2012 Casa Silva Carménère Colchagua Valley

The Silva family pioneered grapegrowing in the Colchagua Valley with the first vineyards back in 1892. They also have the oldest cellar in the valley. Colchagua is one of the most noteworthy regions for growing black grapes and produces some of the richest and most powerful red wines. The Casa Silva is an inky deep purple color with black currant and black cherry flavors. It has notes of sage, capsicum, grilled rosemary, cardamom and clove. It is youthful and expressive and should drink nicely now over the next few years, maybe even longer. A lot of wine for a very low price.

The Casa Silva is a cleaner version of carmenere. It is full bodied and luscious with purple fruit flavors and a touch of herb that reminds you that you are drinking carmenere. Perfect with some grilled skirt steak.
