2009 Noster "Inicial" Priorat

SKU #1143279

While I am a strong believer in the inimitable qualities, and huge potential, of Priorat's terroir, I must admit that there is very little out there that truly excites us, particularly for under $20. So imagine my surprise upon trying this, a Priorat that is not at all shy or trying to hide its Mediterranean origins, a wine that is well balanced, showing lovely red and dark fruit as well as nice minerality. The time in bottle has definitely allowed the Inicial to come together nicely and begin to show its stuff. Inicial is a blend of Garnacha, Carignane and just a tiny amount of Cabernet Sauvignon. Try this with braised or stewed lamb served over creamy polenta.

Brawny and expressive, but not over ripe and not sickeningly rich like many other priorats on the market. This is an area capable of excellent wines, but in all the alchemy involved in mixing cabernet with carignan with grenache with so many other varietals...many wineries in Priorat completely miss the mark and make syrupy wines that are outrageously expensive. The Noster is great- bold and flavorful, not overdone, and just $15!! I enjoy the noster more than other bottles three times its price!
Top Value! Drink from 2013 to 2018
