2001 Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Brücke Riesling Auslese (375ml)
A laser beam of fruit and mineral. Vivid aromas and flavors of apricot, mandarin orange, vanilla and mineral are etched into an incisive structure. The texture is creamy, yet the overall impression is very intense and focused.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Sweetened scallions can be discerned in the nose of the medium to full-bodied 2001 Riesling Auslese Oberhauser Brucke. A wine of great harmony, depth, and power, it coats the palate with lingering poached pear and spice flavors. Lush, wonderfully elegant, and exceptionally long, it is a superb Auslese for drinking between 2010 and 2025. Helmut Donnhoff approached the 2001 vintage much as Reggie Jackson would have reacted to facing a fast ball down the middle thrown by a Junior Varsity pitcher in the bottom of the ninth of the last game of the World Series. Donnhoff hit a towering, grand slam home run of majestic proportions. His 2001s are extraordinary.
Fine, more focused than the Niederhäuser Hermannshohle with more marked acidity. Extremely concentrated and impressively tense, considering its charge of sheer exuberantly ripe fruit. 19/20 points.
