2014 Herman Story "Nuts & Bolts" California Syrah
Black in the glass and dense with aromas of cooked blueberry, vanilla, maple syrup, brown sugar, tar, fudge and fresh purple flowers, this wine takes ripeness and concentration to impressive heights. Lavish on the palate with sticky grippy tannins, the flavors of blueberry fudge, cola, black pepper and lavender are bold and delicious.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
A year in, year out killer wine, the 2014 Syrah Nuts and Bolts is another stunner that gives up ripe, full throttle notes of blackberries, peppered meats, game and singed leather. Big, rich, gorgeously textured and hedonistic, yet also balanced, pure and fresh, it's a quintessential Paso Robles red that delivers the goods. Drink it anytime over the coming 5-8 years. One of my favorite estates in the Central Coast is Russell From's Herman Story, who makes unapologetic rich, layered, flavor loaded wines that are a joy to drink. (JD)
Bright purple. Sexy, oak-spiced black and blue fruit compote and floral pastille aromas are complemented by suggestions of olive, black pepper and licorice. Supple, sweet and expansive on the palate, offering intense, smoke-tinged blackberry and boysenberry liqueur flavors and building spiciness. Closes broad, sweet and impressively long; plush tannins sneak in late and add shape. This hefty, flamboyant wine checks in at 16.1 percent alcohol, for those planning on driving home. (JR)
Out of Paso Robles, these wines follow the aesthetic of its winemaker Russell P. From--"all the facts with none of the filler."
