2010 Gaba do Xil Mencia Valdeorras

SKU #1143175 Wine Spectator

A silky texture carries racy flavors of wild berry, mountain herb and mineral in this lively, focused red. This has light, firm tannins and vibrant acidity. Not a big wine, but shows intensity. Drink now through 2016. (Web-2012)

K&L Notes

From the remote Galician countryside of Spain comes this Mencía-based wine. It is a recent effort from one of Spain's best winemakers, the owner of Remelluri, and someone who is truly gifted at ferreting out some of the country's most interesting vineyards, Telmo Rodriguez. He is someone who has long championed the terraced, granite and slate characterized terroir of Valdeorras, and his passion for the region really shows through in this incredible bottling--full of purple and blue fruits, hints of violets, lovely minerality and a combination of intensity and freshness that the best Mencía based reds deliver. I love this wine with bean stews, roasted chicken, and even slowly braised meat and pork dishes. Very delicious stuff and highly recommended! (Joe Manekin, K&L Spanish wine buyer)
