1986 Domaine du Miquer K&L Exclusive Bas Armagnac (750ml)

SKU #1136719

Our newest direct import at K&L is Domaine du Miquer, run by Jacques Lasserre. Jacques is a veteran of the business and for years was the distiller for many other producers in the region (remember than many Armagnac producers have no stills and hire other people to distill their wine). He knows the production from the vineyard to the bottle and you can tell it right away when you taste his brandy. They are polished and exquisite in quality. His crazy old still was made in 1900 and continues to create one masterpiece after another. They're also made from 100% Folle Blanche, which has become rare in Armagnac anymore due to the difficulty in growing the varietal versus Baco, Ugni Blanc, or Colombard. The 1986 is rich, spicy, full of woody notes, but also the softer side of the grape. The Folle Blanche gives this brandy finesse and an elegance that is rarely seen with Armagnac these days. This is a very special brandy that matches some of the best we have ever carried from producers like Darroze, Baraillon, and Ravignan. (David Driscoll, K&L Spirits Buyer)

While the nose is filled with caramel and almonds, the flavors are surprisingly dry and oak driven, with slight cedar and vanilla notes over a toasted almond flavor. Not as sweet as one would expect from the nose, and entirely unique and delicious - a classic armagnac.

This is a wonderful Armagnac that should give any brandy fan lots of pleasure. In the glass there is a lot going on and a lot to think about. At first, there are pretty floral aromas that are inviting and enjoyable. In the mouth the 1986 Miquer continues the story with elegance, complex flavors, fruit, spice, a hint of wood and a nice long finish.
