2012 Felton Road "Block 2" Chardonnay Central Otago (Elsewhere $50+)
Pure, juicy nectarine and white-peach character with hints of clotted cream, crème fraîche, grilled hazelnuts, nougat and lemon myrtle. Rich and mouth-filling stone-fruit characters on the palate, with nougat, crème caramel, roasted nuts and spicy cashew oak. Beautiful, shimmering acidity and a finish that seems to linger for minutes. Drink in 2015.
Supple, elegant Chardonnay with grapefruit, nectarine/stone fruit, wet stone mineral and butterscotch flavours representing the more obvious descriptors. A wine that demonstrates subtle power with its extraordinary length. Very classy Chardonnay.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The Block 2 Chardonnay has wonderfully expressive apricot and apple tart notes with underlying ginger, cashew and lightly browned toast hints. Medium bodied and packed with youthful apple and citrus flavors supported by crisp acid, it has a long spice and nut laced finish. (LPB)
On the crisp side, with green apple, pineapple and green pear flavors, exhibiting a subtle hazelnut aroma. Drink now. (Web-2014)
Sourced from a single block of 22 year old Mendoza Clone Chardonnay vines within the Elms Vineyard. Winemaker's notes: "Hints of white peach introduce the further complexing notes of almond blossom, flint and cut stone. The palate is less heavy and rich than usual for a Block 2 but this pleasantly provides greater finesse and precision. A very authentic expression that articulates the site with great clarity. Lingering, exacting and quite uplifting on the finish."
