2010 La Courolle, Montagne-St-Émilion
Chateau La Courolle is located in the Right Bank commune of Montagne, northeast of Saint-Émilion, where its AOC (established in 1936) enjoys status as one of the Saint-Émilion 'satellite' appellations. Only red wines are produced here, and though the five main Bordeaux varietals are cultivated, the dominant varietal is Merlot. For Chateau la Couroulle, production is based almost exclusively on Merlot, with a little Cabernet Franc blended in. Harvest is done entirely by hand, and the wine is raised in French oak. It offers lovely plum and red berry fruit aromas and flavors, with notes of flowering herb, vanilla and sweet spice. It is round and smooth, full in the mouth, with a lingering finish. Versatile at table, this delightful Bordeaux can be enjoyed with a variety of foods, from red meats to roast chicken or pasta with tomato sauce.
