2012 Columna Albariño Rias Baixas

SKU #1157143 90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Bright straw color. Fresh melon and tangerine aromas are brightened by notes of quinine and chalky minerals. Light-bodied, focused honeydew and citrus fruit flavors show good concentration and a hint of saltiness. Finishes tangy and long, with a refreshingly bitter quality and a touch of fresh orange. (9/2013)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

From the granite and slate soils of Rias Baixas (where Albarino is king), Columna’s 2012 Albarino offers scents of crushed rocks and spring flowers in its fresh, light to medium-bodied personality. With good texture as well as freshness, it can be enjoyed over the next year. (RP) (8/2013)

Wine & Spirits

A tight, young albariño with scents of green pear and seashells, this is clean and balanced, a refreshing wine for the beach. (10/2013)

K&L Notes

Produced in the slightly warmer Rias Baixas sub-zone of O Rosal, Columna's 2012 is very successful for the vintage. Whereas rainy weather was an issue in many vineyards closer to the coast, in O Rosal the harvest was easier and more even. A lovely balance between granite-driven minerality, salinity and fairly rich yellow stone fruit with subtle tropical overtones, make this wine perfect before a meal or to enjoy with seafood and shellfish. Lots of character and value for the price.
