1996 Chateau de Pellehaut K&L Exclusive 18 Year Old Folle Blanche Vintage Tenareze Armagnac 750ml

SKU #1137467

Chateau Pellehaut has been one of our top direct imports for the past year here at K&L. We've visited the Tenereze producer twice over the past few years, always finding something new to bring home for our brandy fans. Big, spicy, woody flavor explodes right off the bat from this 18 year old, 50.4% brandy. This is another crossover Armagnac, the one you'll want to buy if you like Bourbon and think Armagnac might be something you want to try. The raisiny fruit aspect of the Folle Blanche comes in on the finish, but this is all about the concentration of the wood and the spice. $60 for all this punch. And someone actually emailed me last week to say that most Armagnac was a rip-off! Come on, man!

Pellehaut is probably my favorite Armagnac producer right now. The incredible value-to-quality ratio is simply amazing across the board. I tried the 1994 and 1996 side by side, and boy, they could not be more different. Armagnac often receives the treatment of "ugly redheaded stepsister" compared to Cognac from the region. However, I find Armagnac much more fun. It's focused on the individual characteristics of the vintage more so than house style, and it is rough around the edges and tells a different story every time. With that said, the 1996 is a spicy, muscular one. High intensity on the nose, generous sweet vanilla and cedar oak with HUGE mouthfeel; rustic and complex. Oh, and it will definitely grow some hair on your chest with its 50.4% ABV

This fantastic armagnac has beautiful expressive aromas that are inviting and pleasurable. The 1996 Pellehaut is elegant and complex with layers of flavors. There is a lot of quality for this great price.
