Roederer Estate Anderson Valley Brut Sparkling Wine
*Editors' Choice* The fruit flavors are apparent, fresh and lively in this medium-bodied, beautifully balanced brut. Light pear and pineapplearomas are followed by richer pear and citrus flavors, and subtle hints of baking spices, almonds and a nice earthy touch emerge.
*Smart Buy* Sleek and charming, with yeasty apple torte and floral cherry aromas and rich, crisp flavors of lemon curd, spicy vanilla and fresh ginger.
As always a very bright and vital wine and, in this case, one that emphasizes freshness more than yeasty complexity, the latest Roederer Brut steers to citrusy fruit with hints of flowers and proofing bread dough just off to the side. It is, as usual, on the firm side in balance yet avoids any acidy stiffness, and, while arguably not as deep as the best of its earlier incarnations, it is a well-made sparkling wine that will find a useful place at the table.
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Light yellow. Pear, orange zest and smoky lees on the nose. Offers flavors of melon and fresh orchard fruits, with a honeyed nuance and a spicy overtone. Refreshingly dry and precise, with firm closing grip and lingering bitterness. (ST)
Wine & Spirits
An inviting, creamy sparkling wine with scents of almond and orange blossom, this has an implicit fruit sweetness that would match Dungeness crab.
Founded in 1982, Roederer Estate is nestled in Mendocino County's cool, fog-shrouded Anderson Valley. As the California outpost of Champagne Louis Roederer, Roederer Estate builds upon a centuries-old tradition of fine winemaking. Roederer Estate's sparkling wines are produced using only grapes from the winery's own vineyards. Carrying on the tradition of Champagne Louis Roederer in France, special oak-aged reserve wines are added to each blend.
