2011 Tenuta Sette Ponti "Crognolo" Toscana
Impressive aromas of blackberries, currants and flowers follow to a full body with super fine tannins and a long, long finish. Super classy. Best ever Crognolo. Always great value. 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2011 Crognolo (Sangiovese with a small percentage of Merlot) shows lush, thick lines and a dark garnet appearance. This is a delicious and well-crafted Tuscan red that offers the fruit-forward style and soft extraction that defines the best of Tuscan winemaking. Rich tannins and deep layers of ripe fruit, blackberry, leather, tobacco and chocolate wrap smoothly over the palate. The 2011 vintage offers an especially soft interpretation that is perfect for near-term drinking. You feel a pinch of that Sangiovese acidity on the close. (ML)
Wine & Spirits
This is Sangiovese enriched with a small amount of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. It emphasizes umami undertones of smoke and earth, along with high notes of balsamic adding an edge to the black fruit. The structure feels traditional and strict, focused on pasta with boar ragù.
Violet, black currant and cherry aromas highlight this lush, fruity red. Harmonious and well-structured, with a long finish of spice and tobacco. (BS)
