2012 Domaine Saint Damien "Les Souteyrades" Gigondas (Pre-Arrival)
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2012 Gigondas Souteyrades is a perfumed, elegant version of the cuvee and exhibits classic berry fruit, spice-box, licorice and wild herb aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, pure, layered and textured, with building richness and fine tannin, it should be reasonably approachable on release, yet age gracefully for 12-15 years. Located on the lower, flatter portion of the appellation and one of the top estates in Gigondas, Domaine Saint-Damien is run by the talented Joel Saurel....While the style here doesn’t skimp on fruit, the wines are traditionally made and show beautiful southern Rhone typicity. They also represent incredible values and readers need to get on this estate’s bandwagon!(JD)

Bright purple. Intensely perfumed scents of dark berry preserves, floral oils, incense and licorice, along with a spicy overtone. Sweet black raspberry and cherry-cola flavors show excellent clarity, a velvety texture and an exotic floral pastille quality. Smooth and expansive Gigondas, with excellent finishing freshness and floral persistence.
