for sushi.
