2006 Piper-Heidsieck Brut Champagne
This rich and creamy vintage wine boasts soft apples, fresh acidity and a fine, tight texture. There’s just a hint of toast to round out the palate and add complexity. It could improve with age further, so drink through 2020.
A refined version, with a rich, toasty base, this carries flavors of brioche, pureed blackberry, graphite, candied lemon zest and fresh ginger on a fine and creamy mousse, followed by a lasting, spiced finish. Drink now through 2026.
Wine & Spirits
Régis Camus found the pinot noir of 2006 particularly intense, so he increased the proportion of chardonnay in this blend, achieving a wine of depth and multidimensional flavor. There’s youthful tightness and austerity, focused in on lime pith (and, perhaps, a little banana pith), developing richer, juicy notes of pear as it opens.

Light yellow-gold. Zesty citrus fruits and white flowers on the highly fragrant, toasty nose. Juicy Meyer lemon and tangerine flavors give way to deeper pear and melon with air, picking up a buttery brioche quality and a hint of anise. Closes spicy and long, with lingering smokiness and a touch of bitter pear skin.
